There are the good guys and the goons. The plot begins with the murder of an union leader, Acharya which leads to a gang whose members are identified by a gold medal with the gang's logo. Enter the head of Secret Services, David, a mysterious figure who weaves a web to bring the gang to book, including the mastermind. Gopal, a young officer is tasked with the job. To support him Dimple (David's niece) alias Shoba plays the girlfriend of Gopal and acts as a communication conduit. When Bindu a nightclub dancer is murdered and Gopal become the prime suspect Gopal joins the gang and earns the trust of the leader. Exploring the netherworld of drugs, stolen antiques, smuggling of gold and silver, creating social and religious tensions he learns the innermost secrets of the gang. Is Gopal a double agent, or has he found the lure of power, money and corruption irresistible? Has he turned triple? Will Shoba play along with Gopal's deceit? While some of the plot transitions leave the viewer baffled and edits incomprehensible, the overall story line is a product of its times, credible and entertaining. —"MG" Gopalan

Master Dinanath is an ex-freedom fighter. When he gets Thakur Pratap Singh arrested for arms smuggling, he has Master's wife Bharati and young daughter Priti kidnapped and also turns his locality's public against him. Dinanath escapes with his young son Raju and they settle into a slum named Bharat Nagar. Meanwhile, Bharati contracts leprosy and escapes from her kidnappers, leaving her daughter Priti in a friend's care. Dinanath is led to presume that his wife and daughter are dead. Bharati Nagar is ruled by four underworld dons, each representing a different Indian community. Dinanath persuades them to live in harmony and once they settle their differences, the four dons use Dinanath's stay in Bharat Nagar to cover up their own illegal activities. Fast Forward to 15 years later, the year is 1962. Dinanath's now grown-up son Raju turns out to be the opposite of his father by being drawn into the underworld, committing crimes to earn money with his father unaware of what he does. Raju starts working for Thakur Pratap Singh, unaware that Thakur had once kidnapped his mother and sister many years earlier which caused their separation. Kamini and Ravi Verma are in love and plan to get married. Sir Juda wants to take over the vast estate of Ravi, and finds out that he can only do so with the help Kamini. Sir Juda orders Kamini to marry Ravi and thereafter kill him accidentally, and Kamini agrees to do so. After Ravis death, his mother is devastated, and Sir Juda takes over the vast estate. In a strange turn of events, Ravi is reborn as Monty - and grows up to become a popular singer. He visits Ooty for a short holiday where he recollects his previous lifes memories. He later enquires about these memories and reaches the estate where he realizes the reason and motive of his rebirth. Upon realization, he decides to avenge his death and bring back his familys lost glory by putting Kamini and others behind bars. Will Monty succeed in his endeavor?

Shankar is a hoodlum who lives in a shanty hut with his pregnant wife, Kanta, and makes a living as a career criminal. He prays to Lord Shiv that if he is blessed with a male child, he will ensure that the child does not take to his path, but instead grows up to a decent and honest human being. His wife does give birth to a baby boy, and Shankar loots the ill-gotten gains of another hoodlum named J.K.. A furious J.K. hunts down Shankar in an attempt to abduct his son, but Shankar takes his child and switches him with one belonging to renowned stage artist, Ashok Kumar. Shankar gets into a scuffle with J.K. and his men, killing one of them, getting arrested, tried in Court, and being sentenced to 14 years in jail. Kanta passes away, while Dharam is left in the care of a wrestler, Bhim Singh, and a mid-wife, Ganga. Dharam is taught to be a hoodlum, but wants to focus on becoming a singer, while Ranjit has taken to alcohol, gambling, and a life of crime under J.K. himself. After his discharge, Shankar finds to his delight out that Ashok has brought up Ranjit and both are stage actors. Then his world descends into chaos when he finds out that Ranjit is in fact Dharam, while his very son, Ranjit has taken to a life of crime. Angered at Dharam, he beats him up and asks him to be a hoodlum like himself, he also beats up Ranjit and asks him to obey Ashok and follow in his footsteps. After running away from home, Prince Naresh Kumar Singh (Dev Anand) now calls himself Dilip Singh, returns home after a period of 18 years. He travels by ship, and meets Reeta Singh (Saira Banu), and after a series of misunderstandings, both fall in love with each other. When Dilip reaches Devangarh, he is shocked to find that his brother, Rana Mahesh Kumar Singh (Murad) is dead; his mother, Rajmata Rajeshwari (Durga Khote) is blind; and the throne-prince to be crowned is the Senapati Uday Singh (Premnath), who has also killed Naresh. Rajmata is convinced that her son Naresh is still alive, and will return one day, and refuses to permit Uday to ascend the throne. In order to fool the Rajmata, Uday recruits Dilip to pose as the missing prince, Naresh. How long will Uday Singh continue to pull wool over the eyes of the Rajmata? The story of Barsaat revolved around two contrasting love storiesone rooted in innocence and the other in heartbreak. Two friends, Pran (Raj Kapoor) and the womanizing Gopal (Prem Nath) romance two local girls Reshma (Nargis) and Neela (Nimmi) while holidaying in the valley of Kashmir. While Pran and Reshma's love is true, Gopal is a womanizer, who disregards the faithful Neela and condemns her to wait faithfully for his return. The music of the film marked the debut of the legendary duo Shankar-Jaikishan and has songs that are hummed even today. The poster of the film that depicted the romantic pose of the heroine gazing up at the hero as she bends backwards on his arm inspired the famous insignia of R.K. Films.
