Julie (Neha Dhupia) is a girl next door from Goa, with her boyfriend Neil (Yash Tonk). Her father (Sudhir Joshi) runs a bakery and Julie is happy in her small life. Neil is ambitious and wants to be a rich businessman like Braganza. Julie says that a small house and a happy life is enough for her. Julie presses Neil to get married but he is not willing to commit. Neil seduces Julie to have sex with her. Julie's friend Dinky had recently moved to Mumbai to become an air-hostess. Neil moves away from Goa for a few weeks to Bangalore for a business-related purpose, and Julie starts dreaming of a family with him. Neil comes back and marries the daughter of a business tycoon in Goa, Braganza, in exchange of managing his business empire in Goa. Julie is heartbroken and cannot stand to be in Goa, as everything in Goa reminds her of Neil and his betrayal. Via Dinky Julie decides to move to Mumbai. Dinky gets Julie a job at a construction company. They both visit a salon where Dinky tells Julie that the owner Delnaz runs a side business as a pimp and supplies high class call girls to the high and mighty of Mumbai. Julie has bright interior design ideas at her job (such as color of walls to sky blue) and her ideas impress her bosses, specifically Rohan who is the resident interior designer at the company. Due to her suggestions, the entire project gets sold out in double quick time. Rohan charms Julie with sweet-talk and soon starts dating Julie. Rohan wins a large contract due to Julie's ideas. He says he wants to marry her, and Julie has sex with him. One day, she is physically abused by Rohan (Sanjay Kapoor). Rohan wanted Julie to sleep with a prospective client to help him win the contract, but Julie reacts violently. Rohan had argued that he was anyways planning to marry Julie, but one night with the client would have secured their financial futures for their entire life. Heartbroken and emotionless, she loses faith in love and decides to become a call girl (she meets Delnaz at a coffee cafe, and she understands her exploitation). Delnaz connects with Julie and says that a man always wants a woman to give up in front of impossible circumstances and don't expect her to fight back. She encourages Julie to take charge of her own life. Julie decides to create her own identity. That night, when Julie met Delnaz, she slept with her first client and became a professional prostitute. Dinky was away on an overseas assignment and hence could not stop Julie from taking this extreme step. One day Julie is asked to have sex with a minister in Delhi, but the payment is arranged by a different person. Turns out that the middleman was Neil. He is ashamed that Julie has become a prostitute, but Julie is not. Julie has a chance meeting with Mihir Shandilya (Priyanshu Chatterjee). Mihir is staying at the same hotel where Julie had come to "service" the minister. Mihir is a multi-millionaire and one of the most eligible bachelors in town, leads to their instant liking for each other. Julie's purse is stolen and Mihir gives her a lift to her home. She doesn't have the keys (they were in the purse), so Mihir ends up spending the night with Julie at the beach. The next day he rushes back from the office to propose to her (his father had sent the photo of a girl from London, which makes Mihir realize that he loves Julie) Mihir is completely besotted by her beauty and, being a family-oriented man, proposes marriage to her. Mihir has a loving and supportive family, who all welcome Julie with a warm heart. The family includes Mihir's sister Sonia (Donny Bharadwaj). All is well except that Mihir, and his family are unaware of the fact that Julie is a high-profile prostitute. During a TV interview, Mihir surprises everyone by mentioning that there is someone special in his life. Julie is now in a dilemma. If she tells her future husband about her socially unacceptable profession then she may not be accepted by his family and if she doesn't, that will be bring untold pain and misery to them (and they are nice people). Julie does not want the family to suffer on account of her checkered past. Julie goes to the TV Show host Tara (Achint Kaur) saying she wants to be interviewed by her. Tara agrees after listening the Julie's entire life story. As the show goes live on air, it creates a mini earthquake in Mumbai political and financial circles, when she claims that Mihir loves her. The show goes off air due to protests and comes back on in a few hours with police protection. Mihir arrives on the sets and says that he knew the truth about Julie from 3 days ago. He still declares his love for Julie and re-commits his marriage proposal to her. He gives a lecture on how society wants prostitutes but won't accept them in their houses.

Pinjar tells the story of Puro, a young woman of Hindu background, living a lovely life circling the time of the partition of 1947 with her family. Puro is betrothed to a wealthy, sweet young man, Ramchand, from a promising family. Puro's bliss is shattered one day as a leisurely trip with Rajjo, her younger sister, turns traumatic as she is kidnapped by a mysterious Muslim man, Rashid. Rashid's family has an ancestral dispute with Puro's family. Puro's family had made Rashid's homeless by taking over their property. Puro's grand-uncle had even kidnapped Rashid's grand-aunt and then released her after defiling her. Rashid's family made him swear that he would kidnap Puro to settle the score. It is clear that Rashid is drawn to Puro and would do anything for her. One night, Puro manages to escape back to her parents. Her parents woefully turn away their daughter, explaining that if Puro were to stay, Rashid's extended Muslim clan would arrive and slaughter everyone. Left with no support, Puro returns to Rashid who is well-aware of Puro's escape; he knew she wouldn't be let in by her parents and had been waiting for her nearby. After a few months, Puro's family marries their son Trilok to Ramchand's younger sister, Lajjo. Rajjo is married off to Ramchand's cousin. Parallel to the celebrations of the new marriage is a celebration of Rashid: Puro is pregnant. Puro is greatly depressed as she has conceived from rape. She miscarries but learns somewhat of Rashid's love for her and his repentance for his evil deed. The British colonialists leave India and the subcontinent reels under the effects of partition. Ramchand's uncle, cousin and Rajjo leave for India and are safe. Ramchand, his parents and Lajjo are caught in the riots. Ramchand hurriedly leaves to India with his younger sister and mother; his father is already missing. Shortly after, Lajjo is kidnapped by thugs. Puro meets Ramchand, who woefully tells her of Lajjo's situation. Puro finds Lajjo and helps her escape with Rashid's assistance. They conduct Lajjo to Lahore where Trilok and Ramchand come to receive her. Trilok has a tearful reunion with Puro and explains to her that she can start life anew as Ramchand is ready to accept her even now. Puro surprises Trilok by refusing and saying she is where she belongs. Ramchand responds with tremendous empathy to Puro, as he sees that she has accepted Rashid. Rashid slowly tries to fade, making it easy for Puro to leave with her folk, but is heartbroken, as he is deeply in love with her. However, Puro seeks Rashid out and the two tearfully bid Ramchand, Trilok, and Lajjo farewell forever.

When Shekhar accidentally kills Amar, guilt drives him to Canada to seek forgiveness from Amar`s family. He meets Amar`s fiancee, Piya, and offers help for her dying business. In the process, he secretly falls in love with her.

Shekhar lives in Mumbai with his friend Bosco, who had also traveled from Canada to be with him. Shekhar had just been awarded with a business recognition at an industry forum. This is where Shekhar runs into Amar from Canada's Shah industries. Amar reveals that he is going to marry his fiance in Canada the following week. Amar was in India to shop for a wedding dress for Pia, who wanted to get married in traditional Indian attire. Amar invites Shekhar to come to Canada and join Shah industries, but Shekhar politely declines and says that he is happy in Mumbai. On his way to the airport, Amar's cab breaks down. He is told by the driver to get a different taxi as Amar is getting late for his flight. Since the airport was only 1 Km away, Amar decides to walk, while talking on the phone with Pia, his fiance. At the same time, Shekhar was returning from the party with Bosco. Shekhar swerves the car to avoid hitting a girl who suddenly jumped in front of the car, but in doing so, he rams straight into Amar, who was walking on the pedestrian footpath. Amar dies on the spot. Bosco makes Shekhar leave the accident site before the police arrives, even though Shekhar sees Amar's phone on the ground and picks it up to hear Pia narrating a romantic poem, symbolizing their love. Bosco removes all evidence linking Shekhar to the accident. After Amar Shah's (Raqesh Vashisth) accidental death in India, Canada-based Shah Industries is on the verge of collapse. Pia (Sandali Sinha), Amar's fiance and a Managing Director of Shah Industries, is devastated. The company is under huge amount of debt, and the assets of the company are not even enough to pay off half the amount. Girdhari (Vikram Gokhale), his dad, is in shock and unresponsive towards others while Amar's sister Milli (Amrita Prakash) and grandmother (Dina Pathak) are in mourning. Inspector D'Mello (Manoj Pahwa) who is investigating the case is determined to find the person responsible for the accident despite his superiors' indifference towards the case. Months after Amar's death, the highly respected and talented business worker Shekhar Malhotra (Priyanshu Chatterjee) comes to Canada and meets Bosco. Shekhar says that he wants to apologize to Amar's family and is willing to undergo any punishment that the family deems appropriate. Shekhar tells Girdhar that he met Amar in Mumbai and says that it was his car that killed Amar. Girdhar is near catatonic and does not react. Pia realizes that she needs an Operations Head to make sure that the company is functioning again and restores faith in the lenders. Shekhar meets Pia and says that he met Amar in Mumbai, who offered him a job in Shah industries in Canada. Shekhar offers to re-build and restore Shah Industries without any compensation, stating Amar met him in India and offered him a job before his death. He is given the chance and goes about the uphill task of making the company viable again. Gradually, Shekhar heals the gaping wound left in the Shah family by Amar's death and they come to accept him as one of the family while he falls in love with Pia. What they don't know - except for Bosco (Rajesh Khera), Shekhar's friend in Canada - is that it was Shekhar's jeep that accidentally had hit Amar after he swerved to avoid hitting an innocent girl who had walked into the road, causing his death. Ridden by guilt Shekhar came to Canada to confess, ask for forgiveness, and do whatever he can for the family. Abhigyan (Himanshu Malik) is a wealthy Canadian industrialist who meets Pia and realizes that she is the right woman for him. He is considering proposing to Pia and helping to rebuild Shah Industries. But Pia has fallen in love with Shekhar. Eventually, a conflict arises between Pia and Shekhar regarding a proposition made by Abhi to take over Shah Industries. Shekhar realizes that Pia does not need his help anymore and decides to return to India. Pia stops Shekhar while he boards his flight and confesses her feelings for him. Shekhar denies his feelings and boards the plane. Devastated, Pia goes home and gets engaged to Abhi. At the airport arrives inspector D'Mello (Manoj Pahwa), from India in search of the person who killed Amar, and arrests Shekhar. They wait, with Bosco (Rajesh Khera), to board the next flight to India. Shekhar calls Pia and tells her how much he loves her and confesses that it was he who hit her fiance. Being drunk, Shekhar meets with an accident. Pia feels guilty about falling for the man who caused Amar's death and confesses it to Girdhari, who surprises her by speaking for the first time after his son's death. He tells her that Shekhar had told him the truth when he first visited them, and he believes Shekhar. Amar's family then makes Pia realize how much Shekhar has done for the family and that he is like Amar to them. Bosco informs them about Shekhar's accident. Abhi tells a skeptical Pia to go back to Shekhar as he is her true love. Meanwhile, D'Mello who is in the hospital with everyone, understands that the family needs Shekhar more than the law does and simply closes the case and leave. Shekhar recovers and unites with Pia while Abhi is left devastated and is comforted by his uncle.
