Vikram is a honest police inspector on the trail of Chimanbhai, little knowing that people behind the crimes are none other than politicians who will do anything to protect the criminals. A gangster named Shah who owes allegiance to the Janardhan gang is killed by Chimanbhai. Although Janardhan is in prison, he ensures that Chimanbhai is notified of his anger and vengeance. Chimanbhai arranges a meeting with Janardhan and kills him. Some schoolchildren and their teacher Aarti Singh, who are at a picnic nearby, witness this, but Chimanbhai and his men hunt them down and kill them all. The entire country is shocked by this killing, and the police are under pressure to apprehend the killers at any cost. Aarti's brother, Police Inspector Vikram Singh, also assists in finding the killer and gets his girlfriend Divya to pose as Aarti to lure the killers out into the open. A village school-teacher gets in disputes with his step-brother and the Police. Teacher Tulsiram is married to Saraswati and has two step-brothers, Advocate Rajaram, and Shankar who is uneducated. Narayandas gets upset after Tulsiram attempts to get Shankar married to Bindiya, and he gives Tulsiram an ultimatum - get Rajaram to marry his daughter - or he will forcibly take over their land and house, which have been mortgaged with him to pay for Rajaram's education. Then Tulsiram gets arrested on charges of Fraud, Theft and Cheating. Shortly thereafter Shankar, too, is arrested for abducting Bindiya and holding her hostage. Deciding to kill himself and his family, he takes them on an outing at Chowpatty, and there he mixes poison in some snacks and takes them to his family. On the way, a small boy steals the food. Dhanraj catches up to this boy, and takes the food away from him, and disposes it off. He finds that this small boy has a winning lottery ticket. He rejoices, tells this good news to his family, and adopts the boy, who is now his goodluck charm. Thereafter they live a very comfortable life. Years later, all of Dhanraj's children, Renu, Vishwas, and Kishan have grown up alongwith the boy, Amar, who is now a police inspector. Renu and Vishwas are married, and Amar and Kishan will soon be married too. Kishan gets married to Hira's daughter, and Amar marries a petty thief, Geeta. Things don't go quite well in this household, as money is being embezzled; and then Vishwas' wife blames Amar of sexually molesting her, forcing Amar and Geeta to leave the house. Dhanraj has always considered Amar a goodluck charm for this house, feels vulnerable and open to attacks. And his perceptiveness gives fruit when Vishwas and his wife decide to leave this house and live separately, and it is on the very same day that Dhanraj is arrested for marketing suprious drugs, and the arresting officer is none other than Inspector Amar.

Twin brothers are separated at birth and in adulthood, their identities are swapped. Leela and Bholaram are a childless couple. Leela works as a midwife, and one day assists Sunderdas' wife to give birth to twin boys. She decides to keep one baby for herself, and tells Sunderdas that his wife has given birth to one child. She has an illegitimate child named Ramesh from another man, and when Sunderdas comes to know of this, he is threatened and attacked, and as a result of which p is paralyzed, unable to move. Kishen is brought by Kamini and Ghendamal with lot of abuse, and intimidation, and is kept illiterate, so that he can blindly sign away whatever documents he is asked to sign. Kishen likes Radha, a servant, and is married, but the atrocities do not stop, and then Kishen runs away. Taking advantage of the situation, Gendamal schemes with Kamini to grab Seth's estate and parental property and brings up his son, Kishen with a lot of abuse and lack of ancestry so that he can blindly sign away any documents present before him but Kishen refuses to endorse the document and is badly beaten and left for dead. Raja meets with Laxmi Rao and is attracted to her, he comes to her assistance when her dad, Mohan, passes away, by helping to cremate him; he comes to her aid again when Kallu and his goons attempt to sexually molest her; and when the municipality tear down her shanty hut, he decides to let her live with him. Due to her influence, he gives up his bad habits and decides to go straight. Things go well, so much so that both get ready to get married to each other in a simple temple ceremony organized by the community. Vijay Kumar is an young man living in a small town in rural India, who makes his living farming. He hopes to change his lifestyle and that of the townspeople by building a hospital with the help of attractive young doctor Rekha, who he is in love with, so much so that he is willing to donate his land. When he faces opposition, he quietly backs away, and lets Rekha, Vijay and the townspeople lay the foundation of the hospital. Thereafter chaos breaks out in Vijay's life, as he is arrested by the police for killing Sheela. Vijay is tried in Court, and sentenced to life in prison. Bharati initially does not reciprocrate Rajeshwar's affection, but when she realizes that he really does love her, she too falls in love with him. Bharati's has a neighbor, Tilak, who is unemployed, and lives with his mother, Sharda, who works as a maidservant in a rich family's house. Tilak falls in love with the daughter, Rani, of this rich family. Both Rajeshwar and Tilak dislike each other. Then Dharamraj gets killed, and the evidence points towards Tilak. Suraj lives in a small rural town in India with his widowed father, Yashpal, and a widowed sister, Sita. Suraj attends college, becomes a graduate and returns home to find that their family home is about to be auctioned at the behest of the cruel and influential Zamindar Bansilal, who refuses to allow them anymore time to re-pay his outstanding loan. The auction takes place, but is not enough to pay the loan, but Suraj assures them that he will do so when he gets a job in Bombay. Shortly thereafter, Yashpal kills himself; Sita is brutally raped and killed, and an enraged Suraj tries to kill Bansilal, Sharma, and Raghu, he does manage to kill Raghu and Sharma, but Bansilal escapes, and notifies the police, who locate, arrest Suraj, and have him sentenced to a long jail term. But Suraj escapes from prison and goes on the hunt for Bansilal. Advocate Rasik Bhiari Saxena sends an innocent child Mahesh to children's hope with charges of murder.His father Chander decides to avenge this and kidnaps one of his twin child and names him Ratan and teaches him all the way to con people.While the other twin Ajay studies in London and marries a foreigner for which Saxena throws him out of the house.Saxena is then framed for a murder and Chader asks Ratan to take Ajay's place whose also framed for robbery.After Ratan finds truth of Chander he along with Mahesh decides to find truth behind Saxena and Ajay's arrest.

Rajput began in 1975 as a dream project with all the makings of a blockbuster hit. It had Goldie as the director,LP as music directors; and Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna as the lead actors. Following her phenomenal success in Laila Majnu,the gorgeous Ranjeeta was also roped in. As if that was not enough, they also signed Tina Munim some time in the middle of the project. Unfortunately, the movie took seven years to see the light of the day, and it turned out to be only an average box office earner. There is no satisfactory explanation available as to why it took so long. Maybe there were problems with the dates of the overworked stars. To a viewer, the main problem appears to be the the weak story-line which ,it seems, was revised again and again, and it became weaker with each revision. The characters played by Dharmendra and Hema Malini are deeply in love, and they get physically intimate, but their parents-Om Shivpuri and Rehman- are sworn enemies. The result is that Hema gets married to the character played by Rajesh Khanna, and Dharmendra goes to jail as he kills the dacoit who attacks Hema Malini's Doli. Hema gives birth to Dharmendra's son who is raised by Rajesh Khanna as his own son, even though he knows the truth. Bhanu (Vinod Khanna) is in love with Kamali( Ranjeeta) who gets raped by Ranjeet who plays a tyrant ex ruler. Ranjeet is a widower who has a daughter from his first marriage-played by Tina Munim. Vinod Khanna forces Ranjeet to marry Ranjeeta, and kidnaps the daughter (Tina Munim) to settle the scores. Predictably, the kidnapped daughter falls in love with the kidnapper. In spite of the multi star billing, the bizarre twists to the story lead to the evident asymmetry in the relationships as Hema is the heroine for both Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna; and Vinod Khanna is the hero for both Ranjeeta and Tina Munim. I give full marks to Goldie as he managed to make a watchable movie even though the project dragged for seven years for whatever reasons. Among the actors, Rajesh Khanna has performed the best. Physically, he looks less of a Rajput if you compare him with Dharmendra,Vinod Khanna, and Ranjeet. But his role was meatier, and he did full justice to it as the devoted lover, committed husband, caring and loving foster father, and a brave and intelligent Police Officer. Dharmendra didn't have much scope in the story. Vinod Khanna didn't have too much scope either, but he was the director's darling. Goldie sure gave special importance to his Guru Bhai ( Ref Acharya Rajneesh) ,Vinod Khanna, who gets significant footage particularly during the climax. It should be mentioned that while Goldie and Mahesh Bhatt had deserted Rajneesh, Vinod Khanna was still with the Godman and even went with him to America.He could shoot for the film only when he visited India. The girls were totally ignored except for some scintillating scenes of Hema Malini. Ranjeet was too young to play Tina's father and certainly inadequate to be the main villain. I recall when I first saw this movie, my fellow viewers wondered why Prem Nath was not there in the movie. Certainly a watchable film. The names of the actors should be taken to mean the characters played by them in the film.

Kishan (Amitabh Bachchan) and Bishan (Amjad Khan) are childhood friends. Kishan is an orphan, but is self-sufficient and hard-working, while Bishan comes from an affluent background. The friendship between the two is extremely strong and is the bane of Bishan's uncle Chacha (Jeevan), who has his eyes on his widowed sister's wealth. It was Bishan's father who had sent his uncle to jail, but before he was released, Bishan's father passed away. Bishan's uncle then approached Bishan's mother and pretends to repent at his actions, and she relents to give him a place in the house. Kishan had objected to this. He had a strong voice and said that Bishan's father last wish was not to let Bishan's uncle back into the house at any cost. Kishan is an orphan himself and grows his own grain on a piece of land. Before dying Bishan's father gave Bishan's responsibility to Kishan. Bishan's uncle thinks the friendship between Bishan and Kishan can come in the way of him having complete sway over his sister's financial affairs. In a bid to separate the two friends, the uncle manipulates his sister into sending Bishan away to the city and then abroad for further education. Kishan was offered by Bishan's mom, but he won't go on someone else's money. He says he still have his father's debt to repay. When the two friends reunite years later, Bishan discovers that Kishan has a great voice. Bishan is now a successful businessman, and he wants to promote Kishan's singing talent. Unknown to Kishan, Bishan had also married in London and had a kid. But Bishan wanted to break this news to him later, as Kishan was bound to be upset that he was not at Bishan's wedding. Kishan goes to the city with his friend (Bishan makes him promise on his birthday). In Bombay, Kishan again meets Bishan's uncle and his mother. He also finds that Bishan has been married to Sheela and also has a child. Sheela explains to Kishan that her father had cancer and would have not survived long, and this is why the wedding had to be performed in haste and without Kishan's presence as getting Kishan to London would have taken so long. Bishan asks Komal (Neetu Singh) who is the daughter of the music academy owner, to groom Kishan to be a performer and a gentleman. Kishan doesn't know that Bishan has paid the music academy Rs 50,000 for Kishan training and grooming. Johnny (Kader Khan) is Bishan's driver. Bishan is the owner of a shipping company and even has his own merchant ship. In the meantime, Bishan discovers that the family wealth has been systematically looted over the last 18 years by the uncle and his son Jagdish. He is forced to borrow by mortgaging his remaining assets in order to ensure that Kishan becomes a successful singer. The Rs 50K check that Bishan had given to the music academy, has bounced. So, Bishan borrows against his house & ship to continue Kishan's training and to pay for the huge stadium where Kishan's first concert will be held. Kishan tries to get expelled from the process by being uncooperative and disruptive. The academy finally has enough and calls Bishan to take Kishan away. Bishan takes Kishan to the stadium that he has booked for his first concert to show him how much he believes in his friend. Kishan now understands the gravity of the situation and vows to work hard to become capable of achieving his friend's dream. Bishan's actions cause a major rift between Bishan and his wife Sheela (Tanuja), who is convinced that Kishan will turn his back on his friend if he were to ever succeed. Due to his theatrics Kishan is about to kicked off the academy but changes his tune when he finds that Bishan has planned a huge launch for him and staked everything on his future. Komal trains him personally. On the night of the debut concert Sheela leaves Bishan and takes away their son. Kishan gets cold feet and can't sing without Bishan on his debut night. Komal tells him she loves him, and Kishan gets his confidence back. Kishan's debut concert is a huge success, and he goes on to donate the proceeds of his earnings and consequent record deals in order to rid his friend Bishan of his many mortgages and in order to help woo his estranged sister-in-law and lovable nephew (Bishan's 10-year-old son) back into the house. Kishan proceeds to become a star and Komal - his trainer professes her love for him. Bishan in the meanwhile falls into a conspiracy further set by his treacherous uncle (Jeevan) and Cousin Jagdish (Ranjeet). He is kidnapped alongside several hostages - primarily children on his shipping vessel, brainwashed, tortured and forced to sign a confession that all the misdeeds have been done by him. Bishan had filed a police complain against his uncle and Jagdish, and as such they were branded as criminals. So, now they wanted to prove that Bishan hijacked his own ship so as to repay his creditors. This was Bishan will be dis-credited, and his uncle and Jagdish would be considered his victims and not oppressors. Bishan loses his mental stability when Jagdish threatens hang little kids unless Bishan signs the confession and goes into shock. Johnny escapes from the Island where the hostages have been kept. Johnny tries to contact Kishan, who tracks Johnny, but Johnny dies in a car accident. Meanwhile Bishan also escapes from the Island. The kids are still kept hostage by Bishan's uncle and Jagdish Bishan is then thrown into an asylum after he has a breakdown and experiences amnesia. Kishan pretends to be mentally ill and admits himself into the asylum by tricking the authorities and saves his friend by reviving his memory successfully by feeding him Rotis as he used to when they were children. Jagdish and uncle ask parents to give ransom money for release of the kids, but they intend to blow up the kids with explosives after the money exchanges hands. Kishan attacks from the front, and Bishan enters the caves from behind to rescue the kids. The movie ends with the children - hostages being saved, the family uniting and the treacherous mastermind Jagdish (Ranjeet) being sent to jail.
