An incomplete book containing nine-and-a-half stories is revealed to be cursed and endangers the life of a bunch of college friends after one of them ends up reading it. During the year 1990 Professor-Author Siddharth Das releases his first book 'Kahi Unkahi Baatein' which contain a total of 10 short stories albeit with the last story 'Krishna Cottage' without any ending. A total of fifty thousand copies are printed and distributed to five different cities in India. Three trucks carrying these copies meet with mysterious accidents, two toppling off cliffs, and one catching fire; and one ship sinks losing it's entire consignment. One copy of this book is found and kept under lock and key in the store-room of J.C. College. Then in 2002 collegians Akshay, Kabir, Nupur, Pulit, Shanti, and Manav, induct new-comer, Disha, to their group, and also invite her to the engagement ceremony of Shanti and Manav. Joint Commissioner of Police Dev Pratap Singh (Amitabh Bachchan), a duty-bound, self-righteous officer (He has just killed a minority community student leader as he was conducting unlawful activities on campus), and Special Commissioner Tejinder Khosla (Om Puri), the balancing force between the political interests of Chief Minister Bhandarker (Amrish Puri) and Dev's commitment to the law, are lifelong friends, each with his own ideals. Tej believes in using excessive force for control, while Dev believes in upholding the rule of law. Tej reminds Dev that his own 8 yrs old son Armaan was killed by the bullet of a Muslim terrorist.. Dr. Bharati Singh (Rati Agnihotri) is Dev's wife. Farhaan (Fardeen Khan), a law graduate, was brought up with ideals of non-violence and patriotism. On a train bound for Bombay from Surat, a Police Inspector questions Farhaan, who has just obtained his law degree, for his reason to go to Bombay, and whether he has any alliance with Pakistanis. Farhaan answers that he is going to Bombay to live with his father, and he does not know anyone from Pakistan. Farhaan finds out that Bombay Police have been targeting the Muslim community, and in the name of fighting terrorism, have been killing innocent Muslim men, women and children. Dev has had a meeting with Muslim community leaders asking them to share list of all people attending their madrasas, their funding and any suspicious activities. corrupt politician Latif (Ehsan Khan) is angry with this biased attitude from Dev, but moderate leader Ali Khan (Pramod Moutho) wants to cooperate with the government. Ali is Farhaan's dad. Farhaan comes to know from Ali that Joint Commissioner of Police, Dev Pratap Singh, is involved in this witch-hunt. Dev orders the encounter of Kareem Khan of Latif's party involved in smuggling of arms. Kareem tries to hide behind his family and as a result, the family is also killed. The community is outraged and launches peaceful demonstrations (egged on by Latif). Latif publicly asks Ali to lead the Morcha. Latif's men start throwing stones & petrol bombs at the police during the Morcha, prompting Dev to open fire. As a result, Ali is killed. Latif meets CM's right hand man MangalRao (Milind Gunaji) and conveys that he helped the CM get elected in exchange for a promise of a MLA ticket. He reminds Mangal Rao for the CM to keep his promise. Meanwhile Farhaan meets Latif and says he wants to kill Dev. Farhaan is provided training in handling guns, and is subsequently made ready for this task. Aaliya (Kareena Kapoor) is the light in Farhaan's life. Beautiful and innocent, the young woman also gets caught in extraordinary circumstances that transform her life and she dares to stand up for the truth. Unfortunately, Farhaan is unable to kill Dev, who escapes unhurt. But one of Farhaan's assistant is killed and is identified to be Latif's man. Chief Minister Bhandarkar views this incident seriously, and instructs Tej to root out terrorist elements in the city. Tej raids Latif's hideouts and manages to capture Farhaan. Farhaan is eventually released as there is no evidence against him. Dev tries to counsel Farhaan that Latif is using him for political purposes. Tej is an ultra Hindu Nationalist, while Dev is a secularist in his views. Dev sees Armaan in Farhaan. Latif is alarmed by Farhaan's release as this was unexpected. He plans to divert their attention by conducting a bomb blast in the city and stoking communal tensions. Latif chooses Farhaan for the job as he does not intend for Farhaan to escape alive. Farhaan is told to deliver a package to a man near a Hindu temple, and he does so. While at a stop to buy some snacks, the package explodes prematurely, killing several people, but Farhaan survives. Since this incident occurred near a Hindu temple, a right-wing political party member, Mangal Rao, organizes a wave of riots against the Muslim community. Riots take place, and CM instructs Tej to observe and not prevent the violence. As a result, hundreds are killed. Latif organizes his men to target and attack Hindus and Hindu establishments, rendering the region unsafe, with people being killed in the name of religion. Dev is at the location, but is under orders from Tej not to act. After waiting, Dev decides to ignore his orders and bring the situation under control. Aaliya escapes sexual assault and Farhaan finds her and takes her to a hospital where Bharati treats her. When Hindus and Muslims have had enough, they publicly ask for peace, it is only then Latif and Mangal Rao agree on a truce, on the condition that no Muslim male, female or child will file a FIR (First Information Report) in any police station, to which Latif agrees. Latif then warns everyone in the Muslim community not to complain against anyone. Period. But Latif frames it as saying that Muslims cannot hope to get Justice from this govt and hence there is no point begging for it. But Aaliya breaks rank and complains to Dev publicly about his police officers and Mangal Rao, whom she had witnessed during the riots. Seeing Aaliya, many witnesses come forward. Mangal Rao is arrested by Dev. CM and Tej want Dev to release Mangal Rao, but he refuses. Latif summons Farhaan and beats him senseless and wants to kill him, but Farhaan escapes. It is then Farhaan finds out that he has been treated as a pawn by Latif, and decides to trust Dev and become an informer. Tej releases Mangal Rao and he plans to kill Aaliya. Tej knows this & stops Dev from helping the victims as Mangal Rao sets fire to the entire colony where Aaliya lived (Aaliya had secretly moved in with Bharati, without Tej or Dev's knowledge). Dev writes a formal complaint against Tej and this leads to a departmental inquiry. As Dev heads to court, he is shot down by unknown assailants on the steps of the court, and it is clear that Tej instigated the shoot-out. Tej tries to use the chaos to shoot Farhaan, but Dev saves him before dying. Tej is riddled with guilt on Dev's death and understands that Dev treated Farhaan like his own son. Tej kills himself and hands over all the evidence to Frahaan so that he can fight the battle in court.

Her father, who single-handedly raised Diva after his wife passed away, decides that Diva should travel to Mumbai to help his friend Raj Chauhan, a confirmed bachelor, run a small orphanage that he has in his home. Diva will stay at the home of the Khannas, who also are friends of her father. Diva then meets Arjun Khanna, a seemingly free-spirited, fun-loving, adventurous guy. The two soon realize, however, that they will be staying in the same house since the Khannas, her father's friends, are Arjun's parents. As if this was not enough, Alexander himself was trapped by Police and the anger and ill will against Joginder Singh Commissioner of Police reached its climax. Alexander got himself free on bail and to take revenge from Joginder Singh, abducted his daughter Jyoti and molested her. Ratan Kumar lives a middle-class existence with his wife, Pushpa and son, Sunder. When he is asked to commit a crime for Balram Singh, he does so, but decides to keep a suitcase full of diamonds for himself. An enraged Balram sets fire to his house. Believing his wife to be dead, Ratan flees, is rescued by Dr. Saigal, taken to the palace of a distraught Maharani Maanwati, who has just lost her son and husband, but is placated after being told that Sunder is her son. For years, Ratan, who now calls himself Ramesh, works for the Maharani, and when Sunder grows up, the Maharani comes to know of Ramesh's existence, finds that he closely resembles her husband, and marries him. Shortly thereafter, Pushpa re-surfaces, an enraged Maharani attempts to kill Ramesh, but ends up killing herself, before dying she asks Sunder to avenge her death. Fleeing from Sunder and the Police's wrath, Ramesh is apprehended by the Police, tried in Court, and sentenced to several years in jail. When he returns, he becomes an underworld don, with a sole motive of bringing an end to Balram, little knowing that Sunder, who now calls himself Shyam, is also on the lookout for him, and has befriended Ravi, Ramesh's second son, who was born during his tenure in prison. Three friends, in their 60s, try to do everything that they couldn't do in their younger days - before death arrives. Choudhry, Jagdishbhai, and Inder Sen are old friends in their early sixties, but believe they are in still in their forties. While Choudhry lives with his wife, Sita, Inder is widowed, and Jagdish is divorced. Their weakness is smoking, alcohol, and women. While they are able to satisfy they need for the first two vices, they are unable to openly indulge with women to their hearts' content while in Bombay. When Sita decides to take a religious pilgrimage, the three decide to travel out of town, and have fun with women. They hire a car driver named Sakharam, who takes them to Goa, and once there, he drives them to a night-club, which has a dancer and singer named Anita. All three friends find Anita gorgeous, and would love to be intimate with her. The movie is about the love between a Tamil man, Vasu (Kamal Haasan), and a North Indian woman, Sapna (Rati Agnihotri), who are neighbors in Goa. The movie begins with an old, ruined building near the beautiful beach of Goa. The dilapidated walls of the building are covered with many names, but two names stand apart from the rest---Vasu and Sapna. Vasu is a happy, carefree young lad who belongs to a Tamil family. He resigns his job after his boss scolds him and he returns to home in Goa. His orthodox Tamilian father V. Sivaramakrishnan (Poornam Vishwanathan) is always at loggerheads with the Hindi-speaking neighbor family. His mom Vandana (Athili Lakshmi). Jagannath (Satyen Kappu) is Siva's good friend (& owner of the house) and frequently comes to their house. Siva is angry with Vasu as he came home after quitting his well paying job. The family has a beautiful daughter named Sapna, a college student. Her father Kundanlal (Arvind Deshpande) and his wife (Shubha Khote) While being stalked by a perverted librarian (Sunil Thapa) on a lonely road, Sapna finds Vasu jogging and starts a conversation with him. Seeing this, the librarian goes away. Sapna thanks Vasu for pretending to be her friend, but he reveals that he doesn't understand Hindi. Vasu wants to make friends with her, but he unfortunately meets an accident and is admitted at the hospital. A shocked and sad Sapna sends him a gift- a mask with her name behind it. Despite the nasty fights between their families, Vasu and Sapna fall madly in love with each other. They get to know each other, experiencing the joy and innocence of first love. One day however, Sapna misunderstands Vasu (when he tries to kiss her on a lonely beach, without her permission) that he too is just lustful and does not love her truly, and she breaks up with him. Despite Vasu's efforts to make her understand his love, Sapna ignores him and is still angry. A week later, Sapna finds Vasu awake all night looking at her window hoping that she would forgive him. Heartbroken at seeing him like that, Sapna forgives him and signals him by turning her room light off and on repeatedly. They meet the next day and Sapna expresses her love for Vasu by kissing his hand. The lovers unite and they go around the beaches, forts, waterfalls and scenic places of Goa. While returning home late night, Vasu's bike runs out of petrol. So they pose as a newly married couple and ask for a lift in a cab. But to their shock, Sapna's father is in the car and he takes her home immediately! Vasu and Sapna keep meeting each other and fall in love even more. One day when Sapna returns from college after meeting Vasu, she finds the perverted librarian at her home. The man has secretly clicked pictures of her and Vasu together and shows it to her parents. Burning with rage, Sapna's mother forbids her from seeing Vasu and accompanies her everywhere she goes. Heartbroken, Vasu makes a plan and stealthily meets Sapna during her college lunch break. They go to a hotel for lunch and Vasu stops the lift halfway to spend sometime with Sapna. He sings a song for her using the broken Hindi he knows and they get carried away. This leads to a huge crowding at the hotel lift and someone calls the police! Vasu and Sapna's families are informed about this and they are mad with rage! Sapna is locked at home and Vasu's father scolds him very badly. Despite the opposition, Vasu boldly goes and meets Sapna in her home in the presence of her parents and expresses his love for her by kissing her on the lips. Sapna's mother screams and calls everyone claiming that Vasu is ruining their family honor. Finally, both the families meet and Vasu and Sapna clearly affirm their love for each other. Their families agree to get them married on one condition-that they should separate from each other for one year without any kind of contact. After such a period, if they still want to be together, they can get married. During the year there should be no contact between them whatsoever. Vasu and Sapna reluctantly agree to the contract hoping that they can finally get married after one year. Vasu goes to Hyderabad for a job, while Sapna stays back in Goa. During their year of separation, Vasu writes a letter every day to Sapna, in which he expressed his pain and feelings, but doesn't send it to her because of the contract. He learns to speak Hindi fluently from a young widow named Sandhya (Madhavi), to make Sapna's parents happy. And to drown his pain of separation, he also learns dance from Sandhya. On the other hand, Sapna visits all the places where she and Vasu used to go. Each time she walks past those places, all their memories come alive. She also visits a rocky hill by the beach, where their names 'Vasu' and 'Sapna' are painted on the highest rock. In order to make Sapna forget Vasu, her mother destroys the audio tape that he had given her. She also burns Vasu's only photo that Sapna had. In response, Sapna writes Vasu's name all over her bedroom wall, making her family even more angry. Sapna goes on a college trip to Mangalore, where her mother sends her relative Chakram (Rakesh Bedi) (whom she had called from Lucknow to woo Sapna and get her to forget Vasu) to spy on her. Chakram wants to marry Sapna, but she doesn't like him. Coincidentally, Vasu also comes to Mangalore due to a job assignment. He spots Sapna and follows her to her hotel room, but bumps into Chakram, who lies that he and Sapna are married! A shocked Vasu meets Sapna's college friends and asks about her, but they also tell that Chakram and Sapna are soon to be married. Vasu is heartbroken and proposes to Sandhya. She readily accepts and their wedding is fixed. The librarian meets Vasu in Hyderabad (he was attending a book fair) and learns Vasu is engaged to Sandhya. He goes to Goa and relates the incident to Sapna and her parents. When coming to meet him, she finds all the letters he wrote to Sapna, and discovers the truth. Sandhya goes to Goa and meets Sapna and finds that she is not married and is waiting for Vasu. Seeing their true love, Sandhya sacrifices her love and decides to unite Vasu and Sapna She tells the truth to Vasu and cancels their wedding, urging him to go and meet his beloved Sapna as their one-year contract was getting over. Sandhya's older brother Beni hears that the wedding is canceled and thinks that Vasu cheated his sister. In a drunken state, he phones his criminal friend in Goa and asks him to 'completely get rid' of Vasu! Sandhya gets to know that Beni has issued the order to kill Vasu. She confronts Beni, who admits that he was intoxicated. But the Goa criminal contact has already left. Sandhya calls Sapna's mother, since Vasu's house did not have a phone. Sapna's mom promises to give the message that Vasu is in danger, but then decides to keep the news to herself. Vasu reaches home, but Sapna is at the beach. The librarian follows Sapna to the beach and wants to sexually assault her for all the insults over the months meted out to him. Meanwhile Vasu reaches the beach and is confronted by Beni's criminal friend and his gang. The librarian sexually assaults Sapna brutally and runs away on his bike. Meanwhile the gang is about to stab Vasu, but run away after hearing the librarian's bike. Sapna and Vasu unite, but both are badly injured. They relate each other's tale and fall off the cliff in a tight embrace.. They are killed on impact.

Kishinchand is a Customs Officer based in Bombay. He has been assigned to infiltrate and expose a gang of smugglers and drug dealers headed by two gangsters named Jaggan and Ajay Kumar. When Ajay's brother, Vijay, becomes a Police Informer, he is shot dead by Ajay, who not only regrets his death, but also is feeling guilty about his son taking to drugs. When his son succumbs to an overdose, Vijay starts to provide information to the police with the hope of ending all criminal activity by Jaggan and his men. He does succeed considerably, only to have his daughter, Rajni, abducted and held for ransom. Vijay agrees to testify against Jaggan only if the Police and Kishinchand locate Rajni first. The question is will Kishinchand be able to locate Rajni before Jaggan and his men kill her, and even if so, there is no guarantee that Ajay will long, especially when a brutal killer, Billa, who has never failed any assignment, has been hired to kill him at any and all costs. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
