This is the story of Venu, a middle class young man who lives in a typical middle class area. His simple life revolves around his loving mother, sister, his neighbor and his friends. He has an inferiority complex because of the scar on his face. On one fateful day, Venu decides to do a plastic surgery to remove the scar from his face. In order to raise money for his operation, he takes up various part time jobs. He becomes harsh and cold and starts behaving strangely with his family and friends. This new Venu leaves everyone around him in a state of shock. The rest of the story is about what he realizes in the process of getting his new face job. —Hariharan

Crime Branch is headed by Sadhu Agashe (Nana Patekar). It is the section of the Mumbai Police Department responsible for handling the underworld related cases. Agashe joined the police in October 1985, and it has been 19 years since then. He joined the Special Forces in 1994. Sadhu is the city's best inspector, with an enviable reputation and record of encounter shootings. Sadhu is known for apprehending criminals and shooting them down. He then makes it look like an "encounter", where the criminal and the police got into a shootout, and the criminal was shot dead in resultant police firing. Sadhu is a media sensation for eliminating many known underworld hit-men. Though tough, he is a loving husband to his wife Namita (Revathi) and son Aman (Tanmay Jahagirdar) and also helps his informers and other poor people in times of need. His immediate junior, Imtiyaz Siddiqui (Yashpal Sharma) despises Sadhu to no end; he feels Sadhu intentionally belittles him. Sadhu does not believe that Imtiyaz has reliable sources and discourages him from taking any action. Also, Imtiyaz is more concerned about adding to his encounter score and therefore ends up killing more than the primary target which is the main reason Sadhu dislikes him. To add to his woes, Imtiyaz is unable to surpass Sadhu's encounter "score" of 50. Imtiyaz himself is at 41. Jatin (Nakul Vaid) is a rookie to this line of policing who manages to impress Sadhu. The inspector takes the newcomer under his wing, further antagonizing Imtiyaz. Jatin follows Sadhu's instructions to the letter and doesn't get into the morality of their actions. Sadhu even invites Jatin and his fiance Vaishali (Hrishitaa Bhatt) for dinner at his home. Imtiyaz feels that he is being deliberately kept away from meaningful assignments that lead to fame and promotions. All of them report to the Commissioner Pradhan (Mohan Agashe) who is a fair and honest police officer. Pradhan knows about Sadhu's encounters and protects him as he knows that there is no evidence against the underworld and thus, they will never be punished by the courts. Sadhu establishes a love-hate friendship on the phone with Zameer (Prasad Purandare), a notorious underworld leader based abroad, who grudgingly admires Sadhu for his no-nonsense attitude. Zameer and rival don, Rajshekhar run the Mumbai underworld. Zameer believes that police is eliminating his gang by being in cahoots with Rajshekhar. Sadhu retorts that he himself has killed 16 of Rajshekhar's men. Sadhu Agashe's world begins to turn upside down as Pradhan retires and with the entrance of the new commissioner, Suchak (Jeeva) who has a strong link to the Don, Rajshekhar. Suchak doesn't like that Sadhu is a hero for the media, who ignore his press conference to interview Sadhu. Suchak signals his intentions to Sadhu when he reopens the cases files against Sadhu. Jatin knows that Suchak is against Sadhu and tries to warn him. Pradhan tells Sadhu that senior officers are temporary and that he should not abandon his path. Suchak takes a liking towards Imtiyaz who is willing to do encounters primarily of Zameer's men mainly on Rajshekhar's orders. During one the raids against Rajshekhar's main hit-man Feroz (Parvez Fazal Khan), Imtiaz messes up, resulting in the death of Feroz's mother & Feroz's arrest (Sadhu didn't kill Feroz as he was under orders from Suchak to capture him alive). Shortly thereafter, Feroz escapes custody. Suchak starts undermining and belittling Sadhu. Sadhu continues on his honest path. Eventually, the pressures of his career take a toll on his personal life as Sadhu's wife is killed by an assassin's bullet, which was meant for Sadhu. All the suspicion falls on Feroz, but Sadhu is unable to trace him down. Suchak orders Sadhu not to follow any leads against Feroz without any solid evidence. When Sadhu threatens to resign, Suchak installs Imtiyaz as the new Head of the Crime Branch. During his personal investigation into this matter, Sadhu kills a few right-hand men of Rajshekhar. Sadhu is compelled to resign from the force and Suchak (on Rajshekhar's orders) sends Imtiyaz to kill Sadhu. Sadhu manages to kill him and in a peculiar chain of events, Sadhu Agashe, a once famed inspector, becomes a fugitive of the law. Suchak announces shoot at sight orders against Sadhu despite Pradhan's advice to the contrary. Sadhu is forced to ask Zameer for help in escaping from India. Meanwhile Jatin, who has been growing increasingly disenchanted by Suchak's behavior, resigns and calls for a press conference and exposes Suchak's connection to Rajshekhar. Suchak disputes this but is suspended pending investigation. Sadhu goes to Zameer's HQ and thanks him for releasing him and tells him that he is now Zameer's man. As Zameer and Sadhu are drinking alone celebrating this, Sadhu breaks a glass and uses the sharp edge to kill Zameer and escape. Before killing Zameer, Sadhu had accused him of killing his wife & then framing Feroz for the same. At a location abroad, Sadhu and Pradhan are having coffee. Pradhan asks Sadhu about why he has run away thereby proving the allegations against him, Sadhu tells him that it is part of his plan. He was able to kill Zameer as a fugitive which he never could have as a cop. He says that he will now go to Rajshekhar since Rajshekhar is thrilled at Zameer's death and kill him too. Sadhu says that he doesn't care what the world thinks of him, and he will always be a cop and will continue his work of eliminating crime until he dies. He requests Pradhan to look after his son who is with his aunt in Pune and Pradhan contemplatively agrees.

Tamanna Sahni (Shilpa Shetty) is a dedicated staff member of a top advertising agency; her ideas and designs have mainly contributed to the agency's success. She leaves for a college reunion and meets her college sweetheart Rohit (Salman Khan). They rekindle their love and share some intimate moments. Eventually Rohit leaves and Tamanna settles back into her daily routine. When her sister Tanya has an accident she decides to give her own blood to save her, until Dr. Raisingh (Revathi) tells her she has tested positive for HIV. Tamanna's world turns upside-down and she desperately tries to contact Rohit, but in vain. Her situation is soon spread around the office and she loses her job. Angered by her unfair dismissal she searches for a lawyer to fight her case. Eventually Tarun Anand (Abhishek Bachchan) agrees to represent her. The rest of the story shows if Tarun can help destroy the prejudice put upon Tamanna.

Right from Peon to Principal, and from the most lowly menial staff to the office of the Prime Minister, modern secular India is embedded in corruption by officials who brag that even if Mahatma Gandhi were to approach them to grant access to his very own Sabarmati Ashram, he would not be spared. In this era a honest man is defined as one who readily accepts a bribe and does the needful, while a dishonest man is one who accepts a bribe but refuses to do the needful. It is in this atmosphere that the Kapoor family live. This family consists of Suresh Kumar Kapoor, a Professor at a Delhi college; his wife, Sarita, who is a Librarian, and a son who is Captain Rohit in the 7th Jat Regiment of the Indian Army. Suresh is pitted against the corrupt system when he receives word that his son has been killed in Kargil, when the fragile truce between Pakistan and India was broken, resulting in thousands of deaths on both sides. In condolence, Suresh and Sarita receive messages from various army officials, politicians, including the State Chief Minister as well the President of India. Their to-be daughter-in-law, Peehu A. Verma is shattered by Rohit's death, and decides never to get married. The army offers them a plot of land so that they can open a petrol pump as a means of livelihood. Suresh, Peehu and a reluctant Sarita decide to call it "Kargil Heights" and go about obtaining the necessary documents to get it running, little knowing that the corrupt system will not permit them to take a step forward without bribing it's officers, of all ranks, who will refuse to issue any permit unless and until their palms are greased. A son becomes a liquor baron against his father's wishes. After losing their ancestral home to an enemy, he kidnaps the enemy's daughter for revenge but falls in love with her, leading to conflict between the families. The story begins with the fall of Mangalasserry Neelakandan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakandan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakandan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasserry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathi) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge. Neelakandan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him, during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead Neelakandan gets killed and Karthikeyan ventures out to kill Mundakkal Shekharan. —Akhil Krishnan

Control over a newspaper, causes a family to split apart and have problems.

The Sharma family, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Sharma, their daughter Mini, and nephew Bunty, move into a spacious house in the city to start fresh. Shortly after arrival, Bunty discovers a black cat in the backyard and becomes attached to it, but the cat is accidentally killed when Mr. Sharma runs it over with his car. The family buries the animal without telling Bunty to spare his feelings. Days later, Bunty finds another cat that looks identical to the dead one, which deeply unsettles the family and marks the beginning of their supernatural troubles. Mini, who is romantically involved with a young man named Deepak, begins experiencing strange episodes. During one outing, their motorcycle gets a flat tire, and when Deepak leaves to fix it, he returns to find Mini sitting by a pond, crying and displaying reddened eyes with an altered, disturbing demeanor. In this state, she pushes Deepak into the pond before immediately returning to normal with no memory of her actions. This incident establishes the pattern of Mini's possession, during which an external entity takes control while her conscious self remains unaware. The situation escalates tragically when Mini's close friend Rashmi is found dead with her neck twisted completely backwards in an unnatural position. Police investigate Mini as a suspect when they observe her playing with a doll and methodically twisting its head in the exact manner matching Rashmi's fatal injury. This disturbing behavior, combined with her blackout episodes, convinces the authorities that Mini may be responsible, though her parents struggle to reconcile their loving daughter with these horrific acts. Mr. Sharma, representing a modern, rational worldview, insists that Mini's condition is psychological and arranges consultations with a psychiatrist. He refuses to entertain supernatural explanations, believing that science and medicine can address whatever mental disturbance his daughter is experiencing. The psychiatric evaluation yields no clear diagnosis, and Mini's episodes continue to worsen in frequency and intensity. She exhibits inhuman strength during these states, her voice changes dramatically, and her physical contortions suggest something beyond ordinary mental illness. Mrs. Sharma, increasingly desperate and convinced that medical intervention is failing, turns to traditional spiritual explanations against her husband's wishes. She believes her daughter is genuinely possessed by a demonic entity and seeks help from Sharji, an exorcist with experience in dealing with supernatural afflictions. This creates tension in the marriage as the parents' conflicting approaches to their daughter's crisis reflect broader cultural tensions between modernity and tradition, Western medicine and indigenous spiritual practices. Sharji examines Mini and confirms Mrs. Sharma's worst fears, identifying the presence of a malevolent spirit that has attached itself to the girl, likely connected to the death and mysterious reappearance of the black cat. He explains that the entity is strengthening its hold and will eventually consume Mini entirely if not driven out. The exorcist prepares for a ritual confrontation, warning the family that the process will be dangerous and that the demon will fight violently to maintain its host. The exorcism sequence forms the film's climactic confrontation, with the possessed Mini displaying full demonic behavior, speaking in altered voices, demonstrating supernatural strength, and physically attacking those trying to help her. Sharji performs traditional rituals involving mantras, sacred objects, and spiritual authority to weaken the entity's grip. The demon causes Mini's body to levitate and contort in impossible ways, while objects in the room move and break as the spiritual battle intensifies. Mr. Sharma, witnessing phenomena that defy rational explanation, finally abandons his skepticism and supports the exorcism process. Through sustained ritual effort and the family's unified emotional support, Sharji succeeds in driving the possessing entity from Mini's body. The demon is expelled in a violent final confrontation that leaves Mini physically and emotionally drained but fundamentally herself again. The ordeal ends with the entity banished, though the film suggests that such forces remain present in the world, their defeat in this instance offering no guarantee against future supernatural threats. The Sharma family, traumatized but intact, must rebuild their lives with the knowledge that the boundaries between the natural and supernatural worlds are far more permeable than they had believed, and that some threats cannot be addressed through modern rationality alone but require acknowledgment of older, spiritual dimensions of existence.
