Jacob Harlon is a successful stockbroker living with his wife, Katherine, and son Joshua, in California. One night he drives his wife and friends home after dinner and causes a collision which kills one of his friends. Advised to take a plea deal due to him being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, Jacob is sentenced to 16 months at the California Institution for Men in Chino. Shocked by the brutality of prison life, Harlon stands his ground and attacks an African-American inmate when provoked, drawing the attention of Bottles, the "shot caller" for a violent white supremacist gang, PENI. In return for protection and entry into the gang, Jacob is forced to smuggle heroin and kill a "snitch" within the gang. Harlon rises in rank, obtains the alias "Money", and acquires several gang-related tattoos. Harlon also appears muscular and his personality changes dramatically, hardened by prison life. During a riot, Harlon stabs another inmate to save the life of the head of the Sureños, but is caught on camera. This earns him respect from other gang leaders, however he is sentenced to nine more years. Harlon ceases all contact with his family, demanding that they move on and forget him. Harlon is transferred to Corcoran State Prison under maximum-security. There, he is introduced to an inmate called "The Beast", who commands the Aryan Brotherhood, the top of the white prison gang hierarchy. Impressed with Harlon's dedication, Beast promotes him to his second-in-command. Set to be released after serving over seven years, Harlon is ordered by Beast to orchestrate a weapons deal with the Sureños. Knowing he will be on parole, Harlon hesitates until Beast informs him that membership in the gang does not end when leaving prison and threatens his family. Upon release, he is greeted by "Shotgun" and other gang members, including Howie, a young Afghanistan war veteran with no criminal record. Harlon survives an attack at a party and orders Howie to answer to no one but him. Harlon's parole officer Ed Kutcher, is tipped off about the weapons deal and places Harlon under surveillance. As Harlon prepares to sell a cache of weapons, Howie reveals that he does not want to become a gang member. Harlon also discovers Shotgun is Kutcher's informant. After Harlon transfers his finances to his wife, she brings Joshua to meet him against his wishes. Seeing how his son has grown up without him, Harlon holds his emotions. Joshua demands answers but is unable to understand his father's gang life. Harlon shuts the door and has a brief emotional breakdown. On the day of the deal, Harlon escapes his surveillance and goes to Shotgun's house where he kills him. Kutcher finds Shotgun's body and retrieves his cellphone. After meeting the Sureños, Harlon texts their coordinates to Shotgun's cellphone. Realizing that Shotgun hid more of the weapons to sell himself, Harlon warns Howie to leave the criminal life. and forces him out of the vehicle. As the deal closes, the police, ATF, and SWAT-alerted by Harlon's text-surround the gangs; only Howie escapes and watches from a distance, realizing Harlon saved his life. Fully validated, Harlon is sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole. He turns down Kutcher's offer to testify against Beast in exchange for a full pardon. Harlon is returned to Corcoran, where a corrupt prison guard brings him to Beast. Realizing Harlon was responsible for the raid, Beast orders him to live out his sentence with the guilt that his family will be killed for his actions. This provokes Harlon, having smuggled in a handcuff key and a razor blade, he frees himself. Harlon subdues the guard and forces him to drop his radio before locking him in a cell. Beast realizes that Harlon tipped off law enforcement knowing he would be sent back to Corcoran. Harlon unlocks Beast's cage and a brief fight ensues leaving Beast mortally wounded. Harlon watches a dying Beast and demands "nobody's touching my family". He orders the prison guard to claim that he acted in self-defense, and assumes Beast's place as the new leader atop the gang hierarchy. With his family's safety secured, Harlon accepts his life sentence, and notifies Kutcher about the remaining weapons. He receives a letter from Joshua, explaining that he and Katherine are moving on, living a successful and happy life, and that he has forgiven his father. This touches Harlon emotionally as he looks at pictures of his former life with his family. He realizes that sacrificing his own freedom to kill Beast was the only way he could truly protect his family from his other enemies. The film ends with Harlon exercising in the yard.

A moving story of a father who goes undercover in order to free his son as he was being charged for distribution of drugs.while the reality is that he is not a drug dealer.

The family man Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) is living the American Dream with his girlfriend Laura (Marisol Nichols) and their son Michael: they have a nice house; he has just raised a loan to make his company grow and they are going to get married. However, their dream becomes a nightmare when Wade unintentionally kills a burglar that had broken into their house in the middle of the night on his lawn. Wade chased the burglar out of the house and hits him in the head with a baseball bat, unintentionally killing him on his lawn. For attacking an unarmed intruder after he exited the house, he is arrested and charged with murder. Wade is put on trial and accepts a deal proposed by the prosecutor. At the urging of his public defender, he enters a plea of no contest in exchange for a reduced sentence of three years for involuntary manslaughter. During the transportation, there is an incident in the bus. During the bus ride to prison Danny Sampson (Chris Browning), leader of the local Aryan Brotherhood, stabs a man and hides the knife with young Aryan member Snowman (Johnny Lewis) who is sitting behind Wade. In a moment's panic, Snowman hides the knife under Wade's seat and forces him to deny knowledge of it. As a result, Wade is sent to solitary confinement until the stabbing can be investigated. Lieutenant Jackson interrogates him about the stabbing, but he doesn't cooperate with the investigation. Jackson (Harold Perrineau) decides to send Wade to the Security Housing Unit (SHU) in Corcoran State Prison where he is the commanding officer. Jackson overrides the advice of this top security person & puts Wade in with the common hardened criminals who are residents at his facility. Jackson refuses to show any leniency for Wade's crime free past. In the middle of the gloom and the daily carefully monitored & humiliating existence, John Smith (Val Kilmer) walks into the prison & is assigned as cell mate to Wade. John is sympathetic to Wade & takes him under his wings. John Smith is serving a life sentence after avenging the death of his family. Inmates here are under 23-hour lock-down and not permitted to have visitors for the first three months. Wade discovers the daily hour of yard time consists of inmate fights, on which the officers bet. Jackson watches the developing friendship between Wade & John. John saves Wade from the Nazi skinhead gang in prison when they turn on Wade when Wade refuses to fight the Hispanics as the Nazi's crony. The Nazi skinhead gang lead promises revenge to John. In addition to the prison violence, Wade's regular visits with Laura start to take their toll on their relationship. Michael has nightmares after visiting, and the family's finances are running low. Jackson resorts to heavy violence to control the gang wars within prison. His officers James (Nate Parker) & Cormack are not supportive of this & want to do things by the book. But Jackson always manages to convince them to his point of view with an evil streak in his eyes. Jackson arranges cockfights between Wade and the Hispanics & bets on them with his colleagues. Wade refuses to fight. Jackson threatens Wade to implicate him in the murder of the inmate on the prison transport bus & extend his stay in the prison when Wade had only 4 months to go on his term. After Wade refuses to identify Sampson as the perpetrator of the murder on the bus, Jackson falsely testifies that he was an accessory to the murder, resulting in an additional three years being added to his existing sentence. Wade is sentenced to 6 years in prison on this second conviction that was implanted by Jackson & was based purely on his testimony on Wade's violent conduct in prison. After the second conviction, Wade's wife who was under a lot of stress due to financial problems, leaves Wade. Broken and enraged, he resorts to fighting the prisoners in exchange for protection from Sampson and the Aryan Brotherhood. But later on, his wife comes back to Wade & wants to make up. Wade decides that what Jackson did was wrong & wants to expose him so that he can get his life back. Wade agrees to participate in Jackson's cock fights, but then simultaneously asks his wife to contact one of John's relatives who knows a high official in the DA's office. Upon hearing Wade's wife's allegations about prison cockfights, the DA agrees to visit the prison the same day Wade has alleged a cockfight will take place. In the fight, Wade defeats his opponent, but refuses to kill him. Jackson threatens Wade with his life, but the entire prison stands behind Wade & Jackson has to back down. Jackson clears the yard out, where the fights take place, except for John & Wade & shuts the surveillance video. He enters the yard, has Wade & John covered with a sharpshooter & attacks them with a carving knife. James, already angry, does not agree with this behavior & turns on the surveillance video. As Jackson attacks, John pulls out a knife from his spectacles & stabs Jackson in the neck, killing him. The sharpshooter takes John out. The DA reaches the prison just then & seizes the video tapes documenting the entire sequence & essentially clearing up Wade's name in the process. Wade is released upon completion of his original term. He is released after 15 months in prison and reunited with his family.

George Kuffs, 21, leaves a pregnant girlfriend. He visits his brother Brad to bum money off him. Brad's shot and George IDs the killer at SFPD but to no avail. He inherits Brad's patrol district. He keeps it to get the killer. George Kuffs didn't finish high-school, just lost his job and his girlfriend who still is in college is pregnant. Since he can't see how he can support her, he thinks she is better off without him. So he visits his elder brother, Brad, to squeze him for a loan so he can go to Brazil where there's a gold-rush going on. Unfortunately Brad is killed and George is suddenly the owner of Brad's "patrol special" district. —Lars J. He goes to his brother, Brad to ask him for money but Brad puts his foot down and tells George it's time to shape up. Brad runs a Special Police Force and tells George to work for him. Before he could decide, Brad is killed. George sees the man who killed him, but because he didn't actually see him kill his brother the man is released. George takes over his brother's district and sets out to get the man who killed his brother. The police assign a detective to keep an eye on him but George finds a way around him and nearly gets killed. His employees don't think he should be in charge. And a man approaches George and offers to buy his district which George thinks is suspicious. So he follows him too. —rcs0411@yahoo.com
