Tom (Josh Duhamel), Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and their families gather for an ultimate destination wedding on a private island in the Philippines. The wedding party includes Tom's mother Carol, father Larry (Steve Coulter) sister Jeannie (Melissa Hunter), and friend Ricky (Desmin Borges). Darcy's side includes mother Renata (Sonia Braga), father Robert, and sister Jamie (Callie Hernandez). Robert has brought his girlfriend Harriet to the wedding. Robert also invites Darcy's ex-fiance Sean to the wedding and he arrives in a helicopter. Sean has a jet-setting global career, while Tom's contract with his professional baseball team has just expired and he is technically homeless. Darcy and Sean worked together in the Peace Corps and were even engaged in the past. Tom and Darcy are financing the wedding themselves, and Tom is obsessed with making everything perfect. Darcy's mother says that she should have taken her father's money and hired an event manager. Renata is a bit of a snob and looks down upon Carol, who is travelling out of the country or the first time. The rehearsal dinner is a disaster when Tom makes a toast which was not funny, and everybody ended up liking Sean's toast. Tom spends the entire night finishing pineapple centerpieces for the wedding. Tom is bothered that Darcy was engaged to Sean in the past. Darcy says that Sean started working with Robert and then changed. He only cared about status and money and so Darcy broke up with him. Ricky is Tom's best man ad Jamie sleeps with him the night before the wedding. Darcy summons Tom to a secluded part of the Island for a talk. She says that she is having second thoughts, and Tom agrees saying that they have been arguing more the last few months than they did in the first 4 years of their relationship. Darcy is sick of Tom trying to make everything perfect, while Tom says that Darcy doesn't even care about the wedding. Darcy says that she never wanted a big wedding as she is a grown woman. She never wanted Robert walking her down the aisle, or a big princess dress or even a wedding registry. She adds that she went ahead with it as she loved Tom. Now Tom wants to call off the wedding, and Darcy throws her ring at him, which he catches. Just as the couple are away arguing about the wedding, their guests are taken hostage. The pirates push all the wedding guests into the pool, which they use as a prison. The pirates demand $45 million dollars from Darcy's wealthy father Robert (Cheech Marin). He refuses to pay until he has proof that Darcy is alive. As they try to evade recapture, Darcy and Tom air their respective doubts about the wedding. Darcy and Tom are captured apart from the wedding party, but manage to escape their captors, killing one of the pirates. Darcy and Tom's hands are tied, and Darcy is holding a grenade in her hands without a pin. Darcy gives Tom a mobile phone that she had hid in her underwear before being captured, but the island has no cell reception. They head to the highest point on the island to find reception, but the pirates chase them, and they have to use the zip line to escape. Darcy drops the grenade on the pirates and kills 2. They reach the wedding venue and find all their guests have been taken hostage. They hide in the kitchen where they try to use a meat cutter to cut their ties. But Tom ends up slashing his hand and Darcy falls unconscious from the sight of blood. Their cries alert the pirates to their presence. Tom and semi-conscious Darcy work together to kill another pirate who comes to investigate the noise from the kitchen. They then go to manager's office to find internet but have no luck. Margy (Selena Tan) the manager pulls Darcy and Tom into a secret vault under her office. Margy says that Tom knew that there was a pirate attack at the island even last season. Cornered hiding in a vault beneath the manager's office, Tom surrenders to them so Darcy can stay hidden. When he rejoins the rest of the wedding party, Tom reveals that Darcy's ex-fiance Sean (Lenny Kravitz) had hired the pirates. Tom had found Sean's invitation card in the pockets of one of the killed pirates. Tom suspects that Sean orchestrated the entire attack to steal money from Robert. With his plot exposed, Sean goes to hunt down Darcy in a helicopter, taking Robert's girlfriend Harriet (D'Arcy Carden) as a hostage. Meanwhile, Darcy joins Tom and the rest at the pool where she and Tom admit that they still want to marry. The wedding party members realize that Harriet was in on the plot with Sean. Tom asks the two pirates standing guard to let them complete the wedding ceremony, and Robert says that he will release the money if they let them get married. As the guests sing "I'll Be", Tom and Darcy rush the pirates, and Darcy takes a grenade off one. One pirate surrenders, the other runs, then begins firing on the venue. Tom's mother Carol (Jennifer Coolidge) grabs a weapon from the ground and returns fire. Darcy throws the grenade in the air so Tom can bat it at the pirate, who is killed in the explosion (which also sets off the fireworks that had been staged for the wedding celebration). As the wedding party goes to safety, Darcy and Tom race to get help, but are confronted on the dock by Sean. Tom fights him, then Tom and Darcy escape in a boat. Harriet tries to stop them in a helicopter. Sean, who had managed to stay with them by grabbing a mooring line, climbs aboard and fights Tom again while Darcy drives the boat. A para-sail is released, taking Tom and Sean into the air. Tom zips down the line to the boat deck. He and Darcy cut the line, sending the para-sail loose into the helicopter's rotors, which kills both Sean and Harriet. Back on the beach, as authorities take the remaining pirates into custody, Tom and Darcy get married.

The movie begins in a noisy neighborhood in The Bronx where most people are Latino. Then there is a noisy apartment where Chino and wife Lisette seem to be having sex while their kids are getting really frustrated about something. An old woman hits the ceiling with a broom because she's tired of the noise up above. Chino is a bike messenger who doesn't have much but he tries. He also "plays the numbers", the same number every time. I assume that's a lottery reference. C (Li'l Chino, eight years old) and Minnie (around the same age) are his kids but it's not clear they are Lisette's. Pee Wee is in diapers and may be Lisette's. Chino's mom Rosaria is proud of her Castilian (European) heritage and seems bothered by her grandchildren being black. C has friends who want to get him to do things his parents disapprove of, and C seems to have no problem with doing things that might be illegal, as long as he's making money. Chino's brother was killed because he was dealing drugs, so he will not tolerate his son doing the same. Lisette hasn't had a paying job but takes care of the kids. Her parents run a food cart. Her father is dark-skinned and may have had an African accent. Lisette gets frustrated early in the movie and goes to stay with her sister Alexis in the same building, Alexis seems like a man. She is in fact transitioning and her parents most definitely do not approve. Alexis runs a store which, according to what someone said, sells "botanicals". The 'hood is typical of what one would expect in New York City. People have lots of friends but they have a funny way of being friendly. People from quieter neighborhoods might assume they are all being mean to each other. The power goes out and there is looting. Chino ends up in jail. Earlier, Lisette was trying to get a stereo fixed, or a new stereo. She refuses to pawn her wedding ring, at least at first. Lisette refuses welfare when it comes down to that. for a while. And gets humiliated when she tries to use her benefits. Magdalena, who Chino was with once, claims her baby is his and if he will just own up to it, he can have a job at her bodega, which she runs with her father. Lisette did get paid for modeling once, so she goes to a modeling agency where the receptionist is quite rude. Val walks in, looking like she has been successful in the business, but she's actually looking to hire a model, not be one. Her record company needs someone to help her boss Mr. Price impress singers referred to as the Mendez Brothers. Chino doesn't want Lisette to take that job, but Lisette schemes her way into a meeting anyway and impresses Mr. Price into making her the person who knows how to make talent look good. Chino hears other details about the relationship between Lisette and Mr. Price. Throughout the rest of the movie, Lisette and Chino struggle to stay together and to keep the kids out of trouble. Chino seems abusive at first but actually comes up with creative ways to parent. And then he does something unspeakable (but not to his kids), but apparently there are no consequences. Things never get so bad they can't get better.

Witty character study of three couples who vacation together each season. After one divorces, feelings of betrayal and more spawn criticisms of one another, but things that unite them are stronger than those which might pull them apart. Middle-aged couples Jack and Kate Burroughs, Nick and Anne Callan, and Danny and Claudia Zimmer are best friends who do everything together. As couples, they have weathered the flood of divorces that has beset their other friends. When one of the six decides to make a change in life, the other five are forced to examine their marriages, their friendships with one another, the true meaning of love, and their own personal foibles. Over the course of one year, the movie is set against the backdrop of four vacations they take together, one in each of the four seasons, with Antonio Vivaldi's associated suite of music introducing each. Alma Winemiller, of an age when most women would be married, has an affected manner, which she attributes to assuming the role usually undertaken by a minister's wife after her mother long ago suffered a mental breakdown. Also being a minister's daughter has led to Alma having a repressed view of sex and sexuality. She has long harbored a secret love toward the Winemullers' next door neighbor, Dr. John Buchanan, Jr., he following in his father's footsteps. That occupation is the only thing connecting the two generations of Buchanan men, the younger known as the town's bad boy in his wild behavior, largely taking place when he is away, he usually only coming home in the summer. This summer, he pursues equally wild Rosa Zacharias, new to town as the daughter of the new owner of the Moon Lake Casino located on the outskirts of town. Regardless, John is aware of Alma's attraction to him, he, in return, intrigued in noticing in her something seething somewhere below the surface. The question then becomes if Alma and John will ever be able to come together both emotionally and sexually. —Huggo

A fight set to music between an American gang, the Jets, and a rival gang, the Sharks, who have moved into the Jets' territory from Puerto Rico. We are introduced to the leader of the Jets, Riff (Russ Tamblyn), and the leader of the Sharks, Bernardo (George Chakiris). The Sharks start the fight when they jump Baby John, one of the most developed characters. The police arrive, led by Lieutenant Schrank (Simon Oakland) and Officer Krumpke (William Bramley), and demands that the gang disperse. When they are alone, the Jets begin to discuss what they will do about the Sharks. Riff declares that they will end the conflict on their terms by challenging the Sharks to one last all out fight, or "rumble". they deliver the challenge to the Sharks at the dance being held that night at the local gym, which is considered neutral territory. Action (Tony Mordente) asks to be Riff's lieutenant for the challenge and council, but the Jets leader insists on using Tony (Richard Beymer), Riff's best friend, and co-founder of the Jets. Tony has since begun to drift away from the gang, and the Jets think he doesn't belong any more. Riff tells them firmly that once you're a Jet, you stay a Jet and reassures them of their invincibility before going off to find his friend ("Jet Song"). Riff meets Tony, who now has a job at a local store run by a man named Doc (Ned Glass), and tries to persuade him to come to the dance at the gym that night. Having no real interest in the Jets' conflict with the Sharks, Tony initially refuses and tries to explain to Riff that lately he expects something very important will be coming into his life, but later reconsiders out of loyalty, when he thinks about what might happen there ("Something's Coming"). We are then introduced to Bernardo's sister, Maria (Natalie Wood). She is complaining to Bernardo's feisty ladyfriend, Anita (Rita Moreno), that she never gets to do anything exciting. Bernardo arrives and takes her to the dance, where she meets some friends, Rosalia and Consuelo. Bernardo meets up with his friends. The Jets meet, and a dance montage takes place ("Dance At The Gym"). Glad Hand (John Astin), the chaperon at the dance, tries to make the gangs mix with a get-together dance, but when he is not looking, the boys swap back to their original partners. In the midst of all the excitement, Tony and Maria see each other, and immediately fall in love. They begin to dance, but are interrupted by Bernardo, who angrily orders Maria home, and tells Tony to stay away from his sister. Tony leaves in a happy daze ("Maria") while Riff invites Bernardo to the "war council", for which they agree to meet at Doc's Candy Store. Back at the Sharks' tenement building, Anita defends Maria's right to dance with whom she pleases, as do the other girls, but Bernardo will not listen. A bitter argument ensues, in which it emerges that the girls love their life in America while the boys hate it ("America"). Tony visits Maria at her tenement block, mirroring the balcony scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and they confirm their love ("Tonight"). They arrange to meet the next day at Madame Lucia's bridal shop, when Maria has finished her work. The same night, after the dance, the Jets and Sharks meet to decide where their planned rumble will take place. Before the Sharks arrive, the Jets, accompanied by Anybodys (Susan Oakes), a tomboy who desperately wants to be one of them, are visited by Officer Krupke, who warns them not to cause trouble on his beat. When he leaves, they lampoon him, along with judges, psychiatrists and social workers ("Gee, Officer Krupke"). Tony bursts in while the Jets and Sharks are in conference, and demands that they have a fair fist fight instead of a rumble. Riff agrees, and Bernardo reluctantly accepts. The next day, Maria and her friends are working at the bridal shop, and Maria is in an unusually happy mood. The other girls wonder what has come over her, and Maria explains ("I Feel Pretty"). Tony arrives. Everyone except Maria and Anita has left. Anita likes the couple, but is clearly afraid of what might happen if Bernardo knows they are seeing each other. She demands that Maria be home soon, then goes home to pretty herself up -- she and Bernardo have arranged to have a little quality time after the Rumble. Maria demands that Tony stop the fight altogether, but before Tony leaves, they pretend that the bridal clothes in the shop are for them, and imagine their engagement and wedding ("One Hand, One Heart"). Next is a musical montage showing everyone's respective feelings. The Jets and Sharks are ready in case the fight becomes a rumble after all, Tony and Maria are looking forward to seeing each other that night, and Anita is getting ready for her date with Bernardo ("Quintet"). The fight, which is between Bernardo and Ice (Tucker Smith), Riff's second in command, is about to begin when Tony appears. When Tony tries to stop the fight, Bernardo attacks him. When Tony does not retaliate, the Sharks mock him. Unable to stand by and watch while his best friend is mocked and humiliated, Riff punches Bernardo, trying to defend Tony, and the two gang leaders draw their switchblades ("The Rumble"). Tony tries to stop Riff, but Ice and Tiger hold him back. In the midst of the fight, Bernardo kills Riff. Before the stunned members of both gangs can react, Tony, enraged at the murder of his best friend, picks up Riff's blade and stabs Bernardo, killing him instantly. This sets off a free-for-all amidst the gang members. As police sirens start blaring in the distance, everybody takes off, leaving behind the bodies of Riff and Bernardo. Blissfully unaware of what has happened, Maria is waiting for Tony on the tenement roof. She is still in a gay mood, and dances around the roof, until another Shark, Chino (Jose De Vega), who loves her, appears, worn out from the fight. Without thinking, Maria demands to know what has happened to Tony, betraying her feelings. Angered, Chino tells Maria that Tony killed her brother, then leaves. Tony arrives as Maria prays that Bernardo is not dead; realizing that it's true, Maria lashes out at Tony, who can only tell her what happened, and asks her to forgive him before he goes to the police. Maria finds that in spite of everything, she still loves Tony and begs him to stay with her. They reaffirm their love ("Somewhere"). Ice has taken over as leader of the Jets. He tells them they will have their revenge on the Sharks, but must do it carefully ("Cool"). Anybodys appears from infiltrating the Sharks' turf and warns the Jets that Chino is now after Tony with a gun. The Jets scatter out to find Tony, including Anybodys, whose deed officially makes her a Jet. Back at the flat, Tony and Maria are sleeping together. Anita arrives. Maria and Tony make whispered arrangements to meet at Doc's and run away together. Anita comes in, sees Tony running away (and being informed of Chino by Anybodys), and chides Maria for loving him ("A Boy Like That"). Maria will not listen, and Anita looks as though she has to restrain herself from hitting her. But Maria's heartfelt love ("I Have A Love") wins over Anita, for she remembers she felt the same way about Bernardo. Anita then tells Maria about Chino searching for Tony with a gun. Lieutenant Schrank arrives and questions Maria about the events leading up to the Rumble. He knows about the argument, and Maria lies that the boy she danced with was another Puerto Rican. She sends Anita to Doc's on the pretense that she is sending her to fetch a medicine for her headache -- she asks Anita to say she has been detained, explaining she would have gone herself otherwise. Anita's real purpose is to tell Tony (who has now taken refuge in the cellar of Doc's drugstore) that Maria is detained from meeting him. But when Anita enters Doc's, the Jets maul her, simulating a gang rape. In black anger, Anita delivers the wrong message -- she says Maria is dead, shot by Chino for loving Tony. When Doc breaks the news to Tony, he leaves the shop in despair. Tony then runs through the streets shouting for Chino and begging him to kill him too. Wandering onto the playground, he sees Maria, at first thinking that it is only in his mind, then realizing it really is her, but as they run towards each other, Chino appears out of nowhere and shoots Tony. As the Jets and Sharks appear, Maria and Tony reaffirm their love ("Somewhere"), but Tony dies in her arms. Maria takes the gun from Chino and accuses everybody in sight of the deaths of Tony, Bernardo, and Riff. The police and gang members arrive. When they see Tony dead, some of the Jets lift him, and the Sharks join them, while Chino is taken away by the police. As in Romeo and Juliet, tragedy has brought the feuding between the two gangs to an end. In Pedrone, a village along the Amazon River, trading post proprietor Rio Galdes puts drunken American Jerry Russell to bed in his hut, then sails off on his boat to trade with the local headhunting Indians. After discovering that some of Rio's boxes of goods are actually filled with rocks, the Indians start to attack Rio, but he saves himself by offering them his watch and ring. Later, Rio is cornered on his boat by Jerry, who begs him to finance an expedition to the Valley of the Winds, where a treasure of Indian gold is reportedly buried. Rio dismisses Jerry's proposal as foolish and chastises him for drinking his life away and ignoring his fiance, who sends him weekly letters from California. In another village, Rio then confronts his old friend Pedro Martines, the merchant who sold him the rock-filled boxes, and the two men fight. Their brawl is interrupted by the appearance of Alice Parker, Jerry's fiance, who has come unexpectedly to see Jerry. Alice pays Rio to transport her to Pedrone, a two-day trip, and along the way, talks excitedly about the plantation she believes Jerry has bought. Rio listens as she describes growing up with Jerry in a small California town, where her family owned the big house on the hill, and how she worried that she might lose Jerry if she waited any longer to marry him. Not wanting to hurt Alice, Rio is evasive when she asks about Jerry, and the next day, after arriving in Pedrone, takes her to Jerry's empty hut. Although Rio learns that Jerry went off with two friends in search of the treasure, he says nothing to Alice about his whereabouts. That night, Alice dines in Rio's trading post bar and meets the lecherous Tony, an American prospector. Later, in Jerry's hut, Alice notices a pair of women's sandals, and the next morning, runs into Maroa, Jerry's native girl friend, who is extremely jealous of her. Tony then offers to show her Jerry's "plantation," which he claims can be seen from his jungle gold mine. As soon as they arrive at the mine, however, Tony sends his partner Vinny back to Pedrone, telling Alice that he has gone for some explosives. Hours later, Vinny still has not returned, and Alice, worried that she has missed Jerry, demands that Tony take her back. Instead Tony grabs Alice and tries to kiss her, and the two are struggling when Rio appears, having deduced Tony's trick. Rio escorts Alice safely back to Pedrone and later that night, after a pelting rainstorm erupts, rescues her from Jerry's leaky hut. In the trading post bar, Alice reveals to Rio her suspicions about Maroa and her fears that Jerry has changed in the Amazon. Again, Rio says nothing and, giving in to his growing attraction, kisses her. Confused, she pulls away and leaves. Moments later, Tony walks into the bar and, having witnessed the kiss, starts to brawl with Rio. The local priest then bursts in to tell Rio that Jerry's medallion was found in the jungle and beseeches him to find out what happened. The next day, as Rio prepares to set off with Sylvester, his faithful employee, and a group of Indians, he is joined by Alice, Tony and Vinny, who insist on accompanying him. During the treacherous journey, many of the Indians become frightened and abandon the expedition, and some drown when a makeshift bridge collapses under them. After Rio saves her from the rough river current, Alice finds the body of one of Jerry's friends, with an Indian arrow in his back. Rio finally resolves to tell Alice the truth about Jerry, but she has already deduced it and admits to Rio that despite her disappointments, she still feels a need to find Jerry. The next morning, the group continues to the arid Valley of the Winds and fights the fierce winds in search of the treasure. They soon come upon some ancient Indian ruins, where Rio uncovers a trove of gold and the slain bodies of Jerry and his other friend. Although Rio begs Tony and Vinny not to take the gold, arguing that the Indians will not attack them as long as they leave it alone, Tony and Vinny, overcome with greed, refuse. Soon Indian warriors start attacking them with spears and arrows. Rio and Tony are able to hold them off with gunfire, but Rio is shot in the arm while retreating into the jungle. During the night, Vinny and Tony sneak back to the ruins, and the following morning, as they head home, Rio, Sylvester and Alice come across their bodies, strung up in the trees. When Alice becomes hysterical with fear, Rio sends Sylvester for help. Rio calms Alice and together they build a rock enclosure as protection against the Indians. As they wait for help, Rio tells Alice about his long-lost love, the daughter of his rich boss, who died suddenly while he was away, foolishly trying to make enough money to prove himself worthy. Rio confesses to Alice that although he thought he would never fall in love again, he has, and the two kiss. The next day, the Indians launch another attack, and Rio and Alice defend themselves with a gun and rifle. In the midst of the battle, Sylvester returns with some armed men, and the Indians are quickly defeated. Later, Rio and Alice prepare to leave Pedrone together and wish Sylvester good luck with the trading post.

Post-civil-war Texas sells lands to wealthy Northerners but some of them are crooks bent on cheating the locals, prompting an investigation headed by the governor's envoy. Following the Civil War, the state of Texas, needing money, sells land to a syndicate of northerners headed by Judd Hastings (Ray Teal). When Hastings demands the land, and the squatters refuses to vacate, the governor sends Mike McGann (Dennis Morgan) to settle the issues. Eventually, McGann gets the ranchers to move on to other areas with their cattle, which Hastings also covets. McGann also falls in love with Hastings' daughter, Marian (Amanda Blake). —Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
