In God`s own country, the supreme leader of the ruling party dies, leaving a huge vacuum, not only in the electoral and leadership sphere of the party but also that of the state. In the inevitable succession squabble and the power struggle that ensues, the thin line that separates good and bad becomes irrecoverably blurred and out of this seemingly endless mayhem, emerge forces that are hitherto unheard of. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, Lucifer delves deep into that unexplored abyss of what appears to be normal to those eyes that refuse to see beyond the seen.

The film is based on Sudha Murthy`s Kannada novel which tells us a story of a man whose father has expired a few days ago.The story unfolds with some unexpected events much like a prophecy which tries to convey the unfulfilled wishes of the man`s father. The story then marks the struggle of the man to fulfill his father`s wishes.

The Indian Education System has been criticised many times for the importance it gives to marks and not an overall education. Shrinivas Rane was born with great talent but had an average IQ. His brilliance in cricket failed to be recognised by his old fashioned father who believed that marks decide the fate of a child. In order to secure a future for Shree, he makes it his mission to make him an academically bright boy. The pressure has a negative effect on Shree and mars the father-son relationship. When frustration drives the father to something he regrets we are left to find out the outcome of it on the relationship and Shree`s cricketing dreams.

Representing thousands of Marathis Dinkar Maruti Bhosale feels he is lost in aamchi Mumbai and voices his concerns about being overlooked and victimized over other communities. His constant complaining takes a new turn when he curses his ancestors for being born a Marathi. And that`s when Shivaji Raja gets his attention and gives him a piece of his mind.
