`Toofan` is a remake of the Prakash Mehra starrer, `Zanjeer`. The film stars Prakash Raj, Priyanka Chopra, Ram Charan, Srihari and Sanjay Dutt. Apart from being remade in Telugu, `Toofan is also releasing in Hindi too as `Zanjeer`. The film marks Priyanka Chopra`s Tollywood debut, PC earlier starred in Zanjeer opposite The original `Zanjeer` which released in 1973 featured Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit and Bindu in the key roles. `Zanjeer` made Amitabh Bachchan popular as the righteous angry young man. Big B reportedly has a guest appearance in `Toofan`. Apoorva Lakhia the film has both directed and produced the film while Anu Malik, Chirantan Bhatt, Meet Brothers and Devi Sri Prasad have composed the film`s music.

The film is a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starer Zanjeer. The honest police officer Vijay Khanna shall rise to fight crime and eliminate criminal in a city ruled by the crime lord Teja. To fight crime his love interest shall support him and Sher Khan will be his aide fighting from forefront.

When David Billa, an international gangster is killed, a police officer who is the only person to see David die, picks Velu, his look-alike to infiltrate the gang. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman also joins the gang and she has her own agenda.

Vijay is the illicit son of a business tycoon named Raj Kumar and his first love, Shanti. Years after being abandoned by his father, he resurfaces to exact revenge on Raj Kumar and his family for the injustice his mother suffered at their hands.

The movie tells the story of two brothers, Vijay and Ravi Verma, who follow different career paths: Vijay is a smuggler and Ravi the policeman who is asked to hunt Vijay down. Vijay Verma (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi Verma (Shashi Kapoor) are the sons of a trade unionist, Anand Verma(Satyen Kappu), who was defeated and disgraced by the management of his firm using his family as a bait. Unable to bear the public disgrace father deserts the family, and the sons are raised by their mother(Nirupa Roy)who brings them to Bombay City, who suffers the trials and tribulations of a poor single mother.

A terminally ill man, Ravi frames himself for a murder so his family receives the reward money. When he is successfully cured, he looks for the real killer to vindicate himself.
