India based Shomu/Som (Sanjay Suri) and his wife Geetu (Divya Dutta) are a happily married couple with two children. Shomu decides to travel to Britain for business purposes, as well as to meet his childhood friend, Ravi Kapoor (Aashish Chaudhary). Ravi believes that Geetu and Som, who got married right out of college, are the perfect married couple. Shomu is in London for a business order and if he gets it, he plans to put another ball bearing factory in India, and upgrade to a new car for Geetu. Shomu gets the order within the first 9 minutes of the meeting, and he was expecting that it would take him 9 days to close the deal. Ravi runs a recording label and launches new musical talent in the industry. But after they become successful, the musicians (especially female ones) take advantage of Ravi's niceness to get released from his contract and sign a fat one with any competitor. Ravi is good friends with Tara (Mandira Bedi). Tara says that Ravi needs a girl who loves him for who he is, and not his status as the MD of a music label. Shomu was smart in college but finds Ravi much ahead in life. Ravi is a MD, drives a Mercedes convertible. Ravi insists that Shomu will stay with him in his house, and not at a hotel. So, Shomu brags about how big his business is and says that his factories make ball bearings for airplanes (when he actually supplies cycle manufacturers). Ravi invites Shomu for auditions for a new female singer. Shomu finds himself getting close to single women and realizes that he is now ready for an extra-marital affair. His friend, Ravi Kapoor, on the contrary believes that Shomu is the luckiest man on earth, as he is in love with his wife, and their marriage is rock steady. But Shomu is kind of annoyed at his shrill, nagging, over-bearing and annoying wife (who is actually very sweet and caring). Geetu is a bit clingy, and Shomu feels suffocated with her. Geetu will call Shomu for trivial issues such as a maid not coming to work for 4 days, and the milkman forgetting to deliver milk. Shomu is introduced to Tara and instantly falls in love. Meanwhile Ravi wants to live Shomu's seemingly perfect life. Shomu can't take it anymore and tells Ravi how miserable he actually is in a marriage. Geetu makes Shomu pick all the bags during shopping trips, sleeps till late while Shomu makes tea and breakfast, Shomu is tormented by his kids who only treat him like a horse, even the dogs (who came in dowry with Geetu) chew up his ties and shoes. Shomu says that real life is different and not like in the movies. Ravi believes that Shomu is only saying these things to keep him away from marital bliss. Ravi is adamant that he wants to get married. Unfortunately, most of the women he knows are engaged, pregnant, married or they simply reject him as they were only nice to him due to his music label. Tara, Ravi and Shomu spend a lot of time together and Shomu is sure that he wants to be with Tara. In the meantime, Ravi meets a waitress named Menaka Choudhary (Samita Bangargi) (she refuses a large tip from Ravi and impresses him). Menaka also moonlights as a singer at a local night club and Ravi decides to launch her as the next star in his music label firm. Ravi asks Shomu to approach Menaka and convince her for the gig. Menaka auditions, but Ravi is super nervous, as he has already blown it with 2 other women in the past and doesn't want to mess up this time. Shomu approaches Menaka and offers her a contract with Ravi's Fuel Music Company. Slowly Ravi and Menaka start to fall in love. Shomu tells Tara that his wife has selective amnesia (Due to a car accident) and has no love life. All this is done by Shomu to gain Tara's sympathy. Tara starts soft dating Shomu. Not trusting her husband, Geetu asks a U.K. based friend to check up on him. The friend (who is a neighbor of Tara and has seen Shomu come to her place several times in the last few days) reports back that Shomu is involved with a woman named Tara. Geetu decides to go to Britain as well and catch Shomu red-handed. When Tara comes to know what Shomu has been doing, she punches Shomu in the nose. Tara explains to Geetu that every male has a roving eye, and she should not try and control Shomu as much. Shomu acknowledges his mistake as well and repents in front of Ravi. Shomu and Geetu meet and make up. Ravi goes out on a date with Menaka, but she doesn't know she is on a date with Ravi. Ravi is trying to say that the music contract was a way for him to get close to Menaka. But she misunderstands Ravi, and thinks he is propositioning her for sex. Ravi gets slapped as Menaka leaves. Ravi is mad at Shomu for misguiding him. He goes to Tara and cries. Ravi proposes to Tara. Shomu goes back to Menaka to explain things to her and tells her that Ravi really loves her. At the wedding, the bride is under cover. Turns out Shomu had dressed Menaka as the bride and not Tara. Ravi is happy.

To pay off their gambling debt, four best friends kidnap an organized crime figure having mistaken him for a wealthy businessman. Bobby, Lucky, Jai and Omi are four young men, each one with his own reason to come to the great city of Mumbai. They meet en route to Mumbai and become best friends. Lucky is a cardsharp with a magnificent winning streak. But when he plays his first high-stakes card game, he is cheated into losing by a shady gangster Aslambhai and ends up owing a large amount of money. Omi hatches a plot to kidnap a rich businessman whom he has seen in a bar. The kidnapping goes as planned, but then they discover that the person they have kidnapped is not a businessman but a powerful and deadly organized crime figure named Musabhai. Musabhai would be more than happy to get rid of the four for their nerve but discovers that by kidnapping him, they unintentionally thwarted a mob hit on his life which was to take place sometime later. In exchange for sparing their life, Musa recruits the four youngsters to help him in striking back at his longtime rival Sultan. —Soumitra Bobby, Lucky, Jai & Omi are four close friends, who live in a small town, but have dreams of making it big, especially in a city like Bombay. So they accumulate enough money to travel to Bombay, and live a comfortable life there. Lucky is the card-sharp and he tries his skill with Aslambhai, and succeeds considerably. When his friends coax him to play some more, he does and not only loses everything - but owes Aslam a whooping seven lakh rupees. Since they do not have the money, Aslam gives them seven days to return the money to him or else.... The friends sit and ponder their fate, when one of them comes upon a an idea to kidnap a rich businessman, demand a hefty ransom, get the money, release the hostage, and live comfortably the rest of their lives. After some discussions, they find out that one such businessman frequents a bar every week, they accordingly chloroform him, and bring him to their hideout and tie him to a chair. When the businessman comes he tells them to check in any police station as to his identity. It is then that they find out that the person they have kidnapped is Mussabhai - a notorious underworld gangster - who is wanted by the police - and who will go to any lengths to free himself from the four, and kill them in the process. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

Pinjar tells the story of Puro, a young woman of Hindu background, living a lovely life circling the time of the partition of 1947 with her family. Puro is betrothed to a wealthy, sweet young man, Ramchand, from a promising family. Puro's bliss is shattered one day as a leisurely trip with Rajjo, her younger sister, turns traumatic as she is kidnapped by a mysterious Muslim man, Rashid. Rashid's family has an ancestral dispute with Puro's family. Puro's family had made Rashid's homeless by taking over their property. Puro's grand-uncle had even kidnapped Rashid's grand-aunt and then released her after defiling her. Rashid's family made him swear that he would kidnap Puro to settle the score. It is clear that Rashid is drawn to Puro and would do anything for her. One night, Puro manages to escape back to her parents. Her parents woefully turn away their daughter, explaining that if Puro were to stay, Rashid's extended Muslim clan would arrive and slaughter everyone. Left with no support, Puro returns to Rashid who is well-aware of Puro's escape; he knew she wouldn't be let in by her parents and had been waiting for her nearby. After a few months, Puro's family marries their son Trilok to Ramchand's younger sister, Lajjo. Rajjo is married off to Ramchand's cousin. Parallel to the celebrations of the new marriage is a celebration of Rashid: Puro is pregnant. Puro is greatly depressed as she has conceived from rape. She miscarries but learns somewhat of Rashid's love for her and his repentance for his evil deed. The British colonialists leave India and the subcontinent reels under the effects of partition. Ramchand's uncle, cousin and Rajjo leave for India and are safe. Ramchand, his parents and Lajjo are caught in the riots. Ramchand hurriedly leaves to India with his younger sister and mother; his father is already missing. Shortly after, Lajjo is kidnapped by thugs. Puro meets Ramchand, who woefully tells her of Lajjo's situation. Puro finds Lajjo and helps her escape with Rashid's assistance. They conduct Lajjo to Lahore where Trilok and Ramchand come to receive her. Trilok has a tearful reunion with Puro and explains to her that she can start life anew as Ramchand is ready to accept her even now. Puro surprises Trilok by refusing and saying she is where she belongs. Ramchand responds with tremendous empathy to Puro, as he sees that she has accepted Rashid. Rashid slowly tries to fade, making it easy for Puro to leave with her folk, but is heartbroken, as he is deeply in love with her. However, Puro seeks Rashid out and the two tearfully bid Ramchand, Trilok, and Lajjo farewell forever.

Three old friends coincidentally take part in the same singing contest. They soon realize that each of them has a personal reason for competing - but only one man can win.

Rewa Singh (Tabu) and Sia Sheth (Sushmita Sen) are inseparable friends. Their bond has grown despite of Rewa's marriage to Dhruv Malhotra (Sanjay Suri). All rejoice when Rewa and Dhruv are expecting a baby. Complications arise, and as a result Rewa loses the baby, and is devastated all the more when told that she can no longer bear children. Sia comes to her rescue by making herself available as a surrogate mother. This uplifts Rewa's spirits, and plans are afoot to make preparations for the forthcoming child.
