After a famous screenwriter is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his show "Manga", he comes to realize that the care that he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.

Saranalayam is an old-age home run by Eradi. He appoints Vivek as the new manager to help him evict the inmates as he wants to sell it. Saranalayam is an old age home where Marykutty teacher, Parvathy Amma and Saraswathi Amma stay. Eradi is the owner of Saranalayam and he is running out of funds to continue running it. Now Balan's community evaluates each and every move he makes; he is deemed a lunatic and his actions are misinterpreted. Eventually his family joins the gang and he is sent to the asylum. The doctor declares him sane. But society doesn't agree. Helpless, Balan plays mad. Ultimately, Balan's mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) poisons him to free him from the world. Apart from the main story line the movie also makes a subtle sketch of the life of people in a matriarchal society. The uncle of the hero ( Ammmavan played by Thilakan) enjoys so much influence in the family affairs that he becomes a catalyst to the hero's slow but steady decline to lunacy.

The story is now told in flashback form, when Vaishali's brother tells Saritha about her marriage to Kumar, lasting for only 47 days. Kumar takes Vaishali to a country manor in a town 30 km away from Paris, France (Férolles). She does not know French or English. Kumar already has a French first wife Lucie living there on the top floor. He deceives both his wives: He tells Vaishali that Lucy is a friend, while he tells Lucy that Vaishali is his sister. Eventually, Vaishali figures out his bigamy and wishes not to stay with him as his second wife/ mistress. She does not know of anyone who knows her language and who can help her escape.
