The movie is based on the life of a Gursikh professor who comes to India with lots of aspirations and feelings for his heritage and culture. However, he comes across a very different environment and culture among Sikh youth in the country. A few other incidents also take place, leaving him in shock. Proud to be a Sikh is about the journey of the Gursikh professor in making Sikh youngsters aware and feel proud of their identity and rich heritage, the difficulties faced during this journey, and how he emerges victorious in the end.

Lalita (Madhuri Dixit) catches the eye of J.B. (Raj Babbar) and he immediately falls in love with her and decides he must marry her. He bribes Lalita's uncle Madanlal (Tej Sapru) into convincing Lalita to marry him. However, Lalita refuses and J.B. kidnaps her and forces her to marry him. One fateful night, Lalita manages to escape and she meets Raj (Rishi Kapoor) whose family consists of an olderly grandfather (Kader Khan) who dotes on him and wants him to get married at any cost. Raj and Lalita fall in love with each other and his grandfather also approves of Lalita. Raj and Lalita are about to get married. However, J.B. grows wise of Lalita's whereabouts and in no time he tracks her down. J.B. reveals to Raj and his grandfather about Lalita's true identity which was just one side of a coin. J.B. forcibly takes Lalita with him and Lalita agrees to stay with him forever to save her chastity and honour. But will she be able to live with an overpowering and cruel man like J.B.? Will Raj ever be able to find out the truth about Lalita's past? Lalita (Madhuri Dixit) is married under duress from her maternal uncle, Madhi (Tej Sapru) to a cruel and possessive man, JB (Raj Babbar). He loves Lalita, but keeps her like a bird in a cage, hovering over and dominating her. Lalita runs away and enters the lives of Raj (Rishi Kapoor), his grandfather (Kader Khan), and Kaki (Dina Pathak). In order to hide her identity, she calls herself Shikha. Eventually, the family grow fond of Shikha, and Raj and she also fall in love. Raj's grandfather plans to marry Shikha off to Raj, when JB shows up and tells the family about the real identity of Shikha, and of her marital status, which Madhi quickly collaborates. The family is shocked to find out that Shikha has been lying to them. JB takes Lalita with him, and Lalita agrees to be his dutiful wife for ever. But will Raj forget his Shikha? Dacoit Sunder Singh kills a brave police officer, Shefali's husband. To avenge his death, Shefali secretly hires two mercenaries. In trying to combat bandit Raja Sundar Singh an honest police officer Deepak is mercilessly gunned down on duty leaving his sister Seema and young son to mourn his death. Seema then decides to take revenge by writing anonymous letters to blackmail two outlaws Yadvinder Singh and Tinku into going to the target village of Sundar Singh. After the deaths of his wife Sheila and child Raja, Sagar takes to drinking as well as singing and dancing at weddings and special occasions. Intoxicated heavily after one such event, he comes across a young male child lying in a garbage can and takes him home. He finds out that the child has been deaf-mute since birth, and he decides to adopt him and name him Raja. Sagar's life is turned upside-down when wealthy businessman Kailash Nath files a police complaint alleging that Raja is his grandson, and Sagar might have abducted and killed Raja's mom. To prove his innocence the boy takes them to his house where there was a happy family. They take a sniffer dog to find out clues. A gang of jewel thieves mistakes a salesman for a CID officer and frames him for murder. He then goes on the run to prove his innocence. Kamal Malhotra lives a struggling life with his mom and is employed as a salesman with retailers for a product called "Godrej", a famous hair dye. His life take a new turn when he is abducted, beaten, blind-fold and taken to a strange place with orders to have him killed but somehow he manages to flee from the killers. And then he begins a man hunt for one of the killers, whose voice he can recognize. His searches gets him framed for the brutal murder of a man called Mr. Narottam, and is arrested by the police but manages to escape and decides to leave the city via train. While on the train Kamal meets a beautiful young woman, Sonia Mehra and after a few misunderstandings both fall in love. But what Kamal does not know is that Sonia have links with a notorious smuggler, captain S.P. Sheela lives a wealthy lifestyle along with her widower dad, Ghanshyamdas. One day she interviews a candidate named Mahesh for the position of an Engineer. Despite of his pretending to be wealthy, he does manage to impress her and both fall in love with each other. Ghanshyamdas approves of this marriage. Then one day Sheela and her dad are notified by the Police that Mahesh has been arrested and is being held in a cell for allegedly possessing a briefcase containing 40 Lakh Rupees. Sheela rushes over to the Police Station to provide for bail - only to find out that Mahesh has managed to escape.
