Nisha is ambitious for her husband, and would like him to be promoted from cashier to manager at the bank. Bharat, however, has other goals. He wants to be Ram, the protagonist in Ramleela. Sattu Tripathi, an extremely bad actor, gets to portray Ram, without opposition, because he is the younger brother of the politician, MLA Manku Tripathi. Both the Tripathi brothers dislike Bharat, for different reasons. Sattu is overshadowed by Bharats superior acting skills on stage, leading to a rivalry between the two. Manku, on the other hand, is miffed with Bharat, because the extra room in the latters house is now used as a re-election campaign room by Mohanlal, Mankus adversary. And then one day, Bharats table-fan gets stolen. The police constable, Parshuram Khushwaah tells Bharat that the local paanwala, Bacchu Gulkand, can testify in court that it was none other than Chunnu Farishta, burglar par excellence, who is responsible for the crime.

He marries Richa, leaves her behind, and returns back to Sally. Rajbir "Radhe" Mohan (Salman Khan) is a jobless rowdy, surrounded by a rough circle including Kanak (Darshan Kumar), Aslam (Sarfaraz Khan) and Chander (Gopal Dutt). He lives with his brother Ajay (Sachin Khedekar), his sister-in-law (Savita Prabhune), and their child. Radhe's brother is a decent, family man. Radhe used to study at the local City college, but still controls the entire student politics by ensuring that his candidates win in the student body elections. Radhe is a violent man, but often performs apparently good deeds, such as beating up sexual harassers. Radhe is liked by the studious types in college as he keeps the criminal elements out of student politics and provides a safe environment within college premises. Ajay does not like how Radhe resorts to violence on behalf of other students at the college. Ajay wants Radhe to find a job and move on with his life. Nirjara is a new student at the college who is attending classes from out of town. She comes to college daily by train. She has a single friend Indu (Indu Verma). Radhe meets Nirjara during her ragging session, which he conducts for all newcomers. Nirjara likes peacock feathers. Radhe also supports a mentally unstable beggar (Radhika Chaudhary). A local rival goon insults the beggar by dropping her skirt and embarrassing her publicly. Radhe takes offense at this and beats the rival goon mercilessly. Nirjara sees Radhe's violent side during this fight and is scared. Radhe falls in love with Nirjara Bhardwaj (Bhumika Chawla), a BA student at his former college and the daughter of a poor temple priest (Saurabh Dubey). Radhe comes across Nirjara across many different social situations, and even at her father's temple. Radhe likes her innocent demeanor & helps her a few times (he stops the catcalls during Nirjara's poem recitation at college annual fest, gets her an exam admit card when she loses it), and she seems to like him. One day, Radhe proposes to her and jokingly remarks that he would beat up her father if he doesn't agree to their marriage. Nirjara is too shocked to say much (and doesn't hear pretty much anything else that Radhe says to her including the actual proposal for marriage) and utters "Yes" when Radhe asks her if she was listening to him. Radhe interprets this as her acceptance of the proposal. Later, he and his friends intimidate Nirjara's fiance Rameshwar (Ravi Kishan) who is a junior priest at the temple and a very docile person. Rameshwar was dropping Nirjara to college on his moped when he was spotted by Radhe. Radhe tells Rameshwar that he is going to marry Nirjara and warns him to stay away from her. The next day, Radhe brings Nirjara a gift, but she tells him that she does not love him and calls him a goon and yells at him publicly. A heartbroken Radhe subsequently tries to talk to her, but she refuses to engage in a conversation. Nirjara has a sister Mamta (Indira Krishnan), whose husband Atmaram (Dinesh Kaushik) is demanding Rs 2 Lakhs from her & her dad for her to be with her son Rahul. Since Mamta or her father don't have that kind of money, Mamata is thrown out of the house and is living with Nirjara and her father. Atmaram used to ask for Rs 20-30K, but now his demands have become more and more outrageous. Mamta tries for a bank loan but has no physical assets for a guarantee. Radhe's friends suggest that he give up rowdyism and violence to impress Nirjara. Radhe tries to control his violence whenever he is in front of Nirjara. Aslam admonishes Radhe when he fails to defend his own friend Chander in front of a rival goon, because Nirjara was there. This leads to a fight between Aslam and Radhe and cause a friction in their friendship. Later, Radhe apologizes to Aslam and Chander. One day, Radhe roughs up a brothel owner who has opened up a brothel in the middle of a Brahmin society and is polluting the social atmosphere. Nirjara's elder sister Mamta, who is in need of money, is nearly tricked into prostitution, when she visits the brothel to meet a man who promises her a loan. Radhe, who does not know that she is Nirjara's sister, visits the same brothel to find a brothel customer who was harassing random women outside the brothel. He saves Mamta from being arrested during a police raid. She tells him that her husband Aatmaram has evicted her and is demanding money to give her the custody of their son. The next day, Radhe beats up Aatmaram, forcing him to take her back and to stop harassing her. Rameshwar sees this and tells Nirjara that Radhe is a good, selfless man, who truly loves her. Unaware of this conversation, Radhe abducts Nirjara so that she would listen to him express his feelings for her. Nirjara initially feels intimidated, but ultimately falls in love with him. Subsequently, the brothel owner (Mahendra Verma) and his goons attack Radhe to take revenge on him for trying to shut down their business. Radhe suffers from brain damage during the attack and loses his mental balance. His family admits him to a religious institution for mental patients, as Nirjara and his friends pray for him. At one point, Radhe's mental state returns to normal, but the wardens do not understand this and beat him up. Nirjara visits the institution and sees him in a pitiful condition while he is sleeping. Convinced that Radhe is not going to get well, Radhe's brother asks Nirjara to forget him and marry Rameshwar. On the day of Nirjara's wedding with Rameshwar, Radhe escapes from the institution, and arrives at her home, only to find that she has committed suicide. Radhe then allows himself to be taken back to the institution despite his family and friends trying to persuade him otherwise. The epilogue shows Radhe, now old and still in the institution, tying peacock feathers in Nirjara's memory.

Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai focuses on Karan (Tusshar Kapoor), who is a teenager, though fails in studies, performs excellent music with his friends. His father, Krishna (Dalip Tahil) believes he should give up music and focus on his studies. Sushma (Himani Shivpuri) is Karan's mother. Balram Singh (Amrish Puri) is Krishna's elder brother, and they live in a joint family. Karan's college friends are Chinku (Vrajesh Hirjee), Dabbu (Hemant Pandey) and Hrithik (Gopal Datt). Priya (Rinke Khanna) is Karan's sister, and is studying to become a doctor. Karan's elder brother Pankaj is a computer engineer Chiku tries to commit suicide when the girl he loves is being forcefully married to someone else by her father. Karan gets Pinky to run away from her house and brings her to the temple to marry Chiku. Pinky's father arrives at the temple and brings Chiku with him. He had beaten Chiku so much, that he refuses to marry Pinky. Karan fights off Pinky's father and all of his goons. The father is a MLA and calls the police. Karan is arrested and faces wrath from Krishna. That night, Karan is depressed. Wandering on the streets, he notices young Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) playing with little children. Before he can approach her, she leaves. After that, he starts to see her everywhere (on the streets, at the temple and so on) (but every-time Pooja leaves before Karan can approach her or talk to her), and completely falls in love with her. He looks day and night, but there is no sign of Pooja. Pooja is a philanthropist and the niece of Rana Virendra Pratap Singh (Alok Nath). Priya derides Karan and says that this is merely attraction and not love. One day Pooja notices Karan save a dosing girl from falling off her father's scooter.. Pooja likes all people who do good and wants to take his autograph. But before she can reach out to Karan, he has already left. Priya is being harassed by some goons led by gang leader (Yashpal Sharma). Karan finds out and picks up a huge fight with them. The gang-leader is beaten up and retreats as Karan's friends arrive with reinforcements. To get Karan to focus on his studies, he is sent to Shimla to stay his uncle, where their car breaks down. He hitches a ride from a stranger, and is shocked to find out that the driver is his dream girl, Pooja (she was also sent to Shimla by her father). During the drive, a truck hits the car which falls into a valley. Karan and Pooja hang by the edge of the cliff but Karan saves Pooja before his hands slip and he falls down. After gaining consciousness, Pooja realizes it was her fault that Karan died and searches for his body. Meanwhile, Karan is found by a lumberjack in the forest and is taken to a hospital. He is reunited with his family, and starts his rehabilitation at home. Pooja finds Karan first (by working with her uncle Rana Virendra Pratap) and they start a friendship. Pooja is relieved that Karan has lived. Balram advises Karan to go fast and announce his love to Pooja. But Priya advises that Pooja is a mature woman and says that Karan should get to know her first.. Karan starts spending more time with Pooja. Pooja comes over to Karan's house for Teej.. Pooja and Priya become close friends. Balram treats her like family. Karan's friends also meet Pooja and sing his praises in front of her. Karan finds that Krishna has fixed Priya marriage with an avg looking doctor who studies with her. He knows Priya's ambitions of marrying a good looking, handsome man. He objects to his family. But Balram tells Karan that Priya has selected the guy. Priya confirms the news and says that she realized that Rajesh really loves her and is devoted to her. His love is pure and he will keep her happy, so she is OK to sacrifice for looks and other things. When it feels like their friendship is evolving into something more, he finds out that Rana Sahab has planned an engagement to a US friend of Pooja. But later Pooja tells Karan that her friend is engaged to some other girl and not Pooja. Karan is very relieved. He spends even more time with Pooja as she participates in the family festivities around Priya's wedding. For Pooja's birthday, Karan writes her a letter with his blood, but she finds it disgusting. At the same time she gives him a trumpet as a gift.. Karan's friends advise him that the time has come to express his love to Pooja. The gangster returns just as Karan was heading to Pooja and destroys the trumpet. Karan is enraged and beats up the gangster badly and forces him to retreat. Karan reaches Pooja and finds that Pooja is also bound for America for further studies (her application to Harvard was accepted). Devastated, he finally confesses that he loves her (after being yelled at by Priya (just before her departure from the wedding ceremony) to tell the truth to Pooja, as Karan didn't want Pooja to stay back because of him). Actually Karan never said a word and warned his entire family from saying anything to Pooja. But Pooja figures out that Karan loves her just before she is about to leave for her flight at the airport. Pooja cannot deny her feelings, also confesses her love and they both promise to marry each other when she gets back.

Inspired by the Telugu film, "Pelli Chuskundam," the plot follows the life of a rape victim (Aishwarya Rai). Now, a disgrace to her family, she is turned away from her house after the sexual assault. But she finds shelter in the character played by Anil Kapoor. —Gonz30 Naive yet bold and daring, Preeti Virat, comes forward as a witness to heinous assault carried by Bhavani Choudhry and his men on a person who owes them money. Bhavani is arrested and held for trial. This angers the Choudhry family. The victim is threatened with dire consequences, and he withdraws the complaint, and as a result Bhavani is released and all charges are dropped. Preeti is then raped by one of the Choudhry men, and subsequently her very own family disowns her. She finds shelter with another do-gooder, Avinash, who even takes her to his apartment. But the story does not end here, for the neighborhood is soon in an uproar over her, and want her to leave. The only solution is that Preeti marry Avinash, she agrees to do so, and then finds out that there is two children who called Avinash "daddy", and she does not know if there is another woman or even a wife involved. Vijay has recently returned to India, after studying in USA. Salim (Rakesh Bedi) is the driver and Badri (Sadhu Mehar) is the house servant. German (Satish Kaushik) is Vijay's childhood friend and partner. Vishwanath runs a factory that manufactures underground cables. The pampered Vijay has completed his education and now indulges in life's temptations to the extreme. Vijay tells Vishwanath that he does not want to join the family business and enter the same rat race that Vishwanath endured his entire life. Vijay says that he wants to enjoy life and his wealth. Vishwanath would like his son to get married and become responsible. Khairati Lal is manager in Vishwanath's factory who wants to marry his niece Anita (Mink Singh) to Vijay. Vishwanath starts searching for suitable brides for Vijay, but Vijay says that he wants a bride that he is compatible with and that could even take years to find. Vishwanath is livid at Vijay's insolence and starts eating sugar, which is expressly prohibited to him due to his diabetic condition. Vishwanath says that he sacrificed his entire life for Vijay and now Vijay wont even let him play with grandchildren, so he has no reason to live. Vijay agrees to marriage but puts a condition. Vijay wants the marriage to be on a contract basis for a year and, if he does not fall in love with his wife in that duration, the marriage will be annulled. Badri counsels Vishwanath to find a good girl and he is confident that with time, Vijay will fall in love and the condition of divorce will never be activated. Megha (Kajol) is Vishwanath's personal assistant in his office. She is a hardworking girl struggling to support her family. Vishwanath asks Megha to quit her job and marry his son, but she refuses when she hears Vijay's strange condition. Yashwant is the local loafer who wants to marry Megha, to take advantage of her financial misery. Megha's family is in dire financial straits and, so she has to reconsider Vishwanath's offer. In return for marrying Vijay, she asks for financial support for her family, which Vishwanath readily provides. Megha's family includes younger sister Maya (Gracy Singh), brother Sudhakar (Raju Shrestha), elder sister Manju (Sudha Chandran) and mother (Smita Jaykar). Manju is married to her husband (Adi Irani) but was returned home as she has a hole in her heart and needs expensive surgery. Vijay and Megha get married. After marriage, they live together and develop a friendly relationship. Megha works very hard, wholeheartedly cooperating, even kneeling on the steps of a temple to take care of Vijay when he is badly injured in an accident. Yet, at the end of the year, Vijay decides to call off the marriage, as agreed upon. Megha returns home very sad. After the separation, Vijay seems to be enjoying himself; but slowly and eventually, he starts to feel a longing for the presence of his devoted wife. Complications arise when Megha finds out that she is pregnant with Vijay's child. People in her neighborhood start to question her stay at her mother's house and the identity of the child's father. In order to support herself, Megha gets a job in a new company. To her surprise, when the company's managing director arrives, he turns out to be Vijay. Vijay buys the company by paying a huge amount to woo Megha. Vijay tries to convince Megha that he is a changed person now and wants her back. But, despite repeated convictions, Megha remains unconvinced as her faith in him is shattered. Vijay continues to try to convince her. But Megha does not miss any opportunity to show him that she does not care for him at all. Later, Megha and her family organize a 'Godh-Bharai' ceremony for the welfare of their upcoming child. Vishwanath and Vijay also attend the ceremony and give their gifts. Megha reveals Vijay to be her husband and tells all the guests about the marriage contract, insulting him. Vijay feels very bad. He explains that in the situation he is in, he can marry anyone and live happily. But he has made a mistake by entering into the marriage contract, he accepts this from his heart and even today he truly loves only Megha. This makes the situation clear to everyone. Vijay and his father come out after all the guests. Near the completion of her pregnancy, Megha learns that Khairati Lal (Shakti Kapoor) and Yashwant Kumar (Parmeet Sethi), who have been creating trouble for Vijay's company and had once attempted to kill Vijay, have escaped from jail. They are in search of Vijay, who had fired them from his father's company for fraud and forgery. Megha gets worried and tries to reach Vijay as soon as possible. On the way, she learns that this was a whole plan hatched by Vijay's friends to lure her towards her husband. In anger, Megha goes to insult Vijay. Meanwhile, Khairati Lal and Yashwant Kumar, who had come hiding behind Vijay in the office, actually attack Vijay suddenly and severely injure him by stabbing him in the stomach with a glass. But Megha thinks that Vijay is pretending to be injured. Megha turns around to leave after abusing Vijay, but Vijay turns towards her and screams in pain while pulling out a glass shard. Megha turns around and sees that his stomach is bleeding, and he is badly injured. Then she is convinced that Khairati and Yashwant have really attacked them. Megha runs towards him and slips and starts screaming in pain due to the fall as she is pregnant. Vijay ties a shirt on his stomach and gathers all his strength and takes Megha to the hospital. Their families also reach there. On one hand Vijay is being treated and on the other hand Megha gives birth. Megha gives birth to a healthy baby and wants to see Vijay first. Her bed is taken near Vijay's bed. Both of them meet happily. Vijay's father Vishwanath feels extremely happy by laying his grandson between them and shaking hands with all three as per his habit.

Sonu gets to the wrong party in Goa and antagonizes the Verma family, consisting of Gulzarilal (Anupam Kher), his unmarried sister, Santho (Aruna Irani), and eligible daughters, Pooja (Pooja Batra) and Ritu (Karisma Kapoor). Sonu challenges the family that he is going to marry Pooja by any means possible, and calls upon Monu to act as his Paternal uncle, which he does so, and ends up falling for Ritu. Unknown to him, Santho has also developed a crush on him. Rohan Khanna (Akshaye Khanna) is a jobless graduate living with his grandfather (Alok Nath) and his mother (Moushumi Chatterjee). Rohan has been tirelessly looking for a decent job without success. One day, Rohan's neighbor, Ranjit arrives to bring his parents to America. Ranjit lives in America, owns a motel, a home, a car, and is married to an American woman. He wishes to keep his parents in America to live in peace. After listening to Rohan's desire for a job, he suggests that Rohan should move to America. Ranjit promises Rohan success and Rohan is immediately persuaded. He tells his mother and grandfather of his wish and they are abruptly reminded of Rohan's late father, Balraj Khanna (Rajesh Khanna) who left his wife and son for America after a bitter argument with his father. In a bus accident, Balraj is killed leaving Rohan orphaned and his mother widowed. To avoid the same fate of his son, Rohan's grandfather prepares Rohan's visa for America. Rohan arrives in America and immediately meets Sardar Khan (Kader Khan), a Pakistani man who makes a living by driving a taxi. Rohan's good manners and friendly personality wins Sardar over as he drives Rohan to Ranjit's hotel. Rohan does not have any spare cash to pay Sardar so he asks Sardar to stay while he asks Ranjit for the taxi fare. He is shocked when Ranjit does not give him money or a place to stay saying that Rohan has to be able to help himself. Sardar overhears the two arguing. Rohan looks and sees that Ranjit's father and mother are working at the hotel and facing much verbal abuse from Ranjit's wife. This is not the peace that Ranjit had promised his parents. Sardar offers Rohan a place to stay much to the dismay of his roommate, Iqbal Singh (Jaspal Bhatti), a Punjabi man from India. Rohan is allowed to stay with Iqbal and Sardar with the persuasion of Chaurasia (Satish Kaushik. Chaurasia runs an Indian restaurant and betel leaf shop. Rohan is given a job as a taxi driver. One day, while making routes near the airport, he picks up a young Indian woman named Pooja (Aishwarya Rai). Pooja has just arrived in America to live with her older brother and his wife. Much to the shock of Pooja, her brother only brought her here because his boss had seen a picture of Pooja and had fallen in love with her. Pooja's brother insists that Pooja marry his boss and in anger, she leaves his home without money and no where to go. Rohan sees Pooja crying and he offers her a place to stay with Iqbal and Sardar. Iqbal and Sardar discover that Pooja and Rohan have brought happiness into their house and the give them not only a place in their home, but a place in their hearts. Iqbal, Sardar, and Chaurasia pitch in to provide jobs for both newcomers. They are also acquainted with PC Jack Patel (Paresh Rawal) who is a police inspector on weekdays and a Hindu priest on weekends. He observes both jobs faithfully by preserving American law and Hindu values. Both Pooja and Rohan begin to work at a Dunkin' Donuts but after a tussle with some customers who tried to harass Pooja, both are fired and without jobs. This protective relationship between Rohan and Pooja causes Pooja to fall in love with him deeply much to the happiness of Iqbal and Sardar. Rohan finds a job as a gas station employee and Pooja remains unemployed. One day at Chaurasia's restaurant, Rohan becomes frustrated with his lack of progress and Chaurasia advises Rohan to get a Green Card by marrying an NRI girl. Rohan and Pooja go to an Indian dance to search for an NRI girl much to Pooja's disapproval. There, Rohan meets the seductive Loveleen (Suman Ranganathan) and he falls in love with her immediately. Pooja, Iqbal, and Sardar do everything to keep Loveleen away from Rohan until Rohan becomes aggravated and tells the three to stay away from him and Loveleen. Iqbal tells Pooja to follow Rohan and Loveleen to Seaside Heights and declare her love for him. She is rejected by Rohan and he later tells her to stay away from him. Iqbal and Sardar accuse him of being consumed by money. Rohan tells them that they are jealous of his progress. Iqbal tells Rohan that one day he will regret his decision one day and come back to Pooja. Rohan leaves the house for Loveleen in rage. In order to forget Rohan, Pooja finds a job as a caretaker for a rich Indian man who is ill. We discover that this man is Balraj Khanna, Rohan's estranged father who has not died. Balraj has been living in New York with his son, Karan. Karan's mother left Balraj when Karan was very young. Karan has grown to be a spoiled and arrogant young man who is also friends with Loveleen. He consistently asks his father for money to spend for his enjoyment. He even took a loan from Marko, a dangerous drug dealer and Karan has not yet paid him back. In order to pay back his debts, he is assigned to transport drugs around the country. Balraj begins to take a liking to Pooja and considers her as a daughter. He wants to keep her in his home so he asks her to consider marrying Karan. Karan and Pooja are both against the idea. Meanwhile, Rohan is beginning to realize that Loveleen's American culture deeply goes against his and he begins to regret his decision. He becomes fed up with her ways and realizes he is really in love with Pooja. He leaves Loveleen with no where to go because of his poor decisions. Jack Patel forces Iqbal, Sardar, and Rohan to reconcile and they forgive Rohan for his mistakes. Rohan sets out to ask Pooja for forgiveness. She is in Springfield with Balraj at the moment and Rohan arrives there to meet her. After a confrontation between Rohan and Pooja, Rohan tells her that they will go back home to India together, hence Aa Ab Laut Chalen (Come, Let's Go Back). Pooja forgives Rohan and Rohan gives her a locket with a picture of his mother inside saying that it is a promise that he will marry her. Pooja tells Balraj that she has fallen in love with a man named Rohan and he encourages her love for him. Meanwhile, Karan becomes desperate for the money so he decides to marry Pooja. After violently urging her to marry him, her locket falls on the ground and Balraj picks it up. When handing it to her, he sees Rohan's mother, and his wife. He realizes that Rohan is his son but does not tell Pooja. After hearing that he is unemployed, he tells Pooja that he will give Rohan a job in his company. But he fears that his son will not accept him as a father though because he left him and his mother back in India. Rohan accepts the job and is deeply grateful to Balraj. He wishes for a chance to meet him. Balraj continues his generosity from afar by giving Rohan a $5000 bonus. Rohan returns to Ranjit's motel and frees Ranjit's parents by paying for their tickets to return to India. Ranjit is also arrested by Jack Patel for keeping the passports of his parents. Rohan spends the rest of his money by buying gifts for all his friends including Iqbal, Sardar, and Chaurasia. His mother is also happy to know that Rohan has found the love of his life and a decent job. One day, Rohan is invited to a party where that Balraj will attend. When Rohan meets Balraj, he is stunned to realize that Balraj is his father and very much alive. He reacts in anger and tells him that he has left his mother a widow and his son an orphan. Balraj openly confesses to everyone that he has left his wife and son in India and does not deserve everyone's respect. Balraj reveals that after he arrived in America, he went back to India to find his family but he could not. Hence, he married another woman. Rohan sill cannot bring himself to forgive his father because he has caused his mother's suffering. Balraj insists to speak to his wife to ask for forgiveness. Rohan calls his mother to tell her that her husband is still alive. She immediately forgives Balraj and asks them to come back to India. Karan emerges saying that if Balraj leaves for India, he has to leave his fortunes to Karan in America. Balraj refuses and tries to slap Karan but Karan stops him. Karan tries to slap Balraj but Rohan stops him. Rohan and Balraj embrace and Balraj tells Karan he will give all his property to him but he will not be his father. Balraj, Rohan, and Pooja all leave for India. They say their goodbyes to Iqbal and Sardar as well. Suddenly, PC Jack Patel arrives with Karan. Turns out that Karan has turned in important information about Marko to the officials. Karan tells Balraj that he does not want the wealth but he wants to return to India with the rest of his family. Rohan and Balraj accept Karan and the family leaves for India. We later see Rohan's mother welcoming Balraj, Rohan, Pooja, and Karan in their home and they finally live happily together.

Arjun Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) and Pyare Mohan (Govinda) are police inspectors. They share a friendly bond. They go undercover and organize prison breaks to rescue criminals like Kalim Dhile (Razzak Khan) to get their crime masters like Sundar Kala (Avtar Gill). Arjun's sister, Seema (Raveena Tandon), is in love with Pyare. Arjun has no female companion and some petty comments are made about his age. Zorawar (Paresh Rawal) runs a business smuggling arms and diamonds, under a cover of being a statue maker. Once, in a hotel, he discovers that he is being spied upon and along with the cop spying on him, he wants to gets rid of Madhu (Divya Dutta), an eyewitness but she escapes. Madhu heads straight to the police station and gives her statement to Arjun and Pyare. Pyare drops her home. That night Zorawar attacks Madhu inside her home. Madhu's friend, Neha (Ramya Krishnan), witnesses Madhu's murder. Scared, and with the gangsters after her, she calls the police station and asks for Pyare, but since he is not there, Arjun is asked to go to her, and masquerade as Pyare, who had been described as a very good person to Neha by her dead friend. In a considerable amount of confusion, he takes her to Pyare's house and even gets to the extent of asking Pyare to masquerade as Arjun. For a few days Arjun decides to stay at Pyare's apartment, as Pyare. While Pyare is asked to stay at Arjun's house to protect his family. Arjun starts to fall in love with Neha. Zorawar and his men attack Neha, but Arjun and Pyare team up to rescue her, but Zorawar manages to escape. Neha runs into Seema at a mall and it emerges that they both love Pyare. They complain to the police commissioner and it emerges that Arjun was being Pyare to Neha to gain her trust. Two petty thieves, Bade Miyan (Amitabh Bachchan) and Chote Miyan (Govinda), who are look-alike of Arjun and Pyare respectively, arrive in town. Confusion ensue when every crime the crooks commit are blamed on Arjun and Pyare. Things goes further downhill when Shyamlal (Anupam Kher), the police commissioner, is also thrashed by the doubles (Shyamlal had found Bade and Chote in a red light area and was stopping them as he thought they were Arjun and Pyare. Bade and Chote thrashed him badly). Arjun and Pyare are blamed for messing up security operation of Madhuri Dixit (herself). Arjun and Pyare are asked to meet Madhuri to register an underworld complaint, but Bade and Chote meet her accidentally and are taken for Arjun/Pyare. Both are kicked when they both proposition Madhuri for marriage. Even Seema and Neha mistake Bade and Chote for Arjun and Pyare. Neha finds Bade at the jewelers (where he has just been handed the necklace that Arjun ordered for Seema's Bday) and brings him home. Chote follows him home. Arjun reaches the Jewellers later and finds the necklace is missing. Later Bade and Chote realize that they are copy cats of 2 police officers. They are deputed by commissioner to protect the other half of the Kohinoor diamond which is on display in India in a museum. When Chote and Bade find out, they pose as police to inspect the museums security under office Hamak Jaykar (Asrani). Hamak shows Chote and Bade all security measures and ways to defeat it. Arjun and Pyare are directly blamed for the theft. Zorawar wanted to smuggle this diamond and hence is pissed when the news of theft is published. Arjun and Pyare further land in trouble when Zorawar kidnaps Seema and asks for the diamond and Neha in return. Zorawar confronts Bade and Chote for the return of the diamond and parade Seema in front of them. Bade and Chote want to buy time and agree to bring Neha to him and leave the diamond with Zorawar to keep Seema safe. Arjun and Pyare, who have been arrested, are saved by the arrival of Bade and Chote, and promise to get Neha and Seema back. Bade and Chote arrive at Zorawar's hideout and stall them while Arjun and Pyare come with police force and everyone at the hideout is arrested. The crooks leave after apologizing to Neha and Seema for the confusion. However, some of Zorawar's men hijack the police van which is taking Zorawar and his associates to jail. They are stopped on the way by Bade and Chote, asking for a lift. The latter realizes who really are in the van and proceed to badly thrash Zorawar and his men and return him to jail. Arjun and Pyare are criticized for their mistake regarding the hijacking of the van and the two crooks are given a job in the police force by the commissioner himself. The film ends with Arjun and Pyare ending up being demoted to the post of traffic police officers and Bade and Chote taking their place as police inspectors.

Happy go-lucky Ajay Prasad lives with his wife, Sunita and a small son, Raju, in Jaipur, India. The family receives an invitation to attend a wedding in Mumbai; as Sunita & Raju are unable to attend, Ajay agrees to go. In Mumbai Ajay is introduced to Ravindranath Tagore, who arranges his stay in a high-end flat with an air-conditioner. Ajay gets acquainted with his next door neighbor, an actress named Chandni, who usually acts in commercials and short advertisements. He find out that Chandni is a single woman and after some time began flirting with her. Shyamsunder (Govinda) is a naive villager who has a great interest in music. He travels to the city, making friends with Muthuswami (Satish Kaushik), a South Indian tabla player. They try again and again to meet The president of the TIPS cassette company, Khurana (Kader Khan). Ram Pyare (Satish Shah) is Company manager. Khurana wont give them time. They also meet Divya (Tabu), who is Khurana's daughter. They try to trap her by either playing dead in front of her car, or stealing her purse.. But Divya is strong and thwarts their silly plans. Divya admonishes the duo for their silly tricks, and Shyam begs her for a chance to participate in the TIPS music competition. Divya asks Shyam to defeat her champion, but she meant a boxing champ. Shyam takes a hit, before retaliating and defeating Divya's champ in the boxing match. Now Shyam insults Divya by saying that she has made fun of the art of 2 impoverished artists and that does not suit her stature. Divya brings Shyam and Muthu to the TIPS music competition where singer (Shakti Kapoor) is the reigning champ. Shyam defeats the reigning champ and Khurana is impressed with his musical abilities. Shyam is promoted to a high position in TIPs company. Ram Pyare is worried as he was working with Nana (Mukesh Rishi) to sell fake TIPS cassettes in the market, without paying any royalties. As Shyam goes back to repay his debts in the village (with the TIPS prize money), he receives tragic news of the death of his wife Pooja (Karisma Kapoor), who has died in a flood. Pooja had arrived in the village with her father Madhav (Arun Bakshi), who is a music teacher. Thakur's son (Arjun) had his evil eye on Pooja.. Shyam falls in love with Pooja and to get close to her, he joins her father as his music student. Thats how Shyam learned how to sing and play instruments. He starts flirting with Pooja. But one day Pooja overhears Shyam bragging to his friends how he plans to get close to her and kissing her. Pooja is hurt. she slaps Shyam and makes him realize that music is a pure art, which he used for impure purposes. Shyam realizes his mistake and gives himself totally to the study of music. Eventually Pooja is impressed and reciprocates his love. They get married (after Shyam saves Pooja from Thakur's son who was trying to rape her) before shyam leaves for the city to make a career in music. Shyam also wants to repay Thakur's (Bharat Kapoor) debt due to which Thakur was able to slap his mother (Anjana Mumtaz). Shyam returns to the village and repays Thakur's debt and then slaps the Thakur twice to make things equal. His friends tells Shyam that Pooja and Madhav both died in a flood. Shyam is distraught and returns to the city. He then marries Khurana's daughter Divya (Tabu). Divya was in love with Shyam, but Shyam is still mourning. when Divya threatens to commit suicide, Shyam agrees to marry her. shyam then finds that Ram Pyare is looting the company with Nana (Maternal Grand father) and his fake cassettes business. He confronts them both, defeats Nana and puts them in jail. When Khurana has a heart attack, Shyamsunder finds his "presumed dead" wife Pooja in the hospital. Shyam cannot tell the 2 wives about each other as Divya is super temperamental and Pooja is very fragile. He then has to fool his two wives, even if it includes leading a double life to make sure Pooja and Divya don't discover he has married both of them. Shyam sends Divya to US to get Khurana operated, and uses the time to settle down with Pooja. Divya returns. Khurana asks Shyam to take Divya on their honeymoon. Shyam books tickets for Bangalore and then returns alone to take Pooja with him. He runs into Ram Pyare in Bangalore (who was exiled from Bombay), who finds Shyam with Pooja. Ram Pyare calls Khurana who refuses to believe that Shyam is cheating on Divya. Shyam stays in the same hotel, sharing one room with Divya and other with Pooja. One day Divya sees Shyam with Pooja in the temple. Muthu tries to convince her that this is a duplicate, and real Shyam is in office. Divya rushes to the office, while Muthu manages to warn Shyam who gets to the office before Divya gets there. Divya is convinced that there is a duplicate of Shyam and convinces Khurana when he finds him buying Indian traditional wear for women for Pooja. Pooja and Divya becomes friends. They both suspect that they share the same man as husband. Shyam's mom arrives from village. The 2 ladies discuss that if Shyam is common, then mom will arrive only in one house and cancel the other. Muthu hears this and informs Shyam, who hires a fake mom (Himani Shivpuri) in front of Divya, as Pooja had met Shyam's real mom. Then Divya invites Pooja and her husband for lunch and wants Shyam to be present. Shyam manages the situation by entering the house as Pooja's husband. He then takes offense at some event, goes out and changes clothes to re-enter as Divya's husband. Meanwhile Nana and Ram Pyare are seeing everything. Ram Pyare again approaches Khurana and tells him that Shyam is married to 2 women. Thakur's son arrives and joins Nana and Ram Pyare in exposing Shyam. They approach the photographer who took 2 photos of Shyam in different poses and merged them to make it look it 2 different men in the same photo. The photographer tells the truth, when beaten and is murdered by Nana. Ram Pyare then tells Khurana that Sunder has murdered his duplicate Shyam (Khurana's son-in-law) and his body (the mutilated body of the photographer) was found on railway tracks. Sunder is arrested. Sunder manages to escapes and asks Muthu to bring both Pooja and Divya to a secluded temple Shyam meets both and admits the truth and explains the circumstances in which this happened. Nana and Thakur's son attack Shyam. Shyam manages to defeat them with some help from Pooja and Divya. They both accept Shyam as their common husband.

Jaya's agenda is to befriend Saraswati and thus continue to be near her lover, and she meets this goal with considerable success. To save his skin, Jugran kills his twin brother Manmohan (Jugran had hid at Manmohan's house, but Manmohan tried to inform the police) and takes his identity. The world is led to believe that Jugran is still on the run. Jugran kills Mr. Verma and Dr. Ashok (the guy who helped hide the diamonds in the plaster of his hand to help smuggle them across customs), destroying both their families in process. While Verma's orphaned sons Ramesh (Anil Kapoor) and Ravi (Jackie Shroff) are separated from each other, Dr. Ashok's daughter Seema (Sridevi) is left with her distraught mother, who has lost her sanity. Before dying Mr. Verma identified his killer as Jugran to the police. Uncle D'Souza (Akash Khurana) of Seema, had seen the killer entering Dr Ashok's office just before he entered his clinic and hence could identify the killer in a line-up. Ravi was brought up by his mother, while Ramesh found his way to an orphanage. Seema/Simmi is at the same orphanage. Seema and Ramesh become good friends, but Seema is adopted while she is a child and is separated from Ramesh. Ramesh loves Simmi and runs from the orphanage. He is found by Girdharilal on the streets, and is given a new name, Romeo. Romeo is now working for Seth Girdharilal (Paresh Rawal), who mentors many thieves and thugs like him. Many years later, Jugran has become a big name in the criminal underworld. He lives a double life, acting also as his twin brother Manmohan, who is highly respected in society. Ravi Verma, meanwhile, has become an Inspector and Ramesh has become a crook - a safe-cracker by the name of Romeo. The brothers are unaware of each other's identities, but there is one things that binds them together: one has a lock, the other has the only key that can open the lock. Seema too has become a crook, called Simmi, and her path starts crossing with Romeo's. Seema steals diamonds as she wants to find the man who killed her father for the sake of diamonds. They both want to steal the necklace from Maharani Yashudhara Devi (Bindu). Ravi is tasked by his commanding officers to find and apprehend the jewel thief. Seema manages to steal the necklace first but is trapped when Ravi seals the exits from the party. Romeo helps her out by getting the necklace out via his pet pigeon. But later, when Seema wants 50-50 share, he refuses. Seema tries to outfox Ramesh by creating a public ruckus that she is his wife, and he is selling her last jewels. Ramesh outfoxes her by saying that she has not consummated their marriage even after 2 years. Seema runs away. She gets one up on Ramesh by stealing a jeweled statue which Ramesh wanted to steal. Only Ravi knows that Jugran killed his father. One day Seema runs into "Manmohan" and realizes that it was he who had killed her father. Jugran himself needs somebody to pull a Rs 100 Crore robbery (a train with Rs 100 Crores of diamonds travels from Kohinoor diamonds company, and on its way to Bombay it passes through an isolated stretch for 15 mins. Jugran plans to stage a robbery then). Seema meets "Manmohan", when she hides in his car after she is running away from some creditors. While reciting her life story, "Manmohan" realizes that she is Dr Ashok's daughter. Next, He meets Seema (as Jugran) and tells her that he will need her help to involve Romeo in the operation. Simmi hesitates, until Jugran reveals that he knows the identity of her father's murderer. She meets Romeo and tries to seduce him, but Romeo berates her. Simmi reveals her story to him. Romeo is surprised to see Simmi's mother, since it means that Simmi is actually his childhood sweetheart Seema. Now he reveals his true identity to Seema, and the two pair up. Jugran tells them that first they need to open the safe of the GM of the Kohinoor diamond company as only there they can find when the diamond train is scheduled to travel next month. Ramesh cracks the safe while Seema keeps the audience engaged with her dance at the GM's party. Jugran kidnaps the family of D'Souza, whom Seema is in touch with, to ensure that even by mistake D'Souza does not identify Manmohan/Jugran as her father's killer. Later Jugran gets D'Souza killed in a car accident. Meanwhile, Ravi too gets an inkling that Jugran is planning something big with help of Simmi and Romeo. Ravi and Romeo run into each other, only for Romeo to learn that they are brothers (Ravi had the lock to which Romeo had the key). But he doesn't reveal this to Ravi, since Ravi is a policeman and against criminals. Romeo refuses to loot the train (his pet pigeon scratches Jugran's hand and stop him from shooting at Romeo) but is forced to support Seema. Meanwhile Girdharilal gets annoyed that Ramesh is stealing for someone else and informs police/Ravi. Ramesh steals the diamonds, but Ravi attacks. Jugran's men also attack Ramesh, but he evades them and reunites with Seema. They are confronted by Girdharilal, who wants the diamonds, but Jugran's men kill him. Simmi and Romeo finally succeed in turning over the loot to Jugran. After they do this, he binds and gags them after telling Simmi the truth, leaving the pair to die by falling into a container of boiling acid (they are tied up by a rope, which is slowly dissolved by acid). They are saved by Romeo's pet pigeon who manages to throw a ladder in their way which they catch when they fall into the well of acid. . Romeo and Simmi escape, but they get separated from each other. Romeo runs into Ravi, whereupon the latter tries to arrest him. After Romeo tells him the truth, an enraged Ravi reveals to Ramesh that Jugran killed their father too. Ramesh escapes and rejoins Simmi. When he sees "Manmohan" on TV, Ramesh tells Seema that Manmohan and Jugran are the same person. They head to a party that Manmohan is attending. Meanwhile, Ravi gets a tip-off, upon which he turns up at a party almost simultaneously with Ramesh and Seema. Ramesh reveals that when his pigeon perched on Jugran's left hand it left claw marks, just as seen on Manmohan's left hand. Therefore, Manmohan and Jugran are same person. Ravi scoffs at the claim and tells them that Manmohan's fingerprints are available, and it won't be difficult to find out that Manmohan and Jugran are indeed two different people. Seeing that his charade is about to come to an abrupt end, Jugran tries to run away. It is revealed that Ramesh had given the tip-off about Jugran to Ravi. Jugran succeeds in escaping, while his men try to kill Ravi, Ramesh and Seema. The three manage to fight their way to Jugran, who himself tries to shoot them. The trio quickly retaliate, killing him on spot.

Due to her influence, he gives up his bad habits and decides to go straight. Things go well, so much so that both get ready to get married to each other in a simple temple ceremony organized by the community. He vows to avenge his death, but the local police will not permit to do so, and they assign this incident to another inspector. Frustrated, Kapil decides to travel to Goa. Once in Goa, he finds out that he has no powers as a policeman, and the Goa police regard him as a nuisance. He attempts to uncover Albert's death, with the help of Jojo (Archana Puran Singh), but instead gets into brawls, is arrested, and is escorted by the local police, back to Bombay. Raja is waiting to earn enough money, so he can buy his own boat and can provide the luxuries of life to Mona. Thekedaar (Goga Kapoor) is the owner of the docks & the boats. Cheena (Lilliput) is Raja's mute friend and Raja looks out for him Mr D'Silva (Saeed Jaffrey) is Mona's father and likes Raja. Miss Joseph (Nadira) is Raja's adoptive mom & knows Raja loves Mona. Mr Silva wants Mona to marry Raja, but she considers him as only a friend. Vikram (Shafi Inamdar) is the GM of a large fishing company. Batuk Laal (Satish Kaushik) is his assistant. They both work for Kamla Devi (Madhur Jaffrey), the owner of the firm. Vikram wants to ban small fisherman from the sea as their catch impact the market price of the company's products. Kamla Devi is Vikram's aunt, and he dreams of inheriting her wealth and position. But she informs Vikram that her grandson is moving to Goa from the US. Kamla does not like that her son married a commoner due to which Ravi was born. Vikram had eyes on Kamla's wealth and is not happy that Ravi is moving back to Goa, as the heir apparent. Kamla's son and his wife died when Ravi was 7 yrs old. Kamla brought Ravi back, but kept him in hostel for all his life, and only now decided to bring him to Goa to stay with her. Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) moves to Goa and Kamla wants him to manage the business. Ravi does not like that Kamla speaks disparagingly about his parents, and for taunting his death father for wasting his life by marrying his commoner mother. Ravi sees Mona swimming naked in the early morning sun on the beach and goes nuts. One day Vikram decides to drive his boat right through the local fishermen's nets that were deployed in the ocean, damaging them substantially. Raja is a witness and asks Vikram for compensation at his office. Vikram refuses, but Ravi intervenes and agrees to pay, as he has sympathy for the poor. Ravi starts pursuing Mona, and even serenades her. Mona and Ravi fall in love of which Raja knows nothing. Meanwhile Vikram advises Kamla to drop their fish prices in the market. This would force the poor fishermen to match their prices, which they cannot afford as they need to pay interest on their borrowings. This pricing move would wipe out all the poor fishermen of the area and allow Kamla to corner the entire market. Kamla approves the pricing move. The fishermen led by Raja contemplate their next move, but Ravi reaches out to Raja and befriends him, by drinking with him at a local bar. The friendship between Ravi and Raja grows. Ravi wants to marry Mona, but hesitates to ask her dad, so he decides to ask Raja to represent him. But before Ravi can ask, Raja tells Ravi how much he loves Mona, but hasn't had the courage to tell her. Ravi is heartbroken, and decides to step back from Mona. when Ravi finds that Raja is waiting to buy his own boats before he proposes to Mona, he arranges for a family friend to give Raja a business investment (without Raja ever realizing that the investment came from Ravi). Ravi writes a letter to Mona, and tells her that he is going away. They meet for one last time, and Ravi tells Mona that Raja loves her. Meanwhile Raja is ecstatic that he now has a business investment to buy his own boats. He prepares to propose to Mona. He rushes to Mona, only to find Mona and Ravi in a deep embrace. Raja is heartbroken and spends the whole night alone and drinking. Miss Joseph finds out about Raja's heartbreak. The next day Mona approaches Raja and says that she loves Ravi. And Ravi wont even talk to her, unless Raja fixes things between them, as he does not want to come between Mona and Raja. She categorically says that Raja is a great friend to her, but nothing more. To placate Mona, Raja pretends that all of this was only a ruse to get Ravi and Mona to profess their love for each other publicly. Raja then helps reunite Ravi with Mona. Post this Raja leaves with Miss Jospeh to visit her sister. Vikram tells Kamla about Ravi's affair with Mona. Ravi's grandmother, Kamladevi, is opposed to their love because of class differences. Ravi brings Mona to meet Kamla, but she was away on business trip. Ravi gives a holiday to all servants and proceeds to have some frolic with Mona. But Vikram finds out and tells Kamla that Ravi is alone at her bungalow with Mona. Kamla returns to the house and forces Mona to leave without meeting her properly. Kamla refuses to meet Mona formally, but tells Ravi to send Mr D'Silva to meet her. Kamla insults D'Silva over his and his daughter's status, and throws D'Silva out of her house. D'Silva has an heart attack after he is beaten up by Kamla's goons. When Kamla refuses to apologize to the D'Silva family, Ravi leaves her. Ravi goes to meet D'Silva, but is beaten up by the villagers and thrown outside the village. Kamla asks Vikram to buy the loans of the entire village. Kamla then sends the police with court orders to seize the boats of the entire village. The villagers send Mona to beg Kamla to relent. Kamla offers her a choice between Ravi and the welfare of the entire village. Kamla orders Mona to marry someone else within 7 days. Ravi threatens Kamla that if Mona gets married, he will commit suicide. Meanwhile Raja returns from his trip, & D'Silva asks Raja to marry Mona. Raja decides to help Mona and Ravi. Ravi finds out that Raja really loved Mona and that he sacrificed his own love for the sake of his friendship with Ravi. Ravi is shocked. Meanwhile Kamla decides that she cannot afford to lose Ravi and tells Vikram to get him back, by telling him that she is ready to accept all of his demands. Vikram decides to kill Ravi. Vikram abducts Mona and forces Ravi to surrender. He wants Ravi to commit suicide, but Raja intervenes and attacks Vikram's goons. Raja defeats the goons and asks Ravi and Mona to leave town asap. Ravi refuses to take Mona with him, as he knows that Raja loves Mona. But then Vikram gets up and shoots at Ravi. Raja sees this and comes in between, taking the bullets on himself. Ravi kills Vikram, but Raja dies. Kamla accepts Ravi and Mona.

Vijay and Nupur start liking each other after a chance meeting at a bus stop. Suresh (Sidey) is Vijay's boss' son and wants to marry Nupur but ends up liking Nupur's maid, Imarti. Sidey's father is under the influence of a pot-smoking Swami who has a terrible secret hidden from everyone.
