A bunch of misfits and gangsters embarks on a journey to find a lost and stolen diamond. Raja lives in Dubai, U.A.E. and is a career-criminal, partnered by his girlfriend, Tina, and her maternal uncle, Chobey. Raja also makes additional money by masquerading as Rahul, the son of Lajwanti, who was killed in an accident. Since Chobey owes money to a gangster named Moscow Chikna, Raja decides to help him out by arranging the abduction of Rocky, a jewel thief, who has a priceless diamond in his possession. If Raja and his gang do not bring this diamond to Moscow Chikna, he has sworn to cut off their arms. When another gangster, JD, finds out about the diamond, he asks them to bring the diamond to him or else he will cut off their legs. The trio abduct Rocky - only to be threatened by a London-based gangster, Chokshi, who has recruited Gunmaster G9, who has threatened to cut off their respective necks if the diamond is not surrendered to Chokshi. Chaos prevails as the hapless trio, their lives complicated by the bumbling Kuttu Pilot, hustle to save their lives - in vain attempts to try and pacify the three gangsters.

She writes a letter to Dev expressing her inability to come, but fortunately for her, Raj reads it instead. He persuades her to go to Dev. She leaves to go, but never reaches to meet Dev. Dev thinks she has rejected him, and goes back.. What is the reason really? Dev only finds out years later, when he goes to meet her to give her an anklet his, now late, grandmother, who adored her dearly, wanted her to have.

Raj was a chief guest at her first function and offered to open up a dance academy where Priya could teach children. Later he asked for marriage. Priya and Dev meet on a cruise (Priya has won a contest and Dev is going to meet his grandma Suhana Devi (Sharmila Tagore), who lives on an island where only the cruise ship goes) (Priya undresses in Dev's cabin, thinking it is her cabin and Dev thinks Priya is a prostitute). Dev becomes fond of Priya. Dev is a fun-loving, flamboyant Casanova. He tries to get close to Priya. Initially, she doesn't get impressed by Dev (she even slaps him after he tries to get his hands on her during a serenade song. Dev offers to be friends with Priya after she tells him that she is engaged. But then Dev wants Priya to help with his other "conquests" on the ship, which she finds disgusting, but goes along as otherwise he won't leave her alone), but later falls in love with him (she gets jealous as Dev serenades other women on the ship and realizes that she is in love. Dev also stops the paparazzi who try to harass Priya by threatening to ruin her reputation by printing their pics being together). Dev takes Priya to meet his grandma. Priya and Suhana get along very well with each other. Suhana asks Priya to follow her heart. she is in tears when she leaves the island. Next day Bombay will come and the 2 will be separated. Dev admits his feelings for Priya. He begs for 6 months to work hard and prove his love for her. However, due to them already being engaged to other people, they agree to work everything out and meet in 6 months on Valentine's Day to get married. During the 6 months, Dev breaks off his engagement with Anita (Raj was there when Dev publicly broke off his engagement with Anita and applauds his commitment towards his love) and starts working hard (he even takes up menial jobs such as painting zebra crossings and ad posters on billboards). Driven by his love, he creates and auctions beautiful paintings, and becomes very successful along with the support of his friend Nattu (Neeraj Vora). On the other hand, Priya realizes that leaving Raj will be wrong (the headmistress of her orphanage tells Priya that if she leaves Raj, then going forward no decent man will ever marry a girl from the orphanage) and sadly writes a letter to Dev, explaining everything. When Raj gets the letter instead, he supports Priya and convinces her to go to Dev. Things take a bad turn when, on her way to meet him, Priya gets hit by a car and gets her legs amputated. Dev, who waited all night for Priya, believes she has rejected him, as he does not know of her accident. Priya forbids Raj from telling Dev the truth, not wanting to become a burden on him. Now, Priya spends her time running a musical academy for small kids. Though heartbroken, Dev continues his career and goes on to become a famous painter. One day, Priya attends his art exhibition and wishes to buy a painting of his, a sentimental picture of her speaking to his beloved grandmother, whom Dev had introduced to her during the cruise. Dev had said that he would not sell the painting as it was only for Priya, but upon hearing that the girl who wanted it understands the emotion behind the picture and is disabled, he tells the host of the exhibition to give the painting to her for free. One day, he meets Priya again with Raj at a theatre gathering but again Priya forbids Raj of telling the truth. He visits Priya to give her an anklet that his grandmother, who recently died, had wished for Priya to have when she became Dev's bride. Initially unaware of Priya's condition, Dev realizes the truth when he remembers giving the painting to a handicapped girl and finds the same painting in another room. The two embrace tearfully and he assures Priya that he will love her no matter what. Dev and Priya then married by Raj, where Dev carries Priya for the wedding rounds in the presence of Nattu and the children of the Musical academy.

Savitri lives a wealthy life-style with her businessman husband and a daughter, Meenu. She gets pregnant a second time, gives birth to a son, Khetan, but tragically passes away. Her husband falls down the stairs, and loses his vision. Years later, Chanda has grown up and is of marriageable age, Laxmi and her husband, are looked after by their servant, Ramu, who lives with a woman named Asha. One day Asha tells them that she knows about Khetan, and an overjoyed family rush over to meet him. But these material possessions does make them a little snobbish, as Jatin cannot hear of his friend, Karan, the son of Bank Manager, Amar Nath, for falling in love with his sister. Surendra has Karan arrested for being near Sanam. Independent minded Sanam has also fallen in love with Karan, and when she is imprisoned by Surendra, both elope, much to chagrin of Surendra, who is aware that widowed Amar is having an affair with a woman named Prema Mohan. Surendra & Jatin with the help of Vishnu Dada and his goons hunt them down, but the lovebirds are rescued by Uncle Joe, a friend of Karan. After being rescued, they are asked by Joe to take a holiday. What Sanam does not know is that Karan has taken to smuggling so that he can rich as the Malhotras. 'Lakshmi Bhavan' is sold to none other than Chander himself for 25 Lakhs, and Rajjan moves to the outhouse. Soon Chander starts to liven things up including drinking alcohol and having lavish parties with dancing girls which does not auger very well with Rajjan - who had always treated this mansion as a holy place. After Rahul's operation Preeti comes to know about the reality and confronts her father who confesses to her that he had lied about her giving birth to a dead child and asks her forgiveness but Preeti retorts saying that she an never forgive him as he had lied to her and thinks herself deceived by her own father. One day he travels to Mussoorie to attend a case. He meets with a stranger, they share a table, then they play cards. After playing cards Vishnu passes out, and when he wakes he finds himself under arrest for the murder of one Dhanraj. Angered at this, he loudly voices his innocence, that he is a Judge. But he is told that his real name is Anil Kumar, the owner of a theater in Delhi, who had a dispute with a man named Dhanraj, and killed him. Shortly thereafter the Prosecuting Attorney informs the court that Dhanraj had died of a heart-attack, and as a result Vishnu is discharged. Anxious to go home to his wife and friend, he gets a shock when he is told that his body has been burnt beyond recognition in a car accident. Anxious to clear this misunderstanding, he returns home to Gorakhpur and finds that Mala is having an affair with Rajan. Devastated and heart-broken he rests on a bench at Gorakhpur Railway Station when a man named Johar approaches him, calls him Diwan Anil Kumar, and convinces him to travel with him to Delhi and his palatial home. In order to solve this riddle, Vishnu travels to Delhi, where he is welcomed at his estate by his staff and a woman named Meena. While attempting to solve the Anil Kumar mystery and how he was killed, he gets embroiled in another puzzle, when Meena calls by the name of Sunil. Shyamal (Barun Chanda) is an ambitious sales manager in a British fan manufacturing firm in Calcutta, where he is expecting a promotion shortly. He is married to Dolan and lives in a company flat. He aspires to become the company director. His sister-in-law, Tutul (Sharmila Tagore), arrives from Patna to stay with them for a few days. She is given a tour of the life they lead and the many upscale spaces they inhabit the restaurants, the beauty parlours, clubs and race courses. Tutul, whose father Shyamal had once been a student under, greatly admires him and his idealism. Secretly she is envious of her sister's marriage with him. Life goes on smoothly for Shyamal until he learns that a consignment of fans meant for export is defective just before the shipment of a prestigious order. The problem is that the fans were painted with a flaw. The company is under a contract requiring the shipment be delivered on time. There is a clause permitting delay in case of civil disturbance. To escape blame Shyamal hatches a plan with the labour officer to provoke a strike at the factory. A factory watchman is badly injured, a false riot is organised and a lock-out declared. The delay caused by the strike and riot are used by the company to allow strikebreakers to make needed repairs. For his 'efficient' handling of the crisis, Shyamal is promoted, and there is congratulations all around. However Shyamalendu has fallen in the eyes of Tutul and himself. He is finally at the top, successful and desolate.

An Indian air-force officer Arun falls in love with Vandana and the two get married in secret, but a pregnant Vandana gets the shock of her life when Arun dies in a plane crash.

Rajesh Sharma, working with the Indian Government on a top secret research project, has to deal with enemy agents, explosions, murder and last but not least a dangerous look-alike. Police officer Rajesh is an expert in explosives and chemicals. He lives with his dog and his cook, and has a love interest in Rita. The department in which Rajesh works discovers that people are interested in stealing information about explosives from them, and start to guard against such an attack, but Rajesh is kidnapped and taken abroad. The kidnappers keep Rajesh imprisoned and send a look-alike, Jackoss, back to India to deceive the department. Jackoss is a non-Indian with blue eyes and a voice different from Rajesh's. To deceive Rajesh's department, he uses contact lenses and tells them that he lost his voice in the kidnapping. Rita believes him and accepts him as Rajesh, although she has some misgivings. Rajesh's dog and cook realise what has happened, so Jackoss kills them so they can't expose him. The authorities are also less trusting and do not allow Jackoss to enter the high-security zone until some other criminals help Jackoss to convince the authorities of his identity. Meanwhile Rajesh escapes and makes his way back to India. Jackoss had plans to blow up a laboratory, but Rajesh reaches it on time and foils his plan. Lala Kedarnath Prasanta (Balraj Sahni) has three sons whose birthdays are on the same day. Lala Kedarnath has a Kashmir carpets & dry fruits business and fate has been kind to him that he got rich and earned a lot of respect and fame in society. On the occasion of their birthday celebration, they are visited by a well-known astrologer Pandit Uday Shankar (Badri Prasad), who advises Lala Kedarnath not to be proud for his past achievements and to not be too optimistic about the future as fate (Kismat) plays a key role in life. Lala Kedarnath ignores the prediction and is busy making plans for an even wealthier future. He says that his eldest son will become a barrister, the middle one Ravi will join him at the shop, and the youngest would be an engineer. Later that night as he is proclaiming his grand plans for the future to his wife (Achala Sachdev), there is a sudden earthquake and the whole town crumbles. When Lala Kedarnath regains consciousness, his house has been destroyed and his family is gone. The oldest son, Raju (Raaj Kumar), ends up in an orphanage, while middle son, Ravi, (Sunil Dutt) is found on the road by a rich couple who take him to their home to raise him as their own son. The youngest son, Vijay (Shashi Kapoor) who is still an infant, is with his mother Laxmi (Achla Sachdev). A family friend tells Laxmi that he saw an iron beam fall on Lala, and he might not be alive anymore. Unable to find the rest of the family, Laxmi and Vijay live in poverty. Lala Kedarnath traces Raju to the orphanage but finds that he has run away because the orphanage manager (Jeevan) beat him up. The manager was very corrupt who took the government grants and spent it on his own luxury and comfort rather than provide the basic amenities to the kids. When Raju protested, he was severely disciplined. Frustrated, Kedarnath kills the manager and is jailed. As the police drive away with Kedarnath. Raju grows up as Raja, a sophisticated thief, who works for Chinnoy Seth (Rehman). Raja falls in love with Meena (Sadhana) and decides to give up the life of crime. Once Raja had stolen a necklace that belonged to Meena and then decided to return it to her as a present on her birthday. That day Raja fell I love with Meena. Raja claims that the thief dropped the necklace inside his house while escaping. Chinnoy is livid that Raju returned the necklace to Meena and says that he got Raju from the streets and made him what he is today. Raju refuses to let Chinnoy own his personal life. Ravi is a lawyer now and his father and Meena's father are good friends. Ravi's father had asked Meena's father to arrange for Ravi's internship. Ravi is loved by his foster parents who never told him that he is adopted. He has a sister named Renu. Meanwhile, Vijay has completed his BA but cannot find a job. Renu has been in love with Vijay since their college days together (Vijay is also in love with Renu), but Vijay has not been able to find a suitable job in Delhi despite having a BA degree. Laxmi has been diagnosed with cancer. Vijay takes Laxmi to Bombay for her treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital. Vijay cannot find any job in Bombay and has no other option but to be a driver employed with Chinnoy Seth. Lala Kedarnath is released from prison after completing his sentence and decides to find his kids. Kedarnath finds from his old friend Hardayal (Hari Shivdasani) that Laxmi is alive and stays in Delhi. When Kedarnath reaches the address, he finds that Laxmi had shifted to Bombay. Renu and her parents also come to Bombay for a vacation. Renu finds Vijay as a driver working for her father's friend Chinnoy Seth, when he comes to visit them. Renu still loves Vijay, but now Vijay is very reserved and knows that the gap between their social status is too huge. Raja continues to pursue Meena, but a vivacious Ravi arrives in her life and sweeps her away. Raja finds that Meena is spending all her time with Ravi. Gradually, Meena and Ravi fall in love with each other. To Raja's dismay he realizes that she however intends to marry Ravi, who is a family friend. On the night before their engagement, Raja decides to kill Ravi only to realize that he is his long-lost brother. However, he cannot tell Ravi about his parentage and in the meantime Meena's parents (father (Manmohan Krishna) and mother (Leela Chitnis)) decide to break off the engagement on discovering that Ravi is of unknown parentage and religion. Heartbroken, Ravi leaves his home after an argument with his foster parent's (father (Surendra Nath) and mother (Sumati Gupte)) daughter Renu (Sharmila Tagore), whom he considers a sister, over the fact that he had objected to her affair with Vijay who is working as a driver for Chinnoy Seth. Raja learns about Ravi's problem and decides to reveal the truth about their relationship at a party organized by Chinnoy Seth. However, Chinnoy Seth's employee Balbir Singh (Madan Puri) drunkenly misbehaves with Meena at the party and Raja manhandles him. Later that night, the drunk Balbir gets into a fight with Chinnoy Seth and in self-defense, Chinnoy Seth ends up stabbing Balbir fatally with his dagger. To cover up his crime, he decides to frame Raja and drags the body to Raja's house, hiding it in his closet. Vijay happens to witness this but is shut up with the promise of money for his mother's treatment. Raja is arrested and asks Ravi to defend him as an advocate, while Vijay initially testifies falsely and then recants his statement after being confronted. Lala Kedarnath also appears in court as the witness who found Raja being caught by the police. Raja is ultimately proved innocent and Chinnoy Seth is convicted after he blurts out the truth in court (as Ravi uses his smarts to prove that Raja could never have attacked Balbir from the angle that Chinnoy proposed and that it was Chinnoy who was in the right position to attack Balbir), thanks to Ravi. Afterward, Laxmi arrives in the court to make sure Vijay did the right thing. Lala Kedarnath sees her in the courtroom and has an emotional reunion with her and Vijay. Raja then overhears Lala Kedarnath narrating his orphanage incident to Laxmi and introduces himself and Ravi as Lala Kedarnath and Laxmi's remaining two sons. The entire family finally reunites. In the end, Lala Kedarnath and the rest of the family build a new home where they, Meena's family, and Renu's family live together.

When a widower is about to marry his new lover, a woman claiming to be his first wife, Kalpana, stops his wedding. Soon, the matter is taken to the court where only Kalpana`s brother can identify her.
