After being betrayed by his wife, Karan (Ali Fazal) quits his regular job and locks himself in. He only receives daily groceries via the neighborhood maid (Kalpana Jha). Even stepping out induces extreme anxiety within him. Karan collects matchboxes as a hobby and spends his time with house chores. It's been 279 days since he stepped out of the house. Jamshed Daneja / JD (Jim Sarbh) is Karan's best friend. JD tries a lot to get Karan out of the house, but he refuses. One evening, a neighbor, Pinky (Barkha Singh), drops off a packaged cabinet at his place and asks him to take care of it. Rambo (Sunil Kumar) is Pinky's bodyguard. Pinky's father lives in Dubai and is a mafia don. Karan later discovers that the package (a large pink suitcase) is something deadly. When the suitcase opens by mistake, he sees a body covered in bubble wrap kept inside. Pinky says that the man (Badrul Islam) was trying to kidnap her. Karan protests, but Rambo will not allow Karan to move the suitcase out. Pinky promises that Rambo will pick up the package in the evening. At the same time, a young journalist named Saira (Shriya Pilgaonkar) who has heard of his isolation from JD comes to interview him. Saira is investigating the surge of Japanese phenomena Hikikomori in India, in which young men do not leave their rooms. They just shut in and reject society. Karan did not step out even though he could see his car being stolen from his balcony. Karan realizes that the man inside the suitcase is alive. Karan stuff the man inside the suitcase, just as Saira arrives. Karan admits that he would leave the house in case of a fire or a friend emergency. He says he was a banker and go tired of chasing the goals of his life. He trades stocks and consults over Skype to earn some money. Karan even trusts the watchman to withdraw cash from the ATM for his daily needs. They hit it off while he constantly tries to keep her from seeing the package. 2 more goons (Tariq Anwar and Tilak Raj Joshi) enter the building looking for the kidnapper and leave shortly thereafter. Karan offers to cook lunch for Saira. The watchman complains about the goons to the police, who send 2 constables (Arun Kalra & Deeptesh Das) to investigate. Meanwhile, Karan shows Saira how he observes everybody in his society to pass his time. Saira says that Karan is lucky that so many people care whether he comes out of the house or not. Karan and Saira have an obvious chemistry. Pinky calls Karan, who tells her that the kidnapper is alive. Pinky tells Karan to slash the kidnapper's throat and asks him not to let him escape. Eventually, Saira leaves. JD calls Karan and announces his intentions to hit on Saira, if Karan does not lock her into a relationship. Karan calls Saira and asks her to return. Saira says she has work at the office, but then returns to Karan's home. She says that she needs a laptop to complete her work and the office has no electricity. Saira admits that she suspected Karan to be psycho murderer as he keeps his house too clean and expected him to be stashing dead bodies in his house. Turns out JD and Saira used to date, but now Saira is avoiding JD. Saira says that JD was cheating on her. JD tells Saira not to reveal to Karan that they were lovers. As Saira is talking to JD on the phone, the kidnapper falls out of the suitcase in another room, and Karan goes to deal with him. Karan again knocks him out with a fire extinguisher and stuff him into the suitcase. There is obvious passion between Karan and Saira, and they are restraining themselves. Saira cannot believe that Karan is friends with JD. Karan says that they are together since childhood, and deep down he is a nice guy. While Saira works on the laptop to complete her articles, Karan makes a milk shake for the kidnapper and mixes sleeping pills into it. He feeds the shake to the kidnapper and puts him to sleep. Saira realizes that Karan is into video games, and asks him to show her his office, which is where he had kept the suitcase. As evening approaches, Karan manages to keep Saira away from the suitcase. They have dinner and wine together. Saira says that her ex-boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend. Karan says that his wife ran away with his boss. Karan says that he ignored her to earn money, and now he can't even leave the house. Karan and Saira end up kissing. Saira says that she likes Karan but cannot be with a man who shuns society. Once again, Saira leaves, but she returns again. They end up having sex. They end up spending the night in bed. Karan wants Saira to stay, but she decides to go to work. This is when the kidnapper wakes up, escapes the suitcase, ransacks the house, before knocking himself out on a marble table. Saira is alarmed. Saira believes that she has been played by JD and Karan, and that's when Karan realizes that Saira was JD's lover. As Saira leaves, she is stopped by Pinky and Rambo, who arrive at Karan's apartment. Karan makes Pinky tell Saira the truth. Karan then tells Saira that he never asked her to come and now he asks her to leave. Karan then stands up to Pinky's bullying and agrees to be friends with her. Pinky tells Karan to go after Saira. Karan finally overcomes his anxiety, steps out of the house and catches up with Saira before she boards an auto-rickshaw.
