Twin brothers are separated at birth and in adulthood, their identities are swapped. Leela and Bholaram are a childless couple. Leela works as a midwife, and one day assists Sunderdas' wife to give birth to twin boys. She decides to keep one baby for herself, and tells Sunderdas that his wife has given birth to one child. There are complications for the mother, and she passes away without seeing her children. Leela and Bholaram bring up Kanhaiya, while Sunderdas attempts to bring up Kishen, but is unable to do a good job. So he marries Kamini, who comes along with her brother, Ghendamal, to live at the estate. She has an illegitimate child named Ramesh from another man, and when Sunderdas comes to know of this, he is threatened and attacked, and as a result of which p is paralyzed, unable to move. Kishen is brought by Kamini and Ghendamal with lot of abuse, and intimidation, and is kept illiterate, so that he can blindly sign away whatever documents he is asked to sign. Kishen likes Radha, a servant, and is married, but the atrocities do not stop, and then Kishen runs away. Ghendamal captures Kanhaiya, who also looks like Kishen, and brings him back, not realizing that the tables are now going against him. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) A maid-servant and her husband, Leela and Bolaram assist multi-millionaire, Seth Sundardas wife to give birth to a pair of twin baby boys. Due to immense pain for the mother she passes away after giving birth to the twin boys. The twins have a similarity that when one is in pain the other feels it. In need of a child, Leela and Bolaram decide to adopt one of the twins and thus name him Kanhaiya and bring him up in a poor environment. Seth Sundardas attempts to bring up Kishen but is unable to do a good job since the child falls short of nourishing, so he decides to re-marry a woman named Kamini the sister of cunning Gendamal. Kamini have an illegitimate child, Mahesh, of whom she brings to live at Seth's estate. Seth disapprove of keeping Mahesh and subsequently meets with an accident and is paralyzed unable to move his legs, arms and cannot talk and therefore is kept bed ridden. Taking advantage of the situation, Gendamal schemes with Kamini to grab Seth's estate and parental property and brings up his son, Kishen with a lot of abuse and lack of ancestry so that he can blindly sign away any documents present before him but Kishen refuses to endorse the document and is badly beaten and left for dead. In order to get medical treatment for his sister, a brother faces challenges when he is hired to subdue three out-of-control heiresses. Ashok is unable to find employment and is in desperate need of Rs.15000/- to cure his blind sister, Roopa. He then finds employment with wealthy Sarojini Devi who asks him to subdue her out-of-control grand-daughters, Asha, Manju and Anju. He sets about to do so with considerable success but in the process falls in love with Asha. This does not auger well with Sarojini, who fires him, and sets about to get Asha married to London-based Pran. Ashok returns home and finds Roopa missing. Shortly thereafter he finds evidence that she may have killed herself. Gayetridevi sends her son, Ashok to get her grandson from Japan. Gayetridevi had an elder son, who married a girl of Japanese origin without her blessings. She wants Ashok to get married to Sarita, but Ashok does not show any interest in Sarita. In Japan, Ashok meets with Asha and both fall in love. Asha's uncle wants Asha to marry Pran, but Asha does not like Pran and runs away with Ashok. Pran runs down Ashok with his car, and Ashok is hospitalized and may lose his eye-sight. On the lookout for employment, Ashok (Joy Mukherji) sees the photographs of beautiful Asha (Asha Parekh), and decides to accept employment as the estate's Manager. His expectations are shortlived as Asha turns out to be a rich, spoiled, conceited bratty young lady. To complicate matters further, Seema (Nazima), Asha's sister is attracted to Ashok. Ashok and Asha do like and eventually end up in love with each other, but Ashok's dad (Ulhas) does not approve to their marriage as he knows of Asha's parentage, a father who is an escaped convict, in jail for murder, and a mother whose profession was: prostition. An orphan gets in trouble with the law and is sent to a home for young women. There, for the first time, she finds friendship, compassion, and possibly love. After her parents pass away, teenager Gauri goes to live with her paternal uncle, Kashinath, and his wife. She is ill-treated there, made to do all the housework, and abused by her aunt. She is also asked to work as a servant for meager wages in another household, and her earnings are taken away by her aunt. One day, Kashinath is summoned to the Police Station where he is told that since Gauri has been convicted of stealing a necklace from her employer, she is placed under his care for 12 months. Kashinath undertakes to look after her, but she manages to escape, and beats up Bankelal, who had originally accused her of stealing the necklace. The Police are summoned again, and this time Gauri is placed with Shree Satyanand Anarthalaya, an orphanage run by a compassionate Manager, Ashok. Gauri revolts against all the rules imposed upon her and she is placed in solitary, where she ends up breaking all the windows and furniture. Then one day she escapes, beats up Bankelal severely, and returns back. She is once again placed in solitary. Then Ashok and his associate Murlidhar find out that Bankelal had framed Gauri, and they inform the Police, who make Bankelal confess. In this way, Gauri gets a pardon, and is asked to leave the orphanage, but she refuses to do so and stays on after promising that she will always obey Ashok. When Ashok has a heart attack, she proposes to stay and look after him, but Ashok wants her to leave and get married to Murlidhar.
