One Room Kitchen is the story of a happy middle-class family with limited earnings. They live in a chawl where the residents are very large-hearted and emphatic although they are staying in the tiny spaces of their rooms. Life is sailing smoothly until the family feels the need to purchase a one room kitchen housing apartment that fits their budget. The need to save each money distances them from their friendly neighbours until the true meaning of happiness unfolds in their life. The Dancing Queen of Bollywood, Helen will also be a part of this venture where she plays a Catholic woman who awaits her son who went missing during the Kargil war.

Raju and Vicky are childhood friends. Both attend the same school, spend time together, participate and excel in the same sports, and are also good in their studies. When the two month summer vacation begins, it results in tragedy for both of them, as Raju's dad loses his eyesight, and Vicky's mom passes away after giving birth to baby boy, and his dad is on the run from the police for murder. Two close and devout Muslim youth, Javed and Akhtar, are childhood pals. They both unknowingly fall in love with the same woman, Firdaus. Since Akhtar is wealthy, and comes from a noble family, the girl's dad, Nawab Mirza, decides that she should marry Akhtar. She is reluctant to do so, but finally agrees when she is threatened. Akhtar has not yet seen Firdaus, but finds out that Javed also loves her, and he decides to marry her, and promptly divorce her by saying "Talaq" three times, so that Javed can marry her later. Ahmed, Mohan are con men posing as false witnesses. Meeting Kabir, they want to reform but face challenges. When Kabir is jailed for murder he didn't commit, they vow to find the real culprit but land in trouble themselves. This is a story about two guys who act as mock witnesses and always hang around court to give evidence as per the requirement of the case every time. They have never believed in God but eventually they have to accept the power of God. Ahmed and Mohan Kumar Saxena are petty thieves, and con-men. They career is spent as false witnesses near the Bombay courts, where they get paid a set sum of rupees for false depositions. This changes when they meet and are influenced by Kabir Das, and decide to go straight. They find that it's virtually impossible to earn a living as honest citizens. Then Kabir Das is arrested and imprisoned by a murder he claims he did not commit, and the duo promise to help him, and find out who the real killer is, but they themselves end up getting in trouble.

Haridwar-based Neelkanth Pandey and Shambhu Nath get their children, Bhagwantiprasad and Parvati respectively, married. Whille Shambhu re-locates to live in Bombay, Neelkanth continues to reside in the same residence. Years later both children have grown up, so Neelkanth invites the Naths to finalize the nuptials. Very soon the Pandeys will face humiliation and ridicule at the hands of Parvati, who now calls herself Pamela, and Shambhu, who wants his daughter to marry someone sophisticated and wealthy, while Parvati is in love with a singer named Rocky.
