Shob Bhooturey is a Bengali ghost film where the protagonist Aniket (Abir Chatterjee) is a modern guy who is hell-bent on closing down the ghost magazine, started by his father, the Late Nabinmadhab Sen. The editor of the magazine "Shob Bhooturey" and Nabinmadhab`s friend Kripadhar Babu (Supriyo Dutta) is opposed to Aniket`s decision. At this time a strange girl, Nandini (Sohini Sarkar), comes to their office and claims that Nabinmadhab had promised her employment because she can apparently see ghosts. Parallel to this, a school in the village of Kushumpur is shut down due to the occurrence of ghostly events culminating in the mysterious death of a child named Mini (Ida Dasgupta). The headmaster of the school, Poritosh Mukherjee (Sumanto Mukherjee) comes to this magazine for help. Aniket, Nandini and Kripadhar Babu set out on a mission to re-open the school and unravel the ghostly mystery.

The story is based on the conviction Dhananjoy, accused for the gruesome murder of Hetal Parekh, which took place in the year 1990. On the basis of circumstantial evidence and on the basis of the deceased mother`s statement, Dhananjoy Chatterjee- a security guard, was executed and hanged to death on the early hours of 15th August 2004, after serving imprisonment for 14 long years and after having appealed to all levels of court in the country; and finally, to the President of India.

Maharaja Arunangshu, the ruler of a princely state named Balabantpur, had made a wish list on his death bed in the presence of Dewan Chandrashekhar, the family physician Kaligati and the High Priest. The first of which forbade Himangshu from marrying a non Hindu girl, and the second demanded a legitimate heir within three years of his marriage. This mystery occasions the arrival of the sleuth Byomkesh and his author friend Ajit to Balwantpur. The visit though is under the pretext of an invitation for a hunting expedition. The ensuing story revolves around his unveiling of the culprit behind the mystery of Balwantpur.

The story revolves around a brave heart Barun Biswas, portrayed by Parambrata Chatterjee, who raises voice against numerous gang rapes in a village called Dukhiya. Later, Binod Bihari Dutta, portrayed by Paran Bondhopadhyay, coming to Dukhiya in search of the truth behind Barun`s murder. Binod comes to know about the goons (who are by now released on bail), and the way they have terrorized the village. Binod tries to motivate villagers the way Barun did.

Now, when the two arrive the woman's son and his new bride are in the throes of passion, constantly sneaking off to be alone together; this infatuation does not last long, however, when Mahendra begins to see that his wife's friend, Binodini, is more his type. The story details the lives of these three and Mahendra's best friend as they deal with certain issues as distrust, adultery, lies, and numerous fallings-out between them. Rana becomes a police officer and take care of his family. Here we find the story of a middle-class family struggling financially. The family consists of two sisters, mother & father. Prosenjit Chatterjee as a Rana is the main and a promising character here. We find him to be a daredevil and a terrific fighter against injustice. Once he was traveling with his pregnant sister in a train, he begged everybody for a seat for his sister to sit, but no one paid heed to it. There were some burglars in the train who started looting but, Rana saved it from happening. By this act of his he was given the job of a police officer. In Rana's area of jurisdiction, there lived an MLA name Bikas. He was a very corrupt politician & indulged in all illegal activities. There lived another man Azad who fought against injustice everywhere. Now this minister's girl Jaya, fell in love with Rana. Once it so happened that while Rana's sitter was about to give birth to her child, this minister, Bikas, tried to kill Rana, but his sister was injured and ultimately died. Binodini Roy, a renowned industrialist doesn't like her son-in-law who is an uncultured mechanic.
