Vijay and Radha are leading a happy marital life until she begins to suspect that Vijay is having an extramarital affair with his secretary.

Vijay, a young businessman, whose only aim in life is to have fun, is the managing director of a big tea estate in Ooty. His company goes on a big loss because of his mismanagement. Vijay spends most of his time partying and flirting with girls whenever he feels like it. To manage the loss to his company, Vijay invites his father Rajashekar, who is in the United States, to come to India to sign some documents. Rajashekar dies in a plane crash on his way to India. Vijay's maternal uncle Ashok comes up with the idea of having another elderly person act as Vijay's father for a while until the documents are signed. So they visit a senior home in Coimbatore, where they meet Selvam, one of the inmates, and they request him to act as Vijay's father. He agrees to it and starts to act as Vijay's father. Selvam observes the careless, take-it-easy lifestyle of Vijay and is reminded of the old days when he used to be like Vijay. Selvam is very affectionate towards Vijay and he considers him as his son. Vijay finds out about Selvam's past life, that Selvam was married to Shantha and they have been living separately for the past 34 years. He wants them to get united and he searches and finds the whereabouts of Shantha. Meanwhile, Kavitha joins Vijay's company and she talks to Vijay in her own style. Vijay is knocked out by Kavitha's beauty and he falls in love with her. Then, their love gets into trouble because of Kavitha's mother. Now, Vijay tries to unite Selvam and Shantha. In return, Selvam tries to unite Vijay and Kavitha. Kavitha first tries to kill Vijay to avenge her sister Anju, who committed suicide due to Vijay rejecting her love for him. But through Ashok and Selvam, Kavitha understands Vijay's good heart reunites with him. Also, Selvam and Shantha meet once again and get married 'Once More'. The film hence ends on a happy note.

After his father's death, Thangapandi faces family conflicts, marries his cousin Malar, and helps his ailing mother find peace. For several years, Thangapandi (Prabhu) is in feud with his stepbrothers (Ponvannan and Vignesh). In the past, Durairasuthevar (Sivaji Ganesan), the village chief, planned the marriage of his daughter (Raadhika Sarathkumar) and she got married with a rich man. Few days later, after the birth of Thangapandi, her husband died and Durairasuthevar forced her daughter to remarry with her cousin Kathiresathevar (Sivakumar). Then, Thangapandi became jealous of, the new born, Sellasamy and decided to live with his grandfather Durairasu Thevar (Sivaji Ganesan). After, Durairasu Thevar's death, the conflict has hardened. Angusamy (Ilavarasu) hates Thangapandi. Sellasamy (Ponvannan) wants to get married after his uncle Angusamy's advices but that's disrespectful to not arrange the marriage for the elder son first. Finally, Sellasamy got married before Thangapandi. Meanwhile, Malar (Saranya Ponvannan) is in love with her cousin Thangapandi and he proposes her. At Thangapandi's marriage, his mother came to see it secretly and she saw his son's affection to her. Thangapandi's mother falls ill and Thangapandi give milk (custom in village) to end her sufferings.

The story is based on Indian historical events during the 16th century. It narrates the victory of Viswanatha Nayak on his father to express his devotion towards Srikrishnadevaraya. Viswanatha Nayak (Krishna) is the son of Nagama Nayak (Sivaji Ganesan), a successful General of Srikrishnadevaraya (Krishnam Raju) of the Vijayanagara Empire. Chola King Veerasekhara Chola invades the Madurai Kingdom and deposes the Pandya King Chandrasekhara Pandyan who was under the protection of Srikrishnadevaraya. Due to this, an enraged Srikrishnadevaraya sends Nagama Nayak to aid Chandrasekhara Pandyan. Nagama Nayak suppresses Veerasekhara Chola and takes Madurai, but then suddenly he calls off his allegiance and declining to help Chandrasekhara Pandyan usurps the throne. So, Viswanatha Nayak volunteers to face his father in the battlefield. —Soumitra

The film revolves around Lord Murugan, his birth, his marriage, and his acceptance of the post of the head of the army of heaven. In Hinduism, there are six abodes of Lord Muruga, known as the "Arupadaiveedu". The story behind each of the abodes are portrayed chronologically in the film. It starts with Swamimalai, where Lord Muruga (Master Sridhar) teaches the meaning of the word 'OM' to his father, Lord Shiva (Gemini Ganesan). He goes to Palani Hills after a fight over a sacred fruit, that is his second abode. Then he wins over the demon king Surapadman in Thiruchendur and that is his third abode. The King of heaven, Lord Indra, offers his Daughter's hand in appreciation of Lord Muruga's Victory and he marries her in Thirupparamkunram, his fourth abode. He later marries Valli in his fifth abode of Thiruthani, later after a short dispute between both his wives they amicably settle in Pazhamudircholai, his sixth abode. All the events are summarized by Nakkeerar, a great Tamil Poet portrayed by Sirkazhi Govindarajan at the end of the film.

Sanskrit Kavi Kali faces many challenges after falling in love with a low-caste woman. Living the life of an upper-caste Brahman, Kali falls in love with Puspavali, a low-caste woman, much to the chagrin of his stepmother, who raises a hue cry, and asks him to leave. Both Kali and Pushpavali are forced to leave the village after they find out that no one approves of their relationship. Their travels will take them to a distant palace ruled by a king and his snobbish daughter, who will hire Pushpavali to sing. Radha), who would be given a lot of money if they killed Pandiya. While being chased by them once, he gets into a runaway car being driven by an insane young girl(Vasanthi). The car crashes, but the girl gets cured from her insanity. Her father allows Pandiya, who is homeless, to stay with them. Parallelly, Pandiya falls for Geetha (Devika) and her father Amritha Lingam (also M. R. Radha) accepts the romance. But Marudhu and Kabali's pursuit for Pandiya still continues, and they successfully toss him into the sea. What happens to next forms the remaining story.

Believing his wife to be dead, a soldier with the British-Indian army marries another woman and moves on. But what happens when he discovers that his wife is actually alive? Balu (Sivaji Ganesan) and Velu (Gemini Ganesan) work in British Indian Air Force and are fighting with allied forces in World War II. Their plane crashes due to bombs dropped by Japanese. Velu is grievously injured. Balu carries him 50 miles to a village in Assam. There Velu regains consciousness and his health starts improving under the care of Indroma(Savithri) and her father, in whose house they are staying. Japanese soldiers come in search of these two. Balu hides Velu and when Japanese are about to discover Velu, he gives himself up to save Velu. Velu recovers, and marries Indroma, teaches her Tamil and calls her Indra. velu is found my members of British Indian army the day after his wedding and has to leave with them, leaving his wife behind. Indra is pregnant and gives birth to a child, however, their village is bombed and she loses her eyesight. When Velu comes in search of his wife, he only sees the ruins of the former village and grieves thinking his wife is dead and goes to Chennai to his maternal uncle. After 5 years, Balu, who had joined Indian National Army under Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose when Bose had come to Japan, is acquitted in a court and released in Delhi. There, in a refugee camp, he sees a blind Indra and her son and comes to know that Indra's father had just died. He promises Indra that he will help her find Velu and unite them. So, Balu takes Indra and her son and travels to Chennai. Indra's son starts calling Balu as appa in spite of Indra telling him not to. They find a place to stay in Chennai and the house owner promises Balu that he will help him get a job in his company. On going to his house owners office, Balu sees that the owner of that company is Velu. He gets very happy and goes to Velus's house,only to see that Velu has married his Maternal uncle's daughter Janaki(Sowcar Janaki), who has heart problems and has a son also. Also, Balu also comes to know that Velu thinks that Indra is dead. Balu does not tell him the truth fearing Janaki would not be alive on knowing the truth. Velu gives Balu a very high position in his company. Janaki's sister Saro( Saroja Devi) falls in love with Balu and Balu also reciprocates. Meanwhile, Velu sees Indra and her son in Balu's house and gets shocked. Balu then tells him the truth about Indra, her blindness and Velu's son and cautions him not to talk with her as it might cause both Janaki and Indra to die. Janaki comes to know that Balu has a son and Saro loves Balu. She thinks that Balu is a married person ashamed of his blind wife and hence trying to cheat her sister. She hates him and cautions Saro against him. Saro comes to Balu's house, sees Indra's son Babu, calling Balu as his father and thinks that Balu has cheated her. Indra, on hearing this comes to Velu's house to meet Saro and clear the confusion. Velu, however, on seeing his blind wife pleading for Balu's innocence cannot contain himself and tells the truth to everyone. Janaki on hearing that Indra is her husband's first wife, cannot take the shock and dies. She unites Balu and Saro before dying and apologizes to Balu for having suspected him and thanks him for all the sacrifices he has made for her husband and family.

A story of two rival kings, (R. Balasubramaniam, T.E. Krishnamachari); Sivaji Ganesan is the son of the latter. Krishnamachari is under the influence of an ambitious spiritual guru (Nambiar) who manipulates the king for his own ends. The prince works hard to prevent him from achieving his designs. He moves around the kingdom incognito fighting for people's rights. During this time he meets and falls in love with a dancer (Padmini). The rival king's daughter Lalitha is also in love with him. The wily advisor (Veerappa) of the other king tries to work out things in his favor and marry the dancer. After many twists and turns, the villains are exposed and the princess sacrifices her love in favor of the dancer.

A man's betrayal and treachery in order to have a relationship with his friend's wife. Sivaji Ganesan prepares to commit suicide only to be saved by his friend M.G.Ramachandran. Sivaji then narrates his entire story to M.G.R where flashback reveal that Sivaji Ganesan falls in love with a girl but ironically he gets separated from her and thus he decided to kill himself. M.G.R consoles Sivaji and brings him to his house. There Sivaji is shocked when he learns M.G.R's wife is none other than his former lover. Initially Sivaji portrays himself to be a decent man but as days pass he begin to exhibit his sinister mind. Sivaji devices a plan to imprison M.G.R and does succeed. M.G.R's wife and his child, now estranged is compelled to rely upon Sivaji for their survival. Sivaji takes his ultimate step to lure and taunt M.G.R's wife which goes in vain. At last, Sivaji loses his vision after he is struck by a lightning and begs for forgiveness from M.G.R's wife. M.G.R is released from jail and unites with his family.

The film had Sivaji Ganesan playing a womanizer. T. P. Muthulakshmi played the role of a "dumb wife" married to a much older husband.Sivaji Ganesan seduces her in the absence of her husband and continues this act with other women.

A greedy man chases away the poor bride chosen by his son since she did not get the dowry that he demanded. While the girl is trapped in a deserted bungalow, her husband is married off to a rich girl.

Chandrasekaran, Gnanasekaran and Gunasekaran are three Indian immigrant brothers from Madurai, Tamil Nadu living in Rangoon, Burma. Their younger sister Kalyani was raised in their home town by their father Manickampillai. In 1942, during World War II, her marriage is arranged with a writer named Thangappan, and the brothers plan to visit Madurai to attend the wedding. Due to war conditions and bombardment of Burmese ports by Japan, the shipping company offers only one ticket and Gunasekaran, the youngest brother, takes it and leaves for Tamil Nadu. The ship however fails to reach on time due to the dangers of the war, and Kalyani's marriage takes place without any of her brothers present. Kalyani becomes pregnant. But on the day she delivers her child, Thangappan dies in an accident and Manickampillai dies of shock, leaving Kalyani and her child destitute. Her house gets auctioned off, and she makes her living by selling food on the streets. Gunasekaran, after being stranded at sea for several months, finally arrives in Tamil Nadu at Madras. However, while watching a dance performance, he is robbed of all his belongings after being intoxicated. Reduced to poverty, he becomes enraged at the status of the once glorious Tamil Nadu, and fakes insanity by indulging in numerous tricks to make a living. Gunasekaran finally comes across his destitute sister at Madurai, having learned of their father's death and her poverty. He continues to play insane and does not reveal his true identity to her due to his poverty, but hovers around her. Kalyani is irritated by the stranger's behaviour, unaware that he is her brother. Kalyani is nearly molested by a vagabond named Venu, but is saved by Gunasekaran. She later leaves Madurai and arrives at Tiruchi, where she obtains work as a maid of blackmarketeer Narayana Pillai, who also tries to molest her. She is, however, saved by his wife Kantha, and leaves the job. While searching for his sister, Gunasekaran reaches Tiruchi and comes across Vimala, a wealthy woman, to whom he explains the miserable status of him and his sister in the society. After resting in her house for a while, he silently leaves to continue searching for Kalyani. Meanwhile, as Japanese shelling intensifies in Burma, Chandrasekaran and Gnanasekaran decide to return to India. Chandrasekaran, accompanied by his wife Saraswati, reaches Tiruchi safely and becomes a judge, but Gnanasekaran is lost in the journey and loses a leg in the shelling before arriving in India. He begs for a living, forms an association for beggars and tries to reform them. Kalyani reaches Chandrasekaran's palatial house seeking food, but Chandrasekaran throws her out without recognising her. She later arrives at a temple seeking help, but the pujari (priest) also tries to molest her. Frustrated with life and unable to feed her child, Kalyani throws it into a river and attempts suicide, but is soon arrested for killing the child and brought for trial. At the court, Kalyani defends her act of infanticide with the judge being Chandrasekaran, who after hearing her tragic story realises she is his sister, and faints. Gunasekaran is also brought to the court for having attacked the priest who tried to molest his sister. During his trial, Gunasekaran explains the misfortunes which has befallen him and his family, and justifies his actions. Gunasekaran's valiant defence in court awakens everyone on the evils of the society. As the trial proceeds, Vimala arrives and produces Kalyani's child, which was revealed to have safely fallen in her boat instead of the river. Kalyani and Gunasekaran are pardoned and acquitted by the court, and are finally reunited with Chandrasekaran. Gnanasekaran, while collecting donations for his association of beggars, also joins them unexpectedly. With Vimala and Gunasekaran deciding to get married, the family subsequently inaugurates a welfare home for orphans.
