The movie focuses on the subject of marriage. It shows how with time the meaning of marriage has undergone changes and evolved. The film is narrated keeping in mind the viewpoint of four generations.

A family too given to dreaming comes to rely on their daughter-in-law, who steps up when the family needs a realist. The entire family of Bhau Kemkar lives on hope. They are so over-optimistic that they often disregard the hard reality of life. The family comprises of Bhau who is a bank manager, his school-teacher wife, an older son Vivek who works with an architect, younger son Sandeep who works in a finance company, college-going daughter Jui, Vivek's wife Rama (the daughter in law) and their little son. They are an extremely loving family and each member has big dreams for the other. Rama, however, is an exception to this. A typical Pune-Ite, she is free-spoken and practical. Although she is good at heart, it irritates her that her family members constantly build castles in the air. Her attempts to make them face reality fall in vain. One day, the family is faced with a severe crisis. At such a critical time, Rama sets her differences aside and stands like a rock behind the family. —Everest Entertainment

A group of young boys and girls grapple with moral issues in a changing world. The film speaks of society's unchanged outlook towards the women - especially rape victims - despite modernization, the movie centers around the rape of a college girl by an impostor cop. When the government announces quotas to increase women's political representation, Annasaheb, an MLA, for the last thirty years compels his intelligent daughter Vasudha to take over from him and continue so that nothing changes for him and his family. In due course of time Vasudha realizes that she is a mere puppet in the hands of her father and that she has no power as an MLA. Even when her wayward brother's atrocities increase, the family turns a blind eye. However, Sameer Shinde, Vasudha's college friend, opposes, and the family doesn't take it too kindly resulting in, Sameer being murdered. Life gets bitter when children take decisions for their aging parents. This is the story of Nanasaheb Date, who retires at the age of 60. Post retirement he realizes that he has missed out on simple pleasures of life while attending to household duties and work responsibilities. He decides to enjoy whatever has been left out; in whichever manner possible, with his wife. His content upper middle-class family comprises of his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Suddenly, his younger son is transferred to another town. The sons decide with their wives; that father should stay back with the elder son, while mother should accompany the younger son. Parents are disappointed with this decision of separation, but hesitate to say it openly. A family takes a person with disabilities under their wing and encourages him to develop his skills while the family members deal with their own instabilities. A happy family comprising of Rajan Ketkar, his wife Meenal and their daughter Rani reside in a society where Durgamaushi and her mentally deranged son Nandu stay. One day, Meenal realizes that Nandu is her childhood friend and she is filled with compassion for him which doesn't sit well with Rajan. For his benefit, Meenal admits Nandu into a rehabilitation center. The Ketkars visit the Centre for a function where Nandu upon seeing Meenal after a long time, gets restless and runs away. Durgamaushi is taken ill is hospitalized while Nandu roams the streets of Mumbai. After the police bring him home, Durgamaushi passes away. Nandu is now orphaned and he comes to Meenal for support. Rajan is not ready to accept him and objects strongly, but after noticing his innocence, agrees to adopt him. They encourage his interest in painting for which Nandu attains fame as an artist of international repute. —Everest Entertainment
