Maharaja Daljit of Jagmere is displeased after his envoy, Rana Sangram Singh, is humiliated by Maharaj Baktawar of Satnapur who rejects the marriage proposal of the former's daughter with his son. Enraged, he instructs everyone in his region to stop all celebrations and prepare for war, while Baktawar is certain that victory is within reach as no one can penetrate the labyrinth that surrounds his kingdom. Then the Rajkumari herself dons the guise of a dancer/singer, manages to find her way around the labyrinth and returns home with the map. Les Miiserables--originally French film later adapted to English. Unable to find employment, and unable to get any money by begging, young Kundan steals a loaf of bread from a bakery and runs to his house in the slums to feed his starving mother and niece, Radha. The police catch up with him, and he is arrested, tried in court, convicted, and sentenced to 2 years rigorous imprisonment. While in prison, he gets word that his mother is dead, and his niece is still starving and alone, and attempts to break out, but is caught and gets five years added to his sentence. He attempts to break out again, and this time he gets an additional 7 years in jail, bringing the total to 14 years. After 14 years, Kundan roams around a city, trying to find shelter and food, but finds that his prison career following him around in the shape and form of Inspector Sher Singh. Good fortune comes to Kundan, when he meets with Gurudev, a kind-hearted samaritan, who helps him financially. Kundan is well settled now, and the people in his town want him to be the Mayor, which he accepts. He also meets with his ill niece, but is unable to save her. She leaves behind a daughter named Uma. Sher Singh enters his life, and gets Kundan on the run. Kundan and Uma ultimately settle down again, and the years roll by. Uma grows up and meets a young man named Amrit, who is involved in the freedom struggle to get the British to quit India, and thus in trouble with the police. Sher Singh comes looking after for Amrit, but instead finds Kundan. Rajguru (Sohrab Modi) decides that Jhansi should get its proper recognition in history. He comes across a young girl Manu (the young Rani Lakshmibai) played by Baby Shikha. Her father has been hit by a carriage driven by an English driver. She gathers a few children to confront the driver. This and her confrontation with an elephant impresses the Rajguru who takes her in hand, shaping her into becoming a determined leader. He arranges for her, at the age of nine, to marry the much-older ruler of Jhansi, Gangadhar Rao (Mubarak), who is about fifty years, and become Queen. Manu grows up under the expert tutelage of the Rajguru, learning physical combat and political administration. The older Manu now called Lakshmibai gives birth to a boy who dies. She adopts another boy Damodar Rao who the English refuse to accept as the rightful heir. This further sets her against the British. During the uprising of 1857 (1857 Mutiny) she fights against them succumbing to her injuries in the end. —Cinephile

Thakur Jaspal Singh lives in the prestigious and palatial house called the Sheesh Mahal. He is badly in debt, yet continues to live a lifestyle far over and above his means. His son and two daughters are concerned, and try to stop him from over-spending, but he disregards them. Then one day the inevitable happens, and Jaspal Singh has to leave Sheesh Mahal, which must now be sold by auction to pay off his debts. Jaspal and his children move into a small room in the nearby slums, where they hope to spend the rest of their lives. Jaspal's son finds employment in a mill, but unfortunately meets with an accident, and in order to save his life, the doctors amputate his leg, leaving his unemployed and dependent. Jaspal's daughter, Ranjana, attempts to secure employment, but proud Jaspal will not hear of this. Ranjana gets employment, but she does not tell her father about it. Ranjana meets with a young man and both fall in love with each other. When this young man's father, Durgaprasad, comes to ask Jaspal for Ranjana's hand, Jaspal finds out that he is the new owner of Sheesh Mahal, and that Ranjana has been working as a maid there. Jaspal is furious, and taking his sword, he rushes over to the Sheesh Mahal with a clear intend of killing Ranjana, and anyone else who dares to stop him. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

Talip and his sister, Mrinalvati, of a neighboring kingdom imprison Prithvi Vallabh, the kind king of Avantipur. King Munja (Sohrab Modi), ruler of Avantipur; is a famed warrior and patron of arts. Munja falls into the hands of his arch enemy Tailangan king Tailap (Sankatha Prasad), who received assistance from Bhillamraj (K.N.Singh), the king of Dharavati. Tailap orders that Munja be put to death but is held back by Tailap's powerful sister Mrinalvati (Durga Khote), a widow who first wants to break Munja's spirit but falls in love with him. Learning of Munja's plan to escape with Mrinalvati, Tailap has Munja trampled to death by his elephants. Mrinalvati opts to die with Munja. —Vinod Arya

A love affair and two feuding families who play out a Romeo and Juliet type drama in 17th century India, under the Emperor Jehangir. Set at the court of the harsh Mughhal Emperor Jehangir (Chandramohan), the film tells two separate love stories: the first of Mangal Singh (Ali) and Kanwar (Sheela) amid the violent feud raging between their families, and the second, the famous one of Jehangir and Nurjehan (Banu). Mangal kills the brother and father of his lover. His father, the loyal Rajput chieftain Sangram Singh (Modi), captures his son and Jehangir passes the death sentence. Jehangir's claim that the law knows no class distinction is put on the test when a washerwoman (Akhtar) accuses Queen Nurjehan of having inadvertently killed her husband during a hunt. Jehangir offers his own life but the washerwoman magnanimously forgives him. —Sujit R. Varma The only son of Sardar Sangram Singh, Mangal, is provoked into a fight with two men, which he accepts and wins, killing the two challengers. The families of the deceased young men approach Shahenshah Jehangir for justice, and Sangram Singh, trusting the justice of his employer, entrusts his son to the justice of his majesty. Jehangir makes it clear that his law is clear and there are no exceptions, and he orders the execution of Mangal, ignoring the pleas of Sangram Singh. Then a woman, who husband has been killed, rings the bell for justice. Jehangir appears to hear this matter, and he is told that this woman's husband has been killed by an arrow, but the woman is hesitant to name the killer for fear of repurcussion. Jehangir, however, assures her that there will no repercussions, and she names the killer as his queen, Noor Jahan. This throws Jehangir into a quandry, as now he will have to apply the same law as he has been governing others with namely: "A life for a life". —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) A woman, whose husband has been mysteriously killed attempts to seek justice, her pleas for justice leads her to his majesty Sardar Sangram Singh mansion. She begins to exclaim her problems to Sardar and in her claims was that her husband has been killed by an arrow. This kind of conflicts leads Sardar to question his biological son, Mangal whose mope and his involvement in a violent fight might have lead to this kind of conflict. But what Sardar does not know is that his very own queen, Noor Jahan has had an involvement in this case. What will he do when he finds this out?
