Aditya, a young Maharashtrian from London who aims to open a Maharashtrian gourmet restaurant in the city, comes to Pune to find someone who would help him learn traditional cooking styles. In his pursuit, he meets Radha, an eccentric woman who makes lunch boxes for the students and working men in the area. Radha agrees to teach him on the condition that he passes her tests. But, once she starts teaching him, a new path of life opens for Aditya. Gulabjaam is a food film, where Maharashtrian food is one of the important characters.

Anirudh Godbole and Naina are a contemporary upwardly mobile middle-class Maharashtrian couple. They stay with their 2 daughters in a comfortable flat in suburban Mumbai. Anirudh has a well-paid job in a corporate firm and Naina is a rising singer. They invite few of their close friends over dinner to celebrate the release of Nainaís music album.
