Each evening on his commute home through Chicago, John sees a beautiful woman staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Haunted by her gaze, John impulsively jumps off the train one night, and signs up for ballroom dancing lessons, hoping to meet her. As John enters the dance studio, he is greeted by Paulina, who registers him as a single student, with classes at $45 per hour, which drops to $40 per hour, if a 8 class package is chosen. John is signed up for a group that meets every Wednesday at 7:30 PM for 8 weeks. At first, it seems like a mistake. His teacher turns out to be not Paulina (Jennifer Lopez), but the older Miss Mitzi (Anita Gillette), and John proves to be just as clumsy as his equally clueless classmates Chic (Bobby Cannavale) and Vern (Omar Miller) on the dance-floor. Chich admits that he has come to the dance studio to pick up dates. The guys were supposed to be paired with women who had also signed up for the same class, but the women leave after taking one look at the 3 guys. This leaves the men alone with Mitzi. Mitzi ends up using may props on the dance floor to teach the basics of ballroom dancing to the 3 men. Meanwhile Paulina practices her routine with her partner Francesco in a different room at the studio. Vern reveals that he is soon getting married and he took up ballroom dancing to surprise his fiance and also to lose 3 pounds. Bobbie is the only female at the studio, who comes in as Mitzi allows her to practice anytime she wants. Bobbie tells the guys that all the women attend a competitor dance studio, which is considered hip and more glamorous. Bobbie aims to compete at Chicago's biggest ballroom dancing competition and is looking for a partner. Bobbie tells the guys that Paulina competed and lost at Black Pool, an England dance competition that attracts the best dancers from all over the world. She competed with her partner and lover, who ended up dumping her. Thats when Paulina felt lost and came back to the US and became a teacher with Mitzi. As the classes progress, John finds himself attracted to the mysterious Paulina. This also means that John is late coming home once every week. Jenna notes that John seems happier than usual and points it out to Beverly. Beverly finds that her colleague's husband is having an affair and suspects that John is having one too. Even worse, when John does meet Paulina, she icily tells John she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. John finds that his office colleague Link has also joined the dance class. At office, Link is bald and boring and yet he is an expert at Latin dances and has long luscious hair (on account of a wig) at the dance class. Link says that he is passionate about dancing and was mistaken for being gay all his life. Link says that his dream is to be able to dance under his own name for the whole world to see. But, as his lessons continue, John falls in love with dancing. Keeping his new obsession from his family and co-workers, John feverishly trains for Chicago's biggest dance competition. His friendship with Paulina blossoms, as his enthusiasm rekindles her own lost passion for dance. But the more time John spends away from home, the more his wife Beverly becomes suspicious. She hires a private investigator to find out what John is doing, but when she finds out the truth, she chooses to discontinue the investigation and not invade her husband's privacy. John is partnered with Bobbie (Lisa Ann Walter) for the competition, although his friend Link (Stanley Tucci) steps in to do the Latin dances. Link and Bobbie do well in the Latin dances, and while John and Bobbie's waltz goes well, John hears his wife and daughter in the crowd during the quickstep, and is distracted by trying to find them. He and Bobbie fall and are disqualified, and John and Beverly argue in the parking structure. John quits dancing, to everyone's dismay. Paulina, having been inspired by John to take up competing again, is leaving to go to Europe, and is having a going-away party at the dance studio. She sends John an invitation, but he's not convinced to go until his wife leaves out a pair of dancing shoes that she bought him. He goes and meets Beverly at work, convinces her that while he loves dancing, he still loves her just as much, and they dance. They go to the party and John and Paulina have one last dance before she leaves. The end scene shows everyone afterwards: Link and Bobbie are now together. Chic, who was actually gay, dances at a club with his partner. Miss Mitzi finds a new partner, and they are happy together. John and Beverly are back to normal and dance in the kitchen. Vern, newly married to his fiance, dances with her at their wedding. The private investigator that Beverly hired, Devine (Richard Jenkins), starts up dance lessons and Paulina, with a new partner, competes at Blackpool, the competition that she had lost years before.

Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a single mother trying to get by with her young son Tyler (Tyler Posey) by working as a maid at the Beresford Hotel in the heart of Manhattan. When not in school, Tyler spends time among Marisa's fellow hotel workers who think she is capable of being promoted to management. At school, Tyler has to give a speech about his chosen topic of Richard Nixon for his project. Marisa is separated from her husband Marcus, and they shared custody of Tyler. Marcus had a reputation for being late and Tyler is worried that he would miss his entire speech. Marisa drops Tyler at school in the morning, before heading directly to work. Paula Burns (Frances Conroy) is the head of the maid staff, who teaches under trainees that a Beresford maid is supposed to be expedient, considerate and above all, invisible. The original assistant manager of the maid team is promoted, hence opening a slot for a potential promotion and Marisa is the strongest candidate. John Bextrum (Chris Eigeman) represents senior management and he announces that the position will be filled internally. Bextrum says that any staff who has been with the hotel for three consecutive years is eligible to apply. The Beresford Hotel caters to the rich and famous and hence prides itself on being discreet and providing iron clad privacy to its guests. Caroline Lane is the director of Sotheby's and had shifted over from the Four Seasons after breaking up her engagement. Marisa had overheard Caroline talking to her friend on the phone that she got her assistance on purpose to leak her calendar to her ex-fiance and added a few meetings with him to make him jealous. Marisa was cleaning Caroline's room when she unpacks two dresses from Dolce & Gabbana that she had delivered to her hotel suite. Caroline asks Marisa to buy her three pairs of pantyhose. Marisa obliges her guest but has to scramble to fulfill Caroline's request while completing all her other tasks as she wanted to be on time for Tyler's speech at his school for which she had taken time off at 3 pm. The speech is at 4 pm and Marcus calls Marisa at 3:40 to inform her that he is in Miami and cannot be there for Tyler. Tyler's confidence is shot when he cannot see his father in the audience, and he messes up his entire speech. Tyler leaves the stage on account of the embarrassment. To cheer up Tyler, Marisa offers that he can come with her to the hotel for the entire weekend. Marisa then takes Tyler with her back to the hotel for the evening. Tyler is still feeling very depressed over his school project. While Marisa and fellow maid Stephanie Kehoe (Marissa Matrone) are cleaning the room of a socialite, Stephanie convinces Marisa to try on an expensive Dolce & Gabbana dress and coat worth $5000. The guest, Caroline Lane (Natasha Richardson), had previously asked for it to be returned to the store and Stephanie argues that it "technically" doesn't belong to anyone at the moment. Elsewhere in the hotel, Tyler befriends hotel guest and senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes). Tyler meets Chris in the hotel elevator and says that he knows about his voting record and his stand on environmental issues. Chris is a Republican. Tyler learns that Chris has an interest in Richard Nixon, the subject of his school presentation. Christopher is a Congressman who recently broke up his engagement with a socialite before arriving in Manhattan for his campaign tour. The press labels him as a playboy. Tyler wants to go with Chris to walk his dog and the pair go to Caroline Lane's room to ask Marisa for permission. Chris meets Marisa who is wearing the designer coat and is instantly smitten with her. Of course, he assumes that she is Caroline Lane. The trio spend some time together in the park. Though Marisa and Chris are attracted to each other, Marisa is terrified that management will find out about the ruse and makes it a point to avoid Chris afterwards. Chris asks the hotel's head butler Lionel Bloch (Bob Hoskins) to invite "Caroline Lane" to lunch but he is confused when the real Caroline shows up instead of Marisa. Ironically, Marisa was present when she received the invitation and even offered Caroline some advice on what to wear for their "lunch a deux". However, when the real Caroline shows up, Chris asks his assistant Jerry Siegal (Stanley Tucci) to find "the other Caroline Lane" promising that he will attend an important dinner and wishes her go with him. Jerry asks Lionel to find her. Lionel has figured out that Marisa is the woman Chris has been looking for, and orders her to go to the dinner and end the affair swiftly if she wants to keep her possible future in hotel management. He and the hotel staff assist her in preparing for the evening by styling her hair, loaning her an expensive dress, and a spectacular necklace. However, Marisa is unable to end the affair, and she spends the night in Chris' hotel room. The next morning, Marisa is spotted by the real Caroline Lane and her friend leaving Chris' room. Caroline blurts out the truth to the hotel management, and Marisa is fired directly before Chris in Lane's hotel suite. Both Marisa and Chris spend some time apart, with him still thinking about her. Marisa is also hounded by the press and her disapproving classicist mother Veronica (Priscilla Lopez). Some time later, Marisa has secured another job as a maid at another hotel. Chris is giving a press conference in the same hotel and Tyler attends it and asks Chris whether people should be forgiven if they make mistakes referencing former President Richard Nixon. Tyler leads him to the staff room, where Marisa is having her break. Chris and Marisa are reunited, and the film ends with images of publications showing that Chris has been elected, he and Marisa are still together after one year. Marisa has founded her own hospitality business, and Marisa's maid friends have been promoted to management.

Veteran publicist Lee Phillips (Billy Crystal) is fired from his position at a major film studio. Studio head Dave Kingman (Stanley Tucci) later invites him back for a private screening of Time Over Time, a new time travel thriller starring Gwen Harrison (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Eddie Thomas (John Cusack). Eddie and Gwen were a beloved husband-and-wife team dubbed "America's Sweethearts". Eddie and Gwen have starred in many romantic movies together and the audience loves them as an on-screen couple. They did 6 movies together which made over a $100 million at the box office. Their marriage fell apart when Gwen had an affair with her co-star Hector (Hank Azaria), causing Eddie to suffer a mental breakdown and check into a remote New Age wellness retreat. Eddie is traumatized by the fact that Gwen takes Hector to all the places that were their favorites when they were a couple. Eddie has been locked up in there for 6.5 months, and has been separated from Gwen for over a year and a half. When Lee arrives, Kingman reveals he has nothing to screen: the movie's director, Hal Weidmann (Christopher Walken), is refusing to release the completed film, insisting on premiering it at the upcoming press junket. Weidmann is a 3-time Oscar winning director, and hence cannot be pressured into doing what Kingman wants. Kingman is desperate to get hold of it, as the studio has recently suffered a string of flops (and hasn't had a hit in over 2 years) and Time Over Time is likely the couple's last film together. Kingman has already invested $86 million into the movie and wants it to be a hit to recover his costs. Unsure when, or even if, the film will arrive, Kingman begs Lee to promote it at the junket by convincing the press that Eddie and Gwen are back together, promising to restore Lee's job if he succeeds. Lee recruits rookie publicist Danny (Seth Green) to assist him. They move the event from Four Seasons hotel to the new Hyatt opening in the middle of the desert, with nothing around for several miles. The whole press junket is designed to keep the press entertained and away from the thought of actually watching the movie and reviewing it. Gwen is also under pressure as she knows that her last 2 movies which she did without Eddie, crashed and burned at the box office. Lee visits Gwen, who now resides with Hector, to persuade her to attend the junket. Kathleen "Kiki" Harrison (Julia Roberts), Gwen's sister and personal assistant, convinces her that a junket appearance will help her floundering career and public image. Kiki is overshadowed by Gwen and is treated by her like dirt. Gwen is livid whenever Kiki gets even a little bit of attention from anyone. Kiki was recently overweight and has lost 60 pounds. Hector invites himself to the junket over Eddie's protests. At the wellness retreat, Lee bribes its spiritual guru (Alan Arkin) with a luxury car to convince a reluctant Eddie to face Gwen. At the junket, Gwen cozies up to Eddie for the press, while behind the scenes their interactions remain tense. Eddie goes over to spy on Gwen at her cottage and ends up falling on a cactus. While removing the thorns, he is caught on camera, and it looks like he was masturbating. Lee makes sure that the tape is released to the media for publicity. Eddie pines for her initially but soon tires of her duplicitous nature. Gwen uses Kiki as her go-between with Eddie, unaware she has feelings for him. Kiki remembers that one night after Gwen and Eddie broke up, he got drunk and kissed Kiki. While Kiki remembers the incident fondly, Eddie simply believes that he took advantage of Kiki and views her as a good friend. To distract the press until the film arrives, Lee and Danny plant clues that Eddie and Gwen have reconciled. After Lee leaks a misleading photo of them to the media, Hector shows up and confronts Eddie, leading to a fist fight that ends when Hector knocks him out with a serving tray. Kingman is thrilled with the publicity, but a guilt-ridden Lee starts to question his tactics. Kiki helps Eddie to his room, where they give into their growing attraction and have sex. However, at Gwen's cottage the next morning, Eddie tells Gwen he is "not technically" seeing anyone, causing Kiki to storm off in disgust. Eddie goes after Kiki, who lambastes him for his inability to move on from Gwen. Kiki later laments to Lee about a lifetime of coming second to Gwen, while Eddie has an epiphany and realizes Kiki is who he truly wants. Lee, deducing that Eddie and Kiki are in love, encourages him not to give up, but just then, Weidmann arrives in a helicopter to deliver the film. At the screening, Weidmann shocks everyone by revealing that he abandoned the original script and used hidden camera footage, without the actors' knowledge, to create a "reality movie" instead. The new film follows Gwen's affair with Hector and Eddie's resulting mental decline; highlights include Gwen's demanding behavior on set, Kingman being insulted by his assistant, and Gwen mocking Hector's penis size. Gwen and Kingman confront Weidmann, who defends his artistic vision, while Hector assures the crowd that he is well-endowed (which Weidmann's daughter is happy to confirm). Desperate, Gwen announces that she and Eddie are getting back together, but he rebuffs her and publicly declares his love for Kiki. Kiki decides to stop putting her sister's desires ahead of her own, and a humiliated Gwen fires her and flounces off. Kiki and Eddie then kiss as the audience applauds. In the aftermath, Weidmann's movie becomes a hit, and Lee resumes his studio job to promote it. Gwen admits to the press that the reconciliation was a lie, blaming her erratic behavior on pain medication before departing with Hector. Eddie and Kiki decide to pursue a relationship, and with Lee's blessing, they leave together to travel.

New Jersey, 1950s. Two brothers run an Italian restaurant. Business is not going well as a rival Italian restaurant is out-competing them. In a final effort to save the restaurant, the brothers plan to put on an evening of incredible food. Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. Primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect. Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few patrons other than a poor artist who pays with his paintings. The owner of the nearby Pascal's restaurant, enormously successful (despite its mediocre fare), offers a solution, he will call his friend, a big-time jazz musician, to play a special benefit at their restaurant. Primo begins to prepare his masterpiece, a feast of a lifetime, for the brothers' big night.

Before this happens he gets a letter summoning him to jury duty, which he initially throws away, but when he finds his only other option is to stay with some rather questionable relatives, he retrieves it and heads to jury duty. He makes it a point to get out of any trial that will be over quickly, then gets assigned to a murder trial which might take a few days. Even being sequestered into a dated hotel room in a historical wing that is being remodeled isn't so bad...until be finds he's rooming with his former high school principal...who likes to sleep to motivational cassettes cranked up full blast. In a desperate move, he manages to get down to the front desk and beg to be moved. Since business is slipping badly at the hotel, the manager makes a deal to use him as a marketing tool, and put him in a luxurious penthouse suite as compensation. All is well for him now. The trial is for a guy who is accused of murdering a number of people at a fast food restaurant, and he looks rather psychotic as well. This makes it seem to be an automatic slam dunk to all of the jurors. However, in fear of having nowhere else to go and of losing his pampered lifestyle, Tommy starts stalling and prolonging the deliberations by continuously going over the evidence. He ends up showing the case in a whole new light, and actually ends up changing the minds of his fellow jurors. Just when he finally won the respect and admiration from them, and they are about to find the defendant not guilty, his secret is found out by not just any juror, but a girl he has been infatuated with since day one. Charlie only wanted to help the community and never shied away from helping where he could (helping a blind man cross the street, teaching kids how to play baseball, catching petty thieves, delivering a baby on the public bus and so on) His wife Muriel (Rosie Perez) works in a hairdressing salon and, unlike Charlie, is selfish, greedy and materialistic, constantly complaining about their situation in life. Muriel hated Queens. Waitress Yvonne Biasi (Bridget Fonda) is bankrupt because her husband Eddie (Stanley Tucci), whom she could not yet afford to divorce, emptied their joint checking account and spent all the money without her permission, while also leaving her with a credit card debt of over $12,000. The court holds her responsible for the entire bill; moreover, Yvonne's boss docks her pay for the time she spent in court, even though Yvonne gave ample notice. Charlie meets Yvonne when she waits on him at the diner where she works. Since Charlie has cash to cover the bill but doesn't have enough money to pay the tip. So, he promises to give her either double the tip or half of his prospective lottery winnings the next day. Yvonne is sure that she will never see Charlie again in her life. Charlie wins a $4 million share of $64 million (in 21 annual payments) in the lottery the next day (as 16 other people picked the same numbers) and keeps his promise, despite the protests of his wife. Muriel sees this as an opportunity to become a spokesperson for her favorite beauty products. Muriel asks Charlie to do the right thing for them, but he is adamant that he gave Yvonne his word. Charlie returns to the diner and asks Yvonne to choose if she wants double the tip or half of the lottery (without telling her that he won the lottery). Yvonne goes for the split of the lottery and Charlie reveals that it is $4 million. Yvonne believes that Charlie is making fun of her string of bad luck, but he convinces her that they won $4 million in the New York State Lottery. For Charlie, a promise is a promise. Charlie and Yvonne become stars almost immediately. Yvonne buys the diner she was working in and promptly fires her ex-boss. She sets up a table with Charlie's name at which people who cannot afford food can eat for free. In another development, Charlie becomes a hero for foiling an attempted robbery at a grocery store but gets wounded in the process. Following a commendation, he takes mandatory leave from the NYPD. At a gathering on a chartered boat for the lottery winners and other members of high society, Muriel gets to know the newly rich Jack Gross (Seymour Cassel). She flirts with him and develops a strong liking for him, which is mutual. Both Yvonne and Charlie miss the cruise because he had to go and make change for her taxi driver and bond over dinner. Meanwhile, Charlie and Yvonne spend a lot of time together, on one occasion paying for the train journeys of passengers of the subway, and on another treating the children of his neighborhood to a day out at Yankee Stadium, about which there is a media report. Muriel gets fed up with Charlie's constant donations and overall simplicity and throws him out of their apartment, asking for a divorce. That same evening, Yvonne leaves her apartment after her husband shows up and threatens to stay until he gets $50,000 from her. Quite innocently, Charlie and Yvonne run into each other at the Plaza Hotel and, unintentionally, end up spending the night together. During divorce proceedings between Muriel and Charlie, Muriel demands all the money that Charlie won for herself. Charlie doesn't mind giving his share of the money but Muriel also wants the money he gave Yvonne, and Charlie's steadfast unwillingness to do so causes Muriel to take the case to court. The jury decides in her favor. Yvonne, feeling guilty at costing Charlie all his money, runs out of court in tears and tries to keep away from him. But the cop, by now hopelessly in love with the waitress, finds her at the diner and tells her that the money means nothing to him, and they declare their love for each other. While ruminating about their future at the diner and considering a possible move to Buffalo, they are gracious enough to provide a hungry and poor customer some soup, which he eats at the Charlie Lang Table. The poor customer is none other than the disguised undercover photojournalist Angel Dupree (Isaac Hayes), who takes photos of the couple and in the next day's newspapers publicly eulogies their willingness to feed a hungry and poor man even in their darkest hour. Just as Charlie and Yvonne are moving out of town, the citizens of New York City, no doubt touched by the generosity of the couple, send "the cop and the waitress" thousands of letters with tips totaling over $600,000, enough to help pay their debts. After Muriel gets remarried, her new husband Jack Gross flees the country with all the money from their checking account, revealing himself to be a con man. She then has no option but to move in with her mother in the Bronx and go back to her old manicure job. Eddie Biasi, now divorced from Yvonne, ends up becoming a taxi driver. Charlie happily returns to the police force and Yvonne reclaims the diner. At the film's end, Charlie and Yvonne get married and begin their honeymoon by taking off from Central Park in a hot air balloon that bears the New York Post headline "Cop Weds Waitress".

A law student`s theory about the deaths of two Supreme Court justices embroils her in a web of greed, corruption and murder that goes to the top of the United States government.

A group of puppies are stolen from a pet store by two thieves. A St. Bernard puppy escapes and sneaks into the Newton family's home. The workaholic father, George Newton, doesn't want the responsibility of owning a dog, but his wife, Alice, and their children, Ryce, Ted, and Emily, convince him. They give him the name "Beethoven" when Emily plays a portion of Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth Symphony on the piano and the dog barks along to it. Beethoven grows into an extremely fat adult dog and helps the children overcome their problems: he helps Ryce talk to her crush, scares off bullies for Ted, and saves Emily's life when she falls into an irresponsible babysitter's swimming pool. George, jealous of the affection Beethoven receives, feels neglected as his family fawns over him. His antics ruin a barbecue he is hosting for Brad and Brie, rude, unpleasant venture capitalists looking to invest in and secretly swindle him out of his car freshener firm. The Newtons take Beethoven to a veterinarian, Dr. Herman Varnick, for a routine medical examination and immunizations. They are unaware that he is involved in unethical and deadly animal experimentation. He speaks to George and tells him of a supposed mental instability among St. Bernards making them potentially dangerous to humans and advises him to watch Beethoven closely for any sign of viciousness. He actually requires large-skulled dogs such as St. Bernards for an ammunition test. Dr. Varnick visits the Newton home under the guise of doing a follow-up exam on Beethoven. He puts fake blood on his arm and hits Beethoven until he leaps on him. He pretends to be in agony, warning George that Beethoven may be turning aggressive and must be euthanized or he will have no choice but to press charges. Emily, who saw Dr. Varnick hit him, protests that the attack was fake, but George, fearing for his family's safety, reluctantly takes him to Dr. Varnick's office. It is on the way there that George discovers his own affections for him: he remembers his father had to take their dog to the vet to be euthanized and he never forgave him for it. He fears that his own family will hate him now for taking Beethoven to be euthanized. When he returns home with the empty leash and collar, his family leaves the dinner table rather than remain with him. After recognizing the children's sadness and having a conversation with Alice, the Newtons go to Dr. Varnick's office, but he lies and claims that Beethoven has already been euthanized. George notices that Dr. Varnick has no bite marks on his arm and punches him. The Newtons follow him to his warehouse. Beethoven breaks free but is recaptured by Dr. Varnick's two associates, Harvey and Vernon, while Alice calls the police. George crashes through the skylight just as Dr. Varnick prepares to shoot Beethoven. Before he can, a captive Jack Russell Terrier bites him in the crotch, causing him to fire a shot in the air. After hearing the gunshot, Ted drives the car through the door and runs it into a cart, launching numerous syringes into Dr. Varnick and sedating him. As the Newtons reunite with Beethoven and free all the captive dogs, they notice Harvey and Vernon trying to escape and send the dogs after them. They escape into a junkyard, only to be attacked by a pack of Dobermans guarding it. Dr. Varnick, Harvey, and Vernon are arrested for animal abuse. The Newtons are praised as heroes by the news and George takes a new liking to Beethoven. Ryce also gets a phone call from her crush. The Newtons then go to sleep, saying good night to Beethoven and all of the dogs they rescued, who are all sleeping in their bedroom.

A paralyzed man's friend gives him a smart monkey. The athletic law student Allan Mann is running on the street when a dog attacks him, and he is hit by a truck. He becomes quadriplegic and his house is adapted to his new way of life with a nurse helping him. After a few days, he tries to commit suicide. His best friend, scientist Geoffrey Fisher, is performing genetic experiments with monkeys and looks for Melanie Parker, who trains monkeys for disabled people. He offers his best monkey, Ella, to be trained to help Allan. Soon Melanie delivers Ella to Allan and his life changes for better. However, Geoffrey continues to inject Ella with his experimental drug, and she establishes a dangerous mental connection with Allan and he believes Ella is capable of killing those that Allan hate. —Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil When Allan becomes a quadriplegic he loses all hope for living until he meets Ella - a monkey trained to fetch and carry for him around the house, obeying him in all things.
