His men are afraid that cop Namdev Mane (Suniel Shetty) might intercept the diamonds, which will bankrupt Carlos. Sania Badnaam (Celina Jaitly) is Carlos's girlfriend and is smuggling the diamonds out of India for him. Carlos instructs Sania to transfer the diamonds to Mumbai by train. The call is intercepted by Namdev. 4 years ago, Namdev led a raid on suspected Brown sugar warehouse in Mumbai, but it turned out to be a consignment of bras. Namdev was demoted and his reputation was ruined. 6 Alvares House in Bandra, Mumbai, is the residence of myopic, widowed, devout Hindu, Satyabol Shastri (Anupam Kher), who lives there with his daughter, Shivani (Riya Sen) (who is a simple girl from a Brahmin family). Shivani is in love with her Christian neighbor, Arjun Fernandes (Shreyas Talpade), who is a mechanic and lives with his Wanna-be singer sister, Julie (Koena Mitra) (a bar dancer with quite a reputation, but behind her raunchy exterior is a compassionate, kind woman who goes out of her way to help the needy), and a younger ailing sister, Titli (who has a hole in her heart which can only be fixed by an expensive surgery). Satyabol disapproves of Arjun and wants his daughter to marry Sarju Maharaj Banaraswale's (Sanjay Mishra) son. Satyabol has not seen Sarju or his son, and this match has been arranged by the local priest, who is a friend of Satyabol. Other than Satyabol chasing Badshah, the pet dog of Arjun, and ending up in the women's bathroom, the area is fairly peaceful. Then Arjun and his friends try to think of a plan to stop Sarju from marrying his son to Shivani but can't. So, Arjun calls his best friend Kishan (Ritesh Deshmukh) to help them. Kishan is a conman in Goa who has duped many Gurkhas led by Rana Jang Bahadur (Chunky Pandey), by getting them to invest in his scam chit fund. Rana has vowed to pursue Kishan and get the money back to the poor Gurkhas. Kishan escapes by train and it is the same train in which Sania is bringing the diamonds to Mumbai. On the train Kishan by chance runs into Sarju Maharaj, whom he remembers as the guy who is coming to meet Satyabol daughter for a possible marriage with his son. Kishan convinces Sarju to get down from the train to get water. He also encourages Sarju to say that he is "Kishan's" uncle, as he had seen Rana on the platform. Sarju gets down and is apprehended by Rana, who wants his revenge against Kishan. Kishan comes disguised as Sarju Maharaj Banaraswale. On the train Sania sees Namdev pursuing her. She has the diamonds hidden in the sole of her sandals and puts the same in Kishan's bag. Namdev arrests Sania, even though he can't find the Diamonds in her luggage. Sania is released from custody, but Namdev abducts her illegally. Carlos gets info that Sania has been abducted and suspects Sania of double crossing her. Namdev wants Sania to help him get the diamonds and offers her a 50% cut as well. Sania takes the offer. Meanwhile, Kishan (as Sarju) gifts the sandals that he finds in Sarju's luggage to Shivani. Fake Sarju then convinces Satyabol that his (Sarju's) son is not good for his (Shashtri's) daughter by dancing in the bar and kissing Julie who was in the act. Then Shashtri informs the fake Sarju that he does not want to marry his daughter to Sarju's son and that he can go now. So having finished his mission, Kishan prepares to leave when Arjun tells him to stay back as he loves Julie, but Kishan refuses to say that he is not destined for Julie. Then after Arjun leaves and Rana turns up with the real Sarju at the railway station and identifies Kishan. Kishan says that all the cash is with Sarju they leave Kishan and run after Sarju while Kishan escapes. Kishan disguises himself as a woman named Sunaina and says 'she' is Arjun's auntie. Soon, Shastri falls in love with Sunaina, and calls her "Sania". Sunaina distracts Shastri and allows Shivani to meet Arjun in private. Meanwhile Kishan uses the opportunity to get close to Julie and makes her fall in love with him. Sunaina's sandal breaks and Shastri gifts her the sandals that Kishan (as Sarju) had gifted to Shivani. Then in the neighborhood also comes Matha Prasad (Rajpal Yadav) who runs a dairy farm and moonlights as the hit-man of Carlos. Matha hears Shastri refer to Sunaina as "Sania" and abducts her, as per instructions from Carlos. Then Rana arrives, followed by Namdev and Sania. Namdev arrests Rana and asks him to take them to Sarju (Since Sania said the bag is with Sarju). When they get there, Sania says that that's not the Sarju, who has the diamonds. Namdev and Sania figure out that Kishan is the fake Sarju and go after him. Rana figures out that Kishan has Rs 50 Crores worth of diamonds. He steals Sania's phone and calls Carlos directly. Rana says he has Sania in his custody. Matha and Rana both ask Carlos for Rs 50 Lakhs in exchange for returning Sania. Meanwhile Kishan escapes from Matha and reaches back where Arjun and Shastri have found the Sarju's bag. But Maane arrives with Sania and takes the bag at gunpoint. Kishan/Sunaina reveals that the bag had 50 Crores worth of diamonds. Now Sania and Namdev realize that the bag is empty, but Rana arrives and abducts Sania. Arjun tells Shivani that Sunaina is in fact Kishan. Meanwhile Shastri agrees to marry Shivani to Arjun if Sunaina agrees to marry him. Namdev tracks down Kishan and they all figure out that the diamonds are hidden in the sandals on Kishan's feet. Rana takes Sania to Carlos, who says that the diamonds are with Kishan. Carlos attacks the Bandra location with full force. Carlos forces Kishan to have over the sandal to him, but chaos ensues as Kishan throws the sandal as Carlos and everybody leaps at it. Carlos is eventually arrested by the police. Kishan reveals that he had stolen 1 diamond before handing over the sandal. The gang sells the diamond to pay for Titl's surgery.

Mangal (Suniel Shetty) is the head of the family, even though he is the son of Prabhat's elder brother. Shruti is Mangal's sister. Shruti is dumb and is hence sympathetic towards Jeetu. Instead of keeping his secret a secret, they want to do something else. Shruti's marriage is arranged in a house which is only greedy for money. The boy's family has for 2 companies and a lot of land as dowry in exchange for marriage with Shruti. Mangal suspects Jeetu of sabotaging the proposal and beats him senseless. But Prabhat intervenes and tells Mangal that even Jeetu is deaf and dumb and hence could not have called the boy's family. Mangal gives Jeetu a job for Rs 20,000 per month. Meenakshi wants Jeetu to leave the house, but Jeetu also refuses and says that he will reveal that Meenakshi was behind the plot to break Shruti's wedding. One day, Sharma comes to meet Prabhat and Meenakshi sees Jeetu hiding from him. Meenakshi learns that Jeetu has a lot of debt and can do anything for money. Meenakshi gets Jeetu's photo from Sharma and realizes that this is the same Kanhaiya who has been living in their house. Before Meenakshi can say anything to Prabhat, Jeetu and Prabhat go by car with a lot of money and meet with a road accident. Due to both of them not returning, they feel as if Jeetu has done something. On Meenakshi's request, the police catch Jeetu and beat him thoroughly. Prabhat returns home and tells that his car met with an accident, after which Jeetu took him to the hospital and after giving the money to the person to whom he was supposed to pay, he went to get the medicine, but did not return. Knowing this they all feel regretful. Meenakshi and Shruti know that Prabhat has been stealing money from Mangal to run his own businesses which are all making losses. In fact, the money that Sharma loaned Jeetu, belonged to Prabhat. They threaten to reveal the truth to Mangal and Prabhat is very afraid of Mangal. Meenakshi and Shruti force Prabhat to give them Rs 13.9 Lakhs and send the money to Jeetu's village through the hands of Bandya. When Bandya meets Mohan, he realizes that Kanhaiya is really Jeetu and is neither deaf nor dumb. Bandya comes and tells that Pooja has got married, hearing which Jeetu becomes happy. Jeetu still won't go back to the village as he knows that Pooja only married someone else believing the Jeetu is dead. Seeing him alive would make Pooja feel very guilty. But in reality, Pooja was living with Jai Dev as Jeetu's widow. Meanwhile, Shruti expresses her love to Jeetu. Mangal learns that Shruti is in love with Jeetu and decides to get them married. Jeetu, now free from debt and in love with Shruti, agrees to the marriage. Jeetu reveals to Mangal that he is not deaf or dumb and assures him that Shruti knew of his reality, and he never betrayed her trust. Meanwhile, Jeetu's family members come to know that Jeetu is alive, when Mangal sends them money via Bandya and Gundiya. Jai Dev goes to meet Jeetu on the day of the wedding, and Jeetu is shocked to learn that Pooja never married anyone else and is living as his widow. He cannot explain anything to Jai Dev as Prabhat pulls him inside the house. Later, Jeetu explains everything to Shruti and goes home to get Pooja's permission to marry Shruti. The family wants Jeetu to accept Pooja, but he is helpless. Jai Dev and Mohan come to the wedding ceremony, and everyone starts arguing. When Pooja learns that Shruti cannot speak, she changes her mind and asks Jeetu to marry Shruti. After this, Jeetu and Shruti get married, and they live happily ever after.

Following this incident is a daring robbery on an armored vehicle carrying billions of pounds. The police suspect two Indians: Pipi (Irrfan Khan) and Sim (Tanushree Dutta). Police finds the wallet of an Indian named Rocker (Sunil Shetty), at the boat. They suspect Rocker to have robbed the armored van and then carrying out the act of terrorism.. The wallet had Rocker's photo with his 2 friends Pipi and Sim. They are interrogated extensively with allegations that they may be linked to Al-Qaeda. Rockers 2 other friends are missing Chip (Arshad Warsi) and Deva (Emraan Hashmi) Crime journalist Monsoon Iyer (Sushma Reddy) learns about their plight, meets them, and asks advocate Krishan Pundit (Anil Kapoor) to represent them in court. Krishan meets with the two, listens to their side of the incidents. Pipi says the 5 were friends. Sim was a waitress, Chip a hacker, Deva a tech guy, and Rocker a petty thief. Pipi was a street artist. They were all passionate about music and had an amateur band. They were approached by a rich man Vivek Agnihotri (Jagmohan Mundhra), who wanted them to compose a jingle for 20000 pounds in one night. rocker was against taking up the assignment and the same night, Rocker was killed. rocker walked away, while the remaining 4 work all night to compose the jingle. Just after they play the jingle, all the dogs in the house go mad and start running towards a window. The next morning, they board the metro to go and meet Vivek. But they discover a mysterious person singing the same jingle they composed last night. The quad runs after him, but Pipi loses his specs and cant see anything. They are lured into a cemetery where Chip and Deva are shot. Pipi and Sim never go to the police since the revolver used to shoot Chip and Deva belonged to Sim (the shooter snatched it from Sim at the cemetery). Rocker used to love Sim, despite Pipi's reservations that Sim is a smart and clever girl. Monsoon thinks Sim is trying to seduce Krishan. Sim says Roshan Gandhi (Raj Zutshi) was her friend and used to support him financially. Sim admits to Krishan that she didn't love Rocker.. Roshan introduced Rocker to the world of drug trafficking, as Rocker wanted to get rich to marry Sim. Rocker had gifted Sim the gun. Rocker owed money to Roshan and Roshan had threatened to go after all the 5 friends, if Rocker didn't pay up (Rocker sold the drugs, but lost the bag that had 50,000 pounds in it). Roshan asks Rocker and his friends to snatch a briefcase full of money from a Dubai based man Roshan Abbas (Kelly Dorjee) who is in the UK to sell arms. The team sets up an ambush but the British police arrives and rescues Abbas. Turns out British police runs the mafia in the UK. Krishan does his own investigation and figures that there was no ambush, or firefight in the basement as Pipi and Sim claimed. Krishan investigates further through his contact Bilal (Murli Sharma). Bilal runs a police cab service in the UK and says his service is closed for 6 months as his car was burnt by vandals. He cant share Abbas's whereabouts either. Krishan confronts Pipi, who admits that the team ambushed Abbas in the police cab service to snatch the suitcase full of money and to set the car on fire. Deva shot 2 policemen who tried to escape. The briefcases is handed over to Roshan. Soon, the team is summoned by Murtaza Arzai's henchman, who says that the briefcase with Abbas belonged to him. The henchman reveals secrets of each member of the team, which the others didn't know. This leads to speculation that one of the team members is Murtaza Arzai. Pipi relates one incident of Murtaza, back when he was in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda kidnapped his family and waited for him to return. When Murtaza returned, he understood the situation and shot his own family before killing the Al Qaeda men. Murtaza has a delivery of 20 Billion pounds of arms sitting in the harbor. But Abbas is dead, so there is no way to secure the money. Operation Chocolate is to task the team to rob an armored van of 20 Bn pounds and to travel to the harbor to take delivery of the arms. They would be paid 50 Mn pounds for this job. Rocker and the team carry out the daring heist by pooling their talents together. Krishan is convinced of their innocence, and is quite sure that the two incidents, as well as the deaths of three of Pipi and Sim's friends (Chip, Deva and Rocker), were the actions of a notorious terrorist named Murtaza Arzai. Krishan again investigates and finds that whenever Murtaza fakes his death, he leaves a dead & charred body behind. He has done this 4 times before. Krishan theorizes that Rocker is Murtaza. The team decides to travel to the harbor as planned to take delivery of arms. Pipi panics and triggers a blackout which leads to a shootout, in which 30 people die, including DEva, Chip and Rocker. Pipi claims that he saw Murtaza Arzai kill Deva, Chip and Rocker. Listening to Sim and Pipi, Krishan investigates and pieces together the story of how the three died on the boat that night at Arzai's hand. Krishan succeeds in persuading the presiding judge of their innocence, and the charges against them are dismissed and sealed. However, a fleeting glance at a magazine lying on his office table tells Krishan that the names in Sim and Pipi's story match up with names on the magazine's cover stories and the story must therefore be made up. Sim and Pipi escape Scott free, to meet with Rocker, Devaa, and Chip whose supposed deaths turn out to be part of the ruse. Basically 5 thieves stole 20 Bn pounds and Pipi and Sim crafted a full fictitious story with clippings from a magazine to portray themselves as victims rather than thieves. The team is seen sipping champagne on the open seas in a yacht ..

Since Balram is of marriageable age, he arranges his marriage with the daughter Dhamini of Laxmi Devi (Lakshmi). Dhamini used to love Balram. Laxmi decides to oppose this marriage. During the wedding ceremony, Laxmi Devi and her sons, Surajbhan (Akhilendra Mishra), and Pratap (Deep Dhillon) forcibly take away their sister from the wedding pyre. Laxmi's husband shoots at Balram, but accidentally kill Parvati. They subsequently get Dhamini married to Kashinath (Shakti Kapoor). An enraged Angar hacks Laxmi's husband to death, is arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison. When he returns, he makes it clear that women will not be permitted in his house, posting a sign on the front gate, and forbids his sons to ever marry. Advocate Milind Sharma (Asrani) is Angar's lawyer. Angar will take up any issue for the villagers if it against Laxmi's interests. The 4 sons are now settled in their businesses (and Jai studies in law college), but are summoned to the village by Angar, whenever he needs them. 6 years later, Dhamini's daughter Anjali is in college with Jai, Angar's youngest son. Lucky (Arshad Warsi) is Jai's best friend in college. Surya is married to Ramila (Upasana Singh) and Pratap is married to Raakhi (Ada Puri). Angar learns Anjali (Kareena Kapoor) will marry the state's Home Minister. Due to the impending marriage, Anjali quits her law studies midway. Still having a grudge against women, Angar breaks the wedding by political pressure. Angar had kept 10 MLAs under his control and had threatened the Home Minister to refuse the wedding else Angar would topple the government and throw him out of a job. Dhamini had since passed away and hence Laxmi had spared no expense for Anjali's wedding. Laxmi was livid at the humiliation and only her 3rd son Veer was able to calm her down and bring the situation under control. Laxmi's Advocate Namdev tells her that Angar's family is strong and together since they do not have woman among them. He says that a woman is a sure fire way to divide the family. Angar tells Milind that he is not willing to forget the past and will only be at peace when Laxmi and her 2 sons who killed Parvati, are dead. Anjali is Laxmi's granddaughter. Jai humiliates Anjali when she returns to Uday Pratap Law College after her failed engagement. Anjali returns home livid with anger and rage. Suraj, Pratap and Veer want to avenge Anjali's honor by attacking Angar's home. Laxmi convinces Anjali to trick Jai into falling in love with her to cause a rift in the family. Jai meets with Anjali, who openly admits that she is attracted to him. Jai, at first rejects her and is even hostile to her, then decides to teach her and her family a lesson. Lucky makes Jai realize that pretending to be in love with Anjali would be a great way to humiliate her family. Both feign their love for each other. Veer comes to college and finds Anjali with Jai. He proceeds to beat up Jai, when Anjali intervenes and explains that she is doing this on Laxmi's bidding. Jai's brothers find out about the fight and come to college. They want to know who hit Jai and find that it was Veer. Jai manages to convince them that he will deal with the situation in his own way. Subsequently Anjali admits that she wanted to come close to Jai to extract vengeance, as well as Jai admitting his agenda. Both go their separate ways but find that they are indeed in love with each other. Lucky tells Jai to marry Anjali and to run with her to Dubai. Anjali leaves college as she does not want to admit her feelings to Jai, but Jai follows her to her village Anpara and meets her inside her house by hoodwinking her family. They both agree that they love each other and want to get married. In order to get wed, Jai must first convince his elder brothers to get married albeit in vain as none of them even want to consider this option. Then Lucky, Jai's friend, finds out that Kishan, a seemingly celibate Bhagwan Hanuman's devotee, is leading a dual life as Murari, who has been married to a woman, Gopi (Farha Naaz), from Gangapur, for 7 years and has two children, a son and a daughter. When Angar finds out he kicks Kishan and Jai out of his house. A marriage is finalized with Laxmi's Advocate Namdev Mishra's (Manoj Joshi) son Dr. Satyendra "Sattu" Mishra (Sharad Kelkar) for Anjali, but after Jai and Anjali acknowledge their love for each other to her family, Pratap and Surajbhan approach Angar to help them stop Jai from disrupting this marriage on one hand, while Laxmi tells Jai to marry Anjali - setting off confrontations between the estranged sons and father. Jai, Kishan and his wife Gopi, and Lucky sneak into the wedding festival with the help of Anjali's uncle Veeru/Veer (Suniel Shetty). Jai is dressed as the bridegroom and successfully completes the wedding ceremony. Once Laxmi recognizes Jai in disguise, she confronts Angar to cut his own son's throat. Jai tells his father he won't go through with the wedding without his approval. Balram the oldest of the brothers finally tells Jai to place the wedding necklace on Anjali's neck which finalizes the wedding. The necklace is grabbed from Jai's hands and a race goes throughout the wedding hall chasing Jai to stop him, but in the end, Jai succeeds, and the marriage is completed. Anjali asks her grandmother to stop the feud their families and Jai asks his father for forgiveness. Angar leaves the wedding and contemplates all his son's actions on the way home. All brothers and the two wives arrive and the gate. Angar looks at his sons and takes the sign off the gate and finally welcomes women back into his family.

After frantic attempts from battalions to locate their lost patrols, the Indian Army HQ in Jammu and Kashmir decides to deploy more troops. They suffer a rude shock when company and even battalion-sized attacks are beaten back by the largely unknown enemy sitting on top of the steep and treacherous peaks surrounding Kargil, Mushkoh Valley, Drass, Batalik and the Kaksar sectors. After these terrible and surprising reverses, the decision is taken to go ahead with maximum mobilization and move its best fighting units into the area of operations. Orders are not to cross LOC. The first unit deployed is 1/11 Gorkha Rifles (1st Battalion, 11th Regiment) who are specialists in high-altitude warfare. 1/11 is led by its commanding officer, Col. Lalit Rai (Sudesh Berry), and has the charismatic and brave Lt. Manoj Pandey (Ajay Devgan) leading one of its platoons. Subsequently, the 18th Grenadiers (which was in the Kashmir Valley guarding against terrorist infiltration when they were urgently summoned to help throw out the intruders) are deployed. The Grenadiers were led by Colonel Khushal Thakur (Raj Babbar). Among the officers and soldiers were men like Lt. Col R Vishwanathan (Mohnish Behl), Major Rajesh Adhikari (Karan Nath), Lt. Balwan Singh (Akshaye Khanna), Captain Sachin Nimbalkar (Vineet Sharma), and Grenadiers Yogendra Singh Yadav (Ashutosh Rana & Manoj Bajpai). Other units like the 17th Jat, 2nd Rajputana Rifles, 22 & 16 Grenadiers, 2 Naga, 1 Bihar, 8 Sikh, 18 Garhwal Rifles, 12 JAK LI, 3 Punjab and 13th J&K Rifles are inducted into the theatre of conflict. The first assault is by the 1/11 Gorkhas advance platoon led by Lt. Manoj Pandey which links with the beleaguered and severely mauled Sikh Bn. They follow up to launch its attack on Kukarthang post, a very heavily defended enemy position supported by mortar units and artillery batteries on the Pakistani side of LOC. The Gurkhas take Kukarthang after suffering heavy casualties, revealing that the enemy is a trained army unit being given full-fire support from across the LOC. The second battle is at the strategic Tololing mountain which sits astride National Highway 1, the main supply route for the entire Northern Kashmir sector including Siachen and Leh. Col. Khushal's 18th Grenadiers 1st company, led by Major Adhikari, attacks Tololing. The company is held up midway to the top due to heavy fog; it waits for clear weather. The men when half asleep suffer intense shelling from artillery and mortars, causing casualties and panic. They try to get to safety by moving up the mountain but are pushed down by heavy small-arms fire from intruders dug into the well-prepared position atop the mountain. Subsequent counter-attacks from the Indians are stifled by stiff resistance, in the absence of artillery support for the Indians, claiming the lives of Major Adhikari and Lt. Col. Vishwanathan. The 18th Grenadiers are relieved by 2nd Rajputana Rifles, commanded by Col. Ravindranath (Ashish Vidyarthi), which moves in with an artillery battery of 110 mm field artillery and acclimatized troops. They launch a multi-pronged attack under artillery cover which ends in success but at the cost of losing many officers and ranks, including Capt. Vijayant Thapar (Amar Upadhyay), Maj. Padmapani Acharya (Nagarjuna Akkineni) and Maj. Vivek Gupta (Himanshu Malik). All this happens while the 13th J&K Rifles led by Lt. Col. Y K Joshi (Sanjay Dutt) stands by in case the 2nd Raj Rif fails. The 13th JAK Rif is blooded at Rocky Mount where they take the field after suffering heavy casualties. They follow it up with another victory at Point 5140 where Lt. Vikram Batra (Abhishek Bachchan) distinguishes himself by taking the south face of Pt 5140 without any casualties and is promoted to captain. The decisive phase of the war has come. 18th Grenadiers are assigned to take Tiger Hill, 17th Jat to Three Pimple complex feature, 1/11 Gorkhas to Khalubar Ridge and 13th J&K to Bunker Complex. The Grenadiers take Tiger Hill after a daring stealth attack by the elite Ghatak section, losing its lead Nk Yogender Singh Yadav (Ashutosh Rana). Only one of them Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav (Manoj Bajpayee) survives to link up with the rest of the battalion. 17th Jat suffers heavy casualties with Captain Anuj Nayyar (Saif Ali Khan) and several others killed and injured, but is able to secure Three Pimple complex. 1/11 Gorkhas link up with 22 Grenadiers at the base of Khalubar Ridge after braving an intense creeping barrage of artillery. Pandey somehow keeps the sagging morale of the weary unit up till the battalion begins its attack. The plans go awry as Gurkha CO Col Rai is injured by machine gun fire. Pandey volunteers to take out the bunkers which are holding up the attack. The machine guns are taken out, but Pandey is killed in action. The last battle is fought by the 13th J&K attacking Bunker Complex, but the unit gets split up. Capt Batra is sent to link up with Captain Nagappa (Nagender Choudhary) who has been captured one bunker and surrounded by the enemy. Batra links up with Capt. Nagappa but is pinned down himself by heavy enemy fire. He alone takes out two bunkers but is mortally wounded. The 13th JAK pursues the enemy to the LOC but stops due to orders not to cross the LOC. Finally, India declares 'OPERATION VIJAY' a success and victory and secures all its captured heights from the adversary. Just like J. P. Dutta's previous war movie BORDER, the Indian Military provided technical and material assistance during its production and filming. Weapons used in Kargil War like different variants of INSAS rifle family as well as the Famous Swedish Bofors artillery guns and BM-21 multiple rocket launchers. Air Force planes like Jaguars in bombing role and helicopters like Mi-17s and Cheetah were shown in casualty evacuation roles. Pakistani artillery shown were Indian field guns and 81 mm mortars. SLR stood for G3 rifles used by Pakistani Army.

Read more →The story centers on the legacy of a dead Indian underworld don Baba Baldev Prasad (Om Puri), who dies of a heart attack. He has left diamonds worth Rs 1000 Crores at the New York Bank. Baldev's next generation includes his son Vikrant (Rahul Dev), his daughter Preeti (Preeti Jhangiani), and Preeti's husband Guru Gulab Khatri (Akshay Kumar). Vikrant and Preeti are step siblings, as Baldev's children from different mothers. Champaklal (Asrani) is Baldev's lawyer. Baldev himself did not trust Vikrant, but had full faith in Guru. Baldev had left a will in which all his estate was split equally between Vikrant, Preeti, and Guru, which included the diamonds as well. To claim the diamonds, all three benefactors must be present at the bank or, if dead, their death certificates must be presented. If all 3 die, the diamonds will go to Champaklal. And if Champaklal dies, the diamonds will go to an animal welfare trust. Preeti and Guru are married only in name as Baldev got them married. But they do not stay together. Preeti wants to divorce Guru, but he refuses. Shortly after Baldev's death, Vikrant attempts to eliminate Guru by assassinating the Indian home minister in full view of television cameras while disguised as him. Guru flees to the US disguised as someone else to escape prosecution in India. Guru moves to the street where Anmol (Aftab Shivdasani) and his family live. Anmol is married to Mona (Amrita Arora). Anmol is a dentist and his secretary is Tina (Aarti Chabria). Tina is a big fan of mafia dons. Mona is a dominant wife and demands that Anmol does all the housework and also hand over all of his earnings to her. Anmol recognizes Guru from the news as a wanted criminal from India. Guru warns Anmol not to reveal his identity to anyone, especially the police. But Guru likes Anmol and his father-in-law Manilal, and their innocence. Manilal forgets the names of the people around him and also forgets his name too. Manilal cares for Anmol and does not approve of how Mona treats him. Anmol's mother-in-law Paramjeet (Supriya Pilgaonkar) forces him to go to India, along with his father-in-law, Manilal (Paresh Rawal) to tell Vikrant about Guru and get the reward of Rs 2 Crores. Vikrant's goons, Yeda Anna and Chota Chathri, pick up Anmol and Manilal from their India hotel and take them to Vikrant. Anmol sees Preeti and falls in love with her. He is heartbroken to find that Preeti is married to Guru. Everything turns wrong when Vikrant doesn't give the reward and instead sends Anmol and Manilal back to the USA with his hired men, Yeda Anna (Sunil Shetty) and Chota Chathri (Johnny Lever) to kill Guru. Anmol figures out Vikrant's plan and calls Guru from India to warn him. Preeti reaches out to Anmol and says that she wants to divorce Guru in exchange for her share of the diamonds. Anmol admits his feelings to Preeti. Anmol, Manilal, Yeda and Chota return to the US. Later, they find out that Yeda Anna was a double agent: He was working for Guru the whole time because he offered more money. Yeda calls Vikrant, that Anmol's information is correct and asks Vikrant to come to the US. Yeda and Chota are asked to stay with Manilal and Anmol, and they both terrorize their wives who now start respecting their husbands. Yeda and Chota learn that the whole tussle is for diamonds worth Rs 1000 Crores. Yeda is not happy at receiving only Rs 5 Crores from Guru and wants the whole thing. Tina is smitten with Guru and asks Anmol to introduce her to Guru. Tina knows Guru's whole history and Guru is impressed with her. Meanwhile, realizing the Yeda will get the money from Guru, Mona tries to seduce him. The group receive Vikrant and Preeti at the airport and drive to the hotel. At the hotel, Vikrant is kidnapped by a mysterious group of Chinese goons. Yeda Anna receives a phone call and finds out that the kidnapped Vikrant was a duplicate of the real one and the real one was going to come later by a private plane. They kill the second Vikrant (who arrived later by plane) and put his body in a car and leave it by the Brooklyn Bridge. With Vikrant's death, Preeti and Guru each get half of the diamonds. When they are outside the bank, a group of policemen arrest them and take them to an unknown desert area. It is revealed that Vikrant is still alive, as the original Vikrant got himself kidnapped by Chinese goons. Vikrant gets the diamonds and tries to kill Guru. A fight occurs. At the end of the fight, Guru kills Vikrant. When it's all over, the group ask each other to find out who has the diamonds. Anmol has them and says he will give them to Guru if he gives Preeti a divorce. Tina convinces Guru to give the divorce to Preeti. Guru arrives at the location selected by Anmol and gets the diamonds, while giving Anmol the divorce papers. Yeda Anna betrays Guru and tries to steal the diamonds. Guru wins in a fight and gives diamonds worth Rs 5 Crores to Yeda Anna while hanging him to a forklift and having him stand on Chota Chathri's shoulders. In the end, Anmol and his love, Preet, are seen going to India. Anmol's ex-father-in-law gives him some diamonds that he received from Guru as Preeti's share. Preeti comments that she didn't know that Guru was so nice.

However, after the formation of the state of Bangladesh in 1971, he and several other people were forced to re-locate to the western part of Pakistan. To do this by land, they will have to cross India. The route from Dhaka leads to Guwahati in India then to Delhi then to Ajmer then to Bhuj, and then on to Haji Peer in Pakistan. They get as far as Bhuj, but afterward they are assisted by an agent known only as "Refugee" (Abhishek Bachchan), who helps them trek their way across the Great Rann of Kutch to Pakistan. Makkad (Ashish Vidyarthi) is Refugee's handler and brings clients for him, in exchange for a commission. Refugee considers his clients as mere items of luggage and refuses to be emotionally involved with them and their stories. Then he meets Nazneen Ahmed (Kareena Kapoor), the young daughter of Manzur Ahmed, and he forgets this rule and falls in love with her. Police on both sides of the border are aware of the illegal refugee traffic and the Indian BSF led by Raghuvir Singh regularly questions Refugee and his old father Jaan Muhammad (Anupam Kher) on border crossings. Jaan is married to Amina (Reena Roy). Manzur and his family stay at Jaan's brother Atta Mohammad's (Avtar Gill) place on the other side of the border. Pakistani rangers led by Ashraf search Atta's house, who tells Ashraf that Manzur and his family have come from another village for Naaz's marriage. Tausif (Mukesh Tiwari) is Ashraf's lieutenant. Manzur's mother dies due to the strain of the crossing. Tausif has his eye on Naaz's younger sister Salma, but Ashraf stops him and asks him to leave the family alone. Refugee crosses the border regularly to see Naaz. The journey to Pakistan changes the course of Refugee's life -- he falls in love with the pretty Naaz. The girl too reciprocates his feelings. Naaz wants to create a home with Refugee in Pakistan. But the lovers face an uphill task, for: (i) Naaz is now settled in Pakistan, while he stays in India. (ii) The head of the security keeping a strict vigil on the border of Pakistan. Ashraf (Sunil Shetty), a Pakistani, falls for the innocent charms of Naaz and wants to marry her. Naaz's family agrees to this match, not realizing that their daughter's heart yearns for Refugee. (iii) The Border Security Force in India has learned of the illegal activities of Refugee and wants to take him to task. Shadab is the one who is passing information to the BSF rangers, in exchange for money. On one crossing, Raghuvir manages to spot Refugee crossing the border and shoots him in the leg, but Refugee escapes by hiding in a hole in the ground, covered by foliage. On the Indian side, Refugee is cared for by Sikh priest (Puneet Issar), who hides him in a cave. Refugee crosses the border once again to visit Nazneen Ahmed. Due to a miscommunication, Naaz believes that her parents have agreed to her marriage to Refugee, while they had suggested her wedding with Ashraf. One day, Refugee assists four men (led by Gul Hamid (Sudesh Berry)) to enter the Indian side of the border. These men then enlist the help of Mr. Muhammad's other son Shadab (Shadaab Khan) to get to Delhi. Shadab is addicted to gambling and liquor and does all illegal things to fund his expensive tastes. Shortly thereafter, explosions take place in trains, buses, and buildings in the Indian capital. Shadab returns home with Rs 1 Lakh in cash, which he was given to place a bomb in train. Jaan throws Shadab out of the house for betraying the nation. After the blasts, villages on both sides are rounded up. Tausif wants to arrest Munzir for being an illegal immigrant, but Ashraf stops him. Tausif informs Ashraf that he is willing to break the law for Naaz, who has already slept with someone else. Naaz also affirms that she has only ever loved Refugee. Refugee crosses the border again and meets Naaz. Naaz requests Refugee to take her with him since her father wants to marry her to Ashraf. Munzir informs Ashraf that Naaz is crossing the border with Refugee. While crossing the border through Rann they are captured by Pakistanis rangers. Refugee is beaten up and sent to India on a camel. Ashraf leaves to return Naaz home, while Tausif beats up Refugee mercilessly before sending him back on a camel. Tausif tells Naaz that Ashraf was the one who broke Refugee before returning him to India. Naaz confronts Ashraf for torturing Refugee before sending him back to India. In retaliation, Ashraf confronts Tausif, and kills him after a brutal battle. The Indian BSF led by Raghuvir Singh (Jackie Shroff) captures him and treats him in hospital. The Indians informs him that he unknowingly helped terrorists cross into India and caused several deaths. Refugee confronts his father Jaan, who confirms Refugee's involvement in helping terrorists to cross the border. Refugee joins the BSF and fights the terrorists who laid siege to his village. The terrorists led by Gul Hamid plan to capture the village and assimilate in Pakistan. Jaan resists the terrorists and his own brother Atta who was supporting the terrorists. Atta shoots Jaan and he dies, but due to Jaan's death, the villagers refuse to support the terrorists. Shadab escapes the village to inform the BSF but is shot dead as well. Refugee leads the attack on the village and kills both Atta and Gul Hamid. Naaz tries to cross the border several times but is captured by the Pakistani Rangers. Ashraf agrees to take Naaz to the Haji Peer Mela, which is an event celebrated jointly by Muslim families on both sides of the border. The event is attended by both BSF and the Pakistani Rangers. Naaz runs into Refugee at the event, and Ashraf brings a priest to get them married. Raghuvir allows Refugee to bring Naaz to India, but she is heavily pregnant and goes into labor at the border crossing. The film ends with Nazneen Ahmed giving birth to Refugee's child at the border between the two nations. Indian and Pakistani BSF officers discuss the child's nationality in a lighter vein.
