A middle-class housewife's journey to acquire an arms license for her safety.

A young woman is murdered right in front of a police station. The inspector at the station suspects her boyfriend, a private detective, who claims he is innocent.

Dev (Prithviraj Sukumaran) falls in love with Ragini (Aishwarya Rai), a spunky classical dancer who is as unconventional as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in Lal Maati, a small town where the word of law is not the police but Veeraiya (Vikram), a tribal who has shifted the power equation of the place.

This is the story of Easwaran (Arjun Sarja) who gets into trouble with the MLA (Sai Kumar) after he exposes his corrupt and greedy ways through his cable TV channel. His mother takes him to a saint in Thiruvannamalai who resembles him and in the series of events that follow, the two swipe places. The rest is how Swami deals with the issues through his soft spoken nature and whether Easwaran is able to pin down the MLA or not.

The Venu Thottempudi and Megha Nair-starrer is produced by Teegala Krupakara for the AAA Creations banner. Deepavali`s protagonist comes to the city from a nearby village and undergoes humiliation and hardship to protect another person. He doesn`t give any reasons nor does he celebrate Deepavali, the festival that everyone is enjoying around. The rest of the movie is about what is plaguing him.

About the movie Twin brothers, Vasu and Vel, got separated at birth and grew up in different families. One becomes an officer while the other is a rough character.

Kumaresan (Venkat Prabhu) is a milk vendor in his village, who hates the marriage and stays away from women. His elderly father (Velu Thigal) wants him to get married as soon as possible, but the Kumaresan stubbornly refuses to get married. During the college holidays, the city girl Gayathri (Nanditha Jennifer) comes to stay with her grandparents Chettiar (Shanmugasundaram) and Meenakshi (Varalakshmi). After initial clashes between Kumaresan and Gayathri, Gayathri is intrigued by its refusal to get married. In the past, Kumaresan's brother got secretly married to a woman from a rich family. Kumaresan's family welcomed him and were happy for them. The young Kumaresan clashed with his sister-in-law, therefore the young couple left their home. Kumaresan fell sick after the departure of the couple, then Kumaresan and his father begged Kumaresan's brother to call on their mother (Sabitha Anand) but his sister-in-law refused to let him go. Before she died, Kumaresan's mother Chellamma asked Kumaresan to not be like his brother and to stay with his father. That day, Kumaresan took the decision of remaining single. Meanwhile, Gayathri falls in love with Kumaresan. Gayathri then tied the mangala sutra to herself and lied to the villagers that Kumaresan is the one who tied the knot. Gayathri's grandparents and Kumaresan's father agree for their marriage. Kumaresan doesn't want to live with her, so he tries several ways to drive Gayathri out of his house. Afterwards, the village doctor Rajasekhar (Ramji), who knows about the matter, establishes the truth at the village court and the couple split up. Gayathri then goes to back to her parents. Kumaresan, who felt alone, realises that he was in love with Gayathri but it was too late. The film ends with Gayathri returning to his home and they immediately get married.

A radio jockey has a fan in the form of a girl who often sends song requests. Both fall in love talking over the phone. When it is time to meet face to face, the boy develops an inferiority complex.

A hoodlum faces challenges from a rival gangster and local police after falling in love and deciding to go straight. Gemini (Vikram) is a hoodlum, who lives off extortions and petty crime. A brief love affair with the new girl on the block (Kiran), leads him on a path to reform, which ultimately pits him against the local goon Teja (Kalabhavan Mani). —Joyojeet Pal Chenni-based Gemini is a career criminal and extortionist, who often gets into violent clashes with his rival, Teja/Anees. While intervening on behalf of an auto-rickshaw drive, he meets with Marwari belle, Manisha Natwarlal, and both fall in love with each other. He conceals his background, and even enrolls himself in an evening college so they can be together. His cover is exposed when he is arrested by the new Director General of Police, Sengupermual. He manages to convince the Police as well as Manisha's extended family that he will abandon his criminal ways, but faces challenges when the past comes to re-visit in the shape and form of Ganga; Sengupermual gets transferred, and his replacement joins forces with Teja to ensure that Gemini does not survive. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

When a stuntman Pammal Kalyana Sambandham alias P.K.S and a reputed surgeon Dr. Janaki come across each other at his younger brother Anand's and her best friend Malathi's elopement, they instantly develop a dislike for each other. They both have a very low opinion of the opposite gender, and also refuse to believe in the concept of marriage. Sambandham humorously often censors his middle name "Kalyana" as it means "marriage". Janaki, in particular, hates Sambandham for his uncouth manners and language. She gets Sambandam arrested when he argues with her at the police station over Anand and Malathi's marriage. Sambandham is eventually released on bail. Anand and Malathi's marriage soon turns rocky as Malathi feels that Anand had lied to her over a job assignment in Australia before they had eloped. On the advice's of Janaki, Malathi harasses Anand at every opportunity and makes him do the household work. On hearing about Anand's plight, Sambandham decides to fix the relationship by "hooking up" Anand with a woman named Vanaja in order to make Malathi jealous and a more caring and dutiful wife to Anand. But, unfortunately for Anand, Janaki makes Malathi to believe that Anand is cheating on her and forces her to file for divorce. Meanwhile, Janaki tries to get Sambandham into trouble by barging into a movie shoot involving Sambandham and claiming that he is "involved" in animal cruelty since he is using a bull and a snake as part of the movie. In the chaos which was accidentally created by Janaki as she accidentally throws the snake on to the bull's head, the bull goes mad, the snake gets killed and the bull gores Sambandham in his stomach when he was trying save Janaki from the bull as it was trying to attack her. Janaki performs an emergency surgery on him and saves his life, but during the surgery, her prized possession (a wristwatch gifted to her by her aunt) falls into his stomach, which is detected by the X-Ray. She pretends to become close with Sambandham, with the intention to somehow sedate him and perform the surgery again to retrieve the watch. Sambandham, who is unaware that Janaki's watch is in his stomach due to a mix-up with another patient's X-Ray, mistakes Janaki's romantic overtures to be genuine, and falls in love with her. He also inadvertently foils all her plans to sedate him. Eventually, Sambandham provides another shock to Janaki; they are to be engaged at his grandfather's house. During the engagement ceremony, Janaki finally manages to sedate Sambandham and retrieve her watch. Following the surgery, Janaki reveals the truth to Sambandham and ends their engagement, leaving Sambandham heartbroken. Sambandham's troubles increase when he realizes that his grandfather had signed a legal document transferring his lodge to him once he is married. When his grandfather finds out that Janaki canceled the engagement, he suffers a massive heart attack and dies. Meanwhile, Malathi and Anand manage to reconcile and get back together, canceling their divorce. Janaki feels guilty over being responsible for Sambandham's grandfather's death. She also finds out that Sambandham had decided to transfer the ownership of the lodge to her and convert it to an orphanage if they had got married, and on this revelation, she realizes that she has fallen in love with him. She decides to confess her love to Sambandham, but instead she inadvertently convinces him to marry his relative, a weightlifter Rajeshwari alias Raji, within the next two days, as he would lose the possession of the lodge if he doesn't marry by then. However, it turns out that Raji has no interest in the marriage and is in love with a Malayali boy. In a hilarious climax, Sambandham, Janaki, Anand and Malathi help Raji in eloping with her boyfriend, and Sambandham and Janaki too elope as well, thus ensuring that the lodge remains under Sambandham's ownership.

A single mother changes her opinion about getting married again after meeting a single man and discovering that both of them have a similar past concerning their spouses.

Sakthivel, an irresponsible man, disapproves of the marriage arranged for him by his father and tries to ruin it till he realizes that the prospective bride is the woman he loves.

Amarkalam is the story of Vasu, a ruthless man who lives in a cinema hall. He had an unfortunate childhood and he drowns all his sorries in alcohol. Vasu`s friend Dhamu loses a reel of the movie Annamalai to Mohana. This creates a clash between Vasu and Mohana. However, Mohana soon falls in love with her. The movie chronicles his efforts to prove that his love was true.

After her father's sudden death, Mahalakshmi is left to clear his debts and face the harsh villagers. A taxi driver helps her cremate her father and pledges his taxi to earn her a temporary reprieve.

Family opposition to a couple's coming together forms the basis for this standard love story. Vasanth (Prashant) falls in love at first sight with a girl (Simran) he once sees at a railway station and keeps bumping into on occasion thereafter. At college Vasanth's best buddy Karan is an unusual chap who won't have any of his friends interact with his family. In time, we find out why this is so, and how that affects Vasanth's future with Simran. Unimaginative fare, pretty standard for the late 90s, early 2000s, with plenty of screen space for Prashanth to work up his 'romantic action star' image. —Joyojeet Pal
