Brett Ridgeman (Mel Gibson) and Anthony Lurasetti (Vince Vaughn) are a pair of police officers working the urban beat in the city of Bulwark. During a drug bust, the older, more volatile Ridgeman becomes unnecessarily rough with a suspect, using his foot to jam the man's face into a fire escape. They also pour cold water on and mock the suspect's partially-deaf girlfriend. The former act is caught on video, and the two men called before their superior, Lt. Calvert (Don Johnson). Although Ridgeman asks that Lurasetti be spared from any sort of reprisal, Calvert is forced to suspend both men without pay in order to appease the media. With Ridgeman's wife Melanie (Laurie Holden) unable to work due to illness and Lurasetti preparing to propose to his fiancee, the men resolve to use the criminal connections they have developed through their time in law enforcement to make cash that will sustain them until their suspensions are lifted. Through Friedrich (Udo Kier), a wealthy businessman and criminal associate who owes him a favor, Ridgeman gets a lead on a score from Lorentz Vogelman (Thomas Kretschmann). Meanwhile, recently released ex-con Henry Johns (Tory Kittles), hoping to finance better opportunities for his drug-addicted, prostitute mother and his bright but wheelchair-bound little brother, joins up with his childhood friend Biscuit (Michael Jai White) for a mysterious but lucrative job. Their employer turns out to be Vogelman, who uses them as getaway drivers and lookouts for a bank robbery. Ridgeman and Lurasetti tail Vogelman's crew, quickly identifying the telltale signs of a bank robbery; though Lurasetti considers calling the robbery in, Ridgeman convinces him to allow them to carry out the job before robbing them in turn. Holding up the bank for a score of gold bullion, Vogelman and his cronies sadistically execute several employees, including Kelly Summer (Jennifer Carpenter), a teller on her first day back from maternity leave. The brutality does not sit well with either Henry or Biscuit, who quickly realize they are likely expendable to Vogelman. Lurasetti is also wracked with guilt over he and Ridgeman's inaction as they tail the robbers to a rendezvous point in the countryside. As the bank robbers arrive at their checkpoint, Henry and Biscuit turn on them, leading to a shootout in which Biscuit is killed, one of Vogelman's henchman is wounded, and Henry escapes. Ridgeman and Lurasetti arrive, and an extended standoff with the bank robbers ensues. Vogelman blackmails his hostage by threatening her family, having her crawl to the off-duty cops and shoot Lurasetti when his guard is down. Ridgeman kills the hostage, and a dying Lurasetti listens to a voicemail from his girlfriend in which she refused his marriage proposal. Ridgeman finishes off Vogelman and his crew all by himself, but is ambushed by Henry, who recorded a video of Ridgeman killing the hostage as blackmail material. After a brief physical altercation, the two call a truce, agreeing to clean up the crime scene together, bury their friends and split the gold. They cooperate, and the job is nearly done when Ridgeman pulls a gun on Henry, demanding he delete the video he recorded despite Henry's insistence that his word is good. Panicked, Henry pulls his own gun and shoots Ridgeman in self-defense. Henry chastises a dying Ridgeman, but assures him that Ridgeman's family will be taken care of regardless. Nearly a year later, Henry is shown living in a lavish mansion with his mother and brother. Ridgeman's wife and daughter receive a package in the mail, sent by Henry, containing a cigar box full of gold bullion.

Chili Palmer (John Travolta) helps Edie Athens (Uma Thurman), the widow of an executed friend, Tommy Athens (James Woods), to resurrect a record company using the talents of young and talented female vocalist and songwriter, Linda Moon (Christina Milian). The plot is complicated by several facts: In a loan-shark subplot from Get Shorty of "who owns who", Chili makes deals and owns all the players as a "producer". The Russian Mafia (headed by Roman Bulkin (Alex Kubik)) are trying to kill Chili because he witnessed the execution of Athens. Athens' record company owes money to a gangster/producer, Sin LaSalle (Cedric the Entertainer). Chili Palmer is an accomplished filmmaker and hates sequels. His friend Tommy Athens is the owner of a record company. Tommy is meeting Chili for a lunch meeting at a cafe. Tommy is in the music business and pitches Chili to produce a film on his life in the music industry. Tommy had picked Linda Moon to play the out-of-town talent who wanted to make it big in the music industry and Tommy is the executive who makes it happen. The movie would be a musical. He tells Chili that Linda Moon hangs out at the Viper club and is expecting to meet Chili there. When Chili goes to the restroom, a Russian assassin drive up to the cafe (where they were having their meeting) and shoots Tommy. Chili comes out of the restroom and has a good look at the assassin who wears a toupee. Marla (Debi Mazar) is the detective assigned to investigate the case. She believes that Chili set up Tommy for the hit. Moon convinces Chili to take on her cause, getting out of contractual obligations to Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel) and Raji (Vince Vaughn). Linda says that Nick and Raji got her when she got off the bus from Texas and promised to make her a huge star. She believed them and signed a bad contract with them, which basically pays nothing. She has 5 more years left on the contract and wants out. Nick has a gay Samoan bodyguard named Elliott (The Rock), an aspiring actor and the butt of Carr and Raji's homophobic jokes. When Chili walks out of the club with Linda, Raji sends Elliot to kill Chili. However, Chili befriends Elliot and tells him that he can help him out with his acting career. Chili uses the opportunity to help his friend's widow, Edie Athens, manage the failing business, which owes $300,000 to the hip hop producer Sin LaSalle. Chili decides to enter the music industry on the talents of a female entertainer, Linda Moon. Chili was looking to get out of the music business and sees Linda as the perfect opportunity. Chili convinces Edie to produce Moon, hoping to resurrect Athens' failing record company through a live performance with Aerosmith and Steven Tyler. Moon being launched at the concert would also bring down the marketing costs on her debut album. Tommy's assistant Tiffany (Kimberly J. Brown) tells Chili that the Russian assassin with the toupee came by Tommy's office at least twice in the last few days, looking for Tommy. Carr and Raji take exception to Chili's intervention, and hire a hit-man, Joe "Loop" Lupino (Robert Pastorelli) to kill Chili. LaSalle threatens Chili and Edie for payment of the $300,000, but they convince him to give them a few days to get the money plus the Vig. LaSalle is the manager for the band Dub MDs, which was produced by Tommy's company. When the Russians attempt to kill Chili, Joe Loop mistakenly kills Ivan Argianiyev (George Fisher), the Russian Mob hit-man. Raji then kills Loop with a bat after Loop "disrespects" him by asking for another $5000 for another hit on Chili, and also calls Raji as Nick's "B***h". Raji is adamant that he will not give up Linda without a fight. After Chili talks Linda into leaving Carr and his girl group, Chili confronts Carr at his house to hand over Linda's contract. Chili says that Carr had her for 2 years and did nothing for her, and Chili already got her a label within 3 days of meeting her. Chili finds out that Roman was the assassin who killed Tommy. He also knows that Roman is being watch by Feds round the clock. Chili confronts Roman inside his shop and tells him to stay away from Edie. Chili says that he also knows that Roman sent Ivan to kill him. Chili then takes Edie to a basketball game with seats next to Steven Tyler. Back in the day, Edie was a groupie with Aerosmith and is afraid that Steven won't remember her. Steven fondly remembers that Edie used to put Lavender water in their clothes. Steven hears Linda's voice recording and agrees to launch her at his concert. Meanwhile, Elliot has been waiting for Chili to call him about the audition. He confronts Chili at home with the same baseball bat that Raji used to kill Loop. Chili calms Elliot down and asks him to make some changes to his monologue routine and prepare for auditions. Elliot is satisfied that Chili will deliver on his promise and leaves the bat at his place. Carr realizes that the Russians are after Chili, when he finds from Elliot that Chili was seen outside the pawnshop owned by the Russian mob boss Roman Bulkin. Carr makes a deal with Roman to kill Chili. Carr tries to trick Chili by handing him a pawn ticket, claiming that Linda's contract was at the pawn shop owned by the Russians. This is actually a set-up by Carr to get Chili killed. When Chili picks the ticket, he tells Nick that Raji killed Loop. Nick insults Raji. Raji call LaSalle and says that Chili is buying Linda's contract from Nick for $300,000. Knowing about this trick, Chili hands the ticket to Edie, who turns it over to the police. Now the cops, instead of Chili, pay the Russians a visit. Believing that Carr tricked him, Bulkin and his men pay a visit to Carr's office while Sin LaSalle and the Dub MDs are there. Insulted by Bulkin's racist remarks, LaSalle kills him. When Carr threatens Chili, Chili sends him to the hands of the police with a pawn ticket. Finally, when Raji and Elliot threaten Chili, Chili again befriends Elliot, who turns on Raji after learning that Chili gotten him an audition for a film and Raji erased the evidence of it on his answering machine. For all his smooth talking and flamboyant wardrobe, Raji finds himself in a firework conflagration which roasts him live on camera. Carr is arrested on murder charges when they find him with the bat used to kill Joe Loop. During all of this confusion, Chili squeezes in a dance with Edie (a nod to his "Twist Contest" scene, also with Thurman, in Pulp Fiction) and Moon gets her debut with Aerosmith. Finally, LaSalle becomes the producer for Moon's debut album video. At the MTV Video Music Awards, Linda wins the awards for best new artist and video of the year. During her acceptance speech, she thanks Edie, Sin and Chili. Edie and Chili leave the award ceremony. As Chili drives off, he passes a billboard revealing that Elliot is the co-star of a new movie with Kidman.

John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) are divorce mediators in Washington D.C. The two friends frequently "crash" wedding parties to meet women, working from a set of rules taught to them by a past Crasher, Chazz Reinhold. The duo always has cover stories for inquisitive guests and inevitably become the hit of every reception. Their goals are to enjoy the free food and drinks and ultimately to charm their way into bed with women from the wedding for a one-night stand. After a sequence of successful crashes, Jeremy takes John to a wedding for the daughter of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, William Cleary (Christopher Walken). Once inside, the pair set their sights on Cleary's other daughters, Gloria (Isla Fisher) and Claire (Rachel McAdams). Jeremy ends up having sex with Gloria on a nearby beach while the reception is taking place. Gloria is possessive and quickly becomes obsessed with Jeremy. She claims to have been a virgin until the encounter, which shocks Jeremy, and he tries to get John to bail on the reception with him. Meanwhile, John is attempting to court Claire, the maid of honor, but he is interrupted by her hotheaded boyfriend, Sack Lodge (Bradley Cooper), who later turns out to want to date Claire only because of William's political power and is shown to openly mock and cheat on her behind her back. Later, John convinces Jeremy to accept the family's invitation to an extended weekend party at their family compound. Once there, Jeremy, John, and other members of the family play a game of touch football, which ends with Jeremy being badly hurt by an over-aggressive Sack. Gloria tends to him, while trying to engage him in sexual intercourse at the same time. At dinner later that evening, Gloria gives Jeremy a hand job under the dinner table, while John spikes Sack's wine with eye-drops. Sack becomes sick, which lets John further connect with Claire, and they agree to go for a walk together following dinner. John goes to his room to change his shoes, but William's wife, Kathleen (Jane Seymour), makes John fondle her surgically enhanced breasts, then rebuffs his actions, much to John's confusion. Later that night, Gloria ties up Jeremy and proceeds to sexually assault him, thinking she is being "adventurous" and is fulfilling fantasies. That same night, Gloria's gay brother, Todd (Keir O'Donnell), paints a provocative image of Jeremy and tries to seduce him, but is interrupted by his father. The next morning, Jeremy asks John if they can go home, but John convinces him to stay, which helps Jeremy realize that John is falling for Claire. That afternoon, the family (minus Sack) go sailing, where John and Claire continue to bond. Following the sailing trip, the family (with Sack now joining them) go on a hunting trip, where Sack intentionally shoots Jeremy in the buttocks (although it seems as if he was trying to shoot John, who fell down at the force of his gunfire at that point). After the hunting trip, John and Claire go on a bike ride through the country, and they end up at a secluded beach. Claire finally admits she isn't sure how she feels about Sack, and ends up kissing John passionately. Meanwhile, Gloria is tending to Jeremy's wounds, and reveals to Jeremy that she was not a virgin when they met, and that she only said that because that's what she thought he would like to hear. Jeremy realizes that he may be in love with Gloria. Later that day while eating lunch, Sack announces his engagement to Claire, leaving Claire at a loss for words, as she had not actually been proposed to. Outside, John is about to convince Claire to be with him, when they are interrupted by Jeremy being chased out of the house. Sack emerges and forces John and Jeremy to tell the truth about who they really are, as he had them privately investigated. John reluctantly reveals their true identities, and William kicks them out. While leaving, Todd wants his portrait back, but Jeremy tells him that he's keeping it as a gift; this gives Todd some relief knowing that someone took him seriously as an artist. Jeremy and Gloria briefly confess their love to each other. John and Jeremy return to their normal lives. During that time, Jeremy is trying to keep his relationship with Gloria a secret when John comes in to talk to him. He's found a new way to try and reconcile with Claire by trying to be a waiter at her engagement party. Jeremy tries to convince him that his attempts to reconcile with her were unsuccessful and he needs to let it go by coming to term that Claire doesn't want anything to do with him. While pretending to be a waiter, he is caught and brutally beaten by Sack (who has his friends hold John while he beats him, so he can't fight back). Once he recovers, he goes to search for Jeremy (who was supposed to have helped him), but instead finds him still at his house and having sex with Gloria. When John learns the truth, he's very upset by it and it causes a rift between him and Jeremy. John crashes several more weddings alone, but behaves erratically due to his state of depression, and soon becomes nihilistic and suicidal. Meanwhile, Jeremy continues his relationship with Gloria, culminating in an accepted marriage proposal, and Claire begins to doubt her relationship with Sack. Jeremy attempts to reconcile with John, asking him to be his best man, but John refuses. John then goes to meet their mentor, Chazz Reinhold (an uncredited Will Ferrell), to reaffirm Jeremy's apparent stupidity in getting engaged. During the visit, Chaz talks him into crashing a funeral instead of going to Jeremy's wedding, as Chaz believes that grief is the best aphrodisiac. While there, John takes notice of a woman who is truly grieving for her husband because she loved him. He reconsiders his stance on love and marriage and rushes to Jeremy's wedding. John joins the wedding mid-ceremony to Jeremy's delight, but soon disrupts it by attempting to speak to Claire. Claire, in tears, leaves the altar, but John quickly professes his love to her and his feelings of regret of his past behavior towards women. Sack interrupts, asking Claire to return to the altar so the wedding can be finished. Claire finally tells Sack that she can't marry him. He turns to William for help, but instead William states his full support of his daughter's decision to reject Sack, after he admits he put up with him because he thought Claire was happy. Clearly angry, Sack begins aggressively demanding Claire to return to the altar. John states that everyone is getting a good preview of what it would be like to be married to Sack (who he refers to as Ike Turner, referencing his supposed abuse of his ex-wife Tina). Sack loses control of himself completely and rushes at John, but Jeremy intervenes and knocks him out. The film ends with Jeremy getting married to Gloria, John uniting with Claire, and the two couples driving away talking about crashing another wedding together.

Two aspiring boxers, life-long friends, get involved in a money-laundering scheme through a low-level organized crime group. Bobby is a struggling boxer and bodyguard for his stripper girlfriend. But he hates his work and wants to move up. So he agrees to go to New York City for his boss to help in the delivery for a money laundering scheme. His partner in crime is his best friend Ricky, an obnoxious loudmouth who has seen one too many mafia movies. Child psychologist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) is an expert in an experimental treatment for coma patients: a virtual reality device created by Dr. Henry West (Dylan Baker) that allows her to enter the minds of individuals in a vegetative state and attempt to coax them into consciousness. Her current patient, a boy named Edward (Colton James), seems to be making progress during her sessions with him, but there's no outward sign of improvement in his condition and his parents are beginning to wonder whether Catherine's conversations with Edward might simply be drug-fueled delusions. Far from the research facility, in an underground lair, serial killer Carl Rudolph Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio) performs the post-mortem ritual on his latest victim. Stargher captures young women, psychologically tortures and drowns them, and then bleaches their corpses completely white. Finally, he clamps a collar around the corpse's neck, making it his possession, a macabre type of doll. Stargher is in the process of stalking and kidnaping his next victim, a woman named Julia Hickson (Tara Subkoff) when the police work of detectives Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn) and Gordon Ramsey (Jake Weber) finally yields a break in the case. The authorities learn the identity of the killer and surround his home. Just before they can finally make the arrest, Stargher suffers a seizure and slips into a coma. Doctors diagnose Stargher with a rare neurological disease that renders his condition irreversible. Meanwhile, Julia wakes up to find herself imprisoned in Stargher's specially designed glass enclosure that is slowly filling with water by means of an automatic timer. It's up to Catherine and Dr. West's team to access the mind of Stargher and persuade him to reveal the location of Julia Hickson in time to save her life. Otherwise, in less than 48 hours, the tank will fill with water and she will drown. Catherine enters Stargher's twisted mind, where she is confronted by the killer's fractured psyche. The boy Carl is too scared to talk, while the adult Stargher rules his inner world like an evil overlord. Another adult version of Carl explains to Catherine that his father abused him and shows her how he began his practice of killing women. Catherine attempts to nurture the innocent side of Stargher's mind, but his murderous half thwarts her at every turn. Eventually the evil Stargher takes control, attacks Catherine and enslaves her mind. Catherine becomes trapped in Stargher's dark dreamscape. Novak volunteers to enter Stargher's mind and attempts to rescue her. He, too is captured by Stargher, but fortunately he manages to remind Catherine that shes dreaming, which breaks her from Stargher's hold. She overpowers Stargher so that they can make an escape. Catherine doesn't manage to get Carl to talk before both she and Peter awaken from the session, but Peter is able to remember a symbol he saw within the dream, a trademark associated with a specialized piece of equipment that leads them to the isolated area where Stargher has built his secret underground room. Novak finds Hickson just in time to save her life. Meanwhile, Catherine decides to reverse the mind link process and pull Stargher's mind into her own to see if she can heal the innocent part of his self. She presents his inner child, Carl, with a paradise, but his murderous side is always present, and manifests as a serpent. This time, however, Catherine has all the power; she attacks the serpent-Stargher, mortally wounding him. Unfortunately, she learns that the two personalities are inextricably linked and the inner child is also dying. Because Stargher's personal mythology equates drowning with being "saved," in the baptismal sense, he dies serenely in the beautiful dream world Catherine created in her mind, his soul finding peace at last as she drowns him in a sparkling pool of water. The use of Dr. West's technology to help the police locate Julia Hickson has given his work new credibility, and Catherine is able to use the reversal technique to bring Edward into her mind, where he will hopefully make new strides with his therapy.

The move caused his girlfriend of six years to split up with him six months earlier and left him feeling alone and heartbroken. In the opening scenes of the film, Mike talks about his situation with his friend Rob (Ron Livingston), another thespian from back east. Mike feels miserable about their conclusions. Afterwards, while on the phone, Mike is coaxed into an impromptu Las Vegas trip by his new best friend, and also actor, Trent (Vince Vaughn) to help Mike get over his ex. The trip starts out on a high note with excitement and anticipation but soon takes a turn for the worse when Mike crashes and burns at the casino. Soon after, the guys manage to meet some ladies and just when it seems as if though Mike can make some progress and salvage the trip, it all falls apart again and this time Trent goes down with him. On the ride home, Trent gets Mike to feel better about himself and to look at the positive side of things. Mike promises to try his best to move on. Now back in L.A., Mike and Rob get together for some golf and to talk shop. Later that night, Mike and Trent are getting ready to hit the Hollywood hills, at their actor friend Sue's (Patrick Van Horn) apartment. With the vibes feeling right and things going well, Mike and Rob meet up with Mike's pal Charles (Alex Désert), yet another starving actor, at a local bar where they admire the beautiful women. Soon afterward they rendezvous with the others and they all finally make it to a party where Mike makes an ill-fated attempt to get back into the game, while Trent gives the guys a lesson in how to handle the opposite sex. The guys agree to head to their favorite after hours spot and after watching Trent and Sue effortlessly meet some girls, Mike is clearly shown feeling lower than ever but not yet defeated. Trent and Sue convince Mike that he is in control so he finally makes his move like he's got nothing to lose and he actually meets Nikki (Brooke Langton) and gets her phone number. Success at last or so he hopes. The swingers leave the lounge and narrowly miss getting into a brawl in the parking lot caused by Sue's temper yet averted by Sue pulling a gun which no one else was aware was even a part of his attire. The group splits up but not before angry words are exchanged among friends. Mike is left feeling desolate once again. To make himself feel better, Mike decides to call Nikki but he blows any chance he has with her when he goes overboard in their "conversation". Now he feels as if he has truly hit bottom and he sits alone in his apartment, missing his ex more than ever and contemplating a move back to New York. Rob comes over to console him and, after some serious talk, he feels like it's time to get back in the saddle again. Mike meets up with the guys at Sue's, where he discovers that he has missed some changes in the group dynamic. That aside, apologies are exchanged, and the nightlife once again awaits them. The next stop is a Hollywood night club for swing night. The guys enter through a makeshift VIP entrance in a style that pays homage to Director/Writer/Producer Martin Scorsese. Once inside, the guys let the good times roll and Mike spots a beautiful woman whom he decides he wants to meet. He gathers all his courage and approaches her confidently. He finds himself in an actual interesting conversation with the young and single Lorraine (Heather Graham). They are soon swing dancing and the chemistry between them is incredible. The night ends well and Mike, Trent and Sue head to an after-hours meal to discuss the particulars. Mike finally appears to be on his way to moving on and feeling good about himself. The following morning Mike receives a phone call from his ex. She wants to talk about their state of affairs, but when Mike decides to answer another incoming call, he is greeted by Lorraine. He has to make an immediate decision as to which path he wants to go down and in a moment that solidifies his regained self-esteem, he puts his past behind him and chooses to take a chance on someone new. In the closing scene, Mike meets Trent for coffee and they enjoy one more good heart to heart while Trent is brought down to earth by a reminder that even when you've got it, you can't win 'em all, in an ending that suits the swingers perfectly before we leave them on another sunny L.A. day.
