Zeenat and Shahnawaz were a match made in movie theatre! They met in 1989, during a screening of Salman Khan's Maine Pyar Kiya, cupid struck swiftly and marital bliss followed. Everything was going well for the couple and their darling children Sallu and Ilmi until Shahnawaz lost his battle with cancer one fine day. Flash forward twenty years, and the time has come for Zeenat to honour Shahnawaz's final wish, which is to find a suitable girl for their son Sallu and get him hitched. The only problem? Sallu is a die-hard fan of his namesake and has resolved that he will remain a bachelor for as long as his idol does!

It is an evocative and poignant composition consisting of three separate stories set in three different cities in contemporary India. Every story revolves around love, life and loss. The first story enters straight into the heart of Farooq (Ankur Khanna) and Ira's (Soha Ali Khan) relationship in Mumbai. Farooq remains troubled by his own inability to let go of the memories of his dead parents in his ancestral which he continues to occupy and use as the disturbing muse for his own writing. So deeply ensconced in being haunted by his own past, Farooq appears incapable of fully living in the present, to the extent to which he proves powerless in responding to the possibility of sharing true love with Ira. In Kolkatta, the second vignette revolves around Dr. Siddharth Bose (Victor Banerjee), a wealthy Calcutta surgeon in his fifties. Dr. Bose's is stuck in the rut of a loveless, pitiful, and seemingly pointless marriage which he attempts to rattle by embarking on a quick, nervous and uncomfortable affair with a much younger woman. His lover, Lea (Keira Chaplin), is a German on her own journey to discover India, and to some extent herself. Their passionate yet tormented romance lays the groundwork for Dr. Bose and his wife (Roopa Ganguly) to repair their relationship while Dr. Bose simultaneously self-destructs his nascent, doomed affair. The third and final story occurs in the south Indian city of Kochi where the Nair family confronts the sudden loss of a nuclear family member who died serving in the Indian military. One of the Nair children, Naveen (Karthik Kumar), returns from Vienna to try and reconcile the harsh, lonely reality of his brother Keshi's (Shayan Munshi) death with his own inability to connect with his personal and familial history in India and his present predicament of having to feign a relationship with a woman to conceal his love for a man in Europe. —Swarup Basak

Mr. Singh lives a wealthy lifestyle in a mansion named 'Ashiana' on 10th Road, Juhu, Bombay, with his only relative, a niece by the name of Nisha, who is unmarried and runs the family's business that faces strong opposition from Khanna Group of Industries. Singh would like to see her get married but she hates wealthy men, as she believes wealthy persons don't care about their family and only think of money. The separation of her parents when she was a child is behind this reason. So her uncle finds a poor man, Ajay Srivastav, but subsequently finds out that Ajay is already married and also has three daughters; then he decides to get Nisha married to a TV repairman, Yeshwant Bhosle, who ends up being a multi-millionaire after his invention is marketed, although he used to call him by willingly damaging his own television set. Then he wants her to get married to Viju Guide, a Hyderabad-based Tourist Guide, who finds buried treasure and also ends up a multi-millionaire, although he trapped them to go out together and even made her to offer him a job at her own travel agency in Mumbai (Bombay). Then he wants her to get married to a motor mechanic, Prakash, who, in turn of events, ends up being the only son of wealthy builder, Jayant Amar Nath, and ends up getting married to his sweetheart and neighbor, Rosy. Finally Nisha meets her ideal match in Rukhtapur-based Suraj Singh, a wedding singer/dancer, and gets married to him - not realizing that Suraj is not who he claims to be and she is merely a pawn in a charade that has been created especially to pull wool over her eyes. What unfolds next is a pure journey of laughter.

While patrolling his father's estate, Ravi Kapoor (Mithun Chakraborty) comes across a beautiful girl, Chandni (Zeenat Aman) taking a swim in a nearby lake. He is attracted to her, despite the fact that she is mute. He saves her life from a wild leopard, and they fall in love and get intimate.Fate tragically separates them, and Ravi is led to believe that she is dead. Ravi meets with her look-alike Geeta Khanna in the city; they're attracted to each other and they marry. Years later, they come across a male child, who calls Geeta "mom", and they adopt him. Then Geeta feels sorry for a plain-looking mute woman and decides to hire her. This woman claims that the child is hers, but Geeta shrugs her off. Chandramohan Azad (Jeetendra) is an employee and a union leader. His zeal and hard-work is detested by some of his fellow-workers and his employer, Sinha (Pincho Kapoor). He is framed for the murder of a fellow union worker and sentenced to jail for several years. After his release, he finds out that his brother-in-law, Deshbandhu (Utpal Dutt) is an MLA, and his sister (Seema Deo) is content with the way the things are. Chandramohan's right to assert what is truthful and right is frustrated at every attempt by a corrupt society and law enforcement officers. Although India obtained freedom from the British in 1947, Goa and its territories are still ruled by the Portuguese. A group of revolutionaries want a free Goa and are thus wanted by the Portuguese administration. Among them are Purandare, Narvekar, and Dinanath, and when Dinanath's whereabouts are known to the police, he escapes with his young son Ramdas and goes to their hideout. With Purandare's assistance they manage to escape, but they're shot. A horrified Ramdas watches Purandare shoot his father dead, and this is how he starts hating revolutionaries. Ramdas changes his name to Ronnie, befriends a girl named Julie, and grows up taking up crime as his career. He soon prospers and lets the villagers also prosper with him. Then when the Police Commissioner is shot dead, Ronnie helps the authorities apprehend his killer, a young man named Shekhar. He is arrested, tried in Court, and sentenced to be hanged. At this point Ronnie finds out that the people he assisted in the past are all against him and sympathize with the revolutionaries. This takes him towards the Portuguese government, which makes him a police officer. His first assignment includes killing some senior wanted revolutionaries. He starts to influence the villagers to become like him. When the police commissioner is shot dead, he helps the police apprehend the killer: a revolutionary named Shekhar, who is tried in court, proven guilty, and sentenced to be hanged. To make matters worse, Nisha refuses to marry Ranjeet Ranvir Singh, the man Thakur has chosen for her, for she loves Shiva; and the ultimate showdown between the Thakur and his now grown son, Iqbal, and his first wife. Vikram Singh (Amjad Khan) is caught for possession of drugs but claims he was framed by a business associate named Rajan (Sujit Kumar). Vikram considers Amit (Amitabh), who is a lawyer, a loyal friend and thinks that Amit will get him out of jail. But Amit goes to court and produces witnesses against Vikram, whose drugs business has destroyed countless innocent lives. After release from prison, Vikram kills Rajan and frames his former lawyer Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) for the murder. Vikram asks Amit for help in settling his dispute with Rajan. when Amit gets to Rajan, they have a scuffle and Vikram takes advantage of the confusion and shoots Rajan. Amit is forced to go on the run with wife Janki. At the train station, Amit is forced to hide from the police while the train leaves with Janki inside. The train later derails and Amit thinks Janki is dead. Meanwhile his pregnant wife Janki (Waheeda Rehman) (who had survived the train crash) gives birth to twin sons Guru and Shankar (Both played by Amitabh Bachchan). Unfortunately, she becomes separated from one of her sons Guru when her son is stolen by a barren couple. With her husband on the run and one son missing, Janki is forced to raise Shankar on her own. Amit thinks his wife Janki is dead, so he tries to lead a normal life using the name Rana Ranveer and is living with his adopted daughter Manju (Parveen Babi). Many yrs ago, Amit had saved Manju from some kidnappers who had shot her father and since then they are together. But Janki is living in another city with Shankar who has become a police inspector. Shankar is also after the drug trade and is tracking smuggler Prem (Shakti Kapoor) who happens to be Vikram's son. Prem was using Manju as a courier and stops her after she had exited the airport with the drugs in her purse. But Shankar intervenes and beats Prem in hand-to-hand combat. Shankar arrests Manju as a drug smuggler. Janki arrives at the police station and bails out Manju, saying that she knows Manju is the daughter of rich and famous Rana Ranveer Singh, based in Nepal. Manju had come to Delhi to meet Janki, as Janki is a sculptor and Manju wants a bust of her late father. Manju starts dating Shankar. Guru had been brought up by a barren couple father (Mukri) and mother (Urmila Bhatt) and grows up to be a theatre actor. His foster parents want Guru to wed Rita (Zeenat Aman), who is the granddaughter of Rai Sahib (Ashok Kumar). Rita doesn't want to get married, but Rai Sahib is adamant that he will donate the entire wealth to orphanages, if Rita refuses to see prospective candidates. Rita agrees, but then proceeds to insult all grooms, including Guru. Rai Sahib is super upset. His doctor advises Rita to pretend that she has married for the sake of her grandfather. Rita finds that Guru is an actor and hires him. Rai sahib likes Guru's style and how he treats the entire world as his theatre. when Guru tries to get close to Rita, she kicks him out. Guru and Rai Sahib team up to make Rita realize that she really loves Guru and wants to marry him. Meanwhile Vikram now partners with Simon Sardar (Kader Khan). A famous necklace goes to auction and Ranveer Singh wants to buy it, as he remembers Janki wanted that necklace. But Vikram has his eyes on it and asks Simon to steal it. But to evade the police, Simon puts the necklace into a hollow statue of an art gallery. The next morning Manju buys the statue for Ranveer and gives it to Shankar, who is heading to Nepal to investigate the theft. At the airport, Shankar runs into Ranveer, and their packages get exchanged. Vikram abducts Shankar from the Kathmandu airport and finds that Shankar looks like Amit. But he can't find the statue or the necklace. Shankar manages to escape in a car, but Vikram chases him in a helicopter and Shankar's car falls off a cliff. Vikram finds Janki's photo in Shankar's luggage and realizes that Shankar is Amit's son. But Shankar survived. After checking at the airport, Simon and Vikram realize that Ranveer and Shankar's parcels got exchanged at the airport. Simon tries to infiltrate Ranveer's house and steal the necklace from the statue but is stung by a cobra. Next, Vikram sends Prem as Shankar to meet Ranveer (Vikram had found Manju's letter in which she said Shankar was going to meet Ranveer). Ranveer sees Janki's photo in Prem (As Shankar's) luggage and believes Prem is his son. Shankar reaches Ranveer and says he is investigating the theft of the necklace. He is astonished to see the statue in Ranveer's house. The discussion is sidelined when Shankar alleges that Ranveer is actually Amit who fled India 25 years ago after committing a murder. Ranveer asks Shankar to leave. Ranveer and Janki have a phone call and Janki also finds that Amit is alive and well in Nepal. Manju reaches home (to celebrate Shankar's Birthday) and finds that it is Prem, staying in her house posing as Shankar. Vikram arrives and abducts Amit, Manju and Janki (when she arrives in Nepal). Janki manages to escape and hides in a marriage function. The wedding is of Guru and Janki thinks it is Shankar. Guru's foster parents declare Janki as mad, but Rai Sahib's doctor is there, who was also Janki's doctor at her delivery. She confirms that Janki had twins and she gave one of the twins to Guru's foster dad as his foster mom had again given birth to a stillborn child. Guru goes to meet Ranveer/Amit and Shankar. But at the Haveli, he finds the cobra, who gives the necklace to Guru. Inside the Haveli, Guru and Shankar meet (Shankar had come to meet Manju and Janki). Guru tells the entire story to Shankar. Meanwhile Vikram's goons abduct Janki and Rita from the wedding. Shankar goes to Vikram and asks him to let Amit and Janki go to the Haveli and get the necklace. Vikram sees Prem with them. At the Haveli, Guru is dressed as Amit and goes back with Prem, leaving the real Amit and Janki safely behind. Vikram finds that the necklace is a fake and has already abducted Janki and Amit from the Haveli. Climax ensues. Nepal police arrives and arrests Vikram and his goons. Shankar keeps a drug injection away from Vikram and forces him to admit the truth that Vikram killed Rajan, and not Amit. The movie celebrated golden jubilee (3 shows) in South India and in rest of the India it celebrated silver jubilee (3 shows). When premiered in Sony TV in the year 2009, it earned highest TRP.

Unaware of his parents, as he was abandoned as a young child, Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky grows up amidst hatred. The only affection he receives is from the local school-teacher, Shakarbaba, and a young girl named Aarti. Vicky educates himself by reading all possible books. He keeps in touch with Aarti, and they grow up in love with each other. On the day Vicky decides to propose for marriage to Aarti, she is sold by her lecherous uncle for a few thousand rupees, to a group of men who attempt to rape her, but she kills herself. Enraged by this, Vicky hunts down her uncle, and her molesters and kills them by throwing from a high-rise building. Vicky's anger prompts him to more daredevil deeds, and he ends up becoming the ultimate underworld don with a private army of his own. Then one of his associates, Neera, gets married to CBI Officer Kumar Sahni, and Vicky is on the run, and believed to be dead when his bullet-proof crashes. Years later Neera comes to visit her in-laws in a small town, and is introduced to a kind and saintly person with special powers for healing named Shradhanand. She is shocked to find that Shradhanand is none other than Vicky. He goes to her residence one morning to show her the photographs taken on his yacht. The next day Ramesh is arrested by the police and charged with sexually assaulting Bharti. He hires a advocate named Chandra, and enters a plea of not guilty, stating that both had consensual sex. The Court hears the arguments as well as the testimony from none other than Bharti's sister, Neeta, and exonerates Ramesh. Two years later, Bharti is arrested by the police for killing Ramesh in cold blood. Sir John Locksley, the greatest jewel thief, decides his most prized possession, the Shalimar Ruby, should be passed on to a worthy successor. He invites the best rival jewel thieves to his island estate to participate in a deadly contest. On the run from the police, S.S. Kumar (Dharmendra), a thief, comes across a private invitation to the island of Sir John Locksley (Sir Rex Harrison) addressed to Raja Bahadur Singh (Prem Nath). When the Raja is shot, Kumar takes him to a nearby hospital, dons a Sikh's turban, poses as the Raja's son and goes to the private island of John. Also attending are K.P.W. Iyengar (O.P. Ralhan), Dr. Bukhari (Shammi Kapoor), Colonel Columbus (John Saxon), and Countess Rasmussen (Sylvia Miles). A stunned Kumar finds out that all of these invitees are master criminals and gangsters. Kumar's guise does not fool anyone, including his former sweetheart, Sheila Enders (Zeenat Aman), nevertheless John permits him to stay on, as he feels that Kumar's career, though an amateur, is consistent with those already present. The reason why John has invited them is to find a successor to take his place as he is dying of cancer. He feels that one of his invitees can be trusted to take his place and for this he has arranged for them to steal a diamond (shalimar) worth one hundred thirty-five crores of rupees. This gem is placed in a secure place within his palace, which is alarmed, and guarded by armed men twenty-four hours a day. He challenges one of them to steal the shalimar, but if anyone fails then he or she is killed instantly. Truth, beauty and Godliness are subjective and humans have not been able to find an objective definition for either through centuries of search. It is a human's love, faith and devotion that gives any meaning to any of the 3. The story is set in a village where Roopa (Zeenat Aman) lives with her father, the village priest Pandit Shyam Sunder (Kanhaiyalal). Roopa is unconsidered a jinx as her mother died while giving birth to her. Bansi (A. K. Hangal) is Roopa's uncle and protects her from Pandit's wrath. Pandit wanted a boy and hence hated Roopa as a burden on himself. From the very early age, Roopa had a fabulous voice and she supported her father, the temple priest, in conducting religious ceremonies for patrons, which requires singing devotional songs. Still, the priest does not value Roopa and does not even celebrate her birthday as he says that he lost his wife the same day and does not know how to celebrate that day. As a young child (Padmini Kolhapure), the right side of Roopa's face and neck were burned by a pot of boiling oil which she spilled on herself while cooking a meal for her father. She was cooking the meal on occasion of her birthday, which Bansi insisted should be celebrated, leaving part of her face disfigured. Due to this dis-figuration, she is unmarried and everyone in the village pities her. Henceforth, Roopa keeps her right cheek hidden under the veil of her sari. Despite the terrible accident, Roopa remains religious and goes to the village temple daily, singing hymns and devotional songs. Pandit is eager to get Roopa married as she is old enough, but Shastri (Subroto Mahapatra), Roopa's prospective father-in-law & Shastri's son (Javed Khan) demand a hefty dowry to take her on. Despite the cruelty of her own father, Roopa understands her fate and says that she is resigned to stay at home and does not want Shyam to exert himself in his old age to gather money for her dowry. Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) is a dashing engineer who arrives in the village to oversee the operation of a major dam. He lives in a guest house managed by dam supervisor Bade Babu (David Abraham Cheulkar) and Bade Babu's wife (Leela Chitnis). Jai Singh (Vishwa Mehra) is the supervisor. Rajeev's mom and dad have already passed away. Rajeev abhors anything ugly and he even gets scared when he sees his optically disfigured face in mirrors at the village fair. He hears Roopa's lovely singing at the temple and then later at the inauguration function of the new dam and meets her when she arrives at the temple again early morning. Rajeev does not see her disfigured side, and falls in love with her. Village belle Champa (Sheetal) is also in love with Rajeev. Rajeev mistakes Champa for Pooja and expresses his love for her. When he realizes she is not Pooja, he runs away, angering Champa. Rajeev continues to pursue Roopa during her morning singing sessions at the temple. He follows her to a waterfall where he watches her bathe and return to the temple. Rajeev introduces himself to Roopa and it is clear that he is attracted to her. Roopa hides her hideous side from Rajeev. One day Roopa and Rajeev both share a sensuous moment under the waterfall, where Pooja also finds herself attracted to Rajeev. Rajeev kisses her that day. He wants to sleep with her, but Roopa says she will have sex only after marriage. Rajeev then asks her father's permission to marry her. Roopa does not want to cheat Rajeev because she loves him deeply and first request his father to reject the marriage proposal. But everyone from the village (including the Panchayat) request her to change her mind. They even donate funds for her wedding festivities and thereby she agreed to get married to Rajeev thinking he may accept her with her condition as he claimed to love her truly. After the wedding, Rajeev discovers the truth and thinks that he was cheated and forced to marry someone else, at which point he disowns Roopa and drives her out of the house. Rajeev roams around the village at the wedding night in search of another Roopa, as he think there is another girl with the same name, waiting for him. On the other side, after being rejected by Rajeev at their wedding night, Roopa decides to commit suicide but rescued by Rajeev, when he thought he found the girl he fall in love with, not his wife. After being rescued, Roopa decides to meet him at night, using a veil to hide the scarred side of her face. Rajeev spends his days ignoring his wife, and his nights loving his mistress including having sex with her in the darkness of night, not knowing they are both the same woman. Rajeev's servant Jaisingh notices that Roopa is meeting Rajeev as his mistress at night. During one of their nights together, they make love and Roopa gets pregnant. When Rajeev finds out that his wife is pregnant, he accuses her of infidelity and refuses to believe that his "mistress" and wife are the same. He publicly shames her and wont relent even when Jaisingh also confirms that Rajeev's wife is Roopa and there is no other girl, and sends her back to her home. Seeing it, Roopa's father dies out of agony. Roopa vows that she will never ever return to Rajeev as his mistress. A terrible storm ravages the village, breaking open the dam which Rajeev had come to repair. The village is being evacuated as the dam's shutters are opening. In the swirling waters of the flood, Rajeev sees how shallow he has been. He finds his wife singing a lovely song in her sweet voice and comes to the realization that Roopa and his wife are the same woman, and saves Roopa from drowning. The dam waters flood the village and break the bridge that the villagers were using to cross over to the other side and safety. Once safe in the vicinity of the temple, Rajeev ask for Roopa's forgiveness and accepts Roopa as his wife.

Bharat faces challenges in leading his family after taking the responsibilities following his father's death. After the retirement of his dad, the onus is on Bharat to look after the Delhi-based family. He has two younger college-going brothers, Deepak and Vijay, and a sister of marriage age, Radha. Bharat is a graduate, but is unable to secure any employment, much to the frustration of his girlfriend, Sheetal. Vijay takes step to secure his own future, by turning to crime, which is strongly opposed by Bharat, and as a result Vijay leaves the house. Mohan is Sheetal's boss, and finds her very attractive. When he proposes marriage, she accepts, and soon both are engaged. Pregnant Reshmi decides not to have the baby after she wins a beauty pageant. But her husband Rohit doesn't agree, so she walks out of the marriage. Now, Rohit must try to win her back. Middle-classed young and dashing Rohit Kumar Saxena falls in love with wealthy and lovely Reshmi, and both decide to get married. Reshmi's dad, the wealthy Diwan Sardarilal is strongly opposed to this marriage, but relents when Reshmi refuses to marry anyone else. As a result, Rohit and Reshmi get married. Shortly after their marriage, Reshmi gets pregnant, news that is very well received. Then Reshmi enters a beauty pageant, and wins it - being crowned Miss India, with offers to travel abroad. Reshmi decides that she does not want the child now, but Rohit opposes this decision. Both quarrel, and separate, and Reshmi goes back to live with her dad. Shortly thereafter, Sardarilal sends a legal notice to Rohit asking for a divorce. Devastated, Rohit seeks employment, and finds it as a station master at a remote hill station. He meets with Reshmi and her dad, and is humiliated because he is poor. He decides to accumulate enough money to win back Reshmi's love, and decides to do it quickly. This decision results in his being arrested for stealing a suitcase full of jewelery and valuables, and he is also charged with killing the owner of the suitcase - a Miss Sonia.
