After the failed launch of GSLV-F06 on 25 December 2010, due to a small mistake by Project Director Tara Shinde (Vidya Balan), Rakesh Dhawan (Akshay Kumar), a fellow scientist working with her, takes the blame for her. As a result, he is relocated to work on Mangalyaan as punishment. The MoM (Mars Orbiter Mission) is thought of as an impossible mission by his coworkers due its aim of reaching Mars with its tight budget. The new GSLV missions are given to Rupert Desai (Dalip Tahil), an ex-NASA scientist of Indian origin. The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is thought of as an impossible mission by his coworkers due to its aim of reaching Mars with its tight budget. Rupert Desai is the ex-NASA director and has been hired by ISRO to consult its strategic approach. Rupert advises borrowing technology from NASA and avoiding duplicating tech in ISRO, but Rakesh is staunchly against that, and advocates make in India. ISRO Director Shrikant Bhosle (Vikram Gokhale) is a balanced person and takes Rakesh's idea into due consideration. Tara is also caught up at home between constant feuds between her husband Sunil (Sanjay Kapoor) and her son Dilip (Rohan Joshi), the latter showing an interest in his namesake A. R. Rahman and Islam. Dilip has another interest in the Mars Mission. Tara, meanwhile, joins a new and better team. GSLV, if it had succeeded, could have taken the satellite to Mars as it had a payload of 2.3*10^3 kg. However, recent significant failures of GSLV have jeopardized the planned future missions. Back at home, Tara is badly caught in between balancing her career and her family. One day at home, while frying 'Puris', Tara's maid informs of insufficient gas to cook all the 'Puris', to which Tara tells her to heat the oil and turn off the gas and turn it back on if oil cools down. Which sparks her an idea to launch the MoM using PSLV. She approaches Rakesh with the idea, who is convinced. The duo tries to get the other team members on board, but instead are mocked, though they later are convinced too along with Director of ISRO. The Director likes Rakesh's plan and asks Rupert to provide him and Tara a team. Rupert doesn't give them his best people, but a bunch of juniors, who are considered newbies in their own right. Eka Gandhi (Sonakshi Sinha), who is the propulsion control expert, is introduced as a youngster that hates most Indian things and looks for the first chance to get away to NASA. Spacecraft autonomy designer Neha Siddiqui (Kirti Kulhari), who is struggling with rejection as a result of her inter-communal background despite her divorce while trying hard to find a house. Also, there's the navigation expert Krittika Agarwal (Taapsee Pannu), who is a devoted wife that tends to her ex-serviceman husband Rishi Agarwal (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), who was severely wounded in action. Varsha Pillai (Nithya Menen), the satellite designer and payload expert, battles with her mother-in-law's taunts at home for not being able to bear a child. Parmeshwar (Sharman Joshi) is the payload specialist who believes in astrology and is told to keep away from "Mangal" if he wants to get married. He is a virgin. He decides to stay in the Mars mission team as he is smitten with Eka, who basically is "easy" and sleeps around. Ananth Iyengar (H. G. Dattatreya)- the team's structural engineer, who is trying to complete his pilgrimage to Tirumala with his wife. However, after the announcement of India's second Moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, the mission's budget is cut by 50% to Rs 400 Crores. In between the tight schedule and minuscule budget, Tara and Rakesh continue to work on their MoM project by making several compromises. But they are assigned some experienced specialists to buttress their young team. Kritika abruptly abandons her duties without informing the duo upon learning that Rishi has been severely wounded in action. Tara and Rakesh realize that the rest of the junior scientists working on the project have low morale and motivation to make this mission happen, leading to the team slowing down. Tara soon realizes that in order to meet their budget and schedule, she must make the team members change their attitudes and motivate them to make their dream jobs into a reality. An attempt on her part to pacify her worried husband, Sunil by tracing their daughter Anya, who hasn't arrived home yet, to a night club, eventually culminates in Sunil warming up to the party environment as he throws a comment about nostalgia. This strikes an idea in Tara's head, and the next day, she successfully motivates the team members by reminding them of their childhood passion for science, and they put all their hard-work and energy into resolving the issues with the mission to make it happen. Meanwhile, even as Kritika returns on being reminded by Rishi that she has a duty towards her country too, just like him, Varsha happens to be pregnant and soon delivers a child, for whom the team makes arrangements at the office itself, while Neha is warmly taken in by Ananth and his wife into their house (where Ananth helps her move on with her troubled past as a wife). The team reduces satellite weight by using a plastic aluminum composite. After a lot of flak, Eka finds a way to get to Mars with 850 kg of fuel. she deletes her application to NASA. The frugality continues when Tara suggests borrowing equipment from Chandrayaan-2 (which has been delayed) to save MoM mission costs. The MoM satellite is finally launched on PSLV on 5 November 2013 and is named Mangalyaan (Sanskrit: Mars-Craft) and is successfully inserted into Earth's orbit. Rakesh and his team celebrate the successful launch. However, while doing the sixth orbit-raising maneuver, the jets fail to launch, pushing the mission 6 days behind. Rupert mocks the team, while Tara continues to keep hope that something will happen. Couple months later, on the way to Mars, the satellite is hit by a solar radiation wave, heavily damaging the communication systems of the satellite. When the team manages to regain communications, they realize that the solar radiation had increased the speed of the satellite and pushed it further, making up the 6 day gap they had incurred while doing the orbital maneuvers with Earth. After spending a 298-day transit to Mars, MOM satellite is inserted into Mars orbit on 24 September 2014, making India the 4th country in the world to do so and the first country to do it in the first attempt.

Two photographers Makrand "Mac" Deendayal Chatpatiya (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam "Sam" Salgaonkar (John Abraham) are doing a photo shoot and they live in Mauritius. Mac does not treat Sam nicely and always talks rudely to him in front of the models, as Mac considers Sam a junior photographer. When Mac's fiance Anjali calls, Mac asks Sam to lie to her that he is not there. Sam tells Anjali that Mac has asked him to lie to her, prompting Anjali to come to the sets to confront Mac. While Mac is shooting the models in exposing poses, his fiance Anjali (Rimi Sen) leaves in disgust due to Mac's closeness to the models. Anjali is a doctor herself. Mac explains to Anjali that photographing is his profession, and he was only teaching the novice models to give the correct pose. Babban is Mac's driver. Their boss Chote Lal Yadav (Viju Khote) calls them into his office and tells them that they are good-for-nothing photographers. Mac and Sam wanted double pay, a company car and an apartment. Mac and Sam blame each other for the poor photographs despite spending Rs 3 Lakhs for the shoot. Sam visits a famous photographer, praising him and asking for a few outstanding shots to enter in an international photography competition on behalf of his company. These stolen shots help Sam to win the world photography competition. He gets promoted, is given ten percent of the prize money of Rs 1 Crore and has his pay doubled (with a paid vacation to USA for a month), whilst Mac receives a demotion to assistant. Sam flies off to the USA to enjoy his holiday (which was given to him by his company), leaving Mac fuming in Mauritius. The chief editor Nageshwar Kapoor (Manoj Joshi) persuades Mac to show up Sam by getting three women to be his fiance, getting a very expensive flat and driving very expensive, imported cars. Following his promise, Mac gets a high-quality flat and gets access to three beautiful air hostesses. His driver, Babban (Rajpal Yadav), is his key to the high life. Not only does Babban gets Mac access to the flat, but he also delivers very high-end cars to impress his fiance. He drives Mac's cars and does all his services for a small amount of liquor every day. The flat belongs to a rich man who had bought it for his daughter. Since the daughter is in the US, the flat remains empty. Mac approaches the landlord Daksh Padgaonkar (Prithvi Zutshi) and gets hired as the caretaker of the apartment. Lastly, Babban gets Mac a housekeeper, Mambo (Paresh Rawal), who has an attitude problem and doesn't care what goes on in the flat so long as his demands are met. Mambo wants all appliances to be arranged for his kitchen work. He wont cook food if there is a cricket match on, he will do his own grocery shopping and he demands that he will not be asked to explain daily expenses in the house. Mac has affairs with each of the three women-Deepti (Daisy Bopanna), Puja (Nargis Bagheri) and Sweety (Neetu Chandra)-and creates chaos as he has to keep track of their individual schedules and make sure that he does not double book. Before the next girl arrives, Mambo has to do all the work to clear the flat of all evidence of the previous girl. Each of the girls have a tussle with Mambo for not listening to them, not following orders and not behaving like a servant. Mac has to delicately balance keeping Mambo happy as well as taking side of his girlfriend. Anjali approaches Nageshwar and bribes him to find Mac's location. Mac convinces Anjali that he is staying at the apartment of his friend since his company him out of the apartment allocated to him. Sam returns from America, only to find his friend turned rival, playing around with three women at once. He tries to upstage his friend and tries out his own luck with the girls. Sam convinces Babban to take him to Mac's apartment and decides to live with him. The arrangement turns into mayhem when it's hard for the two boys to maintain the three girls simultaneously. Sam tries to take over Mac's life by trying to bribe Mambo, Babban & even the chief editor (by trying to get Mac transferred). Sam also finds out from Babban about the owner of flat that Mac is living in and how he got it. However, Mac finds out that San is trying to take over his life. Mac kicks Sam out but reconciles when Sam threatens to go to the real owner of the apartment where Mac is squatting. The next few days are a series of farce when the 3 girls keep coming & going in the apartment & are in the apartment at the same time as well (due to a change in the airline's operating schedules). To top it off Anjali and Mamu come over to the apartment to get Mac's commitment for his wedding to Anjali. It is up to Mac, Sam, Mambo and Babban to somehow keep them apart from running into each other. Mac's original fiance Anjali Bhatnagar learns about Mac's deeds, and it creates a bigger mess. When their cook Mambo leaves, Sam & Mac are caught when Pooja and Deepti come face to face inside the apartment. Their whole game unravels & they begin to realize their mistakes. Mac tries to get back together with Anjali. Sam apologizes on Mac's behalf to Anjali & tells her the whole truth. Anjali was about to board her flight back to India, but sensing sincerity, she decides to stay back & take back Mac when he promises to give up his wayward ways with women.

Vikrant and Preeti are step siblings, as Baldev's children from different mothers. Champaklal (Asrani) is Baldev's lawyer. Baldev himself did not trust Vikrant, but had full faith in Guru. Baldev had left a will in which all his estate was split equally between Vikrant, Preeti, and Guru, which included the diamonds as well. To claim the diamonds, all three benefactors must be present at the bank or, if dead, their death certificates must be presented. If all 3 die, the diamonds will go to Champaklal. And if Champaklal dies, the diamonds will go to an animal welfare trust. Preeti and Guru are married only in name as Baldev got them married. But they do not stay together. Preeti wants to divorce Guru, but he refuses. Shortly after Baldev's death, Vikrant attempts to eliminate Guru by assassinating the Indian home minister in full view of television cameras while disguised as him. Guru flees to the US disguised as someone else to escape prosecution in India. Guru moves to the street where Anmol (Aftab Shivdasani) and his family live. Anmol is married to Mona (Amrita Arora). Anmol is a dentist and his secretary is Tina (Aarti Chabria). Tina is a big fan of mafia dons. Mona is a dominant wife and demands that Anmol does all the housework and also hand over all of his earnings to her. Anmol recognizes Guru from the news as a wanted criminal from India. Guru warns Anmol not to reveal his identity to anyone, especially the police. But Guru likes Anmol and his father-in-law Manilal, and their innocence. Manilal forgets the names of the people around him and also forgets his name too. Manilal cares for Anmol and does not approve of how Mona treats him. Anmol's mother-in-law Paramjeet (Supriya Pilgaonkar) forces him to go to India, along with his father-in-law, Manilal (Paresh Rawal) to tell Vikrant about Guru and get the reward of Rs 2 Crores. Vikrant's goons, Yeda Anna and Chota Chathri, pick up Anmol and Manilal from their India hotel and take them to Vikrant. Anmol sees Preeti and falls in love with her. He is heartbroken to find that Preeti is married to Guru. Everything turns wrong when Vikrant doesn't give the reward and instead sends Anmol and Manilal back to the USA with his hired men, Yeda Anna (Sunil Shetty) and Chota Chathri (Johnny Lever) to kill Guru. Anmol figures out Vikrant's plan and calls Guru from India to warn him. Preeti reaches out to Anmol and says that she wants to divorce Guru in exchange for her share of the diamonds. Anmol admits his feelings to Preeti. Anmol, Manilal, Yeda and Chota return to the US. Later, they find out that Yeda Anna was a double agent: He was working for Guru the whole time because he offered more money. Yeda calls Vikrant, that Anmol's information is correct and asks Vikrant to come to the US. Yeda and Chota are asked to stay with Manilal and Anmol, and they both terrorize their wives who now start respecting their husbands. Yeda and Chota learn that the whole tussle is for diamonds worth Rs 1000 Crores. Yeda is not happy at receiving only Rs 5 Crores from Guru and wants the whole thing. Tina is smitten with Guru and asks Anmol to introduce her to Guru. Tina knows Guru's whole history and Guru is impressed with her. Meanwhile, realizing the Yeda will get the money from Guru, Mona tries to seduce him. The group receive Vikrant and Preeti at the airport and drive to the hotel. At the hotel, Vikrant is kidnapped by a mysterious group of Chinese goons. Yeda Anna receives a phone call and finds out that the kidnapped Vikrant was a duplicate of the real one and the real one was going to come later by a private plane. They kill the second Vikrant (who arrived later by plane) and put his body in a car and leave it by the Brooklyn Bridge. With Vikrant's death, Preeti and Guru each get half of the diamonds. When they are outside the bank, a group of policemen arrest them and take them to an unknown desert area. It is revealed that Vikrant is still alive, as the original Vikrant got himself kidnapped by Chinese goons. Vikrant gets the diamonds and tries to kill Guru. A fight occurs. At the end of the fight, Guru kills Vikrant. When it's all over, the group ask each other to find out who has the diamonds. Anmol has them and says he will give them to Guru if he gives Preeti a divorce. Tina convinces Guru to give the divorce to Preeti. Guru arrives at the location selected by Anmol and gets the diamonds, while giving Anmol the divorce papers. Yeda Anna betrays Guru and tries to steal the diamonds. Guru wins in a fight and gives diamonds worth Rs 5 Crores to Yeda Anna while hanging him to a forklift and having him stand on Chota Chathri's shoulders. In the end, Anmol and his love, Preet, are seen going to India. Anmol's ex-father-in-law gives him some diamonds that he received from Guru as Preeti's share. Preeti comments that she didn't know that Guru was so nice.

Raj (Bobby Deol) and Priya (Kareena Kapoor) meet by chance (Priya was thinking that Raj was stalking her when in reality Priya had walked away with her umbrella at the church) and fall in love after a whirlwind romance. Raj gets a job at the polo club, where Priya's dad (Dalip Tahil) is the chairman. They marry and reside in Switzerland, where they meet another Indian couple: Vikram (Akshay Kumar) and Sonia (Bipasha Basu). The couples quickly become friends and decide to go on a Christmas vacation together to Mauritius. Raj was against going to Mauritius as he is not as wealthy as Vikram. But Vikram fakes an accident and gets a payout of $50K on his accident insurance policy and offers that money to Raj to convince him to come. Priya insists that Raj should go, Raj agrees to wants to pay for his own and Priya's expenses. During their vacation, Raj sees Vikram with another woman, kissing and looking intimate. At the same time, Sonia begins to try to seduce Raj, who rejects her. Vikram notices Raj looking at Sonia and casually talks to him about wife swapping and Vicky casually suggests Raj to enjoy with Sonia and asks whether he (Vicky )could enjoy with Priya overnight , this upsets Raj and an argument breaks out between the two men. Raj takes Priya away from Mauritius. However, a couple of days later Vikram and Sonia also return, Raj & Vikram they resolve their issues and become friends again (Raj saves Vikram's life when a car falls on him when he was working under it for repairs). On Vikram's birthday, the two men celebrate by getting drunk together, sharing bottles of alcohol. Once again, Vikram asks whether he could become Raj for one night, which Raj rebuffs, but still, both men end up in opposite houses. The next day Raj wakes up to find a semi-naked woman in bed and realizes he is in Vicky's house. After talking to Priya about the events from last night, he imagines Vicky was able to seduce and convince Priya to go ahead with his wife swapping and making passionate love throughout the night (Although Priya never said anything to that effect, but her half sentences gave that impression). After some time, Sonia is found dead, and Raj is accused of her murder by Vikram saying that Raj spent the whole night with Sonia and additionally his fingerprints are found on the murder weapon - an alcohol bottle. Priya is shocked as she never did anything with Vikram. In jail, Vikram visits Raj and offers him 14 Lakh dollars if he admits to killing Sonia and takes the punishment of life imprisonment (14 yrs). In court Vikram says that Raj took him to the airport bar after leaving the wives at home. But neither had money, so Raj went back to bring his wallet, but instead went into Vikram's house to sexually assault Sonia. Sonia resisted and Raj killed her. However, one of Raj's neighbors is also in court and he remembers seeing that 2 men entered Vikram's house and not one. Raj alleges in court that he went into Vikram's house to warn Sonia about his errant behavior, but then passed out. Determined to prove his innocence, Raj manages to escape from the court and is chased by the Swiss police. He meets Priya, who eventually believes his innocence and aids him in finding out what really happened. Raj tells Priya that he never went to the airport bar with Vikram and wants to prove this. They meet their neighbor who tells Raj that Vikram left alone that night. But later that night 2 men returned to Vikram's house (when Raj was already inside). He decides to search Vikram's house, only to be interrupted by Vikram, who calls the police and then reveals that everything was planned in advance. Raj escapes in Vikram's car with Priya. Raj finds a boarding pass that belongs to Sonia Bajaj from her book in Vikram's car, which states that Sonia arrived in Zurich on 29 December - however, Sonia was supposedly murdered on that night. Raj suspects her to be the woman he saw with Vikram, traveling to Geneva together. In Geneva, Priya finds the address of the woman who bought the ticket to Zurich for the 29th Dec. At her house, Raj finds an insurance officer who is trying to find evidence that Vikram was involved in the death of his wife, in order to receive her life insurance payment of $100 million. Working with the insurance agent, Raj traces Vikram to a cruise ship. There, he sees Vikram dancing with a woman who is revealed to be 'Sonia', alive and well. Raj confronts Vikram, who finally explains the whole devious plan - the woman whom he kissed in Mauritius was his actual wife Sonia Bajaj (Mink Brar), while the woman with him that Priya and Raj were introduced to in Switzerland is his girlfriend Neeta. Vikram, a struggling musician, married the wealthy and glamorous Sonia and convinced her to take out an insurance plan of $100 million on herself. That night, Vikram went to the airport to pick up the real Sonia. He went to the bar to get a witness that he was there, and slipped out to take Sonia home. The neighbor saw Vikram and Soni entering Vikram's house. Vikram used Raj's champagne bottle to kill Sonia and disfigure her face. Then he put Neeta on the flight to Geneva and went back to the airport bar to stay there till the morning. Vikram boasts about having pinned the murder on Raj. However, Raj takes Vikram to a computer and shows him his empty bank account. Raj says that he had guessed the password, "Everything is planned", something that Vikram used to say a lot, and used it to transfer the money back to the insurance company. Raj also reveals that everything Vikram said had been recorded. A fight erupts between the two and Neeta dies in the conflict. Angered at losing Neeta, Vikram gets aggressive, killing the insurance officer and seemingly kills Raj. He chases Priya to kill her too, but Raj is able to save her. Vikram dies when he is impaled by an anchor from the cruise ship. Raj and Priya return to India in the end.

Trouble ensues when Raja is framed for crimes that actually committed by his evil lookalike Rocky, and the former must prove his innocence and eliminate his nemesis. Mistakenly appointed as a college professor, happy-go-lucky Raja finds the rich girl of his dreams - but must confront a look-alike con man named Rocky to win her father's approval. The plot thickens when Raja pretends to be Rocky, and Rocky pretends to be Raja. Aware of Pooja's anger, Raja dramatizes this situation to his advantage, turning Pooja's anger, to sorrow; and then even more love for him, to the extent of introducing him to her dad, Vidya Prakash (Anupam Kher). Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramakant Chaudhry lives with his wife, Revati and younger son, Vishaal. His eldest son Vikas was murdered by criminals who are still at large. Vishaal tends to be hot-headed and cannot stand injustice in any form which often gets him into trouble now and again. Ramakant's honesty and dedication towards his job starts to create problems for the criminals in Mumbai city so much that he eventually stands accused of killing one of his fellow officers, is arrested and placed before the court of law. In court, Ramakant is proved mentally unstable with orders to be confined to a mental asylum. The same day the police also arrests Vishaal for physically assaulting the Police Commissioner, Desai.
