When Pooja gets pregnant, both Ishwar and Sumitra decide to make Aditya realize his responsibilities, as he will have to take care of his wife and child. They take drastic measures and throw Aditya out of the house along with Pooja. As a result, Aditya and Pooja live in a room at the back of the house in the garden. The force becomes so bad that Aditya begins to hate his father and they do not speak to each other for a long time. At the same time Aditya becomes aware of his role in life. However, Ishwar has done all this for a reason and is hiding something. Ishwar is trying to make sure that his son is secure but because he is suffering from lung cancer and he wants his son to be responsible. Aditya succeeds in becoming a responsible man and also finds out the truth about his father when his father comes for his performance on the stage. He steps on the stage but instead he asks the audience to pray to god to give a minute of their lives to keep his father alive until his son's birth. His father is alive until his son is born and he names the baby boy 'Ishwar' after himself and he dies. The movie reaches its climax with Aditya welcoming children at his father's toy factory and playing with an alone, disabled boy like Ishwar did at the start of the film with his family there including his toddler Ishwar. The spirit of Ishwar touches Sumitra's flowers in her hair and it reminds her of the old times.

Major General Amarjeet Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is a dedicated officer for the Indian army. His son Lieutenant Commander Vikramjeet Singh (Bobby Deol) follows in his footsteps and joins the navy. In 1971 during the Indo-Pak war and the formation of Bangladesh, Vikramjeet has a ship in his command and was carrying a regiment of soldiers of the Indian Army, commandeered by his dad, Major General Amarjeet. Amarjeet had been ordered to enter East Pakistan to stop the slaughter of innocent civilians at the hands of the Pakistani military forces. It was Shiekh Mujibur Rehman, who had requested the Indian Government led by Indira Gandhi to intervene and help save lives. The ship comes under attack by a submarine of the Pakistani Navy and is damaged beyond salvage by torpedoes. Vikram decides to hunt for the submarine, so that it cannot target the remaining ships in their convoy. Eventually, Vikram is successful in destroying the enemy submarine with depth charges, but his ship sinks along with Vikramjeet, but not before he courageously rescues about a hundred of trapped army soldiers, who were stuck in a passage as the exits were jammed shut. Due to Vikram's sacrifice, the Indian army led by Amarjeet reaches East Pakistan and starts pushing the Pakistani army back. Due to the fast attack from Indian Army on all fronts, the Pakistani army surrenders. Amarjeet returns home where Vikram is survived by his wife and a young son. Years later, Vikramjeet's son Kunaljeet (Bobby Deol) joins the army as a Captain, but he lacks the values his dad and grandfather had in them about serving the country selflessly. He just wants to be employed with the army for a couple of years, then re-locate to the U.S., run a business, and make lots of money. In order to accomplish this, he always makes up excuses of not going to the front. Kunal also cheats to win races or other competitions with his colleagues and has no qualms about it. Dr Sakshi (Sandali Sinha) has feelings for Kunal & tries to be close to him, but he simply ignores her. Sakshi knows that Kunal cheats and is not serious about his army career but keeps quiet due to her love for him. Kunal and his unit are posted in Rajasthan. Kunal is a prankster at heart, but always gets away due to his charm and due to the forgiving nature of his friends who consider his antics as harmless fun. Amarjeet is now retired from the army, but the Government uses his services as a special security advisor in Kashmir to manage the escalating tensions on the ground. Kunal falls in love with Shweta Bhansali (Divya Khosla) and decides to stay in the army in order to be close to her. while Kunal has strong feelings for Shweta, but she does not reciprocate them for Kunal. Shweta reveals that she is the virgin widow of Major Rajeev Singh, who departed for the front on their wedding night, never to return. Rajeev was deployed to the Kargil sector and selflessly sacrificed himself to save his troops from a Pakistani assault & was presumed dead. Kunal still wants to marry Shweta & even her family advises her to do so as Kunal is from a good family. Shweta reluctantly accepts, just as Kunal leaves for Kargil. In Kargil, Kunal is ordered to fight with his company to regain occupation of an important hill. The company attacks but leads to heavy losses. Kunal sees a lot of his friends being gunned down by enemy fire as he remains hidden. He is the last man standing & carries the flag to the summit. He is awarded the Sena medal, but Kunal cannot live down the shame that he acted like a coward & several of his dead comrades were more deserving of the medal. He tells the truth to Amarjeet who is deeply disappointed at this selfish behavior of Kunal. Meanwhile, Major Rajeev Singh (Akshay Kumar), who is assumed to be dead but actually is a prisoner of war. He was captured by Pakistani Col Ashfaque Khan (Danny Denzongpa), who tortures Rajeev endlessly to get crucial information on the Kargil war. Rajeev returns back alive after he challenges Ashfaque to hand-to-hand combat & beats him & then escapes from captivity with his fellow prisoners, with the help from a Pakistani army sympathizer. Upon return, Rajeev takes Shweta home & finds out about Kunal's feelings for Shweta, through a letter that he had written to her in the past. By chance, Kunal is assigned to protect the Amarnath shrine route, under Major Rajeev Singh. In order to achieve a medal, Kunal fakes heroism, then carelessly jeopardizes a planned attack on terrorists and as a result several terrorist escape to their hideouts. Disciplined and chastised, an injured and humbled Kunaljeet awaits to meet his sweetheart - only to find out that she is in love and married to his senior Officer Major Rajeev Singh. The only thread binding Kunal to the army is broken when he finds that Shweta is with Rajeev now. Kunal is heartbroken & confines himself to the field hospital & refuses to take part in combat at the front lines. On the front Amarjeet is working with Rajeev to secure the religious pilgrimage route. It is then Kunaljeet finds out that the terrorists in collusion with rebel Pakistani officers are planning to bomb the Bhagwan Shivji's Amarnath Temple in Jammu & Kashmir in order to ferment communal strife. Due to the breakdown in communication, he is unable to get the message to Rajeev, so Kunal sets off himself to warn Rajeev & Amarjeet. Kunal finds that the terrorists are using a particular horse to get RDX inside the shrine & blow it up. Amarjeet & Rajeev, also figure this out but too late. Kunal reaches just in time to apprehend the RDX from the horse & throws it away from the crowd, where is explodes harmlessly. Kunal is about to die but is saved by his grandfather & all of them fight together to defeat the terrorists. Kunal goes with Dr Sakshi, as he has no other choice.

Anu Gaekwad (Madhu Sapre), Sheila Bardez (Padma Lakshmi) and Rina Kaif (Katrina Kaif) are three of India's top models and they are participating in a fashion show hosted by a prestigious brand of diamond jewelers. While on the ramp of the fashion show, one of the other models Michelle (perhaps intentionally) trips Anu (as Anu was chosen as the showstopper over her), and she goes crashing down, which is a model's worst nightmare. Anu's supportive friends, Sheila and Rina, come to the rescue. The trio immediately confront Michelle who had tripped Anu and the argument (held in front of the audience) degenerates into a cat-fight. As the young ladies' scuffle with each other, they are met with a big surprise. Hundreds of glittering stolen diamonds, which were due to be smuggled out of the country, fall from Michelle's hair and on to the ramp, only to be snatched up by paparazzi and celebrities alike. Anu, Sheila and Rina are in shock as the fashion show turns to mayhem. They read in the papers the next day that the diamonds were worth a fortune. The models themselves are highly accomplished, smart and intelligent women, who share an apartment in Mumbai. Anu says that she knows that Michelle was booked on a flight to Dubai right after the fashion show. This means that the diamonds belonged to someone else, and Michelle was just a courier. The stolen diamonds are priceless and have to be recovered by the gangsters, who hold the three glamorous models responsible for the heist-gone-wrong. The diamonds were due to be smuggled to Dubai and were stolen from Chhote Mia / Abdul 50-50 (Jackie Shroff). Chhote spends all of his time in a drug infused haze. Boom Shankar (Javed Jaffrey) is Chhote Mia's right-hand man and is ordered to get the diamonds back at all costs. The diamonds were then to be handed to his brothers. The leader of the trio, Bade Mia (Amitabh Bachchan) based in Dubai, is determined to get the diamonds back. Medium Mia / Cutpiece Salim Suiting Shirting (Gulshan Grover) is the 3rd brother, who was adopted when bade Mia's parents took pity on him. In secret Bade Mia hates Medium Mia, and Medium hates Bade, hopes to kill him and one day rule Bade's illegal business empire that he runs from Dubai. Medium tells Bade that Michelle has run away and that it is beyond Chhote to get the diamonds back. Alice (Zeenat Aman) is Bade Mia's secretary and is competent enough to run his entire empire by herself but will still dance for the boss. Bharti (Seema Biswas) is a maid that works for the 3 models. Bharti believes that the 3 models have stolen the diamonds. Boom Shankar and Chhote threaten the models to return the diamonds, or they will sell them into prostitution. The 30 diamonds were worth between Rs 50 Crores and Rs 100 Crores. The going rate for the 3 girls would be around Rs 15 Lakhs per night, and it would taken 312.5 nights to off Chhote. Bade and Medium Mia discuss the financial situation of their loss-making hotels business, which is down $67 million for the financial year. Bade kills the manager of one of their hotels for a severe deficiency in service. The girls decide to do a fashion show, with designer Wendell Rodricks. They reckon that the fashion show will attract the same people who stole the diamonds and it might be easier to recover the same. But the fashion show is a flop, when due to bad weather, all the guests run away. Chhote sends a plane full of young women to Dubai to fuel the prostitution business in Dubai, but lately Bade Mian is not happy with the quality of the women supplied by Chhote. Bade admonishes Chhote that the women he is sending have bigger mustaches than Bade himself. Meanwhile both Bade and Medium are separately talking to Chhote about the diamonds, without telling each other. Boom Shankar & Chhote decides to take them to Dubai as a gift to Bade. But the girls refuse. Shankar says that if they decide not to go, they will have to rob a bank to pay back Chhote. Unknown to anyone Bharti is having sex with Shankar and is working on behalf of the models. Bharti doesn't believe that the models can pull off the bank heist and gives them a little drugs to give them courage and lower their risk barriers. As per Shankar's instructions, the girls rob the bank and steal a briefcase from Chottu Ramu, which has diamonds in it. They also kidnap Motu Ramu (who had the briefcase chained to his wrist and the girls assume that he had the diamonds) & tell Shankar that he told them to kidnap Motu Ramu, who had no diamonds on him. Shankar is livid that his instructions were to kidnap Chottu, not Motu. The girls had also mistakenly shot Chottu Ramu, who was acting as courier for Bade Mian and transporting the diamonds without the knowledge of Medium. Now, the girls have the diamonds, which do not reveal to Shankar. But apparently the girls were working under Chhote Mian's instructions, to kill Chottu Ramu. Anju seduces Chhote. Chhote then ships the girls off to Dubai, where they start seducing Medium and Bade and start to turn them against each other. They convince Bade that Medium conducted both the robberies and convince Medium that Chhote was behind both the capers. Everything goes down in a meeting between the 3 brothers where they end up shooting each other. It turns out the whole thing was orchestrated by Alice, who has now taken over the business. The girls sell the diamonds for $ 10 million and retire on their own island. Boom Shankar now dances for Alice.

Ajay (Akshay Kumar), their only son who was studying abroad and has graduated from university, received an academic degree in Information Technology and came back home now. Daughters are Priti (Juhi Chawla), Priya (Simone Singh) and Rani. Ladoo Mama (Shakti Kapoor) is Pratima's brother and lives with Vijay. Ladoo is dating Sweety Aunty (Kunika). Brij (Anang Desai) is a family friend of Vijay. Jagmohan Thappar (Alok Nath) is a business competitor, but on friendly terms with Vijay. Rajesh Purohit (Mohnish Bahl) enters the family, and deviously impresses Vijay with his efficiency, and his eldest daughter Priti (Juhi Chawla) with his charm, whereas his main goal is to impoverish their family and take over Vijay's fortune. Soon, Vijay approves the marriage of Priti and Rajesh who becomes a son-in-law who stays at home. Meanwhile, Ajay falls in love with Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) and plans to marry her. Nisha is Jagmohan's daughter. At first Ajay finds a 100 flaws in Nisha and tells her that she has no sense of dressing. Nisha converts herself to a traditional Indian girl and meets Ajay. Now AJay is interested in her, but Nisha says now she can get any decent guy she wants and starts dating Suniel Shetty to make Ajay jealous. The whole family goes on a picnic to woo Nisha and it turns out that Suniel is Nisha's brother and was only acting to make Ajay jealous. Vijay convinces Ajay to first gain experience in the family business, even though Ajay wants to start his own business. However, ideological differences result in disputes between the two. Hari Singh (Ashish Vidyarthi) is a factory supervisor & union leader who mistreats his workers & gambles during working hours and Ajay sees this. Ajay confronts Hari, who is rude and dismissive towards Ajay. When Hari hits Rajesh, Ajay retaliates and beats Hari. Hari calls a strike. Vijay tells Ajay that he knows everything about Unions and he still ignores this and uses the union for his own purposes. He wants Ajay to apologize to Hari. Vijay forces Ajay to apologize to Hari. Consequently, Ajay stands firm in his decision to start his own business. He asks his father for economic assistance. When Vijay refuses to do so, Ajay takes a loan. When Vijay discovers this, he is furious and throws Ajay out of the house (Rajesh tries to talk to Ajay into accepting Vijay's money and Ajay tells him to get out of his room. Rajesh decides to leave the house (pretending to be offended of being told to leave the house), but Vijay throws out Ajay instead). Ajay finally marries Nisha and they move into their new house. Jagmohan refuses to support Ajay, but Nisha goes against him & marries Ajay. Rajesh makes Vijay sign a power of attorney, without his knowledge, hidden in a stack of normal papers. This is how Vijay goes bankrupt, and all his fortune goes automatically to Rajesh. The lenders arrive at Vijay's doorstep asking for their money back, else they will liquidate all of Vijay's properties, including his house. Rajesh reveals his true nature and it emerges, he was in cahoots with Hari and the money lenders (he had mortgaged the properties for list price, but pocketed half the amount himself). Rajesh knew that Ajay never asked him to leave the house, only his room, but Rajesh deliberately overplayed the incident to get Vijay to throw Ajay out of the house. Priti overhears all this and is shocked. As Ajay finds out what happened, he gets that Rajesh was the one who had incited arguments between the two. Ajay tries to get close to his father again, which causes a crisis in his relationship with Nisha, who is not pleased with Ajay's reunion with his family. Ajay and Nisha get separated due to consistent arguments between them, and while she finds out that she is pregnant, Ajay has already returned home. His mission now is to return his family fortune and his father's faith, as the latter still cannot forgive him their dispute. Vijay and Ajay eventually become reconciled, although he is yet to return the fortune. They get a stay order on the house auction and buy some time to figure the mess out. Vijay rules out harming Rajesh as that would impact Priti. Rajesh begins to treat Priti badly (after Ajay confronts Rajesh and beats him up), and she also comes back home. Ajay is asked by Vijay to get Nisha back home (she had gone to her father after the tiff). But when Ajay arrives there, Jagmohan asks him to sign divorce papers. Ajay brings Nisha home in exchange (in a deal made with Jagmohan only) for signing the divorce papers and asks her not to reveal the truth to his family. But Nisha is shocked when Ajay actually does sign the papers and hands them to Nisha, who goes back home with her dad. As auction is imminent, the factory workers finally realize that they are going to lose everything. They beat up Hari for conspiring against Vijay and his business. Ajay saves Hari and he is grateful. The workers pool their savings and their houses to gather enough cash to buy the factory and the house at the auctions. Ladoo bids against Rajesh at the auction and the winning bid is Rs 125 Crores. Now Ajay has 2 days to pay the money. Ajay then decides to return his family fortune violently (with the full force of all the factory workers) and forces Rajesh to sign another power of attorney which says that the money comes back to Vijay. Vijay uses the money to pay the auction bill. Priti, in a letter tells Rajesh that she can never forgive him for the atrocities he inflicted on her family and orders him to leave for good. Nisha reunites with Ajay when she learns that the divorce was not mutual and was engineered by her father, and the family finally comes together and lives happily as it used to be before.

Major Ajit is sent to nab ex-Army officer Colonel Sodhi, who is hiding in the guise of Devraj Hathoda. Major Balbir Singh Sodhi (Amitabh Bachchan) attempts to kill Indian Home Minister Veer Bhadra Singh (Danny Denzongpa) but is unsuccessful. He has been identified, and the Army is on the lookout for him to court-martial him. They suspect that he has assumed a new identity, that of Devraj Hathoda alias Dadabhai. Major Ajit Arya (Nana Patekar) is assigned the task to investigate this, and he successfully manages to lure Balbir into admitting his true identity. Then Balbir clarifies to Ajit what the motive was behind his assassination attempts on the Home Minister, and Ajit decides to join forces with Balbir to expose the Home Minister. Then terrorist Ghafoor Changezi announces that no worshipper will be permitted to visit the Holy Shrine of Mata Sheravali during the Navratri Fest, and the Home Minister accepts the challenge, to make himself even more popular.
