Nageshwar, popularly known as ``Don`` is the director of a vast criminal empire. His son, Ajay (Ajay Devgn), who is well aware of his father`s business, doesn`t particularly mind it. However, Ajay`s wife Pooja (Madhoo) does not approve to an extent of wanting to put an end to it. However, when Nageshwar finds himself aging, he has to put Ajay at the helm of the business, Pooja`s opposition notwithstanding. Some of Nageshwar`s associates are upset with his choice, as they were als eyeing the position. In order to work a negotiation, they kidnap Ajay`s son. What will Nageshwar do now?

Ram comes from a poor family, and works as a labourer for a living. One day he comes across an old woman in distress, and decides to assist her. This old woman is dying and asks Ram to promise to look after her young and destitute daughter, Radha, and Ram does so. Eventually, Ram and Radha get married and sire a baby boy. One day the child becomes seriously ill, and Radha goes to Ram's place of employment to get him to assist the child. Akash is a honest and educated young man, employed by the Bombay Municipal Corporation as a clerk. He lives with his equally honest brother, his sister-in-law, a niece, Sharda, and a nephew. Due to Akash's honesty he becomes a liability to his corrupt superiors. One day they find fault with his work, and dismiss him. When Akash attempts to assert himself legally, he finds that there is corruption everywhere. In retaliation, even his brother is implicated in a crime, and arrested.
