Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoothi follows the story of a group of four best friends, all the way from their school days to adulthood. The comedy portrays the boys` escapades as they deal with trials of love and life.

Aadhavan (Suriya) is a hired assassin who works in tandem with Ibrahim Rowther (Sayaji Shinde) and his son (Anand Babu) in Kolkata. Justice Subramaniyam (late Malayalam actor Murali), is about to give his final judgment in an organ trade case where hundreds of children died due to the greed of a doctor, Abdul Kulkarni (Rahul Dev). Kulkarni approaches Rowther with a contract to kill the judge and Aadhavan starts his next mission. But for the first time in his life, the ace assassin misses his hit. To correct his mistake, he enters the house of the Judge as a servant with the help of Bannerji (Vadivel). Aadhavan tries to kill the Judge several times, failing every time. However, there is more than what meets the eye. A shocking revelations awaits at the end of the film.

``Polladhavan`` is a mixture of all the genres including action, romance and humor. Dhanush plays Prabhu, a youth from a lower middle class family with dreams and aspirations to make it big in life. He eventually succeeds in realising his dreams. But soon things take a turn for the worse. How he fights against all odds is the crux of the story.
