Nandu works hard as a farmer living off one crop to another, setting his eyes towards the sky praying for timely rain. However, his debt keeps rising by the day, including the worry of an unmarried sister in the family. Nandu is joined by his friend from the city, Rajaram, who comes to the village out of compulsion, but with big hopes of growing a crop with limited resources. Like a good friend he comes to the rescue of Nandu, during his hard times, but that support is not enough to shoulder the burden falling on Nandu.

Nandu (Bobby Deol) is an orphan turned assassin. He`s framed for a politician`s murder and is on the run. While travelling on a train, he meets Puran (Akshay Kapoor), who is on his way to his hometown after fourteen years. They talk through the journey and Puran tells Nandu all about his joint family and the wedding of a cousin that he is on his way to attend. Soon, the police catch up with Nandu and shoot him. But unfortunately Puran takes the bullet while shielding his new friend and dies on the spot. Nandu goes to Puran`s family home to return his grandfather`s watch and also to inform his family of his tragic death. But, in their joyful state amidst the celebrations, they presume that Nandu is Shekhar and drag him full on into it. Preet is a friend of the family and falls in love with Nandu on first sight. Nandu also likes her but CBI Inspector Rane is all out to look for the politician`s murderer. Will Nandu ever ride over the crisis? Who is the actual killer? What happens to Nandu and Preet`s love?

A couple visits the husband's family in India and finds itself in the middle of a fratricidal battle. Settled in Canada, of Indian origin, Nandini and Shekhar live a fairly harmoniously and busy lifestyle with their young child. While Nandini has family in Canada, Shekhar has no one to call his own. Then one day there is breaking news of violence in India, and that's when Shekhar asks Nandini to accompany him to India as he fears that his parents may have been in killed. Nandini is shocked to find out that Shekhar does have family, but had never discussed this with her, nevertheless she accompanies him. Out of this concern, she gets into a couple of very intense confrontations with her father-in-law leading to a very intense situation within the family. Unfortunately, her father-in-law is tricked by his politician associate into sending Shekhar to meet the collector, and brutally murdered by the enemy family. Nandini is heart-broken and wants to leave for Canada immediately. But, her father-in-law now insists on keeping her son with him. She dislikes this decision, but to no avail, as he is strong and extremely stubborn, so, she tries to escapes on her own. After two failures, she is locked up in an outhouse. What will happen to her? Major Ajit is sent to nab ex-Army officer Colonel Sodhi, who is hiding in the guise of Devraj Hathoda. Major Balbir Singh Sodhi (Amitabh Bachchan) attempts to kill Indian Home Minister Veer Bhadra Singh (Danny Denzongpa) but is unsuccessful. He has been identified, and the Army is on the lookout for him to court-martial him. They suspect that he has assumed a new identity, that of Devraj Hathoda alias Dadabhai. Major Ajit Arya (Nana Patekar) is assigned the task to investigate this, and he successfully manages to lure Balbir into admitting his true identity. Then Balbir clarifies to Ajit what the motive was behind his assassination attempts on the Home Minister, and Ajit decides to join forces with Balbir to expose the Home Minister. Then terrorist Ghafoor Changezi announces that no worshipper will be permitted to visit the Holy Shrine of Mata Sheravali during the Navratri Fest, and the Home Minister accepts the challenge, to make himself even more popular.
