Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) lives in Karol Bagh, New Delhi with his sister Sania (Asin Thottumkal). They are legally fighting for their ancestral property but the odds turn against them and they lose. Their well wisher, Shastri Chacha, advises and convinces them to migrate to his village Ranakpur. He assures Abbas that he will get him a job at his owner`s place, the owner being none other than the powerful Prithviraj Raghuvanshi (Ajay Devgn). But an incident occurs which compels Abbas to cook up a lie. From here starts a series of cover-ups, goof-ups and comic situations where to cover one lie, Abbas starts padding up with a bigger lie.

A bunch of misfits and gangsters embarks on a journey to find a lost and stolen diamond. Raja lives in Dubai, U.A.E. and is a career-criminal, partnered by his girlfriend, Tina, and her maternal uncle, Chobey. Raja also makes additional money by masquerading as Rahul, the son of Lajwanti, who was killed in an accident. Since Chobey owes money to a gangster named Moscow Chikna, Raja decides to help him out by arranging the abduction of Rocky, a jewel thief, who has a priceless diamond in his possession. If Raja and his gang do not bring this diamond to Moscow Chikna, he has sworn to cut off their arms. When another gangster, JD, finds out about the diamond, he asks them to bring the diamond to him or else he will cut off their legs. The trio abduct Rocky - only to be threatened by a London-based gangster, Chokshi, who has recruited Gunmaster G9, who has threatened to cut off their respective necks if the diamond is not surrendered to Chokshi. Chaos prevails as the hapless trio, their lives complicated by the bumbling Kuttu Pilot, hustle to save their lives - in vain attempts to try and pacify the three gangsters.

There is also a fifth admirer of Natasha namely Sunny Khurana, also from her college days in Bombay, who will do anything to get married to her. Two photographers Makrand "Mac" Deendayal Chatpatiya (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam "Sam" Salgaonkar (John Abraham) are doing a photo shoot and they live in Mauritius. Mac does not treat Sam nicely and always talks rudely to him in front of the models, as Mac considers Sam a junior photographer. When Mac's fiance Anjali calls, Mac asks Sam to lie to her that he is not there. Sam tells Anjali that Mac has asked him to lie to her, prompting Anjali to come to the sets to confront Mac. While Mac is shooting the models in exposing poses, his fiance Anjali (Rimi Sen) leaves in disgust due to Mac's closeness to the models. Anjali is a doctor herself. Mac explains to Anjali that photographing is his profession, and he was only teaching the novice models to give the correct pose. Babban is Mac's driver. Their boss Chote Lal Yadav (Viju Khote) calls them into his office and tells them that they are good-for-nothing photographers. Mac and Sam wanted double pay, a company car and an apartment. Mac and Sam blame each other for the poor photographs despite spending Rs 3 Lakhs for the shoot. He threatens to reduce their pay if they don't get some good pictures for the world press photography competition to make his magazine Garam Masala famous. Sam lives with Mac in his apartment. Both Mac and Sam ask Maggie (Neha Dhupia), the boss's secretary, on a date on the same day, at the same restaurant at the same time. Actually, Maggie was talking to Sam on the phone and said yes to him. Mac was standing in front of Maggie and asks her out on a date. Maggie wasn't even listening to Mac, and when she says yes to Sam, Mac thinks that she agreed to his proposal. As all three meet up at the restaurant a pickpocket takes Mac's and Sam's wallets. After the meal, the competition to impress Maggie heightens. At first, both Mac and Sam fight over who pays the bill, but then they realize that their wallets are stolen and thus try to pass the bill to the other. As Maggie goes to the restroom, the guys make a run out of the restaurant, leaving Maggie to pay the bill. Mamu Singh (Asrani) is Mac's maternal uncle who is not happy that Mac and Anjali cannot get along together. Mac promises to spend more time with Anjali and even the entire day with her on her Birthday. Mamu promises to send the couple back to India after their wedding. Sam visits a famous photographer, praising him and asking for a few outstanding shots to enter in an international photography competition on behalf of his company. These stolen shots help Sam to win the world photography competition. He gets promoted, is given ten percent of the prize money of Rs 1 Crore and has his pay doubled (with a paid vacation to USA for a month), whilst Mac receives a demotion to assistant. Sam flies off to the USA to enjoy his holiday (which was given to him by his company), leaving Mac fuming in Mauritius. The chief editor Nageshwar Kapoor (Manoj Joshi) persuades Mac to show up Sam by getting three women to be his fiance, getting a very expensive flat and driving very expensive, imported cars. Following his promise, Mac gets a high-quality flat and gets access to three beautiful air hostesses. His driver, Babban (Rajpal Yadav), is his key to the high life. Not only does Babban gets Mac access to the flat, but he also delivers very high-end cars to impress his fiance. He drives Mac's cars and does all his services for a small amount of liquor every day. The flat belongs to a rich man who had bought it for his daughter. Since the daughter is in the US, the flat remains empty. Mac approaches the landlord Daksh Padgaonkar (Prithvi Zutshi) and gets hired as the caretaker of the apartment. Lastly, Babban gets Mac a housekeeper, Mambo (Paresh Rawal), who has an attitude problem and doesn't care what goes on in the flat so long as his demands are met. Mambo wants all appliances to be arranged for his kitchen work. He wont cook food if there is a cricket match on, he will do his own grocery shopping and he demands that he will not be asked to explain daily expenses in the house. Mac has affairs with each of the three women-Deepti (Daisy Bopanna), Puja (Nargis Bagheri) and Sweety (Neetu Chandra)-and creates chaos as he has to keep track of their individual schedules and make sure that he does not double book. Before the next girl arrives, Mambo has to do all the work to clear the flat of all evidence of the previous girl. Each of the girls have a tussle with Mambo for not listening to them, not following orders and not behaving like a servant. Mac has to delicately balance keeping Mambo happy as well as taking side of his girlfriend. Anjali approaches Nageshwar and bribes him to find Mac's location. Mac convinces Anjali that he is staying at the apartment of his friend since his company him out of the apartment allocated to him. Sam returns from America, only to find his friend turned rival, playing around with three women at once. He tries to upstage his friend and tries out his own luck with the girls. Sam convinces Babban to take him to Mac's apartment and decides to live with him. The arrangement turns into mayhem when it's hard for the two boys to maintain the three girls simultaneously. Sam tries to take over Mac's life by trying to bribe Mambo, Babban & even the chief editor (by trying to get Mac transferred). Sam also finds out from Babban about the owner of flat that Mac is living in and how he got it. However, Mac finds out that San is trying to take over his life. Mac kicks Sam out but reconciles when Sam threatens to go to the real owner of the apartment where Mac is squatting. The next few days are a series of farce when the 3 girls keep coming & going in the apartment & are in the apartment at the same time as well (due to a change in the airline's operating schedules). To top it off Anjali and Mamu come over to the apartment to get Mac's commitment for his wedding to Anjali. It is up to Mac, Sam, Mambo and Babban to somehow keep them apart from running into each other. Mac's original fiance Anjali Bhatnagar learns about Mac's deeds, and it creates a bigger mess. When their cook Mambo leaves, Sam & Mac are caught when Pooja and Deepti come face to face inside the apartment. Their whole game unravels & they begin to realize their mistakes. Mac tries to get back together with Anjali. Sam apologizes on Mac's behalf to Anjali & tells her the whole truth. Anjali was about to board her flight back to India, but sensing sincerity, she decides to stay back & take back Mac when he promises to give up his wayward ways with women.

A singer, a young woman and a bank employee lie to get ahead in life, leading to cases of mistaken identities.

The story centers on the legacy of a dead Indian underworld don Baba Baldev Prasad (Om Puri), who dies of a heart attack. He has left diamonds worth Rs 1000 Crores at the New York Bank. Baldev's next generation includes his son Vikrant (Rahul Dev), his daughter Preeti (Preeti Jhangiani), and Preeti's husband Guru Gulab Khatri (Akshay Kumar). Vikrant and Preeti are step siblings, as Baldev's children from different mothers. Champaklal (Asrani) is Baldev's lawyer. Baldev himself did not trust Vikrant, but had full faith in Guru. Baldev had left a will in which all his estate was split equally between Vikrant, Preeti, and Guru, which included the diamonds as well. To claim the diamonds, all three benefactors must be present at the bank or, if dead, their death certificates must be presented. If all 3 die, the diamonds will go to Champaklal. And if Champaklal dies, the diamonds will go to an animal welfare trust. Preeti and Guru are married only in name as Baldev got them married. But they do not stay together. Preeti wants to divorce Guru, but he refuses. Shortly after Baldev's death, Vikrant attempts to eliminate Guru by assassinating the Indian home minister in full view of television cameras while disguised as him. Guru flees to the US disguised as someone else to escape prosecution in India. Guru moves to the street where Anmol (Aftab Shivdasani) and his family live. Anmol is married to Mona (Amrita Arora). Anmol is a dentist and his secretary is Tina (Aarti Chabria). Tina is a big fan of mafia dons. Mona is a dominant wife and demands that Anmol does all the housework and also hand over all of his earnings to her. Anmol recognizes Guru from the news as a wanted criminal from India. Guru warns Anmol not to reveal his identity to anyone, especially the police. But Guru likes Anmol and his father-in-law Manilal, and their innocence. Manilal forgets the names of the people around him and also forgets his name too. Manilal cares for Anmol and does not approve of how Mona treats him. Anmol's mother-in-law Paramjeet (Supriya Pilgaonkar) forces him to go to India, along with his father-in-law, Manilal (Paresh Rawal) to tell Vikrant about Guru and get the reward of Rs 2 Crores. Vikrant's goons, Yeda Anna and Chota Chathri, pick up Anmol and Manilal from their India hotel and take them to Vikrant. Anmol sees Preeti and falls in love with her. He is heartbroken to find that Preeti is married to Guru. Everything turns wrong when Vikrant doesn't give the reward and instead sends Anmol and Manilal back to the USA with his hired men, Yeda Anna (Sunil Shetty) and Chota Chathri (Johnny Lever) to kill Guru. Anmol figures out Vikrant's plan and calls Guru from India to warn him. Preeti reaches out to Anmol and says that she wants to divorce Guru in exchange for her share of the diamonds. Anmol admits his feelings to Preeti. Anmol, Manilal, Yeda and Chota return to the US. Later, they find out that Yeda Anna was a double agent: He was working for Guru the whole time because he offered more money. Yeda calls Vikrant, that Anmol's information is correct and asks Vikrant to come to the US. Yeda and Chota are asked to stay with Manilal and Anmol, and they both terrorize their wives who now start respecting their husbands. Yeda and Chota learn that the whole tussle is for diamonds worth Rs 1000 Crores. Yeda is not happy at receiving only Rs 5 Crores from Guru and wants the whole thing. Tina is smitten with Guru and asks Anmol to introduce her to Guru. Tina knows Guru's whole history and Guru is impressed with her. Meanwhile, realizing the Yeda will get the money from Guru, Mona tries to seduce him. The group receive Vikrant and Preeti at the airport and drive to the hotel. At the hotel, Vikrant is kidnapped by a mysterious group of Chinese goons. Yeda Anna receives a phone call and finds out that the kidnapped Vikrant was a duplicate of the real one and the real one was going to come later by a private plane. They kill the second Vikrant (who arrived later by plane) and put his body in a car and leave it by the Brooklyn Bridge. With Vikrant's death, Preeti and Guru each get half of the diamonds. When they are outside the bank, a group of policemen arrest them and take them to an unknown desert area. It is revealed that Vikrant is still alive, as the original Vikrant got himself kidnapped by Chinese goons. Vikrant gets the diamonds and tries to kill Guru. A fight occurs. At the end of the fight, Guru kills Vikrant. When it's all over, the group ask each other to find out who has the diamonds. Anmol has them and says he will give them to Guru if he gives Preeti a divorce. Tina convinces Guru to give the divorce to Preeti. Guru arrives at the location selected by Anmol and gets the diamonds, while giving Anmol the divorce papers. Yeda Anna betrays Guru and tries to steal the diamonds. Guru wins in a fight and gives diamonds worth Rs 5 Crores to Yeda Anna while hanging him to a forklift and having him stand on Chota Chathri's shoulders. In the end, Anmol and his love, Preet, are seen going to India. Anmol's ex-father-in-law gives him some diamonds that he received from Guru as Preeti's share. Preeti comments that she didn't know that Guru was so nice.

Hero (Salman Khan) works for a courier company owned by Khanna (Shakti Kapoor). He is spirited and humorous and is in love with Rani (Rani Mukerji), but she simply thinks of Hero as a good friend. Rani lives with her mother (Sulabha Arya). Hero specializes in giving Purple Nurples, while Rani is looking for a guy who is a Prince, tall, with a wide chest, and with a grand car. Hero has none of those things and drives a moped. Rani gets a job as a teacher in a school. Enter Inspector Vishal (Arbaaz Khan), who works in the narcotics department and has the reputation of being unrelenting towards drug smugglers and peddlers. Since Vishal has eradicated the drug business in Goa, he is transferred to Mumbai. His new commanding officer is Senior Inspector AK Khan (Neeraj Vora). Vishal is given Constable Hatella (Johny Lever) to support him. Khan assigns a case to Vishal where a man was caught supplying drugs under the guise of being a courier person. Vishal suspects Khanna to be involved in a drug ring and confronts him at a golf course. Khanna denies all knowledge of the case and says that his courier person was using Khanna's company to run a side business in drugs. Hero stands up to Vishal and defends his boss. Hero is a fun-loving person and teases Vishal with his antics and gags. Hero knows that Vishal is following him and keeping an eye to see if Hero is also into supplying drugs on behalf of Khanna. Hero knows Vishal is looking for evidence against Khanna and is convinced that there is no evidence to be found. Hero tells Vishal that he will never do a task which gets him to lose his self-respect in his own eyes or in the eyes of his Chawl where he lives. But soon Hero learns the truth behind Khanna. Khanna assigns extra deliveries to Hero to help him achieve his dream of impressing Rani. Khanna had asked Hero to deliver a parcel, which gets damaged during an accident on the road. Hero finds that the parcel contained drugs. Hero still believes that someone else is using Khanna and goes to his warehouse to warn him. Meanwhile, Vishal was following Hero and also enters the warehouse. Khanna realizes that Hero had found out everything about his drugs business and believes that Hero can go to the police. In a confrontation at the city docks, Khanna kills Hero (Hero had come to warn Khanna, but when Khanna heard the police sirens, he suspected that Hero had told the police everything) and shoots Vishal in the heart. The police department decides to transplant Hero's heart into Vishal's body. Hero now appears as a ghost and can only be seen by Vishal, since his heart is in Vishal's body. Vishal realizes that Hero is telling the truth, when he is shown Hero's dead body by Hatella and Khan. Hero says that he will only rest in peace after Khanna is killed, thus avenging him. Rani was out of town for a few days. When she returns, her mother informs her of Hero's death and the fact that he was involved in drugs trafficking. Rani refuses to believe that Hero was involved in any illegal activities. Rani realizes that Hero's body is still lying unclaimed in the morgue. Rani goes to the morgue to claim Hero's body and to perform his last rites. Vishal sees Rani for the first time at Hero's cremation. Vishal has a tickling sensation in his heart when he sees Rani, presumably because it is Hero's heart, who used to love Rani. Vishal takes control of a hostage situation at the school where Rani is a teacher. Vishal successfully enters the school, kills the terrorists and rescues all the kids as well as Rani. Rani starts to see Vishal in a positive light. They begin to date. Vishal and Rani begin to fall in love with each other. Hero dislikes this and tries to foil Vishal's plans of getting close to Rani. Hero gets Vishal to dress funny and to perform silly antics which make Rani question whether Vishal is mature enough to be her partner. Rani is livid with Vishal and Vishal tries to explain that someone else has made his life hell but is not able to. But Hero and Vishal start getting closer and work together, becoming good friends after Vishal confronts Khanna's drug company. Hero tells Vishal that Khanna is trying to liquidate his drugs stock and exit the country in haste. Vishal raids Khanna's warehouse and captures a shipment of drugs. Khanna arranges to leave the country, but kidnaps Rani. Vishal and Hero go to save Rani and fight off Khanna's henchmen, but Vishal gets injured. Hero then enters Vishal's body and controls his fighting moves, helping him to beat the thugs. Rani witnesses this and realizes that only Hero would do those kinds of moves. She calls out Hero's name, though Vishal does not know that Hero is inside him. Rani then calls out to warn Vishal that a plane is moving towards him. Vishal and Hero stop the plane, which Khanna is in, and then confront him. As they are talking, Vishal becomes distracted, speaking to Hero, and Khanna takes the opportunity to shoot Vishal. Hero takes Vishal's hand and shoots Khanna with the gun. Khanna finally dies, and as Rani is comforting Vishal, he tells her that Hero is with them, and he loves Rani. Rani then tells Vishal to tell Hero that she loves Vishal. Khanna's ghost rises from his dead body and Hero hits him. Khanna is taken to Hell and Hero is taken to Heaven. Afterwards, Rani and Vishal have gotten married and are spending their wedding night and honeymoon in a house on the water. It is shown that Hero, now an angel, is happily watching over them from Heaven.
