Four friends wishing to make a quick buck, decide to marry a rich girl. Their plan backfires after they meet Ritu.

Laxmikant Kabadiya aka LK, is one of India`s richest industrialists, a self made man who`s risen from selling scrap to become a construction magnate. His conglomerate is on the verge of a 5000 crore IPO that should make them one of the largest companies in the country. LK`s family - comprising of his spinster twin sister Prerna, his two sons Ranjeet and Sameer, their wives Shruti and Anju respectively and Ranjeet`s daughters Sanjana and Namrata, and Sameer`s son, Pawan, can`t stop salivating at the thought of all that money. Unfortunately for all of them fate displays a wicked sense of humour. On the night before the IPO opens, LK dies while copulating with a starlet who`s aspiring to become the heroine of a film that LK plans to produce. The family is distraught and horrified. Not because a loved one has died but because now no one will buy their shares. So, on the advice of their family guru - Vidyut Baba, the family decides to hide the death of LK for a period of two days till the shares are all sold out. Little do they realize the crazy series of events that will follow on account of this duplicity.

A bunch of misfits and gangsters embarks on a journey to find a lost and stolen diamond. Raja lives in Dubai, U.A.E. and is a career-criminal, partnered by his girlfriend, Tina, and her maternal uncle, Chobey. Raja also makes additional money by masquerading as Rahul, the son of Lajwanti, who was killed in an accident. Since Chobey owes money to a gangster named Moscow Chikna, Raja decides to help him out by arranging the abduction of Rocky, a jewel thief, who has a priceless diamond in his possession. If Raja and his gang do not bring this diamond to Moscow Chikna, he has sworn to cut off their arms. When another gangster, JD, finds out about the diamond, he asks them to bring the diamond to him or else he will cut off their legs. The trio abduct Rocky - only to be threatened by a London-based gangster, Chokshi, who has recruited Gunmaster G9, who has threatened to cut off their respective necks if the diamond is not surrendered to Chokshi. Chaos prevails as the hapless trio, their lives complicated by the bumbling Kuttu Pilot, hustle to save their lives - in vain attempts to try and pacify the three gangsters.

Balraj Kapoor (Amitabh Bachchan) is a rich businessman, happy and content with his world. He and his wife Shobhna (Hema Malini) live happily together, and they wait for their only son Avinash 'Avi' (Salman Khan) to return from his studies abroad. After an absence of 7 years, Avinash comes back to India. He reunites with his parents at the airport and races home. Back home, Avi joins his father's business. Balraj is very competitive and even engages Avi is a car race from time to time. Balwant is Balraj's elder brother. Pushpa Kapoor (Sarika) is Balraj and Balwant's widowed younger sister-in-law who has always been looked down upon by Balwant for being a widow. Panchi (Rajpal Yadav) is the household servant and chauffeur. Balwant has a son Khushi (Parmeet Sethi). Balwant insists that Indian traditions are followed in the house with full respect to the culture and religious practices. One day they decide to go golfing. Avi and Balraj engage in a friendly banter. Avi accuses Balraj of cheating at sports. Avi picks the ball and accidentally throws it in the wrong direction which ruins a painting. The young woman painting the picture, Malvika 'Millie' (Rani Mukherjee) gets furious with Balraj and leaves. Balraj admonishes Millie for trying to paint on a golf course. Balraj says that he had paid for a round of golf and that it is not a park where Millie can spread her equipment. Balraj insults Millie by saying that her painting was not very good in the first place. Millie is distraught as she had invested 3 days in the painting, and her father had taken special permission for her to paint on the golf course. Later on, Avi runs into Millie on the golf course, and they start to talk. Millie tells him that a stupid old man ruined her painting and points out that it was Balraj; but she doesn't know that the 'old man' is Avi's father, and he doesn't tell her. Avi says that Balraj is his boss, and he works for him for a pittance. They start to hang out together while slowly falling in love with each other. Avi tells Millie that he was fired from his job for speaking up his mind and standing up for the truth. Avi pursues Millie, but makes it sound like they are meeting by chance and that destiny is bringing them together. Later, Avi tells Millie that Balraj apologized for his actions and begged him to come back to work. Millie stays with her parents Jeet (Sharat Saxena) and Suman (Smita Jaykar). When Millie comes home, she is visited by her childhood friend Rajat (John Abraham). She tells him that she loves someone, which devastates him because he is also in love with her. One day, Millie goes to Avi's office to drop off a painting (Avi's interior designer had purchased 3 of Millie's paintings and she was delivering them) and finds out that Balraj is Avi's father. When Avi shows up, she leaves the office crying. He chases after her and says that the only reason he lied to her was because he loves her. She doesn't accept his apology right then, but when Balraj apologies to her for ruining her painting, she forgives them both. Avi asks Millie to get dressed up for a party at his house. When she arrives, there is no one except Avi. He proposes to her, and she accepts. The next day, Avi's whole family visits Millie's house to discuss marriage and everyone agrees, except Rajat. Rajat tells Avi that he'll let him marry her if only he promises to always keep her happy and never let her get sad. Balwant brings his entire family to the wedding, except Pushpa, whom he considers a bad omen and not fit for public functions. Balraj respects his wife's wishes and invites Pushpa for the Phere ceremony, overruling Balwant. Avi and Millie get married and soon they're expecting a child. Time goes on, Millie's water breaks while in yoga class and Avi and she flee to the hospital where they are blessed with a healthy baby boy. Their child Ansh grows up to be a sweet and intelligent boy. The family throws a birthday bash for Ansh and wait for Avi who is in a meeting. But Avi never arrives home. He is involved in an accident and dies. Millie is devastated. Balraj seeks to bring happiness back into Millie's life and gets into contact with Rajat. He learns that Rajat still loves Millie. Balraj asks Rajat to marry Millie. Rajat meets Ansh and bonds well with him. However, there is stiff opposition from Shobhna and Balraj's conservative older brother Balwant (Om Puri). Shobhna fears losing her grandson Ansh, while Balwant thinks a widow's remarriage is a sin. However, Balraj stands firm and convinces everyone. In the end, Rajat and Millie get married, and everything is well. Avinash comes in as a ghost and blesses his dad with happiness.

Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) is a down-on-his-luck boy who loses money in whatever business he invests in. His debt keeps increasing. The biggest creditor to Jeetu is Sharmaji (Asrani). In total, Jeetu owes Rs 13 Lakhs 90 thousand to his creditors. He had borrowed money, to buy land and to plant mango saplings, but the land was acquired by the government to lay down a railway track. Due to his huge debts, his father Jai Dev (Anupam Kher), mother (Amita Nangia) and everyone else are worried about him. Jai Dev had already mortgaged his house to pay for Jeetu's failed business ventures. Frustrated, Jeetu breaks off his engagement to Pooja (Sushma Reddy). Pooja's father is Mohan Prakash (Manoj Joshi). Mohan hates Jeetu as he is good for nothing, but knows that Pooja is madly in love with Jeetu, and wont consider marrying anyone else till Jeetu is around. Jeetu decides to commit suicide so that his father can pay off all the debt with the insurance money after her death. Jeetu calls all the people from whom he has taken loan to the riverbank and after telling this, he jumps into the water. Even after people search extensively, his body is not found. Swimmers say that due to high water flow the body might have gone far away. Fishermen Gundiya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav) find a man (who is actually Jeetu) in the net. They take him to the hospital and there they start thinking of Jeetu as dumb and deaf. Jeetu also starts doing similar drama. Jeetu had the list of creditors in his pocket, and the money he owed them, but Gundiya misunderstands that believes that Jeetu is a creditor and has to receive that amount of money from his debtors. Gundiya and Bandya hope to get Rs 5 Lakhs as reward for returning Jeetu to his family. Due to Jeetu's drama, Gundiya has no clue of his name or identity and hence cannot claim his reward. Meanwhile the police force Gundiya to take care of Jeetu till his identity is ascertained. Gundiya is worried about all the expenses he is incurring on Jeetu. Gundiya owes money to rich boat owner Prabhat. Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri) takes Gundiya's boat due to not getting his money. When Gundiya comes to him asking for the boat back, Prabhat Singh Chauhan asks him to give him something to keep as a guarantee. He gives Jeetu and Bandya as guarantee and goes away with the boat. Gundiya tells Prabhat that Jeetu is his nephew Kanhaiya. Natwar Jhunjhunwala (Shakti Kapoor) is Prabhat's manager. Both of them are made to work there as servants at Prabhat's house. Mangal (Suniel Shetty) is the head of the family, even though he is the son of Prabhat's elder brother. Shruti is Mangal's sister. Shruti is dumb and is hence sympathetic towards Jeetu. Meenakshi is Prabhat's daughter and they all live in the same house as a joint family. One day Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia) and Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) discover that Jeetu is not dumb and deaf. Instead of keeping his secret a secret, they want to do something else. Shruti's marriage is arranged in a house which is only greedy for money. The boy's family has for 2 companies and a lot of land as dowry in exchange for marriage with Shruti. To break this marriage, Meenakshi asks Jeetu to pretend to be Shruti's lover and call her fiance, due to which the wedding proposal breaks. Mangal suspects Jeetu of sabotaging the proposal and beats him senseless. But Prabhat intervenes and tells Mangal that even Jeetu is deaf and dumb and hence could not have called the boy's family. Mangal gives Jeetu a job for Rs 20,000 per month. Meenakshi wants Jeetu to leave the house, but Jeetu also refuses and says that he will reveal that Meenakshi was behind the plot to break Shruti's wedding. One day, Sharma comes to meet Prabhat and Meenakshi sees Jeetu hiding from him. Meenakshi learns that Jeetu has a lot of debt and can do anything for money. Meenakshi gets Jeetu's photo from Sharma and realizes that this is the same Kanhaiya who has been living in their house. Before Meenakshi can say anything to Prabhat, Jeetu and Prabhat go by car with a lot of money and meet with a road accident. Due to both of them not returning, they feel as if Jeetu has done something. On Meenakshi's request, the police catch Jeetu and beat him thoroughly. Prabhat returns home and tells that his car met with an accident, after which Jeetu took him to the hospital and after giving the money to the person to whom he was supposed to pay, he went to get the medicine, but did not return. Knowing this they all feel regretful. Meenakshi and Shruti know that Prabhat has been stealing money from Mangal to run his own businesses which are all making losses. In fact, the money that Sharma loaned Jeetu, belonged to Prabhat. They threaten to reveal the truth to Mangal and Prabhat is very afraid of Mangal. Meenakshi and Shruti force Prabhat to give them Rs 13.9 Lakhs and send the money to Jeetu's village through the hands of Bandya. When Bandya meets Mohan, he realizes that Kanhaiya is really Jeetu and is neither deaf nor dumb. Bandya comes and tells that Pooja has got married, hearing which Jeetu becomes happy. Jeetu still won't go back to the village as he knows that Pooja only married someone else believing the Jeetu is dead. Seeing him alive would make Pooja feel very guilty. But in reality, Pooja was living with Jai Dev as Jeetu's widow. Meanwhile, Shruti expresses her love to Jeetu. Mangal learns that Shruti is in love with Jeetu and decides to get them married. Jeetu, now free from debt and in love with Shruti, agrees to the marriage. Jeetu reveals to Mangal that he is not deaf or dumb and assures him that Shruti knew of his reality, and he never betrayed her trust. Meanwhile, Jeetu's family members come to know that Jeetu is alive, when Mangal sends them money via Bandya and Gundiya. Jai Dev goes to meet Jeetu on the day of the wedding, and Jeetu is shocked to learn that Pooja never married anyone else and is living as his widow. He cannot explain anything to Jai Dev as Prabhat pulls him inside the house. Later, Jeetu explains everything to Shruti and goes home to get Pooja's permission to marry Shruti. The family wants Jeetu to accept Pooja, but he is helpless. Jai Dev and Mohan come to the wedding ceremony, and everyone starts arguing. When Pooja learns that Shruti cannot speak, she changes her mind and asks Jeetu to marry Shruti. After this, Jeetu and Shruti get married, and they live happily ever after.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising is a biographical drama based on the life of Mangal Pandey, an Indian sepoy in the British Army of the East India Company who sparked India's first war of Independence in 1857.

It is the year 1857, a large part of the Indian subcontinent is under the control of the British East India Company. The private company has its own administration, laws and its own army, which controls the fate of 20% of world's humanity. On 7 April, in Barrackpore in West Bengal, Mangal Pandey (Aamir Khan), a Sepoy (soldier of Indian origin) in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry of the company's army, is being led to his execution by hanging for fomenting mutiny against company rule. Witnessing the execution is Pandey's friend, Captain William Gordon (Toby Stephens), who is relieved when the execution is delayed due to the hangman's refusal to hang Pandey. Gordon knows that he is responsible for the upcoming wars between India and the British Empire. The film then flashes back to four years earlier. While fighting in Afghanistan, Pandey saves Gordon's life by dragging him to safety when the two were targeted by Afghan snipers. Afterwards, Gordon seeks out Pandey at a camp and offers him his pistol as a token of gratitude. 4 years later (31 December 1856), during the New Year Eve's ball at the Governor General's palace in Calcutta, Pandey angers Captain Hewson (Ben Nealon) when he attempts to stop him from severely beating an Indian servant for inadvertently touching Emily Kent (Coral Beed), the daughter of Mr. Graham Kent (Kenneth Cranham), an influential British businessman. Gordon witnesses the assault but does not stop it leading to tension with Pandey. However, he apologizes to Pandey during a wrestling match and a friendship is formed between them transcending rank, color and race. Gordon even participates with Pandey to sabotage Hewson's horse-riding gear, which leads to Hewson falling on his back in a comic fashion. Officer Lockwood (Simon Chandler) is the company auditor who has been sent from England specifically to look into the company's affairs in India, and investigate the charges of corruption and wrong doing. Company's biggest business in India is opium. Company forces Indian farmers to grow Opium and pay them a pittance for it. They would sell this Opium in China at inflated prices and buy spices and silks from them. When the Emperor of China resisted, the company attacked China and wrested Hing Kong from them, using Indian soldiers for the battle. Lockwood raids the warehouse of a Parsi trader Sohrabjee (Sohrab Ardeshir) and finds stacks of privately purchased Opium ready to be shipped to China. Sohrabjee tries to Lockwood out with a bribe of 3000 pounds. But Lockwood burns the entire stock of Opium since the Company has a monopoly on the opium trade in India. The farmers who sold the Opium to Sohrabjee (under orders from Company officers), their lands are confiscated, and when they protest, the army fires on them and sets their village on fire. Meanwhile, the installation of communication wires all over the country have enabled telegraph services, which allows the East India Company to move troops to the troubled regions quickly, and before the situation gets out of hand. The company then introduces a new weapon in January 1857 for its troops: the Enfield rifled musket. Rumors spread among the Sepoy that the paper cartridges holding the powder and ball for the rifle are greased with either pig fat or beef tallow; the process of loading the rifle requires the soldier to bite down on the cartridge, and the soldiers believe that this would cause them to consume pork or beef - acts abhorrent to Muslim and Hindu soldiers, respectively, for religious reasons. A low-caste laborer named Nainsukh (Atul Kumar) teases Pandey, a Brahmin, that he has lost his caste by using such a gun, but Pandey dismisses Nainsukh's taunts. The Sepoy, led by Pandey, express their concerns to General Hearsey (Jeremy Clyde), but he reassures them that no such cartridge exists. The Sepoy remain concerned when they are asked to test-fire the new rifle at musketry drill, but Gordon, after talking to Hearsey, reiterates that no such cartridge exists and asks a Sepoy to test-fire the rifle. Pandey volunteers, and his fellow Sepoy chastise him afterward. However, demonstrating his trust in Gordon, he states his belief that the rumors are untrue. Meanwhile, Gordon stops a Sati ceremony from occurring and rescues a widow, Jwala (Ameesha Patel). Jwala says that she was forcefully married to a 60-year-old man, who had grown children. The Sarpanch demands that Gordon return Jwala, but he refuses. Gordon arranges for her to be treated, and the two gradually become closer, eventually having an affair. Pandey sides with Gordon on the matter, earning the ire of his community. Pandey further earns Captain Hewson's ire by stopping him from trying to sexually assault a prostitute named Heera (Rani Mukerji), who was sold to a brothel run by Lol Bibi (Kirron Kher) exclusively for British soldiers. While slavery was banned in Britain, the company allowed it in India, as it was a means of entertainment for the white soldiers and this way the army remained free of any serious diseases. Pandey suffers a serious beating from Hewson and three other officers the next day, but Gordon intervenes and saves Pandey. Pandey meets Heera at the brothel afterwards, and they begin to fall in love with each other. Sometime later, Nainsukh takes Pandey and some other Sepoy to see the factory, owned by Mr. Kent, where the cartridge grease is made; indeed, the grease turns out to be pig fat and beef tallow. Pandey, believing Gordon lied to him, returns Gordon's pistol, and ends their friendship. Hearing of the 34th Regiment's refusal to use the rifles, the 19th Regiment at Berhampore also refuses to use them in a parade at the ground on 12 February 1857, and mutiny brews among the Sepoy. Gordon unsuccessfully attempts to dissuade Pandey and the mutineers from rebelling and is likewise unsuccessful at convincing Major General George Anson (Christopher Adamson), the Commander-in-Chief, India, to abandon using the cartridges. The mutineers, meanwhile, meet with Tatya Tope (Deepraj Rana) and his messenger Azimullah (Shahbaz Khan) and they all agree to unite under the leadership of the elderly Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar (Habib Tanvir) and rise in rebellion. Anson decides to send the Queen's Regiment from Rangoon to intercept and subdue the rebels; it is scheduled to arrive in Berhampore on 1 April. Heera informs Pandey of this plan, having spent the previous night with Hewson. The rebels revise their timetable to march on 30 March, but the wife of one of the rebels, angry at her husband after an argument in which he tells her of the impending revolt, informs her British employer woman of the plans. As the employer woman is having an affair with Hewson at the time, he overhears the conversation and later tortures the rebel into revealing the date of the march. On 29 March, the mutineers are informed of the Rangoon Regiment's arrival. Pandey attempts to rally them into fending off the attack, and when the officers, including Gordon, inquire as to what they are doing, the rebels turn on them. With the regiment's arrival, the mutineers want to throw down their weapons; Pandey, however, fires at the opposing forces, killing two and injuring four. Later on, he was court-martialed, and Gordon testified on his behalf, passionately defending his actions and warning of bloody rebellion if he is hanged. Despite Gordon's warning, the court-martial imposes a death sentence on Pandey. The night before Pandey's execution, Heera visits him in his jail cell and has him place Sindoor on her forehead, marking their marriage. The next day (on 8 April), in front of Gordon, the British officers, his fellow Sepoy, and the townspeople, Pandey is hanged. Inspired by his execution, the spectators break out in revolt. The film ends with drawings of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and footage of the later Indian independence movement.

Lady Catherine Williams (nee Beckett) (Polly Adams), a wealthy British woman, arrives in India to donate Rs 3500 Crores to charity as part of India's Republic Day Celebrations. Catherine is a state guest but ignores all requests for a media interview. She has also ignored all requests from various states to visit them and see their tourist attractions. The media portrays this as snobbish behavior from the British, so much so that the Ministry requests Catherine to visit a few places before she leaves India. Catherine wants to see the real India, and she requests a visit to Devprayag, where India's 2 rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet to form the Ganges River. At Devprayag, Lady Catherine remembers her childhood and narrates her story to a small crowd, which includes journalists Jimmy (Ronit Roy) and Rita (Ashwini Kalsekar). Shocking them, she reveals that she can speak Hindi very well. Catherine (Antonia Bernath) was born in India in 1930, to British citizens living in the country. She had a privileged and peaceful upbringing. In 1935, a young Catherine befriends Kisna (Vivek Oberoi), a local village boy, and the two share a joyous friendship. Upon learning of this, Catherine's father Peter forcefully sends her back to England. Shanta (Zarina Wahab) is Kisna's mother and Shankar (Yashpal Sharma) is his elder brother. Bhairo Singh (Amrish Puri) is a revolutionary and Kisna's maternal uncle. Sriram (Shivaji Satam) is the manager of stables and Kisna's father. Bhairo says that Peter Beckett, the British officer of the province, has stopped water supply to the farmers and diverted it to Prince Raghuraj (Rajat Kapoor). In 1947, during the Independence Struggle, Catherine comes back to India on holidays and again meets Kisna. Kisna has now developed into a poet and a singer. Kisna is now engaged to be married to Lakshmi (Isha Sharvani). Meanwhile, Prince Raghuraj has the hots for Catherine, even though she considers him as her uncle. The childhood friendship between Kisna and Catherine is rekindled and over time the feelings slowly develop into love. Their relationship is tested by the fact that they seemingly belong to the opposite sides of India's struggle for freedom. Anti-British sentiment is rife in the province, as people are dying after drinking polluted water as a result of Raghuraj's activities. Shankar has joined Bhairo Singh as a revolutionary. There is growing resentment against colonialism after British Government declares that all officers have to return to England by 14th Aug 1947 in preparation for Indian Independence. Catherine finds herself being targeted by an enraged mob of Indian nationalists including Bhairo and Shankar, who set her home on fire. She is protected by Kisna, who hides her in the family stables. Shanta finds Catherine and orders Kisna to protect her at all costs. Kisna is torn between his friendship and love for Catherine, and his duty to his country and the hatred of the British Raj. Kisna takes it upon himself to escort Catherine to the British High Commission, where safe passage back to England can be arranged for her. Kisna faces backlash from his family and community, who were part of the mob. Shankar vows that out of Kisna and him, only one will survive. Lakshmi is heartbroken that Kisna ran away with Catherine. Kisna and Catherine seek refuge with Kisna's friend Nandu (Vivek Mushran), in Rishikesh, on their way to Delhi. Kisna and Catherine pretend to be married in front of Nandu's family and stay with them. With the family, Catherine learns about Indian culture and traditions. The trip reaffirms their love for each other. At Rishikesh railway station, Raghuraj finds Catherine and lures her with her mother. He takes her away when Kisna was buying tickets at the counter. Catherine says that Kisna saved her life, but her mother Jennifer only trusts Raghuraj. Meanwhile, Lakshmi also goes to search for Kisna. Kisna is determined to save Catherine as he knows that she is not safe with Raghuraj. Kisna finds Raghuraj at a local guesthouse. Jennifer by now has found that Raghuraj wants to marry Catherine and is disgusted by him. Kisna blinds Raghuraj temporarily which allows Jennifer and Catherine to escape into a nearby commercial vehicle. Juman Masum Kishti (Om Puri) is the driver, who helps them get away along with Kisna. Juman is a servant of Naima Begum (Sushmita Sen). Naima agrees to protect her guests for the night, with the promise of delivering the trio to Delhi the following morning. On their way, the horse cart is attacked by Shankar and his forces. Juman saves Jennifer, while Kisna saves Catherine and hides with her in the jungles. They take shelter in ruins and spend the night. The next morning, Lakshmi catches up to them and confronts them in the ruins. Kisna says that he and Catherine are friends and that is it only his duty to deliver her safely to Delhi. Lakshmi is livid, but Kisna refuses to abandon Catherine. This is when Bhairo and Shankar's forces surround Kisna and Catherine. Kisna kills Bhairo when he attempts to kill Catherine. Kisna defeats Shankar in a sword-fight but spares him. Kisna says that saving Catherine is his duty. He realizes that he truly loves Catherine. Kisna kills an assassin sent by Raghuraj and uses his jeep to travel to Delhi. Kisna reaches Ghaziabad with Catherine, but the city is locked down by curfew. A police inspector recognizes Raghuraj's jeep and guides Raghuraj when he arrives in the city looking for Catherine. The police arrest Catherine as she and Kisna navigate the riots in the city, and she is produced in front of Raghuraj. Raghuraj tries to sexually assault Catherine, but Kisna finds her and engages Raghuraj in battle. Kisna burns Raghuraj alive. Shankar arrives and kills Raghuraj, just as he is about to shoot Kisna in the back. Kisna is ultimately forced to choose between his feelings for Catherine and his duty to his country. Kisna is offered to leave India with Catherine. Kisna chooses the latter and the pair bid an emotional farewell to each other. In the present, it is revealed that Kisna married Lakshmi, and fulfilled his duties to his wife and country, but always loved Catherine till his death. His last wish was for his ashes to be spread at Devprayag, the place where first love blossomed between him and Catherine. Catherine's last wish is also for her ashes to be spread at Devprayag, so that, even though they both married different people, she and Kisna can be together forever.

A man embarks on journey to find his love in Dubai, only to learn she has different suitors and admirers. This is the story of Karan and Tanya. Karan is in love with Tanya but is too shy to tell her. One day Tanya witnesses the murder of a scientist by his evil twin brother, the underworld don Mehboob, and needs to flee the country. When Karan's friend coaxes him to track Tanya after she migrates to Dubai, he enlists the aid of a deceptive investigator, Rocky to track her down. Rocky ends up falling in love with her at first sight and tries to stop Karan from wooing her. Meanwhile, Tanya's physically disabled friend, Sanju also has a soft spot for her and tries thwarting Rocky's attempts at getting close to Tanya. Joint Commissioner of Police Dev Pratap Singh (Amitabh Bachchan), a duty-bound, self-righteous officer (He has just killed a minority community student leader as he was conducting unlawful activities on campus), and Special Commissioner Tejinder Khosla (Om Puri), the balancing force between the political interests of Chief Minister Bhandarker (Amrish Puri) and Dev's commitment to the law, are lifelong friends, each with his own ideals. Tej believes in using excessive force for control, while Dev believes in upholding the rule of law. Tej reminds Dev that his own 8 yrs old son Armaan was killed by the bullet of a Muslim terrorist.. Dr. Bharati Singh (Rati Agnihotri) is Dev's wife. Farhaan (Fardeen Khan), a law graduate, was brought up with ideals of non-violence and patriotism. On a train bound for Bombay from Surat, a Police Inspector questions Farhaan, who has just obtained his law degree, for his reason to go to Bombay, and whether he has any alliance with Pakistanis. Farhaan answers that he is going to Bombay to live with his father, and he does not know anyone from Pakistan. Farhaan finds out that Bombay Police have been targeting the Muslim community, and in the name of fighting terrorism, have been killing innocent Muslim men, women and children. Dev has had a meeting with Muslim community leaders asking them to share list of all people attending their madrasas, their funding and any suspicious activities. corrupt politician Latif (Ehsan Khan) is angry with this biased attitude from Dev, but moderate leader Ali Khan (Pramod Moutho) wants to cooperate with the government. Ali is Farhaan's dad. Farhaan comes to know from Ali that Joint Commissioner of Police, Dev Pratap Singh, is involved in this witch-hunt. Dev orders the encounter of Kareem Khan of Latif's party involved in smuggling of arms. Kareem tries to hide behind his family and as a result, the family is also killed. The community is outraged and launches peaceful demonstrations (egged on by Latif). Latif publicly asks Ali to lead the Morcha. Latif's men start throwing stones & petrol bombs at the police during the Morcha, prompting Dev to open fire. As a result, Ali is killed. Latif meets CM's right hand man MangalRao (Milind Gunaji) and conveys that he helped the CM get elected in exchange for a promise of a MLA ticket. He reminds Mangal Rao for the CM to keep his promise. Meanwhile Farhaan meets Latif and says he wants to kill Dev. Farhaan is provided training in handling guns, and is subsequently made ready for this task. Aaliya (Kareena Kapoor) is the light in Farhaan's life. Beautiful and innocent, the young woman also gets caught in extraordinary circumstances that transform her life and she dares to stand up for the truth. Unfortunately, Farhaan is unable to kill Dev, who escapes unhurt. But one of Farhaan's assistant is killed and is identified to be Latif's man. Chief Minister Bhandarkar views this incident seriously, and instructs Tej to root out terrorist elements in the city. Tej raids Latif's hideouts and manages to capture Farhaan. Farhaan is eventually released as there is no evidence against him. Dev tries to counsel Farhaan that Latif is using him for political purposes. Tej is an ultra Hindu Nationalist, while Dev is a secularist in his views. Dev sees Armaan in Farhaan. Latif is alarmed by Farhaan's release as this was unexpected. He plans to divert their attention by conducting a bomb blast in the city and stoking communal tensions. Latif chooses Farhaan for the job as he does not intend for Farhaan to escape alive. Farhaan is told to deliver a package to a man near a Hindu temple, and he does so. While at a stop to buy some snacks, the package explodes prematurely, killing several people, but Farhaan survives. Since this incident occurred near a Hindu temple, a right-wing political party member, Mangal Rao, organizes a wave of riots against the Muslim community. Riots take place, and CM instructs Tej to observe and not prevent the violence. As a result, hundreds are killed. Latif organizes his men to target and attack Hindus and Hindu establishments, rendering the region unsafe, with people being killed in the name of religion. Dev is at the location, but is under orders from Tej not to act. After waiting, Dev decides to ignore his orders and bring the situation under control. Aaliya escapes sexual assault and Farhaan finds her and takes her to a hospital where Bharati treats her. When Hindus and Muslims have had enough, they publicly ask for peace, it is only then Latif and Mangal Rao agree on a truce, on the condition that no Muslim male, female or child will file a FIR (First Information Report) in any police station, to which Latif agrees. Latif then warns everyone in the Muslim community not to complain against anyone. Period. But Latif frames it as saying that Muslims cannot hope to get Justice from this govt and hence there is no point begging for it. But Aaliya breaks rank and complains to Dev publicly about his police officers and Mangal Rao, whom she had witnessed during the riots. Seeing Aaliya, many witnesses come forward. Mangal Rao is arrested by Dev. CM and Tej want Dev to release Mangal Rao, but he refuses. Latif summons Farhaan and beats him senseless and wants to kill him, but Farhaan escapes. It is then Farhaan finds out that he has been treated as a pawn by Latif, and decides to trust Dev and become an informer. Tej releases Mangal Rao and he plans to kill Aaliya. Tej knows this & stops Dev from helping the victims as Mangal Rao sets fire to the entire colony where Aaliya lived (Aaliya had secretly moved in with Bharati, without Tej or Dev's knowledge). Dev writes a formal complaint against Tej and this leads to a departmental inquiry. As Dev heads to court, he is shot down by unknown assailants on the steps of the court, and it is clear that Tej instigated the shoot-out. Tej tries to use the chaos to shoot Farhaan, but Dev saves him before dying. Tej is riddled with guilt on Dev's death and understands that Dev treated Farhaan like his own son. Tej kills himself and hands over all the evidence to Frahaan so that he can fight the battle in court.

A woman decides to marry her childhood friend, after getting her heart broken by her sweetheart. 'Kyun! Ho Gaya Na' is a situational romantic comedy -- a simple story about love and life. Diya Malhotra is an idealistic, sensitive girl whose childhood was spent in the coffee plantation town of Coorg. Her father, who single-handedly raised Diva after his wife passed away, decides that Diva should travel to Mumbai to help his friend Raj Chauhan, a confirmed bachelor, run a small orphanage that he has in his home. Diva will stay at the home of the Khannas, who also are friends of her father. Diva then meets Arjun Khanna, a seemingly free-spirited, fun-loving, adventurous guy. The two soon realize, however, that they will be staying in the same house since the Khannas, her father's friends, are Arjun's parents. The friendship that develops between Diya and Arjun and their opposing views on love and marriage are at the heart of this film. —Sujit R. Varma Diya Malhotra lives with her dad on a farmhouse. She is friendly with Arjun Khanna, but thinks he is something of a jerk. She goes to spend some time with Raj Chauhan at his orphanage, and finds that Arjun will also be spending some time there. Raj has an ulterior motive to invite both of them, as he plans to get them to fall in love, and hopefully get married. But this does not happen, and Raj invites Ishaan, who, after Diya's approval, readily agrees to marry Diya. A suspended cop ends up in Calgary searching for a criminal, where he falls in love with daughter of a successful Indian businessman and a protective father who takes a while to accept his future son-in-law. Calgary-based wealthy Pakhi meets and falls in love with Samar Dev, who claims to be Pepsi's Additional General Manager. He is introduced to her dad, Sam, and aunt Asha; and a lavish wedding is planned much to Sam's chagrin who feels that he has met Samar before. It is just before the marriage that Sam's suspicions will be well-founded after he finds Samar in the womens' restroom. Right from Peon to Principal, and from the most lowly menial staff to the office of the Prime Minister, modern secular India is embedded in corruption by officials who brag that even if Mahatma Gandhi were to approach them to grant access to his very own Sabarmati Ashram, he would not be spared. In this era a honest man is defined as one who readily accepts a bribe and does the needful, while a dishonest man is one who accepts a bribe but refuses to do the needful. It is in this atmosphere that the Kapoor family live. This family consists of Suresh Kumar Kapoor, a Professor at a Delhi college; his wife, Sarita, who is a Librarian, and a son who is Captain Rohit in the 7th Jat Regiment of the Indian Army. Suresh is pitted against the corrupt system when he receives word that his son has been killed in Kargil, when the fragile truce between Pakistan and India was broken, resulting in thousands of deaths on both sides. A thief pretends to be a cop in order to recover his diamond from a site that has been converted into the police headquarters. Although he becomes a favourite of the ACP, a colleague gets suspicious. When he one day spoils a deal of drug boss Jogiya Seth (Paresh Rawal), the latter abducts a little girl from the orphanage and thus blackmails Sanju to make up for his loss: Within one month, Sanju has to pay five million rupees to him. Sanju's buddy Natwar (Johny Lever) suggests that Sanju should pose as Sanjay Shastri, a remote American relative of the wealthy industrial family Choudhary, thus gain access to their house and then rob them. The real Sanjay Shastri is in Natwar's custody. The extended family, headed by Dadaji Dinanath (Anjan Srivastav) and Dadiji Sudha (Farida Jalal), takes Sanju in. Soon the whole family loves this maverick guy who effortlessly manages to solve big and small family problems. The Chaudhary Parivar has three brothers. The elder one is Dilip (Om Puri), who is an honest man and takes care of the family business. Mahesh (Ashok Saraf) is the second one who is a gambler. The third, Satish (Jatin Kanakia) has the habit of stuttering and is absent minded. Savita (Himani Shivpuri) is Mahesh's wife and Ratna (Supriya Pilgaonkar) is Satish's wife and cannot stand each other. Dilip's wife passed away during childbirth of Shivani due to which Shivani believes she is bad luck. Bela is Mahesh's daughter. Raju is Satish's son who cannot walk. Shivani (Urmila Matondkar) is the daughter of Dilip. Shivani is beautiful but without self-esteem or confidence. This makes the whole family anxious about Shivani's marital prospects. Sanju also starts laying the groundwork by receiving calls from Natwar about an impending transfer of $ 10 million into his Indian bank account, which he needs to start a project, which is the main purpose of his travel to India. Sanju wins everybody's hearts by solving their problems. He creates an impromptu underwear ad to satisfy Mahesh & Satish's client. He also starts helping Raju, with his disability. He also promises Dadi that he will make Shivani smile one day. Sanju realizes that the family has no money. The business has been running in losses as Dilip is way too friendly to the employee Unions, which Mahesh hates. Mahesh says that he has been supporting the house for the last 3 years and now demands a split of the business between the brothers. Dadaji believes that Mahesh is selfish and a vagabond, while only Dilip is working hard to keep the business afloat. Mahesh asks Sanju to invest in the family business, but Sanju says that getting Shivani married to a rich businessman is a better route to success. Sanju asks for 15 days to complete Shivani's makeover. Sanju convinces Mahesh to invest in Sanju's business instead. Sanju transforms Shivani from a simple girl to a beautiful woman. And, in the process, unites the rest of the family. He brings Dadi and Ratna close to each other by getting them to see that they do care for each other. It was only the lack of communication that was keeping them apart for so long. Sanju gets Shivani out of her world of books and teaches her to life her life to the fullest. Sanju then gives Shivani a makeover with a hair cut and whole new modern wardrobe. He then prepares Shivani for interviews with potential grooms. Shivani needs a little help the next a boy named Mayur comes to meet her, but she does extremely well. Mayur finds her funny and engaging and decides to bring his parents for a formal discussion in the next meeting. Meanwhile, Sanju stakes the family jewels kept in Dadi's safe. Shivani has now fallen in love with Sanju. Shivani tells Dadi that she does not want to marry Mayur, so Dadi sends Sanju to convince Shivani. Sanju then brings Dadaji and Mahesh close together and makes them realize that they still love each other. Sanju then cures Satish of his stutter. Sanju wants Shivani to marry Mayur, as Mayur comes from a rich family. After the marriage, Mayur's family will help support Dilip's businesses and Mahesh promises to get funds for Sanju's business investment as well. More and more, Sanju realizes how dear this family has become to his heart. But still the little orphan Munni is at the mercy of Jogiya. There is trouble at Dilip's factory. The union workers go back on their word and demand more money to keep the factory open. The workers have been paid by Dilip's business rival and when his factories are shut, the rivals will take Dilip's orders and cause a loss of Rs 2.5 Crores to Dilip. Dilip bets Sanju to convince Shivani to Mayur, as his family can handle the business. Shivani is not OK to be sacrificed at the altar of family unity and happiness. Shivani challenges Sanju that she will agree to the marriage when Sanju admits that he loves Shivani. Sanju is forced to admit that he loves Shivani. The marriage between Shivani and Mayur is finalized and Sanju is given Rs 5 Lakhs to start the wedding preparations. Sanju is disgusted at how he has betrayed the trust of the family and admits the truth to Shivani. Sanju asks Shivani to forget him forever. Sanju robs the family safe that night and exits the house, but Raju follows Sanju and tries to stop him by walking after him. This is momentous as Raju could never walk prior to this. The family is indebted to Sanju and hail Raju's recovery as a miracle. Shivani tells the whole family that she loves Sanju. But this is when the real Sanjay Shastri reaches home and exposes Sanju's truth. He is closely followed by Jogiya, who arrives with his goons. Jogiya finds that Sanju had stolen nothing from the house, but only a few things that would remind him of the love and respect he got in the family. When Jogiya threatens Munni, Sanju attacks him and his goons and defeats them. The family asks Sanju to stay back. Shivani and Sanju reaffirm their love to each other.

George and Ella run a popular fish and chips shop in the neighborhood. While George is obsessed with the 1971 war between East and West Pakistan and arranging marriages for his children, the children themselves who were born and brought up in Britain, increasingly see themselves as British and reject Pakistani customs of dress, food, religion, and living. This leads to a rise in tensions and conflicts within the family unit. Auntie Annie (Lesley Nicol), Ella's best friend. She frequently helps George and Ella at the chip shop and has an amiable relationship with George, although she advises Ella not to be too soft with him. Nazir "Nigel" Khan is disowned by George after fleeing an arranged marriage for a homosexual relationship. Abdul "Arthur" Khan, the second son. He is the most rebellious and even attempts to flee to Eccles when he learns of George's marriage plans for him. Stella Moorhouse (Emma Rydal), Tariq's secret girlfriend. Their relationship becomes somewhat strained once she finds out George has planned to marry Tariq off. Earnest "Pongo" Moorhouse (Gary Damer, Stella's younger brother. Like Stella, he is friends with the Khans, being Sajid's best friend and harboring an unrequited crush on Meenah. It is implied that he is somewhat weird and often abused by his grandfather. Mr. Moorhouse (John Bardon), Stella and Earnest's grandfather. He has old-fashioned ideas about race and ethnicity, supporting controversial political figures like Enoch Powell, and does not know of Stella's relationship with Tariq, although he is frequently irritated by Earnest's friendship with the Khans, who openly dislike him. Maneer "Gandhi" Khan, the fourth son. He is the only one who obeys George's rules, and ironically the only one who George beats. He is devout and spends much time reading quietly in his room. Saleem "Picasso" Khan, the fifth son. He seems indifferent to George's authority but stands by his mother and siblings when George goes too far. On a comical note, he is studying Foundation Art, while George believes he is training to become an engineer. Meenah Khan, the sixth child and the only daughter. She also has a rebellious streak and frequently teases Sajid. Sajid "Spaz" Khan, the sixth son and youngest child. The pain he undergoes following his late circumcision is what prompts Ella to rethink her attitude towards George. He wears a parka at all times of day and night. Peggy (Ruth Jones), Stella's best friend. She appears jealous of Stella's relationship with Tariq and tries desperately to find a boyfriend, but her overweight figure repels boys. In the end, she is implied to have a romantic fling with Saleem. Mr Shah (Madhav Sharma), a devout Muslim desperately seeking Pakistani bridegrooms for his two comically unattractive daughters. Though he appears amiable on the outside, he is actually mean-spirited and rude, scoffing at Earnest Moorhouse for no reason and branding Ella as a disgrace solely for speaking back to his snobbish wife even when she insulted Ella first. On a comical note, his constant sweating is a sign of poor hygiene. George forcibly circumcises Sajid, when he finds that he is not. Forbids the consumption of pork in the house, even though all his kids eat it behind his back. George goes beyond all reason by promising Mr Shah to marry 2 of his sons (1 of them being Tariq) to his 2 daughters (who are comically ugly). Ella protests vehemently that the boys should be told about their futures, lest history with Nazir should repeat itself. Tariq finds out about his engagement and is so angry that he destroys all the shopping that George has done secretly for the weddings. George thinks that Maneer made the mess & beats him. This time Ella intervenes & stands up to George. Tariq leaves home & Meenah, Saleem & Stella also go with him. They go to Nazir for help & find that he is now a gay stylist in a gay relationship. Nazir comes home to confront his father but leaves when Ella tells him that he would only make things worse. Tariq returns home & threatens George that if he goes ahead with the wedding, then he would also get a 2nd white wife, just like George. Finally, Mr Shah brings his wife & daughters to George's home. Mrs Shah insults Ella by saying that their house is too small & it would be best if Tariq & Abdul stayed with Shah's after the wedding. Ella puts her foot down & says that the girls are not good enough for her family & forces the Shah's to leave. George again wants to hit Ella, but this time the entire family intervene and forces George to back down.

Ketki makes sacrifices to support him in his entrepreneurial endeavours. But fails to restrain him when, in desperation to get rich quick, he aligns with the wrong people. Contractor and power broker Tirpat (Mohan Joshi) and local politician Pandey (Harish Patel) make use of Vinay's innocence for their own profit. Vinay's degeneration is complete when he thrashes Ketki for objection to his misdeeds. Her upbringing, self-respect and righteousness make it difficult for her to bear this humiliation. She suffers. Chandravati (Shabana Azmi) is the wife of Vinay's elder brother Abhay Singh (Mohan Agashe). Will walks slowly back to his car, noticing that several other wolves are watching him in the woods nearby, their yellow eyes glowing in the dark. Will makes it back home to his penthouse and his wife, Charlotte. He ends up sleeping for some 20 hours, waking up only when Charlotte comes home in the evening. They have dinner together and Will becomes very passionate with her, to her sly delight. When he returns to his office, he notices that his sense of smell is greatly enhanced; he can smell tequila on a coworker's breath as he passes him and hear every conversation going on among the office's other employees. Will is also able to edit a manuscript quickly and without his glasses. Will's new boss, Raymond Alden (Christopher Plummer), a rich tycoon who has bought the publishing house, throws a lavish dinner party at his Long Island estate. He tells Will that he's demoted as chief editor and his replacement will be Will's protégé, Stewart Swinton (James Spader). Raymond offers Will a job as editor in Easter Europe. While stalking away from the meeting with Raymond, Will gets too close to a few prized horses Raymond is showing and they become spooked. Will also feels pain in his chest like a heart attack and is forced to sit down near a guest house. While he recovers, he meets Alden's headstrong daughter Laura (Michelle Pfeiffer), who is polite but sullen and withdrawn. She comforts him with a glass of liquor and firmly rebuffs Will's advances. The horse is spooked when it sees Will and throws Laura off. Raymond suddenly appears and, upon finding out that Laura is unharmed, takes another opportunity to slag Will, saying that he doesn't approve of Laura getting involved with Will. She turns down her father's offer of lunch and takes Will back to the guest house she's staying in. The two talk over peanut butter and jelly and wander around the estate. Will tells her about his encounter with the wolf and how he believes he might be becoming one. He feels sick again and lays down in her house while she tends to him. During the night he wakes up, clearly showing characteristics of a wolf and bounds out, hunting down a deer and killing it. In the morning Will finds himself on the bank of a stream, with blood all over his face and hands. He leaves immediately and sees his doctor, who tells him he's fine. Laura, believing Will had left her cold, refuses to take Will's calls. Will visits Dr. Vijav Alezais (Om Puri), a professor specializing in the supernatural. Alezais tells him that the wolf that bit Will was not a true werewolf but a demon wolf that simply passes the spirit of an animal on to it's victims. He also suggests that this spirit can be transmitted to another person simply through passion and that not all wolf spirits are evil, they are manipulated by the nature of the individual. The professor gives Will an amulet to protect him from turning completely into a wolf. Alezais also asks Will to bite him, as Alezais does not have long to live, and would prefer "demonization to death." After refusing, Randall keeps the amulet so that he won't transform at the next full moon. Calling Laura to explain, Randall, now a wolf, breaks into the Central Park Zoo and steals handcuffs from a policeman (David Schwimmer) who tries to arrest him. In another area of the park, muggers want his wallet, but he attacks and leaves one of them alive. He wakes up in his hotel, with no memory of what happened. Will outmanoeuvres Raymond and Stewart with his threat of stealing the publishing house's biggest authors. He finagles a new contract that will let him stay editor-in-chief and grant him a larger salary and greater authority. Raymond also grants him the opportunity to fire Stewart. The two meet in the men's room and although Stewart begs Will for a second chance, Will still fires him, urinating on his shoes. While washing his hands, he finds fingers in his handkerchief and realizes he killed someone, at least one of the muggers in Central Park. Will's biting of Steward when he discovered his affair with Charlotte has consequences. Stewart attacks and kills Charlotte and sets about framing Will for the murder. Will, who believes he's become too dangerous, handcuffs himself to the radiator in his hotel room and waits for Laura to arrive. She frees him against his objections and Will finally puts on the amulet Alezais had given him. The two spend the night together, having sex. The next day they both hear about Charlotte's murder and Will insists Laura take him to her father's estate and lock him in the horse stables. Laura gets a call from a Detective (Richard Jenkins), the chief investigator of Charlotte's death. He tells her that canine DNA was found on Charlotte's body. Alarmed, Laura goes to the police station. There she runs into Stewart, who makes an animal-like pass at her. Laura hurries away, making arrangements for her and Will to leave the country. Stewart follows her, viciously kills the two security guards on the property and attacks Laura, trying to rape her in front of Will in the stables. Will tears off the amulet, succumbs to the full power of the wolf and escapes confinement, attacking Stewart. The two fight ferociously until Stewart is shot to death by Laura when he tries to stab Will with a pair of garden shears. Will and Laura stare at each other, Will is frightened to touch her due his monstrous state. She looks at him with a loving glance and takes his hand but he still runs off, hiding in the woods where he makes a final transformation. Later, Jenkins arrives. Laura shows heightened senses while talking to the detective and the police that accompanied him, telling the detective that she can smell vodka on his breath. The final scene is a close-up of her face fading into dark, lupine eyes, and a close up of Will completing his transformation into a full werewolf.

Indu lives a middle-class life with her widower dad. She attends college, meets Raj, and and they fall in love with each other. One day Rukmini Bai gets the news, that she, now, has a new landlord Mr. Gupta (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), whose daughter Malti (Ratna Pathak) is to marry Mr. Aggarwal's (Saeed Jaffrey) son, Sushil (Aditya Bhattacharya), shortly. Given the finesse of Zeenat and Basanti, Mr. Gupta invites Rukmini Bai with her women to perform at the engagement ceremony of his son. During the performance, Sushil is smitten by Zeenat's beauty and approaches her in the dressing room. Zeenat also gets attracted to Sushil. In the meanwhile, it is shown that the City Councilor, Shantidevi (Gita Siddharth), who also runs the Women Organization of the town is averse to Rukmini Bai and her brothel. In reality Shanti Devi is coordinating with Mr. Gupta to build public opinion against the brothel, so he can get it demolished for his new construction project at the right time. Shantidevi's assistant (Pankaj Kapur) Via Mr Gupta, Shanti gets news that a minor Phoolmani has been kept at the brothel without her wishes. Shanti enters the brothel with a large public crowd to rescue the minor. But Rukmini traps Shanti's assistant in a room with one her other girls, who claims that he was trying to sexually assault her. This puts Shanti on the back foot, and she is forced to withdraw for the time being. Meanwhile Nadira tries to force Phoolmani into her first time. She has a stroke and later tries to commit suicide. To save Phoolmani the Doctor asks Rukmini to take her to a hospital, but since it is a suicide case, a police report is required first. And that means the entire brothel will be kept in a lockup, just so that Phoolmani can be saved. Mr. Agarwal bails the girls out. In a Municipal Committee meeting, Shanti proposes that the brothel should be moved out of town, in order to protect the town from getting corrupted. The committee agrees to her demands and Rukmini Bai and her women are forced to relocate to a new place in the outskirts of the city, which happens to be near the Dargah of Baba Karak Shah. Mr. Agarwal comes to apologize to Rukmini that he could not stop from the brothel being relocated but promises to take care of the Phoolmani case. Agarwal also gets Mr. Gupta to offer Rs 51K, a house and land to Rukmini at the new site, to help her relocate. But the new location attracts a lot of people (as it the religious grave site of one Baba Kharak Shah, whom the locals revere and visit often), and Rukmini Bai's brothel starts thriving. In the meanwhile, Rukmini Bai gets to know about the budding love between Zeenat and Sushil and she forbids Zeenat from going ahead with the relationship. She reveals that Zeenat is the illegitimate child of Mr. Aggarwal and another prostitute, and Rukmini Bai had kept it as a secret for years, in order to save the face of Mr. Aggarwal. It makes Zeenat and Sushil siblings and renders their romantic relationship as prohibited. The complications set in when Sushil refuses to marry Malti and runs away from his house in order to pursue Zeenat. He asks Zeenat to elope from the brothel with him in search of better existence and Zeenat accepts his proposal. The whole brothel is in a state of panic when the news of Zeenat's elopement breaks out. Rukmini Bai and Aggarwal go in search of the children. However, during the way, Zeenat is overcome by guilt as she is aware of their biological relationship and thus, runs away from Sushil as well. Sushil is heartbroken. Rukmini Bai too, is unable to come to terms with the news of Zeenat's disappearance. She is sobbing in her brothel and instead of getting sympathy, she is rebuked by a Nadira (Soni Razdan), a prostitute who works for her. She asks Rukmini Bai to exit the brothel as the women do not need her anymore and can run the brothel on their own. Rukmini Bai is in a state of shock and with a heavy heart, she quits the brothel with her faithful helper Tungrus (Naseeruddin Shah). On their way, due to exhaustion, they halt for water. While looking for water, Tungrus accidentally comes across a Shiv Lingam. He calls out to Rukmini Bai and they both pray to the Shivlingam for a better future. Just then, they see Phoolmani, a former brothel woman, running towards them. Rukmini Bai is delighted at the sight of Phoolmani and thanks the almighty.

The film opens at a party where Anant Welankar (Om Puri), a police officer, meets Jyotsna Gokhale (Smita Patil), a lecturer in literature at a local college. Anant is a sub-inspector with Bombay police. They seem to hit it off despite some initial skirmishing about ideology, and the friendship blossoms into a relationship. Anant brings diligence, enthusiasm, and a definite idealism to his job. But the job is harsh. There is a deep nexus between the local mafia, the cops and the (corrupt) politicians. Honest himself, Anant falls among the lower rungs of the police hierarchy and has very limited scope of authority on the state of affairs in his area. When Anant arrests three common thugs, he is asked to meet with their boss, Rama Shetty (Sadashiv Amrapurkar), a don in the local mafia. Anant refuses all of Rama Shetty's attempts to get his men out or to entice Anant to join him. Shetty decides to watch over Anant. Anant pursues Jyotsna and they both get romantically involved. Mike Lobo (Naseeruddin Shah) is a suspended cop, who also stood up for his values and tried to fight against a corrupt system. Anant's department head Police Inspector Patil (Achyut Potdar) orders him not to touch Shetty's men going forward. Sometime thereafter, a meek fellow from a local slum lodges a complaint about some ruffians who harass his wife. Anant finds them, locks them up, and administers a severe beating. As a fallout, the local MLA asks for Anant to be suspended. Anant's boss, inspector Haider Ali (Shafi Inamdar), explains to a mystified Anant that the ruffians were the MLA's henchmen, providers of muscle during elections and political rallies. Anant is defiant with a clear conscience (he did nothing wrong) and ready to face a tribunal. Haider Ali explains that it will hardly get that far. Tribunals are either delayed indefinitely or are rigged (by corrupt politicians), and suspension during that time is a permanent black mark on one's record (for no other politician will be willing to deal with such a troublemaker). Anant is initially baffled but goes along with Haider's plan to bring in Desai, a mediator or middle-man with connections in New Delhi, the "Centre" or national seat of power. Desai invokes higher powers to quietly cover up the matter. Anant's morals are shaken by this incident: He had to use means barely legal to uphold his righteous actions upon criminals. Anant reflects upon his childhood. His father Police Constable Velankar (Amrish Puri) retired as a Faujdar (constable) in the village police force. His father was a hard and violent man, quick to slap or beat his wife (Madhuri Purandare) on the slightest pretext. Anant recalls looking on and being powerless to intervene. When Anant graduates' college, he expresses his desire to pursue higher education but is forced into joining the police force. Things get interesting when Anant finds one of Rama Shetty's goons, badly beaten, burnt and left to die. Anant brings the man into the hospital and takes his statement where he names Rama Shetty and others who inflicted this assault. Anant storms into Rama Shetty's rooms to arrest him. But Shetty is unfazed. He makes a simple phone call to a high-ranking cop who immediately asks Anant to back off. Anant cites the context and the overwhelming evidence but is still ordered to step away. A resentful and hapless Anant leaves, feeling intensely humiliated. Haider Ali explains yet again: Rama Shetty plans to run for city council in the upcoming municipal elections and simply cannot afford to let a petty matter distract his ambitions. Anant is horrified and enraged and takes to drinking. His relationship with Jyotsna suffers. He is distraught when he is sent to provide security cover for Rama Shetty's campaign rallies. Meanwhile Mill Union Leader Mhatre (Vijay Kashyap) complains to Patil about Mill owners deploying hooligans to beat up the striking workers. Unknown to Mhatre, Patil had already made a deal with mill owner Khanna (Akash Khurana) to remove the striking workers and to allow Khanna to take material out from the factory to complete his orders. He suffers another career setback when he leads an assault team to capture a dangerous bandit in the hills outside Mumbai, and the credit for the arrest is ultimately handed to another officer. His relationship deteriorates further, and he takes to drinking fairly heavily. When Jyotsna confronts him, he confides in her. Anant arrests Rama Shetty's son (Madan Jain), when he is found having kidnapped a girl and having sexually assaulted her for a week. But as usual, he is set free. The son ends up killing Mhatre in a road accident. Things go completely out of control one night soon after as a small-time thief, accused of stealing a small radio, is brought into custody. Anant is very drunk, angry, and frustrated. He delivers a shocking and brutal beating to the thief - while continuing to drink - accusing him of "stealing the legitimate Rights of Others". Not surprisingly, the thief succumbs. The fallout leaves Anant suspended and facing charges of excessive force. Anant tries to invoke Desai again, but Haider Ali backs off, saying the situation has become too hot for most anyone. Haider Ali suggests, somewhat reluctantly, that perhaps the newly elected Rama Shetty can help. After several days of deliberation, Anant decides to visit Rama Shetty in his betting den. Rama Shetty receives Anant cordially and invites him into his inner sanctum alone - possibly aware that this righteous cop is finally on his knees before him. He agrees to help him only if Anant, in return, joins forces with him. Anant breaks out of his 'impotent' torpor and infuriated, in a stunning and violent move, strangles Rama Shetty there and then. The film ends with Anant turning himself in.

This film is about the blind, in particular about the lives and feelings of blind children and the principal of their school. Sparsh refers to the sensation and feeling of touch upon which blind people rely in the absence of sight. The story opens with Anirudh Parmar (Naseeruddin Shah) as the principal of Navjivan Andhvidyalay, a school for the blind that educates about 200 blind children. Jagdish (Mohan Gokhale) is Anirudh's assistant at home & office. Anirudh has a dark and lonely existence for the most part. He is fiercely independent and even doesn't allow Jagdish to do all his chores. One day, while on his way to the doctor, he hears a lovely song and ends up mesmerized at the singer's door instead of the doctor that he was looking for. The voice belongs to Kavita Prasad (Shabana Azmi), a young woman recently widowed after three years of marriage. Kavita, too, prefers a secluded existence. Her childhood friend Manju (Sudha Chopra), is the only friend she has. Manju throws a small party where Kavita and Anirudh meet again. He recognizes her from her voice. During the conversation, he mentions that the school is looking for volunteers to read, sing, teach handicrafts and spend time with the children. Kavita is reluctant, but she is urged by Manju and her husband Suresh to strongly consider it. Manju takes Kavita to the school when it holds a stall for Diwali candles made by students. Kavita sees that the students are talented and run the entire stall by themselves, without any help. They make beautiful candles. Kavita decides to volunteer. On day one Anirudh warns Kavita not to see blind kids as "poor souls".. he says the kids need help and not charity. Kavita takes some time to adjust to the sightless lives of the kids and to adjust to their sensitivities. As Kavita spends more time at the school, she begins forming a friendship with Anirudh. The friendship grows stronger over time. But their personalities and feelings are different. Anirudh is of strong character. He firmly believes that the blind need help but not pity or charity. (When once, in his office, Kavita attempts to assist him with coffee, he gets enraged at the thought of his guest offering to overcome his obvious difficulty with hospitality.) Kavita helps the kids start playing blind cricket, using a special ball that makes rattles. The school prepares for their annual function and Kavita helps the student prepare a skit based on the Mahabharata. Kavita reveals to Anirudh that her husband died 3 yrs ago. The kids also love Kavita and get very close to her. A student names Paplu is infatuated with Kavita and is not able to express his complex feelings for her. Paplu is jealous of a fellow student Rampyare who is a favorite of Kavita. Paplu is not blind, but Rampyare is. Paplu picks up a fight with Rampyare, and he closes his eyes to make the contest equal. But when Kavita finds them fighting, she slaps Paplu only and takes care of Rampyare. Anirudh starts frequently visiting Kavita at her house and spends time with her. Still, Anirudh has deep rooted inferiority complex against anyone who looks at him with a sense of pity or charity. He loses his temper frequently at such instances. Manju notices that Kavita is now happy and looks forward to life. Eventually Kavita proposes to Anirudh, despite his feeling that Kavita is doing favors to him and to the school. Anirudh accepts her proposal. Anirudh finds that Paplu has told his uncle that he wants to become blind. He believes that he is mistreated because he can see. Kavita realizes her mistake and takes care of Paplu. Anirudh and Kavita get engaged. Kavita, recently bereaved, looks to the school (and Anirudh) as a way towards an ideal, one of sacrificial service. Anirudh gets wind of this (when Suresh mentions this at their engagement party) and assumes Kavita is simply seeking to fill the void in her life with this form of service. He assumes she accepted the proposal, not out of love, but as a sacrifice towards a way out of her dark life. During this time, Anirudh's fellow blind friend Dubey (Om Puri) laments that his recently deceased wife was not happy in their marriage. Dubey says that he was independent before marriage, but got dependent on her with time and became useless. Anirudh is shaken, confused, and disturbed by all this. He breaks off the engagement (but does not mention the reason to Kavita). She accepts his decision. Kavita, now a salaried employee of the school, continues to help the children. The initial coldness between her and Anirudh gives way to friction and eventually, over a series of events at the school, brings up the feelings they were not able to discuss before. Kavita is given the charge to prepare the school for a handicraft expo. She decides to bring in outside consultants without asking Anirudh, which annoys him. Anirudh feels that blind children should be self sustainable, without any help from a sighted person. Kavita feels that some guidance from anyone is not wrong at all. Kavita later admonishes Anirudh for not procuring any new book for the library in the last 2 yrs. Anirudh retorts that no new braille books have been published in the last 3 yrs. Anirudh then scolds Kavita for not learning braille herself. The situation spirals downward and one of them must leave the school. Anirudh wants Kavita to stop coming to school. Anirudh calls her an "outsider". But Kavita refuses to leave as she feels this is her school as well. Later, she finds that Anirudh has asked for a transfer to Kanpur. Kavita admits defeat and decides to leave the school as the school needs him more than her. Manju finds out that Anirudh has broken up the engagement and speaks to him. She makes Anirudh realize that even Kavita has a complex that she was somehow betraying her first husband by loving Anirudh, and so she created a story that her love is motivated by a higher calling of sacrifice. The movie ends with Anirudh and Kavita being touched by the depth of their feelings for one another and finally seeing a way out.

Arvind Desai is the only son of a rich businessman who deals in luxury handicraft products. His feelings for his father are mixed. While he hates his dominating nature, he admires his power and lack of scruples.

Set in an underdeveloped village in the vast rural hinterland, the story opens with Public Works Department workers taking measurements for construction of a road that is to pass through which is a common cow grazing ground and has a memorial dedicated to the son of the village landlord, who is respected by the populace, leading to upheaval and resistance. Venkatesh, village priest and teacher (Naseeruddin Shah), cautions restraint and counsels negotiations with Government agencies.
