The film revolves around a young boy Ashok (Dhruv Sarja) who goes to Mysore in search of love and accidentally meets a college going student Anjali (Radhika Pandit). It is love at first sight for both of them. However, she does not express her love as she has promised her father that she would only have an arranged marriage. Ashok returns to the city heartbroken. The interesting twist comes when Ashok`s family background is disclosed at the end of the first half. Whether Ashok is successful in convincing Anjali and her father is shown in a pleasant climax.

This much awaited Telugu film is a high-budget socio-fantasy. Mythology has been contemporarised in the film. The film boasts of an ensemble cast, some of them including Nagarjuna Akkineni and Ganesh Venkatraman. `Damarukam` is said to be in the genre of films like Magadheera and Arundhati with a lot of special effects and action.
