A man goes through all kinds of action to impress the girl he is in love with a hope to marry her.

In 1996 a five year old kid is found deserted on Navarathri at a 1200 year old temple, which is believed to have been blessed by with the presence of Mookambika Devi. The kid is found by a lodge owner, Madhavan, and he grows up into the fun-filled and cheerful Aravindan. One of the lodge visitors is Girija, who is visiting with her daughter Varada, in preparation for Varada`s dance debut. Life is basically good with Varada in his life, but somewhere in his heart Aravindan yearns to see his mother, although she gave him away. Does he find her though?

The movie shows the life of Venu, who is a victim of treachery by his own family members. Venu`s only aim in life is to get a MBBS admission for his daughter. For fulfilling his dream he decides to sell his property in town but fails miserably due to the intrusion of his family members. The resulting events are plotted in Nagara Varidhi Naduvil Njan.

The film revolves around a high-range village called Vellimala, a dam in this village and the people living there. The villagers of Vellimala consider the dam as a sign of their pride. Gopi Krishan, the central character, who took voluntary retirement from military service, reaches Vellimala as a labourer. Varghese is a government employee at the Dam site and Koshi Oommen, another character reaches there for some personal need. These three play the main three male characters in the film. Mamta Mohandas plays the role of a project officer at the Dam site and she also works for the development of the society. The story reveals the incidents happening when these characters and the villagers meet together.

Aswathi (Kavya Madhavan) is a lower mid-class Malayali woman from Pattambi, Kerala. She gets married to a small-time goon, Radhakrishnan (Biju Menon) who confesses her about his pre-marriage life and assures a complete change. Unfortunately after a short period of happy life, he is killed. Due to the financial constraints of her family and the untimely death of her husband, Ashwathi is forced to be the bread earner of the house and opts to go to the gulf. Usman (Suraj Venjaramood), who is the car driver of an Arab family, belongs to Aswathi`s village and he arranges the visa for Aswathi and brings her to Saudi Arabia. She lands in Saudi Arabia and thus follows a life of slavery and torture. Aswathi had to face numerous troubles - sexual abuse and battery- in the sponsor`s house. Ashwathi is accompanied by Usman, who actually brought her to all the miseries. However, he indulges in a sexual affair with the Indonesian maid there and gets caught and is kicked out of the sponsor`s house. Aswathi helps the other maid to escape the premises and in turn is tortured as punishment. Later she herself escapes to prevent the torture that is inflicted upon her. Whether or not she safely returns home forms the crux of the story.

Mammootty plays Mohan, a school teacher who dreams of being an actor some day. What makes Mohan different is that he isn`t the kind who sits dreaming home; rather he leaves no stone unturned to make his dream come true. Prompted by a bunch of young film makers, Mohan decides to transform himself for a toughie role and joins a group of local thugs (Lal, Nedumudi, Salim Kumar & Vinayakan) under the guise of a Mumbai goon.

The story revolves around Sathyanath (Srinivasan) who falls asleep in the train and misses his destination. He meets Menon (Dileep), who is on his way to a hotel and strikes up a conversation with him. Menon`s wife Anuradha is a scribe and guides a sting operation on CM Chacko, who has vowed to kill the couple. Strange twists and turns follow, leading viewers into a suspense-filled saga of politics, power and intrigue.

Sreenivasan plays Kunchacko, a no-holds-barred money minter who has chopped off heads and hearts on his way to the top of the world. Getting married to Ann Mary (Meena) prompts him to turn a few new green leaves, though he soon figures out that making amends is not as easy as it seems.

Annu Kapoor plays the role of Veer Savarkar who is incarcerated there and tries his best to keep the spirit of the prisoners going through unbelievable torture. Madhavan Ezhuthachan (Nedumudi Venu) is painstakingly exerting like fury to open a school in his native as the children need not walk miles to an afar school. There are several interesting characters in the village. Koppath Bharghavan Nambiar (Sankaradi), a patriotic freedom fighter; Natarajan (Jagadish), a horse-cart driver; R. K. Nedungadi (Alummoodan), President of a Hindu Temple; Govindan Nair (Paravoor Bharathan), a running postman; Venkitesan (Mamukkoya), Ezhuthachan's loyal servant and K. K. Jacob, an aimless hunter. Ezhuthachan lives with (KPAC Lalitha) and Bhanumathi (Gouthami). He has a son, Prabhakaran (Murali) who lives distant from the family. After a long haul, Ezhuthachan's school gets the official permission for operation. He and his allies cleanse and renovate the building which was already built for the purpose but attended by Madhavi's (Philomina) tired buffalos. To celebrate the good news, Ezhuthachan and his allies host a small party within themselves. Amidst the jollity, Ezhuthachan dies from a stroke. Following his death, his son files for partition at the court thereby halting the school's operation. At that juncture, P. K. Sudhakaran (Sreenivasan) arrives at the village only to know that the school has halted its operation. He becomes desperate as he had spend a fair sum of money for the teacher's post. He does several things to regain his post or money and becomes the nidus for the story's progression.

After Kunhikannen's father has a bad dream, he isn't allowed to go out anymore. When an old friend of Kunhikannan arrives, both escape and go out to the real world which he has never got to know before. But there he learns the reality. The hard business of life... —DJ_Eli

A woman hires a stranger to pose as her husband because she doesn't want her ailing father to know that her fiance broke their engagement. This prompts Kaimail (Nedumudi Venu), who takes care of Kalyani, to hire a stranger named Vishnu (Mohanlal) to play the role of Kalyani's husband. But Kalyani's cousin Bhaskaran (Sreenivasan) is aware that Vishnu is not Kalyani's husband and tries to inform Menon about the truth with proof so that he can inherit Menon's wealth. Meanwhile Vishnu and Kalyani never get on well and keep on fighting. But later she develops an affection for him and wishes that she could marry him. But the arrival of a mysterious stranger (M. G. Tired of trying every means, he decides to take help of his cop friend who has fallen for the tenant's daughter. The only way Gopalakrishnan can escape from certain bankruptcy is to sell the property he owns in the city and use the proceeds to settle his debts. To do that, he has to evict his tenants from there first. Unfortunate for him, his tenant is the feisty Meera and her family, who absolutely refuses to vacate the house.
