Five not-so-decent men, Sunny (Lal), Aloshy (Asif Ali), Tomi (Prasanth Narayan), Murukan (Nedumudi Venu) and Basheer (Noushi), team up for a deal with a corrupt cop, Balakrishna (Sreenivasan). The deal goes kaput as one of the gang members try to outsmart the rest. Sunny had some underworld connections in the past and now spends time with the memories of his late wife, who was a musician. He treats Aloshy like his own son. Tomi is rich, thanks to his flourishing hotel business and some shady deals. His wife Jenni (Rima Kallingal) has been in love with Aloshy but Tomi is unaware about this affair. Swetha Menon plays Sareena, who has a son from her earlier marriage and lives with Murugan, a gambler.

Aswathi (Kavya Madhavan) is a lower mid-class Malayali woman from Pattambi, Kerala. She gets married to a small-time goon, Radhakrishnan (Biju Menon) who confesses her about his pre-marriage life and assures a complete change. Unfortunately after a short period of happy life, he is killed. Due to the financial constraints of her family and the untimely death of her husband, Ashwathi is forced to be the bread earner of the house and opts to go to the gulf. Usman (Suraj Venjaramood), who is the car driver of an Arab family, belongs to Aswathi`s village and he arranges the visa for Aswathi and brings her to Saudi Arabia. She lands in Saudi Arabia and thus follows a life of slavery and torture. Aswathi had to face numerous troubles - sexual abuse and battery- in the sponsor`s house. Ashwathi is accompanied by Usman, who actually brought her to all the miseries. However, he indulges in a sexual affair with the Indonesian maid there and gets caught and is kicked out of the sponsor`s house. Aswathi helps the other maid to escape the premises and in turn is tortured as punishment. Later she herself escapes to prevent the torture that is inflicted upon her. Whether or not she safely returns home forms the crux of the story.

Mammootty plays Mohan, a school teacher who dreams of being an actor some day. What makes Mohan different is that he isn`t the kind who sits dreaming home; rather he leaves no stone unturned to make his dream come true. Prompted by a bunch of young film makers, Mohan decides to transform himself for a toughie role and joins a group of local thugs (Lal, Nedumudi, Salim Kumar & Vinayakan) under the guise of a Mumbai goon.

The story revolves around Sathyanath (Srinivasan) who falls asleep in the train and misses his destination. He meets Menon (Dileep), who is on his way to a hotel and strikes up a conversation with him. Menon`s wife Anuradha is a scribe and guides a sting operation on CM Chacko, who has vowed to kill the couple. Strange twists and turns follow, leading viewers into a suspense-filled saga of politics, power and intrigue.

Rajnikant plays the role of Superstar and his friend is Pasupathy who plays a barber. Pasupathy`s wife is played by Meena, while Nayantara is Rajni`s pair. The story is about friendship and such noble values. About how Rajnikant is busy with his career and doesn`t have much time for his friend. The film has a remarkable climax which so impressed Rajni that he wanted to do the film.

The film focuses on a group of slum dwellers who are ignored in the ambitious blueprints of city developers. Slum dweller Chakrapani (Sreenivasan), a disabled beggar, is a small-time moneylender. A drunkard, he spends most of the time quarreling with his mother. He has an eye on Latha (Geethu Mohandas) who lives nearby with her two children though she detests him. Latha, an asthmatic, works as a maid and dreams of a better future for her children. Another woman Vasanthi (Seema G. Nair) also lives in the slum with her two children and a drunkard husband (Manikandan) who keeps on causing endless trouble to her and her children. Meanwhile, the government takes steps to get rid of the slum in order to go on with developmental activities and the slum-dwellers find that they have nowhere to go. Finally, desperation forces Chakrapani and Latha to unite and raise their voice in protest again the ignorance towards their slum.

A selfish Hareendran rents a house adjacent to the owner's, who lives happily with his three daughters. Hareendran's behavior changes when the owner absconds, leaving his daughters on their own. Shekhara Menon (Thilakan) is retired income tax officer from Mumbai and has now settled in a remote village in Kerala. He owns some land and a house where he and his three daughters live together and leads a calm, silent and happy life. Menon owns a smaller house adjacent to his own which is given for rent, and his source of income other that agricultural income. Mr. Menon's Pension from service has been blocked due to some unclear issues. Hareendran (Mammootty) is a struggling small-time contractor and comes in as a new tenant to the rented house. Hareendran is constantly put under unwanted troubles by his aide Balachandran (Sudheesh), who convinces Hareendran to help people in trouble. His experience with Balachandran has made Hareendran a selfish man and he presently is least concerned about other peoples problems around him. But the things take a change after Menon goes absconding leaving three daughters alone in the house. Hareendran the selfish tenant quickly decides to vacate the house to avoid unwanted troubles. Even though selfish and unkind outside, the good hearted Hareendran cannot stand the harsh difficulties forced to be faced by the girls in front of his house and rest of the story is about how only Hareendran (Oral Mathram -> the only person) steps up to help the girls.
