When injustice is rising high Karuppu saamy himself appears to fight for justice with the unlawful people. While sleeping on a train, Sukumaran dreams of a powerful deity punishing assailants who harmed him. He wakes up in Tamil Nadu with his daughter, Binu, next to him. They came to the state from Kerala to get access to a specific surgery for Binu, as she has a medical condition that is causing her liver to fail. Unknowingly walking through a dark area next to the station, he asks for help from a rickshaw driver.
This takes a turn as the rickshaw driver notices a duo of muggers, as he speeds off. This leaves Binu and her father to be robbed by the muggers. They steal the ancestral jewellery from the poor family, leaving them stranded with no hope for the surgery. Binu and her father enter a police station for help. Yet, the police find the jewellery but state that the family must prove their claims in court to get the gold back.
As they enter the court, they are assigned to Adv. "Baby" Kannan, who is a corrupt lawyer who scams his clients out of their money for personal benefit with his team. After multiple tries of trying to get their gold back, Sukumaran tries to comfort Binu. Binu is angered by the practices of the justice system, which leads to Sukumaran publicly pleading and shouting at Judge Rajanayagam, who is involved in Kannan's schemes.
This leads Kannan to discharge the case and slap Sukumaran. After hearing about a guardian deity referred to as a "Karuppusaamy", Sukumaran pleads to the god by performing a ritual. He rubs ground chilli peppers on the face of the statue, causing a reaction. Baby Kannan is at his birthday party, as he takes a pill. He becomes high, enjoying the thrill of the night.
Suddenly, a spear is thrown in the middle of the party. Vettai Karuppusaamy is summoned and fights off Kannan's men, who are perplexed by the sudden change. As he finishes, he gets Kannan's attention, who thinks that this is all part of the high he feels. When Karuppusaamy proves his power as a deity by dragging him to hell, Baby Kannan fears for his life.
As he is thrown into the air and dangled above a fire, he pleads for his life. In a split-second, he shouts at the god, asking him: "If you are a god of justice! Why'd you let justice fail?". He challenges the deity to go to court and protect the innocent, and if he can, he can take Kannan's life. Karuppusaamy accepts the challenge, changing his look into a new Adv. Saravanan.
As Saravanan enters the court, he becomes overwhelmed by the nature of its practices. This catches the eye of Adv. Preethi, who is confused by the naive nature of the new lawyer. Later on, Saravanan uses his godly powers to his advantage, shocking Preethi, who now realizes he is a deity of justice. When Kannan notices as well, he states that that is unfair and the god must not use his powers against an ordinary human like him. Saravanan feels concerned, which catches Kannan's smile. He unwillingly agrees to the deal, realizing the severity of the situation now.
Saravanan and Preethi talk with Binu and her father about the case, learning more about the incredible injustices they faced. As the days continue at the court, more unfair cases come to light, such as a woman named Kanmani fighting against a politician who sexually assaulted her. This earlier led Kannan to use fear-mongering tactics against Kanmani for trying to go against his client, like setting up a bomb in her former lawyer's car.
When Saravanan fights the case the next day, Rajanayagam begins to insult his claims and comment on Binu's clothing. This upsets Binu as she shouts at the judge in the court, which angers him. He punishes her, making her stay one day in confinement. During the unjust period, Binu passes out, with blood pouring out of her mouth. Saravanan rushes to the hospital with her, as Sukumaran finds out that she is now in critical condition. Preethi and Saravanan run to Rajanayagam's home to plead for the gold back, as it was an emergency situation. Rajanayagam tells them to go away as he does not care about the situation until the morning.
The next morning, Saravanan uses a rude attitude in the courtroom to Rajanayagam's dismay. He forces Saravanan to cave in and apologize to him to get the jewellery. Saravanan, in a difficult decision, apologizes for Sukumaran to get the gold. As Rajanayagam signs the order, Sukumaran gets the gold. He finally seems hopeful as he walks out, yet suddenly, he gets a call from the hospital. He finds out Binu has passed away from liver failure.
Sukumaran walks away heartbroken at the loss of his daughter, crying around the court that she is gone. As Saravanan hears this, he cries in guilt and anguish. Baby Kannan comes to court, taunting Saravanan for now having the power to save Binu. This angers Saravanan as he feels like he could not save anyone from this injustice. He sits outside of the court at dusk, as he witnesses Kanmani get harassed by Kannan's court team regarding her case.
As he gets angered by their actions, he steps in and fights them. He takes their souls to the underworld after taking them out. This leads him to bless Preethi on a mission to save Kanmani as she takes her case to protect her. During the trial, Kanmani is branded as a liar by Baby Kannan. This is ironic as he forged documents and falsely protected the former minister for his crimes. Suddenly, as he makes his claims, Kannan is cursed with a spell that forces him to only speak the truth. This causes a mockery of the court, as Rajanayagam forces him out through the police. It is revealed that Saravanan is helping using his magic now, and that he is finally there to put an end to Kannan's actions.
As time goes on, the court begins to lose cases as there is more justice spreading in the area because of Saravanan's actions. When Kannan's gang figures out that the statue and shrine are the root of all the mayhem in the court, they try destroying it. This leads Saravanan to fight them off and warn Baby Kannan on a call to stop his actions at once.
At this moment, Kannan crashes into a lorry with his car, where his former gang members begin to attack him under a spell of the area. He realizes that the area is possessing his members to fight against him, leading him to find out that Saravanan cannot do anything outside of the court area.
Kannan plots a plan with Rajanayagam to kill Preethi and Saravanan on the road, which does not work out as Saravanan outsmarts them into the area and cuts their car in half with his abilities. This shakes Rajanayagam who watches from a distance.
At Rajanaygam's home, he and Kannan argue about what to do. Kannan states that Karuppusaamy has no control over anywhere other than the courthouse, and the only way to stop him is to move the court somewhere else. Rajanayagam calls him dimwitted for the plan and tries to escape, but as he leaves, Baby Kannan stops him and kills him.
He does this to make it look like the court was actively collapsing, sanctioning a new building to be built. As the new court is built, his team and he feel relieved that there is no power of a being anymore. During the case between the former minister V.M Pandian and Kanmani, the new judge, Soundarapandiyan, panics while looking at the evidence sheets. He lets the Kanmani go with a win as Baby Kannan is left confused, realizing that a new shrine has been built for Karuppusaamy.
A now disgraced Kannan becomes furious at the sudden change, and at the inauguration of the court building, he plans on committing a massacre. He gets his henchmen to attack and brutalize the court, shooting innocent people and yelling out loud that if he is committing such large sins, where is the god to protect these people.
Suddenly, a police car blasts into the building. An officer named Durai Singam comes out, fighting off the henchmen as it is revealed that he is the Karuppusaamy of this court, Kaaval Karrupusaamy. As he fights off and tries bargaining with Baby Kannan to stop, Kannan takes Preethi hostage, which angers Karuppusaamy.
In a flash of red smoke and a newly summoned temple ground that consumes the court area, Karuppusaamy shows his true form. He begins to slaughter and chain all of the men who brought harm to the innocents who were taken advantage of and killed. As he scares Kannan in his new form, he launches him into the air. He flies up, and in an epic motion, he beheads him with his aruval.
As the crowd sees him in his godly presence, he remarks to everyone that they are supposed to do good for society, and if not, he'll return. Everyone prays to him as he goes away in a magical red portal, fading away. His duty is now done as everyone looks in astonishment at what has just happened.
When a man, earlier in the film, was stuck in court for 30 years, trying to prove his existence when he was falsely removed from his property comes back to prove it again. The court awards him back everything, with everyone congratulating him and calling him by his name, Shanmugham. The court finally seems just in its procedures.
After the case, Preethi is on call as she glances to her side. She notices Sukumaran eating biriyani next to someone. It is Binu, as she has come back to life for her wish to be fulfilled. She wished after all of the court procedures and surgery were finished, that her and her father can eat biriyani together. Preethi looks in awe and content at this as she notices a silhouette behind them wearing a shirt with text reading: "Just God Things".
