On his arrival, he learns that not only has Mrinmoy been killed, but Kaberi Bhattacharya (Srabanti), Mrinmoy`s beautiful sister, is also missing! Will the new officer-in-charge, Pritam Singh (Indraneil), be able to help Arghya and Mrinmoy`s family track down Kaberi, and decode the clues behind Mrinmoy`s murder, in the midst of a politically tumultuous era? In their clash, the Death in Russia theory also comes up.

The film follows Paresh, a government projectionist who travels through remote areas of rural India with his driver Chapal. The two men show educational films to disinterested villagers, while Paresh idolizes the image of a beautiful woman who appears in a surviving fragment of film. On the road, they encounter the pregnant Amina, who is attempting to reach an unspecified border to start a new life with her child. The trio forges an unlikely traveling alliance, just as they are also met with a series of setbacks: their 16mm projector is stolen, and Amina does not possess the documents which will allow her safe passage.

Binodini hails the woman and the two soon agree that it would be best if Binodini came to live with the woman and her son, Mahendra (who, by the way, was one of the first to see Binodini's photo when she was unwed and up for grabs yet refused her on account of his being "unready for marriage"). Now, when the two arrive the woman's son and his new bride are in the throes of passion, constantly sneaking off to be alone together; this infatuation does not last long, however, when Mahendra begins to see that his wife's friend, Binodini, is more his type. The story details the lives of these three and Mahendra's best friend as they deal with certain issues as distrust, adultery, lies, and numerous fallings-out between them. A few months later Ashalata gets pregnant, and the family gets the news that Binodini has been widowed only after a year's marriage. Honest businessman Amar Chowdhury (Rajak) had a happy family with his wife, two sons, daughters-in-law and a daughter. He reared Sankar (Prasenjit), an orphan boy as his own son. Sankar looked after each and every need of this family. Amar Chowdhury won the post of president of the mill owners' association by defeating strong competitor Rudraprasad Sen (Dulal Lahiri) . Out of grief, Rudraprasad Sen burnt the factory of Amar Chowdhury with the help of Vikram (Arun Banerjee), and made every effort to make him penny-less. In that helpless situation, Arun Chowdhury's sons insulted and deserted him. They also slandered Sankar. Amar Chowdhury drove Sankar out by showing false anger. Sankar achieved his goal of becoming an actor with the help of Kesto da (Sunil Mukherjee), a production manager. Prosenjit Chatterjee as a Rana is the main and a promising character here. We find him to be a daredevil and a terrific fighter against injustice. Once he was traveling with his pregnant sister in a train, he begged everybody for a seat for his sister to sit, but no one paid heed to it. There were some burglars in the train who started looting but, Rana saved it from happening. By this act of his he was given the job of a police officer. In Rana's area of jurisdiction, there lived an MLA name Bikas. He was a very corrupt politician & indulged in all illegal activities. There lived another man Azad who fought against injustice everywhere. Now this minister's girl Jaya, fell in love with Rana. Once it so happened that while Rana's sitter was about to give birth to her child, this minister, Bikas, tried to kill Rana, but his sister was injured and ultimately died. Then Rana decided to take revenge but was initially not allowed to do so. Utlimately MLA Bikas's real character was revealed and in a serious fighting with Rana MLA Bikas dies. —Swarup Basak
